This was recorded February 24, 1983, which I figure the song was pretty much close to being finished. They had an end of March 1983 deadline for album sessions.
Cool version...you hear more of her vocal range here. However, I prefer the version remixed by Jellybean...the commercially released one. I think Reggie wanted to produce the best pop sound for her....on the contrary, I think Madonna wanted a more aggressive dance beat..... I may be wrong
This is just the demo. The album/single version is the one by Reggie Lucas, while the “New” Mix (the 7 minute long one as the final track off the 2001 remastered edition) is the one by Jellybean.
I don't think you're wrong. Jellybean kept the best of Reggie's mix but Madge knew what would be more club sounding, and knew a DJ like Jellybean could give it to her.
These are definitely the main tracks pre final mix & mastering. You can hear certain instruments to high in certain spots but it’s all there & she gets NOWHERE NEAR the credit she deserves for songwriting! It may not be a complicated song to play but it doesn’t need to be. You can’t write this any better & the final arrangement is amazing! It wasn’t just thrown out there with no care, they put heart into every part of the song. Sorry for rambling but I hate when songs like this get looked down on for being “Pop”Well “Pop” means POPULAR & the song resonates with a great number of people for a reason. Ok I’m done lol
@@mikemeengs5720 I'm not sure whose mix it is but in an interview, Reggie was very proud of this song. He said that if you heard the demo and the album release, they both sound very similar but barely, and that he and Madonna had to work hard on this track. However, Madonna wasn't happy about Reggie using too many instruments in some of the songs, so I wouldn't be surprised if Jellybean simplified it and emphasized a stronger beat for Madonna to dance to. Then again, this demo track could be the one Reggie was referring to and they started building off this. Either way, they all contributed in some ways and in the end released a perfect album.
"You maybe my luckystar; cause I´m the luckiest by far OOOOOHHH starlight, starbright...." MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS MADONNA DEMOS POR ESTA BELLA VERSIÓN QUE ME MATÓ!!!!
they did a hell of a job cleaning up this mix and creating a final version that's way superior to this mix. the photo looks like one of the pics they considered for her first album cover; again, the did a hell of a job creating a better photo and airbrushing it to perfection. see? not everything's as magical and perfect as it seems. they just don't let you hear or see the stages. thanks to the internet, now you can!
The original demo was actually recorded in January 1983, this is a rough mix from February 24, 1983. I think as someone said above, the final Jellybean version was made in March of 1983.
I think it's just a different production treatment, an alternate mix, not a demo, 'cause vocals are the same as the album version. Same case with other demos in this channel...
Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed and stress from the politics of todays world, I play an old school Madonna song, and I'm transported back to a simpler, funner time!
I think I like this version better but Madonna needed something more streamlined to gain exposure. Reggie Lucas's production is brilliant but really not that qualitatively different from other rhythm and blues productions of that era. This is black music; Jellybean made it more palatable for suburban ears.
Written by Madonna and produced by Reggie Lucas, with rhythm dance-pop. Madonna dancing, accompanied by her brother Christopher Ciccone and her friend Erica Bell. Madonna with the look of early career: lots of makeup, lots of bracelets and chains, headscarf ... look that was copied by young at the time: the "wannabes"
Iconic star! ❤
One of my favourite Madonna songs. The drums and synths are FAB!
Madonna, a star from the start
Yep.
A tip : you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
@Yehuda Jacob Definitely, been watching on Flixzone for since december myself =)
Love this voice so so so much!!
She was so sexy back then. Shame what she has become. A hag who thinks she's 23.

You know every detail! Where did u find this news?
Love her and her style , her voice and the song.

MADONNA FOR EVER...AND EVER
Timeless 😊
Let's dance ...
Her vocal is exactly the same as the one released. The only difference is the track. This is likely more an early mix than a demo.
It brings me so many good feelings ♥️
Queen
Straordinaria Madonna. Da un inizio in sordina ad un successo planetario. Madonna artista unica senza tempo. Grande Madame X. 👑👑👑👑👑👑
This mix sounds Immaculate

@@ArtistsCry13 Same exact tracks. This is Reggie's mix that Madonna wasn't happy with.

wowowowowowowowowo..WOW!
Glad the added the funky guitar rIFFs.makes a whole difference.
Muito parecido com o álbum...escrita por Madonna!! Amo Madonna
tu é brasileira/portuguesa ou espanhola?
There's a guitar absent from the bridge.
thankx for posting
So wonderful to hear this demo! And to know the background behind the evolution of this song, the first time I was introduced to Madonna!
Madonna voce e prinsejja ti amo
👍❤

It sounds like someone took it from the immaculate collection and just played with music
+21fags I think this is the version from Immaculate - sounds the same with the music tweaked a little
I really like this version....sounds more like a "promo" mix rather than a demo version
I love Lucky Star & I think this version would have done very well if it had been released. I like the opening better.
LUV
IS It me or the vocals are better mixed here...sounds much better
The simplified guitar, voice, synths.......love. diff version.
wao is soo gooddd and freshhh i love it.

This is a rough mix, not a demo.
I thought it sounded very polished for a demo!

Is this the Reggie Lucas mix before Jellybean came in?

Except for the part where she sings "oooh" in the middle of the song. But I'm sure there are more subtle differences in the vocals.
Tá muito parecida com versão original.
Quase tudo aí foi mantido...
Worlds best band.

Better vocals here than in the album version
Same master vocal tracks. Just mixed different here, or not final mix yet but same lead & background vocals here.
Literally same vocals just a muddier mix
@@FoxyChariot yes!
This is not demo but not a final version of the álbum
this is better then the version on her first Album
Except for the beginning and the Bridge everything else is pretty much the same.
Me encanta, pero prefiero la del disco editado.

Wow! Nile Rodgers made such a difference in the song. Strange to hear this song without his guitar playing
I'm not positive, but I'm guessing Paul Pesco played guitar on this. Nile Rodgers didn't work with Madonna until 'Like a Virgin.'
Nile didn't play on the song. It was Paul Pesco
Nile Rogers had nothing to do with this.
Thank you. Had Nile worked on it, the guitar work would been heavier and more danceable. Nile was funk and disco. This is synth pop.
@@marquisdevereaux1407 Post-disco actually

This version is not really that different from the final version
Yo tambien ;)
Thank the keyboardist Frank Zarr.
Is this the made my Reggie Lucas?
sounds the same to me. whats the difference?

I'm assuming this is the Reggie Lucas version of the song before Jellybean Benitez remixed it..who knows, still a great song!
Isn't this the demo version of the remix that was supposed to be included in You Can Dance?
