Hard to believe it's been 40 years since this was released. "Holiday" and "Lucky Star" were the first two Madonna songs the majority of the public ever heard, in late '83 and early '84. I was surprised to find that "Lucky Star" only peaked at #4 on Billboard at the time, because it was SO omnipresent on the radio in '84 that I could have sworn it hit #1. Still, #4 ain't shabby, and apparently it was her first top 5 hit.
Has it? Wow. I was a teenager in junior high school when I heard this song and loved it. Was it in 1981 or 1982 this song? I was in junior high school and high school during the 80’s. In junior high I tried my hardest to dress like Madonna. I even had black lace gloves similar to hers. A female classmate wore them and nicked ‘em. I was annoyed at her. When I asked her she made excuses for not wearing them and said she didn’t know where they were. I knew she was lying.
@@NYCSouthernGirl1 Very true...in late 1983 she broke through. In 1984 she became a star with "Lucky Star" and "Like A Virgin". But it wasn't until 1985 when the string of hits continued, one after the other after the other ("Material Girl", "Dress You Up", "Angel", "Crazy For You", "Into The Groove"--five smash hits in one year!) that it became apparent she was going to be one of the biggest stars of the decade, on a par with Jackson and Prince.
The FACT that this song gets me moving and grabs me in 2023 as it did the first time I heard it says everything you need to know about Madonna! One and only!!🧡💛💫💫

My dentist used to play Madonna's and M. Jackson's videos in the waiting room back in '90s, in order to "chill" her patients. I was just a kid with dentist phobia back then. Every tooth fix and/or extraction were done with these kind of music. I'm not afraid anymore. The best dentist ever!!!!
My dentist also gave me a walkman with MJ Bad therein .. it was handy for taking the mind off the dental work and his glass eye closeup whilst working on my teeth
Lori, same here. my mom and i both loved Madonna. my mom was not really a fan of her image but we both enjoyed her music. i had my Madonna wannabe moments too, i would style my hair like her, i had the same star earrings, hair bows, lace everything, the rubber bracelets (my favorite), etc., all the fun edgy shops had Madonna inspired clothes and accessories. such a fun carefree time to grow up. plus, i knew every move of this dance. Madonna was so unique back then. not surprised i wanted to be like her in that era⭐
I was at a nightclub, heard about 5 secs of this and I was on the dance floor. When over, I asked "Who was THAT?" to the D.J., ...MADONNA...I was hooked. Aaah, the 80's.
Out of all the singles Madonna generates in her debut album, the best song in my opinion is this one. Other singles include her first Hot 100 debut "Holiday" and her first Top 10 hit, "Borderline". This was her first Top 5 which reached #4.
it would have had to be a bar wired with cable TV whose carrier carried MTV (not all of them did) and you would have had to be there at the particular time they aired this. it ain't like it is today, kids.
I met my wife to be on June 1, 1984 right after I had scraped up enough money for an old ski boat. We named the boat the "Lucky Star" and spent that summer out on the lake with friends, listening to the "Madonna" album non-stop on cassette on a jam box, water-skiing, dancing and drinking as we fell in love. Best summer of my life, and Madonna was the soundtrack to it all. Still listening together 38 years later....What a wonderful time that was...
The intro with the shades was iconic, a super star was born with each and every video, that was Madonna and MTV! Those were the coolest days, so glad I was young in the 80's(in my 20s)
This is her most underrated song from her fans. Surprisingly, this has just over 20million views considering this was her first top 5 (peaked at #4 billboard)...
The 80s was just the good old days, I remember going to Latin party's they playing Madonna music and mostly all the girls dressed like Madonna absolutely beautiful 🎉😂
Her ad libs in the final verse starting at 3:16 are unreal - iconic isn’t a strong enough word - they ARE that time, all wrapped up in a singular vocal take, every emotion I get when I reflect back on those years is RIGHT THERE.

Todo razón tienes
Michael Jackson and Prince ruled 83-84...she was coming up. Not too shabby at all 😊
@@NYCSouthernGirl1 Very true...in late 1983 she broke through.
👍🔥
The FACT that this song gets me moving and grabs me in 2023 as it did the first time I heard it says everything you need to know about Madonna! One and only!!🧡💛💫💫
Ha 40 anos né 🕺💃🎼🎶😁👏👏👏
🔥👍🎸♥️🐐
What a pretty and fascinating woman ,hello ,my darling ?
The lyrics is so clean so timeless so pure so poetic.
The QUEEN OF POP IS STILL REIGNING ❤
The most successful female singer!!!!!!!!!
YES, THE BADDESS BITCH OF ALL TIME, LOVE MY MADONNA, THANKS TO HER, SHE MADE CHRISTIAN AGULIRA AND OTHER WHITE FEMALE ARTIST WHO THEY ARE, MADONNA IS A LEGEND OF OUR TIME
I feel you but she still a legend I also think it all dued to the sounds system it not like it was in the 80 and 90s since music changed so much
Madonna is the Queen of pop!!!!!!
monoenlanc im also totally in love with her....... shes so howt
Um.. beyonce?? Janet jackson?? Nice try
Some dentists are really cool and they understand the psychology of their patients
Hahaha great job 🔥

Mine too. So crazy.
Madonna played this song in concert at Hoover Junior High School in Early October of 1982, and rocked the house. $4.00 tickets
That’s awesome!! I was about 7 months old at that time 😂😂
I was 8 when this song came out! And now I’m 44 still bumpin it around new years
8? If you're 44 then won't you have been 3 - 4 years old?
Thumbs up to the best selling female artist Madonna!!!
Madonna first album still has me mesmerized in 1983 I was 18 and us girls dressed like her, ahead of her time,so beautiful .
Madonna was so unique back then. not surprised i wanted to be like her in that era⭐
i think i remember seeing her influence in some movies from the 80s ❤❤
I was at a nightclub, heard about 5 secs of this and I was on the dance floor. When over, I asked "Who was THAT?" to the D.J., ...MADONNA...I was hooked. Aaah, the 80's.
Femmetux Kat
was an still is a role model for us teen girls back in the 80s.
Nightclubs need to play 80s music don't forget these were the best decade ever
I wish her songs were play at my school dance back in 2002.
Betcha Yu hop up & go skippin out dea on da floor 😁☺️
All gruuvie & stuff
I remember it was a lot of fun in Dallas and in Cali that's for sure.
46 and still one of the best eras of music imo
This song has always been so special to me❤
Madonna had a heavenly body back then.
+hotudla lol no
Joshua Hull still does
Still just as hot and gets better with the age.
look at that huge belly...
Her debut album had some really underrated productions
Out of all the singles Madonna generates in her debut album, the best song in my opinion is this one. Other singles include her first Hot 100 debut "Holiday" and her first Top 10 hit, "Borderline". This was her first Top 5 which reached #4.
Lucky Star and Holiday were truly diamonds of early 80s funk productions.
😮
I remember when this came out. I was in a bar and back then they would show the music video. Still my favourite song by Madonna.
What bar were you at I'm in Los Angeles ca May, 10,2024
Awww. My favorite is Borderline!! 😂
True story -- This is pretty much a lock playing in every casino across the country at least 2 times a day.
it would have had to be a bar wired with cable TV whose carrier carried MTV (not all of them did) and you would have had to be there at the particular time they aired this. it ain't like it is today, kids.
God was good and gave us the 80's Those of us who lived through it are blessed
indeed
The QUEEN OF POP IS STILL REIGNING ❤
If only today's music was this good. l:
Did you come here only because of the anime? 😏
Katie Klokwork no?
Katie Klokwork ooooh lucky star the Anime, I just realized that's the one you meant. Lol
IT WILL NEVER BE GOOD AS 80's SONGS!!! PEOPLE JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT MAKING SONGS LIKE THIS THESE DAYS!!!! neeeeeeeevvvvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr...!!!!
Speed Demon Does RUclips I know. It makes me sad.
There isn't a video or music like this in today's music. It's so powerful and looks like art, Madonna is really like a star, she was so shiny
The first time this video aired on MTV, I knew she was something very special.
Was this her debut single?? Idk why I always thought it was Holiday 😦
@@keshalover4life She had a video in 82 and 83, but Lucky Star was the first video where the song went Gold in the US and UK.
I really feel blessed that I grew up in the 80’s & 90’s❤
I met my wife to be on June 1, 1984 right after I had scraped up enough money for an old ski boat. We named the boat the "Lucky Star" and spent that summer out on the lake with friends, listening to the "Madonna" album non-stop on cassette on a jam box, water-skiing, dancing and drinking as we fell in love. Best summer of my life, and Madonna was the soundtrack to it all. Still listening together 38 years later....What a wonderful time that was...
I first heard this song at 18,19. I was in love! She was so just, different and captivating and courageous. I love this song and this album!
This is the real Madonna. The Great Madonna. I loved her so much. Went to the Like a Virgin Tour with The Beastie Boys. It ruled.
+Tina Elevation omg ur so lucky! i wish i coulda went to see her in concert at the time!
+noemistephanie93 Thanks.
Tina Elevation im surprised you survived that much fun!
MADONNA YOU ARE THE BEST FOREVER.
Amazing song !!!!
happy 40th anniversary to luck star madonna's first album
Her ad libs in the final verse starting at 3:16 are unreal - iconic isn’t a strong enough word - they ARE that time, all wrapped up in a singular vocal take, every emotion I get when I reflect back on those years is RIGHT THERE.
This was the first 45 record I bought of Madonna songs. She still got it 👍
Not really, she’s a dweeb on tiktok now
Another song of Madonna's, along with Into the Groove that doesn't age. Still sounds great today. Especially on a good sound system
i bought the "single" version cassette of this song in the 90s on retail, its been living in the glovebox of my 89 ford ever since
@@jedk9523 cool cassette to have 😎👍
For two weeks I been singing "Starlight, starbright! First star I see tonight!" 😭 Blasting this until it gets out of my head!
I been singing this song in my head all morning. I had to hear it !
Reminds me how great it was being a teenager in the 80s. ♥️
It was great to be in my young twenties.
Got into all the dance clubs !!
OMG it really was, truly blessed to have been a teen in the 80s and wouldn't change it for the world.
Me too
I WAS... 14 !! when this Beast came out... She was SOOOO Cute !!
I followed Her Since then..... #Goddess #BellyButton #TongueLypSinc #RollinAround #Flexibility
(Her marketing Guts always inspired Me... Thank You M !!) 💯💝💥🌹
@@dawnsstar5918 Yes 100%
Young Madonna was so gorgeous. Shine your heavenly body tonight.
The bass, drums and guitar licks are so perfectly arranged. One of Madonnas better classics and also considered a club classic.
💯
Good song

I HAD THOSE SAME STAR EARRINGS SHE IS WEARING. I BOUGHT THE EARRINGS BACK IN THE SUMMER 1985 IN GREENWICH AREA IN THE NYC. I USED TO WEAR THE EARRINGS ALL THE TIME IN THE 1980’s.
THOSE SUNGLASSES WERE ICONIC AND VERY POPULAR BACK IN THE 1980’s.
Without a doubt the Queen of pop..I mark a unique style .. I love all Madonna's songs
A top favorite's of mine by Madonna; ✌ peace and respect to Madonna for sharing such richness of her spirit that plays importance in my life while in my teenage body form.↗😘
