Great shot of the underneath of a train.
Thanks, it was a spur of the moment decision to put my camera on the tracks when we were riding the rail trail. I would like to do it again only on the other side of the tunnel. It is a slight grade and the steam engine is really pouring the coal to the fire when coming out the other side. Pretty cool.

I agree. I just uploaded it after I took it while we were on our bike ride and didn't think of trimming it. I could have elimintated the first 1:15.

Having been at that same spot waiting for pennies to be squashed I must say, Heck no. The wait and the whistle wail in the distance adds to the scene. Oh ye of little patience.

It is probably going back down the mountain toward Cumberland - the engine's just coasting. The whistle is to warn hikers and bicyclists on the adjoining tow path to get out of the tunnel if they don't want to breathe too much of the loco's smoke. It's a fun ride to Frostburg and back on the Westrn Mayland RR. Check the schedule to see when they start running again and when the steam locomotive will be on the line - in the past it's only been on select trips and even then it has a diesel pusher on the back going to Frostburg. For the trip back downhill, the diesel unit detaches and heads back to Cumberland while the steam engine is turned on the turntable at the end of the line (quite a sight to see) and positions itself at the front of the train.
I did that once in Axtell Kansas. In Axtell the train line is super used like 2-6 trains an hour
That sounds like a good place to do it. No long wait!!!

Here is a slide show and video of the Silver Run Tunnel along the North Bend Rail trail in West Virginia. It is supposed to be haunted but we didn't see anything, unfortunately. I think the video show very well what the interior of the tunnel looks like.
