- Cuban Style Picadillo with raisins and potatoes is super easy and quick to make. This ground beef recipe is full of flavor that you can use as a filling for empanadas or even as a side dish with Cuban Black Beans, white rice, and more. Making this authentic Cuban recipe is pretty straight forward. First, you want to season the grass-fed ground beef with fresh garlic, orégano, kosher salt, and black pepper. Then you want to saute onions and peppers in a skillet and brown the meat. Afterwards, we’re going to layer tons of delicious Hispanic flavor by adding tomato sauce, paste, raisins and more! Ingredients:
2 lbs Grass-fed Ground Beef
1 White Onion
2 Bay Leaves
½ Green Pepper
½ cup Tomato Sauce
½ cup Tomato Paste
2 tbsp Spanish Olives
5 Garlic Cloves Mashed
¼ cup Vino Seco (Dry Cooking Wine)
3 Garlic Cloves Diced
1 tsp Orégano
½ tsp Cumin
1 tbsp Raisins *to taste
1 Potato
Kosher Salt to Taste

Thank you for the recipe. I'm Cuban and I make the picadillo pretty much the same as you did. One difference is that I fry the cubed potatoes and add them towards the end. That's how I learned from my family. The crunch adds a touch to the picadillo.

Do you boil them before you fry em or do you just cut then fry?
@@lourdesmarie_ best is to boil them but leave them just a bit underdone. Pat dry them and then fry them

Another Cuban here! After having eaten Greek food I am now starting to add a pinch or two of cinnamon to my picadillo try it, it's delicious! I know it's not traditional but it tastes really good, especially with the tomatoes in the raisins

One of my favorite recipes. I fry the cubed potatoes just a little bit in olive oil. Scoop them out then saute onions in same oil before adding ground turkey and other ingredients. I add olives the last 10mins of cook time instead of raisins. Thanks Chef Zee! Great channel 🤗

I can’t wait to make this when the weather in Arizona gets a little cooler! The only time I’ve made picadillo, it had exactly these ingredients, and I’ve been looking for the recipe for years. I second the instructions to use the olives and the raisins. There’s just something about the two that make it divine. Otherwise, you’d just have a ground meat and potatoes dish!

Chef Zee this looks so good. I never knew the trick of adding water to soften the meat. I might try that next time. I like picadillo with arroz Moro which is black Cuban rice or with arroz con gandules and Maduros. Yum.

Tampa Florida native here. i grew up on this, no raisins, sometimes potatoes. always a side of yellow rice & black beans. Love olives in mine. I hand crush them and drop them in. so good !!
The raisins are always optional. Some people feel VERY strongly against it. I actually don't mind the subtle sweetness that they give the picadillo. And this with yellow rice and black beans is EVERYTHING.

Like my Mommy used to make. You can use any kind of ground provisions, plaintains or root vegies or add whole tomatoes as well or even a little nectar instead of the water or coconut milk. Great job!! Our culture from Key West and Bahamas is very Cuban in terms of food. We call it picadilo without the "y" sound.

Yes, this authentic! I've never tried adding the water, but I'll give it a try next time. My only comment is that bay leaves are NEVER optional! ;)

I use chopped dates instead of raisins because I love the mix of savory and sweet but have never been a fan of raisins. My hubby who grew up on cuban picadillo loves it

I meal prep picadillo and black beans without rice. A Cuban chili of sorts. Solid balance of complex carbs and protein. Cannot recommend enough.
Im Filipino and this is how we cook our Picadillo too but the olive is not really common. We do add a lot of raisins though and bellpeppers.. I’m doing this tomorrow...

I'm Cuban 1st generation on my mothers side and I've never seen this with potatoes. However my Uncle Prudencio says the western part of the island often made it with potatoes. Raisins always.
