to be honest, I think it's more the 'Stone Island warriors' that bring hate, cos britpop is a brilliant genre of music, one of the best imo. just some absolute idiots attaching themselves to it 🤘🏻
Manic Street Preachers, Supergrass, The Seahorses, The Charlatans, The Verve, Suede (they had some 5-6 albums after their debut, especially the "Coming Up" album!), Cast, Travis, Echobelly, Stereophonics etc. - all these were Britpop in the 1995-1999 era.
Space, Ash, Longpigs definitely. Super Furry Animals and Kenickie also in that sphere of influence. But more than those the band who haven't been mentioned who I remember being seen as kind of emblematic of Britpop _at the time_ (alongside Blur, Oasis and Supergrass) were Ocean Colour Scene.
The idea that nothing was going on with English bands in the 1980s is crazy. You had Echo & the Bunnymen, New Order, Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Duran Duran, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, The Raincoats, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Gang of Four, Wire, The Clash, The Cure, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Japan, PiL, Psychedelic Furs, Bauhaus (later Love & Rockets), Lush, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Bill Nelson's bands, Gary Numan, Simple Minds, Ultravox, XTC, and Howard Devoto's various bands to name some.
Prime Oasis is still a GOAT level band. Most bands have all their hits scattered across their complete discography but Oasis put out 2 or 3 bands' greatest hits inside of 4 years 94 - 98. And even though the rest of their discography is Silver age material, they still had BRILLIANT songs on those post Classic era records.
I like Oasis but to be honest they sound very dated on the radio in 2023. Their sound is stuck in the mid 90's as they never really evolved like Blur and other bands from that time. I rarely listen to Oasis and when I do it's their first two albums and nothing after that as noel is a good but very one dimensional songwriter when in Oasis (he has matured since as he got older) Blurs new album is brilliant
In what way does it prove how good they are?...you are 14 and therefor you know absolutely nothing about anything!..sorry but it is a fact@@prettygreenn
to me Oasis isn’t even britpop. they are more of a traditional rock band with a few pop hits. they have no songs that sound like “common people” or “parklife” or “laid”
Only urban hymns is britpop and even then thats a stretch cause a lot of it is dreampop rock and shoegaze influences, a northern soul is dark rock northern soul and shoegaze and storm in heaven is dreampop and shoegaze
Nothing like watching a britboy rambling about britpop. That was seriously a great lil vid, and like others said I like your style! Got yourself a new sub, cheers.
in my personal and very controversial opinion, Blur deserves the success Oasis has, Pulp deserves the success Blur has, if not more, and Oasis is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to do whatever
I’d love to see this type of video made about Radiohead, because while yeah, so much has been said about them that it’s hard to not repeat overstated points, but c’mon man, just look at Jonny Greenwood - He’s the one true British treasure (aside from Thom Yorke’s voice and every member of Radiohead’s individual side projects).
Was The Verve not as big in the UK? I lived through Britpop being the trendy imported beer of Alternative Rock in the 90s and The Verve were bigger than Blur, Elastica, Pulp and The London Suede (as we called them).
I can't find it anymore, but there was some Battle of Britpop retrospective that said Blur called Oasis "Oasis-quo" and Oasis called Blur "a bunch of middle class art students." Says it all lol
Until watching this video, I thought my level of english was alright, you sir and your accent put quite a challenge for a non native speaker like me. Thank God for the subtítulos lptm buen video :)
And there it is! A perfect, honest and heartfelt opinion about britpop and its history. I guess I'm going to be that portugueses subscriber... anyway, amazing work
Yas! I grew up in corn-fed Ohio in the 80s/ 90s and hated grunge. Britpop was my jam! Plus the book store near the mall carried Kerrang! NME and all the others I can't remember right this instance to help fuel my fascination!
Im only like 3 minutes in but my god THANK YOU. Everyone says the 80s was the best decade for music and ive never gotten the hype behind it 😅 always found the 60s and 90s to be the most fruitful, and a lot of the 2010s and 2020s so far too
Nice style, you BRI-EE-SHHH guy!) Not much of a new info, but I truly enjoyed your approach. Although, you sounded like a team Oasis most of a video, but finished in an honest manner 🌚 Subscribed!
Nice video. Totally wrong about the 80s: most creative decade in British music ever - every other decade is derivative. However, despite difference of opinion, I have subscribed and wait to hear more.
I moved from Canada to England in 1993, became a huge Oasis fan but... Despite being a native English speaker - I couldn't understand a word they said in interviews at the time.
Hi Edge🙂 Just watched the Britpop video today and subscribed immediately 😊 I have a suggestion for a future video. Ukraine has become a new symbol of resistance and fight for democratic values. Other symbol for this is punk music (art in general). I’d love to see a bit about Ukraine’s punk music scene post-invasion. I promise you will be impressed. Like “Death Grips in church” impressed😀 I am from Ukraine, if that matters

they are indeed Britpop but they are something more, Britpop royalty
No. They were about as Britpop as Radiohead. Never really part of the whole scene.

The Verve are undoubtedly bigger than the other three, but not so sure about blur.
The Stone Roses first album captured the feeling of a great new youth scene.
