Amazing review of a classic game, if you haven't reviewed Super Mario Bros. 3 you need to. I saw someone beat this game from beginning to end once a long time ago. It was awesome because the guy didn't warp.
the best game ever! love the controllers too, also blades of steel was another fave of mine. i want an NES again. super contra was a good game too, and double dragon. oh man, i miss my NES and games.
Same here. I lost the cable connecting the power cord to my SNES, which also has the Super 8 adapter that allows me to play my NES games along with my SNES games and the imported Famicom games and Super Famicom games.
3:46 - FIUHBAWLZ?! Nice work, Aqualung. It's really impossible to "review" Super Mario Bros., because it's such a classic. but by adding a walkthrough where you point out tricks and difficult spots, you made it more interesting and helpful rather than pretentious and lame. One of your last comments brings up an interesting "What If" scenario, that is, what would life for us gamers be like if Super Mario Bros. was never made? It's a big question and one that might deserve a bit of thought.
Those were no ordinary Fireballs since ordinary fireballs would have fizzled out underwater. Also, video games have more leeway in environmental uses than we think.
this guy speak's the truth, this game made me what i am. My dad owned it, ever sense iwas born in 1990, he'd sit me on him, and by the age of 2, i've killed many bowser's...and today, i am what i am, a game freak, will always remember what truely made me a gamer, nes/snes :)
I have been playing this game for years. Years...and the furthest I could ever get was 8-2. Thanks to your video, I was finally able to beat the game today! Thanks for this walkthrough. It really, really helped me.
Well done, Sir Aqualung. Your best review, for one of the best games of all time, arguably the single-handed savior of the video game industry. (Maybe even inarguably!) Quite possibly the one and only game of all time that honestly deserves a perfect score from any reviewer, even compared to any game that came before or after it. (Which makes me wonder how you'd compare this to its decendent, SMB3, which as I recall is still the best selling video game of all time, and perhaps rightfully so...)
kudos all the way. You've included lots of secrets that I knew about and a few I didn't. Plus I never realized there were repeats of levels in this game like the ones pointed out.
@Starscream183 Yes, there is one in the middle of the two pirana plants guarded by the buzzy beetle, in the beginning. It's hard to get (you have to jump on the beetle but not send him flying) but you can get it if you are careful.
Superb review as always. I just would like to mention though that the 'flying fish' were called Cheep Cheeps. I recall there was one in a Super Mario Bros Super Show episode where it could only say it's name. Although I found the cartoon Cheep Cheep cute, the ones in the game are just annoying. I guess they are called Cheep Cheeps since they are flying fish and because they can fly, they might think of themselves as birds.
The fish stage shown at the beginning of this vid once showed 4 fishes as opposed to the maximum of 3 as you stated in the first part. I think i never got past those 4 ground based hammer bros on the second to last level.
Aaaah, Super Mario Bros. although it's not the magic wonder child people make it out to be. People always say "If it wasn't for Super Mario Bros. video game may not have recovered from the video game crash of '83" but it's not true. The crash was only an American thing. Japan still had a strong gaming industry, as did the UK. The Famicom and SG-1000 both sold fine for 2 years in Japan without Mario, and the UK games industry was based on early PC gaming such as the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.
There are actually two "Super Mario Bros 2" versions. The first one is a revamped version of "Doki Doki Panic" and the second is "Super Mario Bros: The Lost World"'s original Famicom version that wasn't released for the NES.
i cant remember. do you keep the new world after beating the game. or do you have to beat the game everytime you turn the game on to get the level change option?
I don't know. I don't think so. There is, however, one secret world that loops and is only found after you win the game. It's found in World 1-2 after winning the game, and there's no escape, so it's not worth finding.
Nope. Dry bones shows up in SMB 2 as the ghost of the first koopa you beat in the first game. I'm pulling your leg of course. Yep. Dry bones first showed up in 3.
in worlds 7 and 8 hammer bros on the top block can drop all the way down to the bottom. (no,really) also,i accidentally put bullet bills instead of hammer bros xD
Yeah im 13 and was born in 1997, right around the PS1 age. My mom and dad had one in 2001 but my sis and i wern't aloud to play it. We LIVED off of Mario and all that good NES shit. FUck yeah! Btw it took me two years to beat the game between the ages of four and six. And on the final Bowser lvl, i went through it as Plain ass Mario, got to Bowser......AND FUCKING DIED! i was pissed. lol
@radavis76 My "thugs" and I just LOVE your new group! You're going to have more members than you ever dreamed of, awake or asleep! Thank you VERY much! 8-D
@radavis76 I've seen AngeryParent's sources, and the documents in question, and they are irrefutable and beyond reproach. Do you have any other weak denials to dribble out?
@radavis76 You just got suspended from RUclips for two weeks. You still haven't said what the reason was for your suspension, but it certainly wasn't due to you being a "victim." What was the reason?
@radavis76 Like i said, I'm seeing slander from BOTH of you. So, like how your saying she's spreading lies about u, u cant sue or do anything about it cuz ur just a guilty. I told her the same thing
@radavis76 "Whatever!" You are a child. So, if one of your friends is an abusive relationship, then she's damaged goods, in your words. But, if someone is being abusive to you, then you are NOT damaged goods. That is called a double standard. A double standard holds different people accountable according to biased and morally unfair standards. For instance, in your world, you trumpet your opposition against domestic violence, but you also make repeated threats of physical violence. Hypocrisy!
@123kittykat92 Sorry to say, but radavis76 is a very sick woman. I was never really her friend, and when I called her out on being a net-snitch, she went absolutely crazy. She's been whining about me stabbing her in the back for months now. I think she had a little crush going on me that I never knew about. We can email, and I will give you the facts, with no slander and no lies.
@radavis76 Y dont u and beadbop just stop. U r just as guilty as her. U claim to b a non violent peaceful person, and these comments do not display it. no offense
Level 8 was the stage of mario where it seperated the men from the boys. You did a real good job summarizing it.
You obviously put a LOT of work into this one. I admire the dedication. I've only got two game videos and they took me forever....
More educational and more fun to watch than any time attack / superplay.

Might not've made it back after the crash of 1983... Great statements. Loving it 8D
The game... is so EPIC
Everytime I want to play NES, I want to play this
A+ without any semblance of a fucking doubt. Excellent 10 star review Mr. Lung. You rock hard for this one.
Your walkthrough really helped me win the game. Thanks Aqualung.
Are you going to going to do a review/walkthrough of Super Mario Bros. 2:The Lost Levels?
actually without SMB, not only will video games not exist but none of our favorite mario characters like princess peach or rosalina will ever exist.
Agreed. The original "Super Mario Bros" saved video games.
1989kirby,there is a world 9 in the lost levels version. you have to beat the whole game without warping. worse yet, some warps take you backwards!
I never understood why it was fire in the water...OR the fact that u can use your fireballs in the water...lol..Mario was an all-time classic though!!
Those were no ordinary Fireballs since ordinary fireballs would have fizzled out underwater.
Also, video games have more leeway in environmental uses than we think.

I got stuck on the same part you did in 8-2. It because of this jump, I have never beaten this game.
I've never been able to beat 8-4.
The best review for the best game ever.
Well done, Aqualung. I look forward to more reviews of revolutionary/classic games.
Well done, Sir Aqualung. Your best review, for one of the best games of all time, arguably the single-handed savior of the video game industry. (Maybe even inarguably!) Ken, Out of all the reviews you've ever done, This one has to be the best out of all of them!
I like your style man, good work
Right on man that was an awesome 3 part video. I thought about reviewing Mario Brothers a long time a go but I decided against it.
2008? Wow! It's already been 10 years!
kudos all the way. You've included lots of secrets that I knew about and a few I didn't. Plus I never realized there were repeats of levels in this game like the ones pointed out.
Great set of videos aqua, keep it up : )
Great videos and great reviews. You never explained the flagpole / time correlation for castle fireworks. :-) Thanks for the vids!
your voice really is soothing
@Starscream183 Yes, there is one in the middle of the two pirana plants guarded by the buzzy beetle, in the beginning. It's hard to get (you have to jump on the beetle but not send him flying) but you can get it if you are careful.

i enjoy ur reviews.. good job dude

I think i never got past those 4 ground based hammer bros on the second to last level.
NICE! By far i'd say the best game u reviewed =D, are u gonna do Super Mario 2 & 3?
I'd say it was SMB3 that Dry Bones made their first series appearance. The World 1 Fortress, as I recall. Yeah.
Indeed she does. XD At least they improved her design in SMB2 thank goodness.
Aaaah, Super Mario Bros. although it's not the magic wonder child people make it out to be. Totally incorrect.
The jump in 8-2 can be made from the pipe. For years I thought you had to use the two tiny platforms, but you don't.
Great stuff.
Are you gonna do Mario Bros. 2?? I've heard people hated it, but it was my favorite when I was young.
There are actually two "Super Mario Bros 2" versions. The first one is a revamped version of "Doki Doki Panic" and the second is "Super Mario Bros: The Lost World"'s original Famicom version that wasn't released for the NES.
aqualung, if you haven't already, you should review super mario bros 3.
thank you for an exlnt review!!
@NicksComments That was Super Mario Land that you played for Gameboy. This is Super Mario Bros. They are two very different games.
bad ass man, thanks!!
i cant remember. do you keep the new world after beating the game. or do you have to beat the game everytime you turn the game on to get the level change option?
awsome! @ 3:22 i always ran off the pipe, across the 2 small blocks, and jumped and made it. you should have given the game and A+++++!
those are some hardcore motherfuckin' fish right there!
I NEED flower power in order to do the last half of 8-3 and all of 8-4. It's a tough game.
You also need speed jumping abilities as well.
World 8 really is the monster level.
i hate the hammer bros
Same here.
you dont mess with those freakin fish
Love it.
I never knew mario bros had a new game+
is there a world 9???
I don't know. I don't think so.
There is, however, one secret world that loops and is only found after you win the game. It's found in World 1-2 after winning the game, and there's no escape, so it's not worth finding.
does anyone know if it's possible to complete world - 1?
It's not possible to complete World -1.
The whole level loops and there's no way out.
woot go mario!
you can also just run fast across it
Nope. Dry bones shows up in SMB 2 as the ghost of the first koopa you beat in the first game.
I'm pulling your leg of course. Yep. Dry bones first showed up in 3.
u should rate it with stars next time to cause we all know stars are more better then letters
I love it. the two top comments are two women (I think) fighting. zero relevance, just like my comment. I wonder what aqualung would think.
I just noticed there are very few coins in World 8.
And even fewer Super Mushrooms and Fire Flowers.
in worlds 7 and 8 hammer bros on the top block can drop all the way down to the bottom. (no,really) also,i accidentally put bullet bills instead of hammer bros xD

I have to say, I never really understood what people saw in this game.
nice!
@Armalizilto lol i agree
yeah...that´s some motherucking hardcore fish right there..living in lava :)
6:17 except he throws hammers and breaths fire at the same time
thats fucking awesome!!!!!
Oh. I guess it's kinda sad that there was little effort. oh well.
and at 3:33 i always start running from the pipe
@radavis76 My "thugs" and I just LOVE your new group! You're going to have more members than you ever dreamed of, awake or asleep! Thank you VERY much! 8-D
@buuski 7-1 is terrible too
my friend ued to call those fireballs in mario RADISH!!
I cant stand Mario games there must be something wrong with me. Im terrible at them
Super Mario games take time, patience, and practice to play.
I still haven't been able to get past that first chasm in World 8-4, so you're not alone.
@radavis76 You have a rich and fertile fantasy life. Go to bed now, and stop thinking about me.
@radavis76 Like i said, I'm seeing slander from BOTH of you. So, like how your saying she's spreading lies about u, u cant sue or do anything about it cuz ur just a guilty. I told her the same thing
radavis76 was never guilty of any slander, period.
Only beadbop is guilty of slander.
