I recommend buying and playing it. Not just to support the devs, but because it's easier to get working and it runs waaaaaay better. They didn't add hot keys but they did add the weapon wheel from the PS2 version which is better then nothing.

From the bottom of my heart thank you this is my favorite game and I dont think anyone has made an in depth review of Freedom Fighters like yours. Between the genius of Jesper Kyd and one of the true guerrilla warefare experiences this game holds a very special place in my heart

I fondly remember playing this game, I was so scared of the one level where I had to kill the general all by myself.
Yep, I had a squad for so long that dealing with so many enemies without one was intimidating.
That opening. Goosebumps
This game was amazing music on point. Squad system was perfect and you truly felt like you were leading an army to the battle. Seeing so many enemies on screen in last battles in game was insane.
This is my favourite game of all time morning school I would spend hours and hours playing this

I can’t even put into words how much this game means to me. Forget nostalgia. This game made me question what we’d see in terms of graphics in the future. This game opened my imagination to what games could be. Sadly we were mostly disappointed to a massive degree….
this game taught me a lot about positional combat, and curved grenade shots.
now, every time I can, I pick up artillery in every FPS I play, and land the craziest mortar strikes on camping enemy snipers.
more often than not, I get kicked for "hacking" because of how I manage to land curved shots from above.
Yes games like MASS EFFECT or the BROTHERS IN ARMS series have profited from that I am shure.
This was one of the few shooters I liked at the time, and enjoyed the squad tactics. My only gripe with the game is they didn't do more with the property.

This game is absolutely amazing. Definitely in my top games of all time. I still play it to this day on my ps2. Also great video as well

I remember playing this game when I was a kid and was sick and tired of GTA games. I was never into FPS war games but Freedom Fighters being a 3rd person action shooter got me hooked instantly. very nostalgic. brings back many good memories.
I would like to see a remake of this game someday. IO Interactive has to do something else besides just Hitman games at some point. I've heard they will make a James Bond game or something?
but I think the closest thing to Freedom Fighters these days might be Ubisoft's The Division games. or Ghost Recon Wildlands/Breakpoint.
Great video! There’s one thing that bothered me about the mole - throughout the game, you hear him speaking in perfect, clean, almost native-level english. Why did he switch to a thick russian accent after it was revealed he was a KGB agent?
If your asking with in the context of the game world, it's because he was faking the accent. Some people are really good at that. As an example look at the voice actor for Colonel Bulba. His names Nicholas Worth. His IMDb page says he was a character actor going all the way back to the 80's. He died back in 2007 at the age of 69 *nice 👌
@@clockwolf4359 yeah, I was talking specifically about Bulba (I referred to him as the mole to not spoil the twist). I guess, being a KGB agent, you can assume he had the training and the experience to fake an American accent (think the deep cover KGB agents from the tv series The Americans). My question was, why did he choose to speak in such a thick Russian accent as Bulba. Maybe for propaganda purposes? This thing bothered me way more than it should’ve lmao

I was trying to remember what this game was called last week. Thanks for reminding me. I had loads of fun with this game way back when.
I decided to try this game because it looks and sounds interesting and because i saw it returned to steam which is cool seeing such an old game get published again in steam

Omg I remember this game was so good and I had so much fun what made biggest impression on me is that squad system that is so simple and yet so effective with almost 0 glitches. Also graphics was very nice and I remember my PC struggled with many FPS games in that time that somehow had worse graph than FF but this game was very smooth.
Strange thing is although I was a lot in FPS games in that time I never heard about it and run in to it by luck, some kid was selling CD of it out on street...
If any, this game deserves sequel and I would not mind if they dont change anything in it but just add more maps. Maybe we go to England, France, Germany,... and in third we go to Russia or something like that :D
We should somehow organize and make them do it haha
You made nice video of this game and one point I dont really remember and probably I missed is saving Isabella although played it so many times, but hey I could just get it and go do it what I probably will soon

@@clockwolf4359 to increase the difficulty of the Game ....and to increase enjoyment I always go with the hard ways......Like ....doing fire station level without blowing helipad and bridge.....it will increase the difficulty of the game...and that will be fun.
@@clockwolf4359 Yeah this game in terms of stealth mechanics was lacking, I'm glad you mentioned how the AI doesn't take notice of blatant gunshot noises most of the time. They never ring alarms or anything either which would be a neat mechanic. Like you can shotgun blast every enemy prior to reaching Tatarin but it's not until you blast his head off that the Island security gets it's shit together lol.
That being said, there's really no reason the game should give an instant game over unless you die. I never knew you could get instant game overs at any point in the level, so that's lame if that's a thing.
The other strategies have small advantages I should mention. If you kill the armored turret guard, you get to take his gun to use in the sewer level. The turret is the best gun, and can be used conservatively through the rest of the game (except the Island invasion level where you lose all equipment). You can also choose to use a grenade/molotov to kill the general from a distance and avoid the snipers and guards entirely. It's not Hitman good, but it's replayable and a quick breather mission. What REALLY blows is that godawful sewer level.

Thanks for covering a game that was a big part of my childhood. It isn’t a 10/10 but I really loved this game as a kid.
Your channel is criminally underrated
This game featured a couple of funny and interesting exploits, one of the most notable ones was farming charisma on POW prisoners using medkits, that one depended on medkits on the map, but it made me able to get all the way up to level 10 charisma (and I was probably at 12 by the desperate revenge level) , the exploits of this game are very memorable to me.
41:30 I tried Going directly to FORT JAY .....but the Gates were closed....LOL....😂😂😂 A Message came up that complete other level to open the Gates.
That didn't happen for me. I tested it out and took the artillery last. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Mabey it was a glitch or it had something to do with the version I played.
BTW Freedom Fighters is out on Steam & GOG now. The retail version runs way better then the patched pirated version so I recommend buying that one.
Amazing retrospective. One minor mistake was that the Machine Gunner first appears in Desperate Revenge, still you will not see him if you try to snipe Tatarin instead of attacking the guards under his balcony.

Fun fact: if the soviet special troop (the one with strangle maneuver and smg) chokes your teammate, and gets shot at, it dies (no reviving!)
One of the best 3rd person squad based shooter game.....In my opinion We can say that PUBG has inspired from it's squad based tactics.
BTW great detailing and suggestion are provided by you.......I hope there will be a remastered version or a sequel in some point in future.....You got new sub BTW.

As others already have stated the game became a new actuality with the war in the Ukraine.
There is much talk among fans of FREEDOM FIGHTERS about a fallow up. In a way FALL OF LIBERTY and WORLD IN CONFLICT came closest in style and sturcture eve though it was about a German Invasion of NY.
To me the game reminds me a lot at the Pilote of the success TV series SLIDEERS when the team landed in a Russian occupied San Francisco.
32:58 It depense it you have watched some spy movies from the Sixties and Seventies or not. There such a move was common as in the novel and the movie version AVELANCHE EXPRESS or TELEPHON - worth watching

I saw this yesterday on Steam page and I almost... who am I kiding... I lost my shit and bought it in an instance.
Not only this game is super duper fun to play, even after 17 god damned years of the original release, not only it is super duper cheap right now (a -34% sale on to the release (so its like 10$), son!), but it goes with the masterful OST made by Jesper "Fuckmothering I made the "Blood Money - Apocalypse" track" Kyd! Like this is worth to pay this amount of money JUST FOR THE OST!
I love listening to the soundtrack and playing COD or Last of Us Multiplayer

I love this game but oh man, New Yorkers using guns, fighting Communism and fighting for American freedom 😂. This game scenario didn’t age well. In a mere 20 years.
There are hotkeyes for weapons they are from f2 through f9
Is that in the version that was recently released on GOG and Steam? Because the emulated version that I played for this video didn't have that.

This could've been the greatest game of all time if they hadn't forced you to play as the bad guys. The story is completely unrelatable.
