- I'm excited to share my first vlog of 2021! In this video, I share a magical snowy weekend, where the landscape surrounding us seemed to transform into Narnia. Mum and I enjoyed some weekend strolls, crunching through the snow, and we took you along with us. I also chat about the books and a beautiful antique side-table that I got for Christmas.

Dear Miranda, You live in such a magical corner of the world! Gray days never look lovelier than when snow is falling. Usually I prefer the light of an overcast day in winter. I think because the sun-glare on snow overpowers the subtle colors of winter. But that soft pinky-golden daybreak and late-day light that you capture is just breathtaking. It was a joy to crunch along in the snow and warm by the fire with you!

Miranda, this was an absolutely exquisite video. From the lovely walks in the snow to the sharing of your beautiful Christmas gifts and ending with your beautiful mum sitting cozily by the fire. I am most envious of the copy of The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. The cover of the book is so beautiful - it makes me want to get lost in that beautiful, innocent story once again. Oh how glad I am that I saved this, how absolutely wonderful. I have spent an amazing half hour wandering in the snow. It is an incredibly beautiful environment in which you live and we are so lucky that you share it so generously. I am snug and relaxed now, ready to press on with my reading of Villette. I wish books today had those lovely illustrations like they did in the past. Lately, I've been going to a lot of second hand bookstores (many of which sell used books and donate most of their profits to various charities/people in need) and I've found some real gems from the past, with wonderful illustrations and covers. They're art work really...
I must say that the music you select is always perfect. Could you consider adding your selections. I know we are into August now but as I am from Alabama in the USA I am a lover of England, books, snow, music and your vlogs! You truly have an artist's eye with the camera so all is extra special!

I wish I could find Cut off from Crumpets and Sand in our Shoes! Btw, I was five in the winter of 1963 and remember tramping through the snow to school - no snow days for schools back then!

Your bird feeders will give you hours of pleasure, I was lucky enough to see not the usual one, but 2 robins on mine yesterday 🤩. I’ve got a few bird baths dotted around too, there’s nothing more entertaining than watching a gang of birds bathing together 😂

Thanks so much, Karen! The birds have been loving the coconut halves! I could spend hours watching them. We’ve had robins too & lots of great tits. I’d love to get a bird bath at some point too. Our neighbour even bakes seeded biscuits for the birds so they’re pretty spoilt round here 😂

What a delightful vlog, thank you! I love the snow. And what lovely books you got for Christmas! The copy of The Little White Horse is gorgeous. I read it for the first time in 2019 and loved it. I think a re-read is due soon. I read Apple Bough last year for the first time and it is so fun. I got six Persephone books for Christmas!

I’ve been able to obtain a copy of Alison Uttley’s The Country Child and am enjoying reading that because of your ComfBook Club. So now I have some more books to search for. Thank you.
Cannot tell you how excited I was to see Cut off From Crumpets. I had that very edition of this book as a child and adored it. I have a vivid memory of reading it in the heat of the summer lounging on the sofa. When I eventually raised my head to look out of the window I couldn't believe there wasn't any snow on the ground. Sadly I no longer have the book and my mum ant find it either so I guess it got given away. Every so often I remember and try and track it down, but no joy so far. You have spurred me on to start searching again xxx
Oh gosh- that was just beautiful. Yorkshire is one of my favourite counties, my husband and I had many holidays there before our children were born and your it’s are making me want to return.
The Little White Horse was one of my favourite childhood books - I agree about the description of Maria’s bedroom being wonderfully evocative. I remember being particularly jealous of the little box of biscuits!
Your mum and I are almost the exact same age, 63/64 obviously produced a good vintage of women (and devoted mums!) x
I absolutely loved the description of her bedroom and that biscuit box too! Much of the novel I can't remember now, so I'm looking forward to returning to it again. Yorkshire is indeed such a beautiful county; we're so enjoying experiencing our first year here (even if not in the most ideal circumstances!) xxx

I wasn't familiar with Noel Streatfeild's book "Apple Bough" but found it was later renamed "Traveling Shoes". I haven't read it and so did a bit of research, laughing out loud at one reviewer's comment, "I want to come home from a hard day of being the best at everything and be fed a tea with five different kinds of cake." Doesn't everyone, child and adult alike?!

I just loved the fresh snow with the sunlight catching the tops of the hedges and the shot of that elegant gate was such a treat. What lovely presents too. A present I especially enjoyed getting this year was the centenary edition of J R R Tolkein's Letters from Father Christmas. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to make a vlog right now but, honestly, this was exceptionally lovely with delightful music and we are very lucky that you share your days with us. What a beautiful video. I love the side table. As for books I got for Christmas I did a video on my channel, I don’t usually do a Christmas book haul but I just had so many books in 2020!! I even got a vintage book for Christmas too which is just so lovely

Oh, such a cozy and beautiful winter vlog! I was so happy to watch your video and see all of your Christmas book gifts- so many that l would love to own! Your hardcover children's books (The Little White Horse cover is gorgeous!) are so lovely, especially your Miss Read. That's my favorite book from the Fairacre series.
I was lucky to get a number of wonderful books from my family for Christmas: 'Midwinter Murder' by Agatha Christie from my son, 4 Persephone books (all Dorothy Whipple books that I didn't have - yay!) from my in-laws and 3 Elizabeth Goudge books by Girls Gone By from my husband. My mom also bought me a new Dean Street Press Furrowed Middlebrow book, a small Christmas romance novel and Mrs. Tim's Regiment by D.E. Stevenson. I was really grateful for such beautiful books.
