Was there last week, great atmosphere and friendly staff, well worth a visit and night out. Love the inside, so many interesting things to look at on the walls and ceiling
One of my fav pubs! Came back home to Belfast a few weeks ago with some Scottish friends and took them here. Never disappoints. Looking forward to seeing this vid so I can get excited about coming home in Dec
We are at risk of becoming an impression of what people/ tourists think Belfast and Ireland are like rather than staying authentic and marketing that. Even the more recent new building going up around the city are generic designs that you can see in any city in the world. We as you say could become the cliché Irish Disney on one hand and a bland characterless clone city on the other. We are at the tipping point. Been a patron of The Duke since my early 20s ( a few first date's were had there 😎 ) and even younger with my parents while Saturday shopping in the town. Always a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of craic.
Glad you agree with me Gary. I hoped I wasn’t being too controversial. I still think the Duke is an amazing pub, but all the stuff outside - murals, signage, luminous umbrellas!!!
If The Duke and even the Cathedral Quarter are the only place and area to go with this style I can live with it. The rise of Irish Themed Bars in Belfast is becoming worrying ( Especially some of Names ). We already had Irish bar's in Belfast.. All of them are but with our city own interpretation. Why fix what isn't broken I mean isn't this why the tourists thronged here 10/15 years ago.
Totally agree, it’s Jeggy Nettle this and mcNasties that. Creating Irish themed bars in Belfast is like opening a french style cafe in Paris! I don’t get it!
1:35 i'll take me pint of guiness lad, and after that, i'll take another, yes, i agree with you, it's not what i would expect, reminds me of the freemont street experience in las vegas, actually, it reminds me of a few places in vegas, it's a tourist attraction for sure, you make a great video, regards.
@@nakedireland i'm with you on that, no question that i will visit the crown bar when i visit belfast, i may skip the duke of york bar for something more genuine as i already live in one giant tourists attraction already, thank naked ireland, regards,
Well, I wouldn’t rule The Duke out, it’s nice when you’re inside and it is in a very vibrant part of the city - prob just 10 - 15 mins walk from the Crown, so why not do both? Also Whites Tavern and Kelly’s cellars if you want to make it an interesting pub crawl? I’ve films of those too.
@@nakedireland thats for sure, i'll take your word on it, i plan to visit belfast northern ireland before any other country, and will certainly hit up some of the pubs and taverns while there, belfast is where my mother's mother's side of my family is from, and i dream of going there to see the city and countryside of northern ireland some day, thank you naked ireland, i appreciate your dialogue, regards.
Hi there, Gerry Adams was the leader of Sinn Fein who were the political wing of the IRA during the troubles. Your right in the sense that he claims not to have been a member of the IRA, however he was their political spokesman.
Love Guiness..never been to that place, thanks for giving me an idea of the facade of the place. Great craic!
Yes Ann, I really recommend this pub - very busy, full of atmosphere and great Guinness!
I agree with you!!
Cool and friendly place to have drinks in!!
Hi Paul, yep, I’ve never had a bad night in there. Great atmosphere!

Yip, couldn’t agree more - really interesting inside. There’s a lot of stuff, but it works. Outside - not so good!
Outside works for tourists
So I believe!

It’s a top spot, but what do you think of all the ‘decor’ around the outside?
Don’t understand all the bells and whistles outside really. But it doesn’t deter me from frequenting it, still a great pub on the inside.
Love the Duke. Not worried at all by the over the top tat. Great fun.
After a few pints Johnny it doesn’t matter any more! : )

Thanks, it's nothing compared to the Crown bar, as you've seen.

Allegedly Gerry Adams had nothing to do with that para organisation.
