Just made my lunch and this pops up, amazing timing. Greetings from Split, Croatia!

Sweet, enjoy Croatia. You're from there or traveling?
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Im from Split, and still living here :)
Keep it up Gab. You’re amazing. Always liked your videos.
Croatia has been calling my name for a while now, is Split worth it in your opinion? I will very likely go but I've heard a lotta mixed opinions
No matter where you are, everybody tries to scam you one way or another. What a sad world......
I have eaten Philippine food several times, albeit not in the Philippines. First time was in Antwerp, the food in the restaurant in question was excellent, delicate and on the spicy side. The plates were festooned with flowers! Best of all was when a Philippine lady visited us at home, armed with lots of interconnected pots (there must be a name for this sort of contraption) containing food she'd prepared herself. One of the best meals I've ever had!
Sounds like a tiffin box
Love Sundays 😊❤ all my favorite youtubers are posting! 😎☀️🌊🤗😊❤️ thank you, Gabriel ❤️
I hate that you haven't experienced decent Filipino food Gabriel, so here are cant miss recommendations in Siargao.
1. CEV in General Luna - they serve Kinilaw (think ceviche) and other local diahes.
2. Kurvada - Karinderia (a restaurant where all the dishes are laid out and you just point what you want type of experience)
3. Mama's Grill - Philippines has a huge grilling culture. You just point what you wamt, they grill it to perfection.
You try any one of those spots and I guarantee you'll change your mind about our food culture.
Great, thanks for the tips.
Yes kurvada! And it’s cheap
I love the Vibe’s on that Island Thanks for sharing 👍👍👌💪🙌👋
Great sunny weather
Thanks Gabriel for Another Awesome Adventure Wishing You Safe Travels from NB Canada. I would love to have the Opportunity to Visit The Philippines. It is so Beautiful and the People are so Friendly. 🙂💙👍
Do all Canadians announce where they're from in each comment, or just you?

@@msbluejay3 Split, Croatia? This thread was started with a comment from some mug from Moncton who felt that it was important to share that.☝️
Been waiting since 2020 for you to tour the Philippines
Keep the content coming Gabe. 🌴.
Food quality is my only apprehension for a visit 😅
Very clean
Siargao looks beautiful, Lots of sunshine happening. This is going to be an awesome adventure. Enjoy!😎❤️
Oh I think I'm first 😀 looking forward to watching
Second, enjoy the video.

Excellent informative video! TY!! Food looked good.
4:33 Yes, the tricycles in the Philippines are mostly made out of Kawasaki motorbikes with a makeshift metal contraption or sidecar. I call the Jeepney as "the swag mobile", while the tricycle is "the rizz mobile". Enjoy Siargao Gabe. 😅👍
Hi Gabe: The autorickshaws use the scoter as their engine unlike the tricycles that use a motorbike.
The breakfast looked top tier 😋
That breakfast looked delicious! :)
The beach in front of da Rosa Del Mar in the north is one of the best on the island and the accommodations and food and WiFi better than most spots
pork adobo, chicken inasal, pork or squid sizzling sisig, cansi, bulalo, pancit, caldereta, any kind of grilled fish, preferably pelagic, kinilaw, batchoy, halo-halo. all of these are edible Filipino dishes.
Tocino or tapsilog for breakfast are my favourites
That was great and relaxing. Highly enjoyable. 🙏
It's all good!!
Nice view!
Love the sweaty bear bottle beginning, have a lovely time there 🍻
General Luna got some great places to eat Gabriel! 👍 😊
Amazing place,a true pradise!👍❤
01:16 -- Ahh the joys of precision showering in a wet room, ha!
22:38 -- Sorry to hear you are not thrilled with Filipino food. Adobo, Kare-Kare and Crispy Pata are terrific! Order one of those next time, hey. Any Adobo is good if you want to be safe. Adobo is the national dish of the Philippines. I love it, actually. Pancit with veggies is good, too. And, so are lumpia.
1st time I've seen "tricycle " in this video. 😊
Nobody in USA says hey let’s get some Filipino food tonight
It’s greasy, grissly and awful.
When I saw the "Very Good Ice" sign from your breakfast perch, I immediately was wondering if you were going to 1. notice it 🤞, and 2. comment on it ✅😃 Funny that, since they felt a need to rank their ice on some random and little-known ice rating scale, they chose "very good" Slightly better than just "regular good", but not top notch.
Awesome ice has a nice ring to it.
Very good ice is made with purified water. Not so good ice is from the tap and filled with amoebas, protozoa and bacteria.
will you visit the wakepark? It's worth visiting
Never accept the currency conversion offered by an atm. It’s just a way to charge an extra fee. In any case your home bank is likely going to give you the best rate so let them handle the conversion
Exactly.
It’s the ambiguous messaging on the atm menus that get you. You stand there like a moron while trying to interpret.
@@davidbush131 Exactly, that's their strategy, to confuse you into accepting the conversion, because if anyone actually understand what they were offering and the cost they wouldn't accept it.
You can also visit Camiguin Gabe
Hi Gabriel, instead of having spent all that money on plane tickets to NZ and the Philippines, you could still be in Moorea in French Polynesia, then maybe the absolutely wonderful island of Huahine. For the same money spent...
You do you
The name of this channel gives you a clue as to what this guy is about...
I've been following Gabriel since his recent Tahiti videos. It seems to me that he hasn't marveled once since the Moorea video, publicly anyway...
I like the way you think. However Gabe is a rambling man. He heard the call.
They were called sidecars in the UK. My Dad had one in the 1950/60s
Similar idea but different. The Philippines tricycle is a covered contraption that's attached to the bike and can't easily be removed. It has more space so you can squeeze a few people onto it and/or luggage. Basically it's a fancy sidecar.
Make sure you get that Island Hopping in & visit Sugba Lagoon!!
Try the beef bulalo soup. It's my favorite filipino dish. 😋
Does your bank contact you concerned about atm transactions around the world?
No, they must be used to it by name, my debit card always works. Every once in a while my credit card will decline a transaction and they send a text message which I can respond to and then it's unlocked right away.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Thanks Gabe and enjoy Siargao!
I have been to the Philippines for few months and the food was actually pretty good. My tip is not to go to to those hole-in-the-wall, makeshift small restaurants. I actually like Bicol Express, Sisig, Shrimp Tamarind Soup, Palabok, Pancit, Chicken Inasal, Mechado, Lechon, Bulalo to name a few. Those breakfast tocino and tapa with garlic rice and eggs are absolute bombs. They do have dishes with innards which I try to avoid. And, I also like anything ube.
Good to know, I'm open minded, will do my best to find some tasty stuff.
Hey Gabe! I'm arriving in the Philippines next weekend for some waterfall/snorkeling adventures in Cebu (Moalboal) and then a boat expedition Coron - El Nido. How is the rain situation there now? Palawan is totally flooded it seem :( So much for dry season..
It wasn't rainy at all on Mactan island, then I lucked out here on Siargao and it was sunny the first two days. But it's been raining the past 24 hours. So we'll see how it goes from here, but it's definitely on the rainy side.
@GabrielTravelerVideos Oh man, not what you want in a country where activities on the sea are the main draw...praying for a sunny change next week 🙏
Hip hip hooray!
Gabriel if I’m thinking about doing the Greek Islands for a month and then doing the EURail pass should I get 2 of the 4 day passes and then stay in each place 3 days or do the 4 island one and then pay for all the side day trips and stay in each place a week? The pass also doesn’t cover all the boat companies.
I'm not sure about that. I haven't gotten a Eurail pass since 1990 and I got a two month pass then. So I really don't know how they work now.
How was the weather yesterday there? I know the forecast is bad for today. Thanks.
It was great until 2:30 in the afternoon, then it started pouring and has been raining since.
I am surprised how many people don´t know about those ATM scams. Most ATMs in Thailand also have this "feature" . I met people who come to Thailand every year for 10 years, frequently getting money at the ATMs and still did not know about it.
Vanboys youtuber loves that town you are in
That's one place where you really need to rent a scooter to explore properly
Absolutely
Hey Gabriel, Which backpack do you use?
Fieldline Tactical Delta 65L.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Proves that you can get a super durable backpack without spending 100s. I'm assuming it has most of the features and configuration you like?
& the mini backpack which is always with you? @GabrielTravelerVideos
Outdoors brand, not sure of the exact name, I got it at Walmart.
Hi Gabe, lived in Cebu for 6 years ...makes me a bit nervous watching you walking in the same direction as the traffic.I always walk, especially seeing as there are no sidewalks ,facing the traffic so you see can potential danger where vehicles and drivers are not paying attention to pedestrians.Stay safe Gabe. 17:46
That's a safe practice to follow wherever you are, so you can be aware of cars coming toward you!
Turned out nice. Looks decent. Looks like your kinda place.
Philippino food favorites I'd definitely recommend you try chicken adobo or beef calderata ` for dessert / sweet Leche Flan a (very sweet `
- delicious with coffee) or halo halo 🙂
👍 👌
I'm warming up to the Philippines more, it looks just fine and okay 👍
The water and the people are the best things. Everything else is mid.
@davidbush131 I agree, it's not a particularly exciting country, but that's fine
About the food, I had some good pancit in Luzon with halo halo for desert, but overall it is disappointing. I don't know what they do with the good meat, maybe sell it for cat food, but so much of the meals is just skin, lard and organs.
Funny you should tell that atm story in Greece. GREECE the country where I learned to deny the conversion. They got me for $40 bucks. Always decline and also if you use card to pay for something, always pay in local currency.
They have them in Thailand and Laos, out of the big cities in Thailand, Isaan 100%.
I'll keep my eyes open for them in other countries and point them out if I see one.
@GabrielTravelerVideos In Thailand, they are side cars on a motorcycle and half a motorcycle with a bench seat behind the driver, bit like a trike. It was mostly in smaller towns like Udon Thani, Lopburi etc and I used them in Vientiane.
Yes, seen those for sure but they look very different from the Philippines tricycles. So I was referring to those specific contraptions, whatever the exact term is. I'm sure they call them something other than a tricycle in the Filipino languages.
Here comes the sun, And I say it's all right - George Harrison
Do do do do do do do do do dodododo.
Were the prawns fried? if so I believe the locals eat them without peeling them, same in Thailand.
No way you would want to eat those as they were without peeling them, tons of very hard exoskeleton and other stuff. That's why they gave me the gloves, so you can tear them apart and find the meat inside. But maybe I'm wrong and the locals just go for the whole thing.
Great video! It may be even more interesting if in the videos you can connect with some locals and make the videos even more lively! Thanks!
I mean to interact with the locals or even tourists in these locations.
I don't know where you ate, Gabriel, but based on the look of the foods you ordered, even I, a Filipino, think it doesn't look very tasty. You can ask your subscribers for recommendations on where to order good Filipino food, especially since you're now in Siargao.
Exactly! You can't base an entire country's cuisine on what you order from a shopping mall takeout! He should read up on what Filipino cuisine is, and get a feel for which dishes he might enjoy.
interesting what you say about the currency conversion
👍👍👍
A tricycle is basically anything with 3 wheels as far as im aware as indeed a riksha. A bike with sidecar would therefore be a tricycle, but a tricycle would not necessarily always be a bike with sidecar. Oh and bad ice? Yeah in a country like that you have bad ice for sure. Maybe not as bad as in India where its best avoided entirely unless its like a quality place where you can be sure they didnt use contaminated tap water.
That was a silly attempt at a joke but yes, ice made with untreated water would definitely be bad ice. Technically speaking, any three wheeled vehicle could be considered a tricycle. But if you're in India, Thailand, etc. nobody calls them tricycles, they're rickshaws or tuk tuks.
@GabrielTravelerVideos Haha yeah im sure that somebody as familiar with India like you has plenty of "bad ice" experiences... :D
Miraculously I've actually never had food poisoning or any bad stomach sickness.
top 5 country food on your list? i know first is greece..
Number one is actually Mexican, then it's kind of a tie between Greek, Italian, Indian, Thai. And Guatemala has the best breakfasts: ruclips.net/video/hjhux9zChHY/видео.html
Seems to be a high percentage of female tourists in Siargao. I'll presume it is safe!
The thing you're calling a tricycle is actually just a motorcycle with 'sidecar'
True, but that's what they call it, it's a specific covered design: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorized_tricycle_(Philippines)
I dont see part 2 anywhere.
I edited it today and will post it soon, probably tomorrow. ✌️
shrimp is a US word honestly, in APAC 'prawn' is generally the word for the animal that youd call a 'shrimp' the small orange one. never growing up there did i come across the word the shrimp
Yes, I think "shrimp" are just basically prawns that already have the shell removed for you.
No shirt, no shoes, no problem…Enjoy.
I think I would fear for my safety walking down that road!
I think your safety is compromised
Have you met the family (you tuber family) “ 8 miles from home” . they are a British couple living on Siargao Island for several years?
Why would you want him to meet them? They, 8MilesfromHome, do not want want to meet him for they do not know him at all.
👍

Find Island Barbie!
Those rickshaws made by a Indian company called Bajaj are taking over the world.
Hi there:;
Maybe start at 30P for the Tricycles…..
Once I saw 5 people on a motorbike…
Those trikes don't look dangerous at all.
Wait until the first time you bang your head getting in or out. Also the motorbike fumes (and noise) invades your tranquil ride. You feel like a dope riding around in them.
😁👍
What ever you do don’t order Bault 😂😂😂! Adobo is good 👍 If to come across it

@@BigBillyBowden Great detective work!
i know this old guy!
Isn't the definition of a tricycle a vehicle with three wheels?😂
The tricycles according to your definition are very very common in Cuba. Some of the them with engines and most of them without.
Technically you're correct, but practically speaking nobody calls a rickshaw a tricycle, at least not in India, Nepal, Thailand, etc.

Try the sizzling sisig .. t good for breakfast or anyrime. 100 peso to go 2km is very expensive. I think you are paying a foreigner tax. Maybe let the driver give you price..
Where are you headed next in the philippines?
That’s pigs ear.
Don’t buy any kind of international food in the filipinas, just eat lechon and the regular filipinos food
Does it even make sense for people living in Central Europe to go to Philippines when the Mediterranean Sea is around the corner ?

Let's be honest, any sane person would prefer backpacking the Med if they didn't have budget constraints
It's not 30 degrees though here on the Med now and the Med is not a tropical paradise😉
Less than 10 Celsius in athens. Rainy, windy and miserable
Thanks guys, I'd forgotten about the whole summer / winter distinction
A lot of food in Siargao is quite overpriced. Your best bet for the best Filipino dishes is either Iloilo or Bacolod. "Iloilo is rich in history, culture, and great food.
I love the Philippines but the food is not one of the highlights. It reminds me of hospital food or school dinners.I mostly stick to western food when traveling there.
There is tasty local food in the Philippines. Obviously if you don't bother with it and go to an Americanized styled restaurant, then you're not going to get any real impression of real Filipino food whatsoever.
Siargao is a Tourist Island that caters a lot to Tourists.
Yeah i agree with the food sucks part. Just got back from that area and the island of Leyte. Love the people , but man they need to start raising some cows. Theres a new restaraunt there and they have a great cheese steak sandwich i cant renember the damn name though now. Owned by a foreign guy.
Phillipines is surely famous for some beautiful looking ladies😊
The men are very handsome, too! 😎
Every guy over 40 has a 19 year old on their arm. You see it everywhere.
Maybe try Cebuana for getting cash? It's their version of Western Union
Not familiar with it but if it's anything like Western Union that would be a helluva lot more complicating than just going to an ATM. How would that even work, have someone back home go to your bank, withdraw money, then go to Western Union or Cebuana, wire it to you for a fee (it isn't cheap), then you have to find their office to go pick it up? Maybe I'm missing something but of all the options I'm aware of using an ATM is the best one.
Don’t really get why you wouldn’t get the Schwab card, minimal effort to open, maybe doesn’t add up to a lot in a month, but what about a year, a life time?
Mongolia and filipino foods are the worst I have experienced. I am not picky at all either. (however, that breakfast looked perfect) Perhaps they have changed, in fact, Ill bet Mongolia has evolved quite a bit. But the noodles and mutton in the outback so to speak, got old fast. Al contrario, I have had fish in dusty villages in the baja of MX that were extraordinary, nothing fancy, no monied towns, just grandma cooking fish with spices over a fire.
I watch many American RUclipsrs married to Filipino lady’s and the don’t like there food .
7
Reminds me of Ecuadorian food ,chicken and rice or fish and rice . No thank you.
Hi Gabriel, you usually find Asian food very appetizing. It may also depend on the restaurant that prepares it, but when you try different foods, there are some you may not like. It's always good to stick with the most popular meals that you are familiar with.
The Philippines is renowned for the food generally not being great.
I like to find out about new dishes, so often what I'll do is order two or three dishes, especially if they aren't too expensive, so that if I don't like one I'll have something else that hopefully I will like. If I do like it then I know that's something I can order again in the future. I don't like to just stick to what I'm familiar with, though sometimes you're less in the mood to take chances and want something reliable.
