    I've been on this one. They said not to put your hands up. I said, "pfff, amateurs, I want my hands up for the picture." Long story short, I got whiplash and spent the rest of the day limping and there was no photo.

      from google: "injury caused by a severe jerk to the head, typically in a motor-vehicle accident."
      Since my head wasn't against the seat back, my torso jerked back suddenly as the ride went from 0 to 240 km/h in 5 seconds.

    It may have been the best roller coaster I've been on. I personally thought it was totally worth waiting in line for. It doesn't actually look as fast as it feels. It was incredibly fast at the launch and I didn't mind it slowing down later on, it was still amazing.

    When you are moving that fast you do not need jerky turns, loops, or movements of any kind to feel the thrill. That is the fastest coaster in the world, consistently through the ride. It is absolutely exhilarating. You have no clue until you ride it

  • @justuslm
    @justuslm 7 лет назад +140

    I'll just geek out right here: To accelerate this quickly, they have designed a special rope lift kinda thing: A compressor fills a big tank with nitrogen (so it basically acts as a pump for an even bigger compressor) for I think around a minute (not sure on the time). This insane pressure is then used to push forward the rope lift, giving it insane power and acceleration. This way, the trains gets all the way to 240 kph. Due to this speed, the tires heat up quite a bit, so when the train has come back to the starting point, water is sprayed on the wheels to cool them down. That's why there's a little bit of water on the train, too. This water spraying is particularly needed since Abu Dhabi is very hot and sandy, which also means the roller coaster requires a lot of maintenance and was - like the Burj Khalifa - built in the wrong place, at least in regard of optimal climate.

    Oh, and by the way, to all those that are commenting about how there is rain, it's not. In the station they spray the front of the train with water, because I'm sure you all can imagine the huge amount of air friction these things are exposed to, right?

    • @disinfect777
      @disinfect777 9 лет назад +11

      air friction is not a problem. the water is to cool the rubber wheels.

    • @jakehartung3655
      @jakehartung3655 9 лет назад +8

      It's actually a slingshot that launches the coaster, the water is to cool the cables and the amount of friction created pulling this thing to such a high speed.

    • @MondoCoasters
      @MondoCoasters 9 лет назад +2

      I know how Intamin's accelerator coasters work, but what I meant by that, Jake Hartung ,was that the high winds hitting the car heat it up, and it needs cooling down. My point was that it's not rain, but merely water that is sprayed on the train when it's resting in the station.

    • @jakehartung3655
      @jakehartung3655 9 лет назад +4

      It's not going fast enough for winds friction to be a problem.

    • @gostboy56
      @gostboy56 9 лет назад +4

      Leonardo Bruzzone The things that heat up the most are the cables, wheels, pulleys, and the hydraulic motor. They don't spray water on the body of the train to cool it down from air friction. If you look at the launch track of some of the faster intamin accelerators, you'll notice that at several points, water is coming up from the trough the catch car rides in. This is to cool the cable but sometimes it comes up and hits the train.

    Nice POV video, but it's really hard to capture exactly how fast this thing is. Believe me, it's not a boring ride. I only rode once (but wish I had the opportunity to ride it again), but sat in the front and it was an incredible ride. The feel is much different than a more traditional coaster and it's definitely not my favorite, but well worth the experience to feel that kind of speed, especially the take off. So fast.

    When I rode this, I felt something different after the first hill. I didn't know till after the initial 150mph LAUNCH, the train is then reduced on the hill to only 90mph. This roller coaster only has its speed record for the launch. It doesn't even have the balls to complete the entire circuit using its maximum speed. At least Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster's drops let you experience gravity's natural pull.

    • @tiki2188
      @tiki2188 10 лет назад +97

      You do realize there is no way it could travel at 149 mph right? Like forget balls and blah blah look how hardcore I am, it just couldn't that...it would be dangerous to ride. Let's say it's allowed to just run at that speed. First hill is 170 some feet, that is too small to handle that speed, people are bitching about Skyrush...the negative Gs of taking this hill at near 150 would be horrible, the Gs throughout would be nuts, and all the small hills would again have too great a G force. It does seem the ride could go faster, as this is very drawn out and seems to have no airtime or even intensity, but it can't just travel at 140+ you loon

    • @Blast2224
      @Blast2224 10 лет назад +14

      Then why not make it taller? Make it longer? Give it more record breaks in terms of height or length?

    • @tiki2188
      @tiki2188 10 лет назад +40

      Blast22 It'd have to be crazy massive, and thus costly, think about it...M Force hits 93 mph and it well over 6000 feet long, TTD and KK involve going up 400 feet. I agree it's kind of a waste to simply grab the record for the sake of doing it, but simply what you want to see is not realistic. It'd be so amazingly huge, and chances are not forceful at all, since you can't do anything that intense traveling at 140+ mph I assume you're having some fun, this is what the internet is for, so I'll not continue on....you must realize there's no way to make a ride big enough to handle those speeds, if so it wouldn't be that great. Peace

      @joaoalmeida8032 10 лет назад +18

      The reason why it isn't taller is becasue there is a height restriction for the park. Still, I do find it annoying that they have all those brakes right after the launch.

Absolutely loved it and i feel like even if you go to Ferrari World just for this it will be worth your time. When I rode that, I was shocked when it started, but the slow thing that happened at the first hill, it kinda ruins it, once it finished, I asked the employee why they slowed the first hill, he said "that's why we slowed it because of the intense speed that the roller coaster can dispatch it's track, and can cause some heart problems

  • @77chonyc

    When will they invent coasters that ride on magnets so there is no friction?? That would be cool and the speeds can go as high as you want!

    • @77chonyc
      @77chonyc 10 лет назад +6

      Remo Williams I actually think the costs would not be that high once they design the first one. Im no pro, but believe some bullet trains are using this technology already. With the technology we currently have i dont believe this to be impossible and we should see it in the next couple of years imo. I also believe we are reaching the limits of what is possible with the current system we are currently using. Another benefit to a magnetic system is that they would not need the cable to launch you like they use now, since the magnets themselves can launch you.

    • @MrMichelNL
      @MrMichelNL 10 лет назад +7

      There always is friction no matter what, you mean that the magnets would keep the coaster on a constant speed?

    • @77chonyc
      @77chonyc 10 лет назад +2

      MrMichelNL Something like that. What i was thinking is to have magnets instead of wheels, so the coaster is slightly suspended on them. This can also be used to propel the coaster forward. I cant see how this will have friction.

    • @jethred_
      @jethred_ 10 лет назад +10

      77chonyc The real issue here is drag, not the rolling friction of the train on the track. Drag, or air resistance, gets nasty quick at these high speeds and there is only so much you can do about it without putting a roof on the cars. Without the rush of air, though, the roller coaster would be much less fun.
      A high speed magnetic system could potentially help sustain higher speeds, since it can constantly propel the train, not necessarily because it provides less friction. However, the system would require a lot of energy and the operating cost with respect to capacity would be through the roof.

    • @weswheatley5309
      @weswheatley5309 10 лет назад +14

      Also the risk, with out having the train directly connected to the track turning would be horrendous! If they had a strong enough magnet it would be a good idea but another point in rollercoasters is the price, they cost very little to run as it is mostl gravity, a magnet would cost a lot to maintain

      @russeljohnson9478 10 лет назад +25

      StarOceanSora360 1mph is approximately 0.44704m/s. With this information, we can infer that 100,000,000,000mph which is 1.0x10^11mph, is equal to 44,704,000,000m/s which is 4.4x10^10m/s. The speed of light goes at a speed of 3.0x10^8. With this in mind, we can conclude that if you go 4.4x10^10m/s on this "rollercoaster" that you are breaking the speed limit of the universe that is 3.0x10^8 and breaking the laws of physics, and theoretically traveling back in time or stopping all time together. If you want to defy logic, you're going to have to build a time machine.
