You would probably gotten another 15% out of the battery had you not been messing with the gimbal and other battery using features while flying.
Seriously? 15% used on momentary gimbal servo movement? That would be the equivalent of 2/3 of a prop motor! He would probably save less than .001% without jogging the gimbal.
Na I've tested this for years. They get the same even if it's just hovering or going straight messing with the gimbal or not doesn't matter
I love these range tests, nothing gets the heart popping like the thought of all that money ending up in the abyss! Glad she made it back. 👍
Dude! That was legit great entertainment!! Your commentary was amazing and fun. I literally was sitting on the edge of my seat. I didn't fast forward or anything. So fun!! Well done!!
Great video! I was stressed out watching it lol. I just bought a Mav 2 and videoe like this are so valuable to newbies like me and everyone else for that matter.
Man you had me laughing when you said that you're never doing this again!! So glad you got it back with only seconds to spare.

Think I got whiplash from you messing with that gimbal all the way out.
Man this was really great to watch, the suspense, the commentary, the flight, the view 💯
Every time u get scared I feel you. I guess this just comes with flying drones. If only you could hear or see me when I’m flying lol. You go through so many emotions but love flying💯
Wow!!! Even that I knew the drone made it I was in suspense, good job!
Say what?? Lol. Repeat that in English for me lol
Wow, you have a lot more balls than I ever will. Furthest I've flown my ma2 is 600 meters and that's scary enough. Love the fact that you have that wide open field to do it. Great video.
Thanks man sometimes I’m just a little too risky lol
@@CJMoto sometimes u have to risk something xD
Rth
@@CJMoto Had to laugh though. Yeah baby we made it, we made it. A couple minutes earlier you was about to push the, find my drone button. Magic for the one's who are game enough now.
I had fun listening to your stress LOL... Yep i've been in this situation before as well!
Great flight. You caused the signal lost when you dropped the plane down that far out. Amazing plane i just bought one the Air2 Refurb..👍
Agree with Brian below. I know the wind ordeal and go lower to have less winds. This is indeed true in MOST situations. As for this situation and how far away you were, I was saying out loud, "No stop going down. Signal to low because of how far away your standing is below the horizon of trees blocking your craft from the remote." Staying connected and having fpv and control still is paramount at all times Imo. Other than that this was a great video and thanks for pushing your investment to the max and risking it for others to have a real life example of what to expect as far a performance with the MA2. I love my MA2 and I also have the Autel Evo 2 as my main drone. You should check out that Autel Evo 2 if you haven't already bro. If you got one it would bring a whole other giant group of viewers to the channel. Anyway, thanks again for the other video of when you did the prop stop. That should be enough to stop anyone from wanting to try that function out I'm sure. I am sure being on Gods land brought good graces to this range test nonetheless. God bless, Happy flying.
Another trick to save battery is to shut off the obstacle avoidance. This will save you some battery on your next trip. You don't need obstacle avoidance in your situation.
Thank You!!
Nothing worse than when the screen goes blank and it says you’ve lost signal! Lost my mavic mini about 3 months ago! Thinking of getting the air 2!
I'm really sorry for your loss 😔
Thanks, I’ve got the mavic air 2 now and I love it, although the weathers rarely nice enough to fly it at the moment!
Dang that sucks I’m sorry. I just bought the mavic air 2 and have felt the same way he did lol it’s stressful
1. Always range test your drone INTO the wind, so that when you’re RTH the wind is helping you pushing your drone home.
2. You keep losing connection on the way back because you keep dropping your altitude. Higher altitude gives you a more solid connection.
3. You keep saying the wind is kicking up and making your drone slower on the way back but I honestly didn’t see that. It was doing the same speed at 300 as it was at 100 ft.
I had anxiety watching this. Lol.
Always remember the drone is smarter than YOU! The extra time that is left that people say I've got 5min. left before return to home. You don't. It's to compensate for the unexpected. People will learn. I enjoy your videos. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
My heart can't take this.
Too bad for u bc they was built for this and if u don't do it u should just buy a Walmart toy drone
Great flight….well done
When you are out long distances, you don't want to lose altitude because that is why your signal cut out. When you are holding the RC Controller; point the top of your antenna toward the drone. Hold your controller horizontal and so you get the best range signal. Also try to avoid moving the gimbal as little as possible, because pointing the camera down toward the ground makes it less aerodynamic. The camera facing down catches more wind and makes it harder for the drone to push through the wind. Another tip for getting the best range is to fly in an area that does not have a lot of interference such as power lines, Wi-Fi or Cell phone towers. If you can try to get a location that does not have obstacles that is between you and the drone. Anything like trees buildings powerlines or whatever will decrease the signal power. Nice Job and Happy Flying Hope to see more soon.
Thats amazing that you got 4.6 miles out of that drone! Scary that you lost reception there, you definitely pushed it but I trust return to home! My drone has never not come back! Great video man I really enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Man ... that was really exciting!!!! Great 👍🏾 video my guy!!
wow looking at this now in 2023 is crazy!now I have the air 3 and it can go more than 40,000 ft 46 minute flight time!😊 wow technology
I have a Mavic Air 2 also; I get nervous when I get to the drone to 2000 feet. Great video very cool. May be 24,000 feet one way, but you really did 48,000 feet. MAY 7, 2024
Your a Brave Geeza with that money in the air - I have an Air 2 and took it to 3 miles in the UK and that enough for me
Omg...lol. The suspense! Lol. Glad you made it back
Good job I get nervous at 10,000 feet and bring it back
Nice job! It had me at the edge of my seat. :)
Great flight folks 😬
Moto you da Man!!! By the way if you don't have UAV Forecast you need it. will tell you all wind speed and gust at different Altitudes and wind directions.
Damn! Didn't even fast forward the video, stayed with you till the end. This is scary epic man! Not sure If I want to pull that kind'a stunt with my MA2. Awesome Bro!
Just watched to the end that was really scary but you made it man! Great video!
Hey man you really did a awesome video on this Mavic air2!!Yes I just got this exact Drone and this video just did it for me resting and assuring I made the right choice!!AWESOME HANDS DOWN!!!
That was insane! Best video I've watched. It stressed me out. Lol.
Thanks. 👍🏻
You were brave flying it that far and over all that water and swamps!
It just so interesting the higher you go the much further your range is.
This is because the Earth is obviously round.
The further you go away the more of a curve you have and the actual land can be in between your controller and the Drone because the Earth is curved.
Doesn't matter how far you can go unobstructed if there's obstructions in the way like trees because of the curve as you lose altitude you won't even be able to go 2 mi..
Again this is why you kept losing signal
As for the wind I always check which direction it's coming or going I always want to fly out against the wind and fly back with the wind.
THE WIND MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN HOW LONG THE BATTERY LASTS
;)
Wow! I wonder if this is my problem? Just got my Air 2 last week and I have not been able to go pase 1,500 feet away and I get loss of signal warnings!
@@JQUICK21
It's all about the obstructions in the way.. if you go higher and your range gets better you know it's because of the obstructions.. also if there's a lot of houses in Wi-Fi on the flight that can cause serious problems.
But yeah if you have trees and stuff on the way and you're at ground level the curve of the Earth is going to definitely interfere at lower altitudes.
From my backyard if I go straight up and there are trees in front of me and in the way probably at about 2,000 ft I get tons of interference and it's horrible no matter what drone I've ever had even at 400 ft.
But if I go the other direction when there is no trees no houses in the way my backyard creates an alley with a straight line of sight with nothing in the way. I can go for miles with no interference!!
This is just how the technology is there's nothing you can do about it if there's something in the way of you and your signal it's going to severely limit your range.. the further away you go the worse it gets because of the curve of the Earth.
If we were allowed to go up a 1000 feet these obstructions would not get in the way..
But that's not allowed so.......
Also sure you're aware of the compass in the middle of the screen at the bottom make sure antenna at the top of the controller is directly facing your drone.. the antenna works best when the top of the antenna is pointing directly at the the Drone.. the compass will show you if it's lined up..
Also from what I heard that compass is based off of your phone so if the compass on your phone is off then it's not going to show up right on the screen.
So make sure you calibrate your phone compass every flight or just check it with the compass from the App store.. when you launch the compass app making sure it's pointing towards north.. if not recalibrate your compass on your phone.
Nerve wrecking at the last moment 😄 One note, sometimes on patches where we are returning, I see you lowered the altitude to 100ft odd to get past wind speed but something comes to my mind, what if immediately after that patch some tall trees or posts are there and you would think, I will raise it up when it comes and exactly that moment you lose your signal for a moment, by that time the drone would just go straight into the woods.
Forward sensors/ obstacle avoidance
@@symphonicclown they don’t work that good with tree branches
That was a close call Wow!
Thanks for the risky video, great stuff ... lots of learnings.
1) need a lot more battery % before RTH (not even 60%)
2) Isn't it the higher the attitude; the more windy it is? hence, you should lower the drone instead of go higher during RTH
3) For range test, try to avoid water in your path - you can find your drone on such a wide green/lawn
4) lucky it reached you @3% battery left, wondering what happened when it reached 0% (does it simply fall down?)
No it will not fall out of the sky I’ll make a video on that tonight great question!
😅 woow awesone video and distance range. So nervous !!😬
I'm thinking if doing a range test, why not have the RTH height set, set the gimbal, reach a predetermined altitude, and let it cruise? I don't know much about drones/flying, but it seems like the constant "1,2,3 up...1,2,3 down" moving the camera would just use unnecessary battery power that may be handy for the return flight? Unless the RTH feature is setup to allow the user to input any type of commands during the return flight, and still make it home safely?
this is the most anxiety producing video ever! .. Good lord!
I'm so impressed by the Range!!! omg, and that flight time battery management is very impressive to!
That was a great video it had me on the edge of my seat I have a mavic air 2 also
That was great! I got mine to go around 5-6 miles, but it was over the desert. It gets ya nervous when ya see that battery level dropping! I know the feeeling!
4. You seem to have a nervous tick that involves constantly checking your latency with the gimbal. That probably doesn’t help when you’re down to the wire. Also, dropping altitude only to raise it again when you’re near your home point isn’t ideal either but I’m sure you’re aware of that.
Congratulations man that was one hell of a flight
Mavic Air 2 is rated at 6 MI unobstructed.
It's also rated at 11 MI total distance until battery reaches ZERO ( not straight out RANGE TEST but if you flew the Drone in any direction like in a circle it could go 11 miles ) in any direction
This range shit is BS unless you live in a damn cornfield or very open area your lucky to get 2000 feet out before you loose reception.
@@keronfarrier2198 not true.... check philly flyer ... he does long range in the city
Man you are so lucky that your drone connected back to your rc. The other day mine lost connection and never connected back and I was only half a mile away. But I believe it was cause I some how I entered a no fly zone and so it cut the signal off. Which shouldn’t happen it should have blocked me from even going into it. Well it ended up landing not returning home like it’s supposed to and got ran over. Thank God for Dji refresh care!!
Congratulations bro so beautiful a test absolutely 🕊🕊👏👏
Firstly your drone should be fly high more to avoid signal lost, it's because if your drone flying in very low attitude which the high trees or buildings will blocked your transmittion signal to the drone, especially you planing fly far far away~
Actually 48000 feet both ways very well done!!!!
Greetings from Ireland! Great range test mate ,recently purchased MA2 Great drone 👍
That was awesome!
Fun to watch.
*Hope you guys enjoy it* ?! Menn this looks like a Thriller..Ball-crashing..i enjoyed it a lot..great distance..great video..great drone [ I have this drone to, but I never fly out of sight .. may be next time..thankx menn ;]
You have been officially baptized... welcome to the club!
Lol, great video. Thanks for sharing!
I dig your video !!! mine arives today ...can I use my DJI goggles with this Quad?
Wow! We're you able to receive video signal the whole time? Or is there a point where you just keep going forward and just watching the mini map and the rest of the info?
This was all footage screen recorded directly to my phone

I know this is old, and we all learn things, but you had a "cancel landing" on screen for many minutes. Pushing up against that vs. "tap to cancel landing used a lot of energy - apart from the altitude changes and other actions, it definitely could have been less stressful, sorry for being captain obvious 😅 Not sure what's more terrifying, your stress levels or Dustin Dunnil cool as a cucumber while viewers bite their own fingers off, lol!
i’m not gonna touch it
keeps dropping altitude
why do you drop altitude, you should keep above 300
Top 5 moustaches I've ever seen
Good job CJ. That bird rocks! You were definitely out there! 😅😅😄

Just new to drones, got my mav 2 interested in range tests, seen some pretty good range but in only the best conditions, great video. 20 mph is obviously the best speed. Learned something from that, just like cars the optimal gas mileage comes down to best RPM's. Some day they may come out with a drone with a 4 speed ratio. Gear one would be peppy but not great speed, Gear 2 would be normal speed, Gear 3 would be your sport mode and Gear 4 would be your overdrive. Because the optimal RPM's is the best way for distance I think for any machine. And somehow it would be nice to have some extra juice for emergencies, sort of like a small battery within the main battery. Because it happen to me already as well, when it threatens the emergency landing. Fortunately I got my back to home point before it lands or drops out of the sky. Anyway happy droning. Love all the features on the Mav 2 as well, lot to learn Thanks.
That was Real -Life Drama my friend! Great Job.🙄
Love the flight loved every bit of it
I was out 2 days ago and got caught right out in a proper Scottish dousing! The sun was shining fine one minute then it went dark real quick and a few spots of rain fell, it darkened up even more and the heavens opened up! A proper pissed on session! I thought "thank god for the RTH feature" as i couldn't see "chit"! I hit it, it beeped a few times then told me it couldn't auto return! I'd have to fly home manually! Couldn't believe it! Never even heard of that before! I wasn't too far out but i couldn't even use the camera it was raining so hard! Luckily I caught sight of some car headlights as it was raining so hard and i knew they were kinda heading away from me so i flew towards them and thank god again the church i was near is being renovated(no pun intended) so it is covered in a bright green netting all around the scaffolding. I got to that and worked out where i needed to fly to get landed. The rain was running down my face, the phone was soaking so the picture on the screen was all distorted! The force was strong that day! 😎 A proper trip! My bum still hasn't unclenched properly 2 days later! I thought it was "good bye" beloved Mavic! It just makes me love it all the more. The Mavic Air 2 is a box of tricks for sure! I treated it to a new smart controller for that effort! Now i'm like a kid at Christmas waiting on it being delivered! Scottish weather is a mofo!
Cool video buddy! Keep them coming 👍
Best horror movie i've seen in years haha :P glad you got it back.
Why did you fight the RTH? Just hit Cancel Return.
Wow, this drone is amazing he was 20000 ft away and was at 190 ft high. How was the drone still connected. I have the same drone and when i go that far away at that hight the signal will freez
Where do you live? I have the same issue in GA waaaay to much interference with tree's
yesss vidio
🔥🔥🔥GREAT job bro new sub here 😆much luv UK
Flying over road with 4% battery :P
Lol well that was the only way , if you look closely.
😁 bouto flu across Jamaica with this
I'm not sure your prayers were even listen to with all the cussing and whining you did. But - you made it. Congrats!
I just did 25,660 feet in Arizona over flat desert. In N mode at 401 feet high no antennae boosters and it returned back to me with 15% battery life remaining. In town the range is not that good obviously I wish it was. 30,000 feet is possible but you better know how to fly when you hit that dreaded 9% auto land manual return to home at much slower speeds imposed on you.
I just can't handle anymore of this shit😂😂😂😂 Great test buddy
Why are you constantly tilting the gimbal up and down?
Probably to check the reception to see if it still responds quickly
Just got mine last week and I can go about 1,500 feet out and I start getting loss of signal warnings!....WTF?....Everyone said these and occusinc are good for miles!
It's your area bro. I had the same thing until I got away from all the houses and WiFi. After that it was good to go.
Yes its where u are located the max i got was 7,000 ft in the city of Chicago where there's alot of buildings and to get that i had to stand in the middle of the street where i had a straight clear shot forward!if u go to a beach or a long mile lake it will go much further
Around my house lots of buildings and houses so i only get about 2000 ft before i lost signal but its because of the buildings and houses and light poles
This guy was in the country
My problem exactly
So please tell me what you would have done if your drone dropped into the field, how would you find it?
very nice video😍❤️
Great Video Thanks.. Tommy UK 😊👍✨
That was awesome bro
Hi there.. My Mavic Air 2 won't go over 40km/hr (25mph), even when in sports mode. It doesn't matter whether I'm going with or against the wind... 40kmh/25Mph is the fastest I've got it to go in sports mode. It has the latest firmware. Any idea what it could be? Would changing gimbal settings affect the flight speed at all? I'm clueless on this one.
Nice one mate looking good there great video really nice flying stay safe frend don 🤠🇬🇧👍👍👍👍
That’s awesome and 20 satellites
You made me laugh my ass off Holy shit that was nerve racking just watching your video I could only imagine first person veiwGood job keep up the cool videos Thank you.
Wow that was awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Man that was to close...... Great job and Drone. JMo Spg Hill
nice one
Greatt Video. Had me nervous😂.
Scary stuff I’m looking to get one this thanksgiving if price will drop
Awesome Video..love it
Hey buddy that was real cool man I like that
Mine dropped signal way closer than where yours did and I about lost my mind too so I can only imagine how you felt being like 3-4 miles out and it dropping lol dang!
