- If you like classic sounds, the PB-50 SB has so much to offer: it’s based on the American original from the 1950s, but also has a few modern tweaks and features to entice you. The pleasingly light basswood body is loaded with a powerful single-coil Roswell VTN4 Vista Alnico-5 Vintage PB-Style pickup that delivers a balanced sound with the typical growl you expect from this bass. A bolt-on maple neck with a maple fretboard ensures a snappy response. while the high-quality 2-tone Sunburst finish underlines the timeless elegance of this special instrument.

YOUR STYLE. YOUR GEAR.
Bought one of these when they first launched, that was 7 years back. Wonderful bass, completely changed my playing. I'd spent 30 years playing fancy active basses, PB-50 returned me to my roots of a passive P-bass :-) Caution. Many are unfamiliar with the Roswell pickup brand and think replacing with say a Seymour Duncan or Fralin will greatly improve the bass. It won't, the position of the pickup has a far greater bearing on the tone than magnet material or the wind count.
Wow, thanks for the kind comment! Glad you love it so much :)
I completely agree with you. The pick up is relatively quiet, and I absolutely love the tone. Great low end, but still able to get fairly articulate highs. I've seen a few complaints about the neck being akin to a baseball bat, but it is way nicer than many P-basses I have owned. Honestly, after learning to play on a early '80s Fender P-bass, I pretty much swore them off because of the huge neck! While this neck is not even close to a Jazz Bass neck, it is still a helluva lot better, and much more playable than many other basses I have tried. The only thing I am going to change is the strings. I think that this particular bass is just made for a nice set of flat wound strings!
I will definitely be purchasing more Harley Benton products!
Excellent post😎
I bought one as my first ‘real’ bass. I now have 3 Harley Benton basses!!
Time for number four :)
@@HarleyBentonOfficial - Don’t tempt me - But I have my eye on the MM-84(?) whenever it’s back in stock!!!
@Rev Lewis Rees I have the 5 string version. It's a really cool bass! Check my channel to see it in action. 😎
@@lorenzoiacopi9279 - Thanks, just listened to you playing ‘Get Lucky’. Sounded good - well played.
@@revlewisrees9880 Thanks! I hope it was useful.
I've bought this for a friend of mine and its a blast. I have the Squier Affinity PJ and i have to say that the PB-50 is better and 2 times cheaper.
Thanks, glad you dig it so much ;)
I feel the same way. My Squire PJ has very cheap pots, the frets nedded a lot of attention, and the bass just overall seems to be a little cheaper!
Amazing bass, one of my favorite to play and enjoy. Lots of love to that Roswell pickup. Well done HB, more of them!
Thanks Camillo :)
Classic beauty never sounds old
Word!
I bought one to come back to study bass after 20 years and I love it. I bought an Harley Benton fretless too 😁
I'm falling in love with this Bass! I need one! :)
On the HB and Thomann sites, and on all YT-videos about this bass, the sunburst has a very - very! - distinct red hue in it, like on my JB-40FL.
I absolutely love my Harley Benton fretless jazz, it looks, feels and sounds amazing.
But the two-tone sunburst in this video suits the PB-50 so much better than the 3-tone!
If you bring this colourway back, I can see a second Harley Benton in my near future.
Ditch the pick guard, shave the pointy bits off the headstock and you've got yourself a beautiful Sting bass on a budget!
I love mine. I'm really starting to appreciate the softer bodies like Basswood and Poplar. They're very resonant. The Roswell pickup is outstanding and really nails the growl and harmonic content. I was immediately impressed with how much clarity and cut I get when sitting in the mix.
Poplar is worst wood for bass and guitar bodys

I started with one, have another one, the next is a HB too!!!
Nice to have!
Sounds like a dream too. Wow.
I have the Fiesta Red model, I put the bridge and pickup covers on and it's now a very sharp looking bass
Oh sounds nice!!!
Where did you buy the pick up cover? and is it difficult to set on the bass?
@@matthieuvanheule5699 I picked it up on Amazon, a couple of screws and your all set
Thanks HB for this great instrument!
Lovely composition at the beginning, sounds awesome, nice looking piece too...🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Thanks Nikk! Always nice to read something like that :)
I bought one 4 years ago with the idea to change after I took confidence with bass (I had played just guitar for 25 years). It is still my only bass and I don't feel the need to upgrade.
Wow Stefano, thanks so much :)
Such an underated bass. Great stuff and great price, in case of robbery or plain old clumsyness.
Man, this bass just kicks ass
Well, u nailed it with this one for sure...
Thanks ;) 🙏
I’m a guitar player who is looking to have a bass for emergency situations where there isn’t a bassist. I’m looking at this exact model. I already own 3 HB guitars and they are all amazing quality.
Thanks Eric, check it out! It's simple to use and gets the job done!
It HAS THE sound! \m/
Yeah, sometimes less is more :)
@@HarleyBentonOfficial Indeed!
I have the red one. Very easy to play, steal for the price!
My left hand PB-50 isn't flawless, but the sound of that pickup... Wow!
Surprisingly great for hard rock as well (but then; Ozzy's No More Tears was played on an early 50's p-bass, and that's one of the heaviest bass sounds ever!)
Which flaws did your bass came with? I'm a lefty too and I was thinking of buying this bass
@@MrJoeAkuma The potentiometers were "right handed" but wired as left handed, which means the taper is wrong and they are working like on/off switches.
This is a very common problem with cheap, lefty instrument.
It can be solved by re-wiring the pots like on a right handed instrument, or replacing them by proper, left handed pots.
A bit worse is that the pickup on my bass is mounted a bit too much to the left, making it very difficult to make the strings align properly over the pickup. This cannot be fixed without cutting in the wood to make the PU-cavity bigger.
Finally it also had a lot of sharp fret ends. This is an easy fix though.
@ModlerX Thank you for your answer!!
Sounds good!! I have a fender jazz bass from HB and i love it!
Thanks Josey!
Nice bass and playing
Thanks!
Amazing
Glad you dig it :)
@@HarleyBentonOfficial i am planning to buy new Bass. Maybe, I will go for this. 😁 I have been using Harley Benton instruments for long time already and I like it very much. 🥰
Hey dude good Video!! Thanks!!!
Thanks, cheers!
If you are thinking about buying one of these basses then I am afraid you are wasting your time. It would be better spent playing the thing. I dont have one my friend does and it amazing bass. Even if you have to do some simple set up on it. There are soo many vidoes nowadays on You Tube thats its so easy to learn. I got a Harley Benton jb 75 in sunburst and every time I play it I still cant believe how good it is !
All you need is some rest new flats and it’s complete.
Theres a Band in Berlin that the Bassist plays exactly that model, ITS Very versatile
Wich band is it. ?

Is the line-6 20-watts flfl speaker - last design - a proper target to that instrument?
Just thinking in the Harley Benton ennhanced mb-5 eb or something.
All advices would be welcome!
If this came in Surf Green with a white scratch plate.............OMG!
Is this a good beginner's bass or do you recommend another HB model to start? I really like the looks of the PB-50-Sb.
This is a nice introductuion to this bass, Henning, but I guess that a little bit more of a 50's style would have helped. Definitely a bass to go for.
Is this bass heavy, medium or light? Is it heavier than a Fender which is about 9lbs?
Does it comes with flatwound or roundwound strings?
Awesome looking bass but the headstock is too modern lookin tbh
Help me out guys!!
Do you think that its possible to install a p bass pickups in this bass?
What strings does it come with?
already sold out??
Why can’t it have a pickguard with like original shape? Why it’s so sharp like on strat?
@göran grenner the problem is, that I noticed later, that the body shape is not like on an original P-Bass. The top part, where the cuts located, is a strat-like, so the original 50s pickguard wouldn’t fit and will be too wide
@göran grenner and of course, I can spend 350€ and buy a squier, but there’s still a mystery for me, why couldn’t HB copy the body properly, like they did with other JB- and PB-impressed guitars🤔
I guess it must be a little different from the original design because Fender licensed the original shape.
wWEIGHT?
Why have you guys deleted my comments? No worries, I'll go ahead and unsubscribe at once. Great guitars, shame about the customer service!
a flatwound will sound more ...........cool
For a split second, I thought he said "the PV-50 bass". Could be time to change the batteries in the hearing aid. 🦻😸
continuo a não gostar destes PB... é vintage, ok, mas parece um brinquedo. (mas quando bem tocado, é um brinquedo bem cool! )
I bought the J bass 75 from HB and it was the heaviest guitar I ever had. I threw it away. Budget guitars or not, don't make it so heavy.
