Everyone's dogging on my man Bill here for being sub par, but the man isn't a pro sax player, he's a politician. Idk I find this impressive seeing as literally no one else in office has had a musical "shtick" like this, which I feel makes him unique.

Years ago, my dad was in Russia for some diplomatic meetings, and while he was there, he picked up two sets of nesting dolls. One set was all the premiers of the USSR (with Lenin as the littlest one). The other? All the principal players in the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. The smallest doll in that set? Bill's saxophone.
They never expect a musical instrument to be the mastermind. And they are always proven to be fools.

This is honestly pretty solid. Obviously, this isn't professional level and he's definitely overusing those trills/tremolos (LOL), but he really does have the feel and the time down. I give it a solid B+

I remember watching an interview with Levon Helm, drummer from the band. He grew up in Little Rock and remembered Bill Clinton as (I'm paraphrasing) "that ok sax player from around town." That's pretty much what he sounds like here.

For every job in the Army there is “AIT” (Advanced Individual Training) which is basically job training after you finish basic training. The army school of music is where you go if you’re a musician. I just graduated last month

He picked up a sax and played with my high school jazz band circa 2006 when he was in my town for a speech he was giving, it was awesome. My friend still has her sax that he signed for her.

You can tell he has an actual ear for jazz, hittin some of those color notes and going for some crowd pleaser effects. And his sound overall isn't so bad!! Way better than anyone in my high school could do, I woulda been floored if any of them could do anything close to this.

I was probably 8 or 9 when I learned that Bill Clinton could play saxophone. I saw a clip of him playing, and thought it was so legit and really cool. I thought he was like a real jazz musician. It was pretty funny coming back to clips of him playing as an adult and realizing that he's pretty mediocre.

I have the opposite memory. I remember this as way worse than it really was. And although it's not exactly the best solo in the world, and probably not even real improv, it's still pretty solid.
Ha, just thought the same thing. Back then I though he was amazing, now all I can hear is his flanky intonation and cliché licks. Still sounds good though
And having it transcribed out makes it seem even less impressive compared with some of the insane transcriptions I see on here

Like I said, I had this idea in my brain for years that he was as good as a real professional jazz musician, so I think you can see why when I came back years later, with several years of jazz saxophone study under my belt, my opinion changed a bit.
