I have been washing my pellets in Blue Dawn then put them in the oven to dry in the "keep warm" setting for about 20 minutes then spray coat them with the 2 cycle oil. Once they cool down. I take them and sort them by weight. Then store them by weight. I get about three different weights. Keep them separate cans you get a very consistent shooting day. I normally use the heavier pile for hunting. Just my little humble $0.02 worth info.
My theory on why they group better is this; The lubrication allows the rifling of the barrel to work more efficiently and freely. Causing the pellet to rotate or spin, therefore gyrating more revolutions and more velocity, and being less effected by wind resistance, causing less wabble. Like throwing a good spiraling football.
A valid test requires a single variable. It might be worthwhile to compare JSB pellets from one tin, some washed and some left with factory lube. Likewise, compare the un-lubed Crossman's to some that you oil. This wont tell you who makes a "better" pellet but it will tell you the real effect of lubrication.
Thank you. I will certainly try the synthetic 2-stroke engine oil. To date, I've been using FP-10, which is more expensive. All I do is put an open-cell foam liner in the tin, lube it and put the pellets back in. Simple movement from carrying the tin around and reaching in and pulling pellets out does the lubing. No need to bother rolling them around. Additionally, when I first got my Air Force Airguns Talon in .22cal.,(12 years ago) I did extensive testing on as many pellets I could find. The Crosman Premier (domed) and the Beeman Kodiak were the best shooters. The Premier beat the Kodiak by a bit at 25yds and the positions reversed at 40yds. Both were considerably better than anything else. Seems like most guns shoot Premiers at least well, many get excellent accuracy with them.

Once lubed, is sorting by head size and weight less critical for improved accuracy? I ask because anecdotally JSB pellets seem to shoot more uniformly regardless, likely because they are lubed, and lubing seems to be more practical and less time consuming for small game hunting and plinking to zero scopes.
Antimony in the lead of the projectile will not only harden the projectile but also reduce friction in the barrel and reduce leading and possibly increase velocity.
Does oiling the pellets diesel them slightly, which can be inconsistent if not perfectly oiling them consistently? Or is that negating the lead smearing in the barrel which may have a much greater effect? I think personally the reason you're getting better groups out of it is because with a little bit of lube on the pellet your getting a better seal with them
Could be possible, I'll have to check in the chrono to see I didn't get a chance to do that yet...but I mostly just wanted to keep the barrel from leading up from the pellet smear and my bore a mirror finish
14.3 pointed Chrono results@12" from shroud 840fps avg 10fps spread 3.78 std Dev....dome are at 860fps unlubed...think lube helps the pellet from breaking down in the barrel (smearing)/ engaging rifling better
I have always found Crosman Premier/Webley Accupell to be great pellets and have suited every gun I have owned especially the Weihrauch HW97k and the HW 100 , I use Napier lube but will give the 2 stroke a go , be a lot cheaper....
I have a Grant let 2 and it shoot really well. But the trigger is horrible. What did you do to lb your trigger to get it where you could shoot smoothly allowing for smaller groups. With mine I usually get 3 shots in one hole and a couple of flyers with every group. Back when I was shooting game short range bench rest there were several that were tying a dry lubricant. Molybdenum Sulfide. But I'm going to try some Redline full synthetic racing oil since I have several gallons of it on hand. I found 6 tins of these in HD yesterday for $ 6.48 ea.. so I bought them all.
Hey James, an old reloading trick I have read was Pledge furniture polish for a case lube. Wondering how this would work for lubing pellets? Have you tried this option? Thanks John
Thank you for the video. Recently got myself a pellet gun and after looking around I believe I'm going to run about 500 pellet through it as comes from factory. Get some fine micro-rifleing acquired. Then I'm going it clean it, no wire or abrasives. Get it spotless and run about 100 lubes with graphite. Looking around I've found that should fill in all micro rifling with graphite and provide a deep lube better than just a wet lube. Likely just lightly dust my pellets with graphite after that and run some cotton rounds through it when I use it to stop any build up.
Man you save us a ton of testing that most just won't do or would never figure out. Ignore nay sayers, there jealous cause they can't hit there butt with a Bass fiddle. Another exellent video. Crosman a number of years ago were the Top pellet to use after they where the main pellet for Winning World championships a number of times they are a excellent accurate long range pellet out of most rifles a Competition Winner 🥇💯👌👍
That's the thing I've been finding out about the Crosman H.P.'so is that I always have "Fliers" whether straight from the tin or washed and lubed. In my Avenger in .22 the piranha'so or the worst at about 3" followed by the pointed Crosman at about 1-1/2 to 2" The Crosman H.P.'so shot the best then the domed next. The Crosman H.P."so shoot well with most groups can be covered by a dime. But because of the "flier" issue they won't group as small as the Air Arms of JSB'some do. But for them being about 1/3 the cost they are great plinking and pest control less than 30 yards.
Great video….. What are you using these days????? I’ve got some Napier pellet lube this week but it’s too dear… 2 stroke synthetic sounds good! How much would you use per 500 pellets? Keep up the good work! 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍👀
Could cause dieseling/ignition due to the flammability of the oil under compression like a diesel engine. Compressed air gets pretty hot. If you care about your break barrel airgun I personally wouldn't do that. It could cause damage to the seals and piston. Besides if it does diesel it will sound like a .22 rim fire shooting a super sonic round.
I have three break barrels Diana 34, Walther terrus, and Crosman diamondback all .22 and seems all prefer the crosman premier pellets than the JSBs and others , Crosman pellets are awesome...
Is that oil safe for the o-rings? Majority of the air rifles iv seen, and all the airguns i own, have an inner-barrel o-ring that the pellet passes through so i cant use anything that will damage that o-ring
Aloha James...I’m new to the hobby...LOVE IT! Sorry if this question seems a bit dumb...Do you lube with the 2cycle oil, then allow the pellets some dry time...if that’s even possible? Thanks in advance...
I don't know what the deal is with all of the so called 'self classed expert' airgunners out there that think Crosman pellets are for plinking on the cheap. Crosman pellets are not junk! They are very well made, if Crosman has one inconsistency in their pellets, it's that you can take a tin of 14.3gr domed or HP or pointed and take from out of each tin and weigh them, they all come out to different weights! I weighed 25 domes one night and the average weight was 15.1gr. SO if Crosman were to step up their quality control and start sorting their pellets, they could have a very real chance in the competing world! But of course, that will drive up the price too. Crosman pellets shoot well out of every gun I own. I was really surprised that they were one of the best pellets out of my new last October Weihrauch HW97KT! Shot fantastic out of it! ANd there are the .22 Destroyers from Crosman! In a hunting situation, they are all you need if you want expansion!. They expand better than most other brands HP designed pellets! Destroyer and Polymag are my 2 for hunting, both perform very well out of every gun I have. But because Crosman uses such a hard cast lead, most don't like them in their guns. I will try this method and see if it improves velocity as well as accuracy not that they aren't already accurate.
Hey Jimmy, just wanted to drop a note thanking you for the videos. A lot of time and effort goes into each and everyone of them. I learn something new in all of them. Thanks again!
I just shot 60 Shots at 60 targets 14.3 Premier H P that were lubed first 4 magzines ( Carm 14 ) shot for me done pretty good filled the gun Avenger.22 every thing went south I have not a clue what happend everything was the same except Next day Temp and Hum. changed any idea what I did wrong I took photos
Would be interesting to try this, I use GAMO Pro Magnum pellets (cal 4,5 0,49g/cal .177 7,56gr) and they come dry. How about using oil for locks or sewing-machines for lubing the pellets..would this work?
i lube my pellets lightly with silicone oil ! people dont realize that a buildup of lube in the barrel is the same as an obstruction eventually ! you know i gonna try your lube ,great idea !
Not really 100% sure but wouldn't hurt anything... I know lead bullets are lubed in their grooves for reloads and such... might be worth trying...it will slow fps down from what I found by a little
@@ALLABOUTAIRGUNS slowing down a little is better than missing!...honestly i cant imagine anyone saying crosman pellets arent as capable as any other brand...perhaps in a controlled competition...but in the real, walk around the woods and shoot things world i doubt that a feral pigeon or a squirrel would know the difference.

Crosman lead and JSB are different alloys. You need to clean barrel between sessions. I use lube 1 chain lube because it is no caustic to orings. Crosman is made in USA and will be easier to obtain as JSB dries up.
I've heard of some people saying that like the two cycle motor oil will trap dirt more than a dry oil spray. Im just trying to decide what I really want then getting antsy so I might just pick one considering that every person I've talked to has a different opinion on the matter. Lol.
cut a piece of foam, about a size of half thumb. Put some oil on it.Then put it in your pellet box. Shake shake shake. All pellets are thin covered with oil. Save time.
Very nice review man. Companies just hype up their products for sales. Over the years I've found that generic made products can be made with better quality or work better than top brand names! But also I'd like to note that keeping your barrel bore clean and washing your projectiles in a mild buttery natural oil liquid soap goes a long way! Never use a wire brush in your air rifle bore! It scratches and wears the rifleing! The air gun companies make them a little softer than a firearm because they aren't being put under pressure as much as a firearm.German steel barrel or Japanese is tougher! Be careful.Ed the professional backyard sniper man😂✌
I have a tin of both... But the JSB are the 18.9.. Now given.. I haven't sited in with the JSB,but i did with the crosman 14.3gr in my Gamo swarm whisper,no lube, and it's accurate.. Sited in to 25yrd so im good to 50yrds without much hold on it.keeping a nickel size group,. I've been happy with them..And i can just get them at "the big box store" without having to order them from my favorite online retailer.. Now, in my Hatsan gladius long .25... Nothing but JSB will do.. My belief is once you've sited with a certain brand and weight,(and its settled or broke in)that's the only thing you should shoot from it.. Really,i love the Hatsan for target shooting, but for a El cheapo break barrel,i will grab the swarm, a tin of crosman 14.3 ,head off into the woods for squirrel and you may or may not see me til Sunday..lol
I no longer find them at the Big Box Store locally.Every now & then they might have a few of some brands in .177 but never any .22 any longer.I have found them online only.I would share where I find them at Regular prices but the ammo bandits will buy all of the stock & Gouge them on Fleabay no doubt.
using crossman hollow pt 7.9 gr with my homemade case lube and at 40 yds 10 shots 2 outside a dime. ruger blackhawk with hammers 3x9x32ao . out of 8 different pellets the crossman prevailed , even in ballistic gel.. so spend that money if you want , $5.49 a tin
Crossman premier pellets grouped best in my .22 BSA scorpion at 30m . They where competing against H&N FTT, JSB , RWS super dome and the crossman beat all of them the only pellet i found that gave crossman a run for its money was H&N FTT. All depends really on the barrel as in my budget SMK QB 78d a cheap pellet called SMK flat black groups best in that at 10m and out preforms the more premium pellets. Crossmam premier goes for around £12 in the UK so there not cheap over hear. The crossman premier domed where not lube either.
Jsb are lubed because of manufacturing reasons, in the mold, not for shooting accuracy. They actually wash the pellets at the factory to get rid of most of the lube.
I have the Sig as well and have tried just about every pellet. My best groups are with H&N barracudas, but the difference between them and Crosman domed is negligible. Since one is readily available at any Walmart, and costs less than half the price of the other, guess which one I use.
Hey James, A great video as always. I have a request. Could you please do a contrast and comparison between the different pellet types of crosman premiers? There are hollow points, pointed, domed, destroyers, and pirhanas. Which performs the best in terms of accuracy, penetration, expansion? What is your recommendation for hunting? Thanks again. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.
I don't see what the complaints about Crossman are about because I've never had a rabbit walk off. All drt with head and chest shots at Ranges between 15-40 yards
Nice! Thanks for the info! Was a very interesting video. Gotta keep this in mind. Do not own any PCPs yet - but maybe someday. .. Have though shot Match, Domed and Destroyer Crosman pellets with my break-barrel rifle and CO2 replica pistols. Not a bad thing to say about Crosman pellets. The Crosman Match pellets gave me 2 absolute bullseye hole-in-ones with my Sig Sauer M17 ASP replica pellet pistol (6metres.standing without rest) - and with a blowback replica pellet pistol you rarely see that.. Yeah.. I am more of a Co2 replica pistol enthusiast, than a match shooter or a hunter. Would like an UX Gauntlet .22 - but I have not seen of those for sale on the European market. Now waiting to see if the Sig Sauer Virtus .22 PCP (soon out on the US market I suppose) will reach my retailers..
About 20 years crossman Premier was wing all compilation s in UK they came in card board box's and people would look for a sertin die-cast then jsb took over
This video may be 2 years old but you just taught me something with your permission I would like to save your link to my new Facebook page Air Gunning so that I can share your knowledge. Thank you for another great informative video
You know JSB insists that they don't intentionally lube their pellets. That they make some attempt to clean them after manufacturing but what is on their pellets comes from the machining and pressing process on the production lines. That said, you gotta do what you gotta do. If it works then there ya go...... I personally shoot Crosman Copper Magnums in my .22 with great results and try to stay away from any lead pellets. Even though I would like to get into some heavier rounds, I prefer not fouling my barrel with lead. My .25 is another story. No copper available that I can find and JSB is my goto. Love the Hades line.
I haven't found a deiseling/combustion effect on my PCP or break barrel as long as you don't spray lube in the Piston chamber of the break barrel... chrono results show about same fps maybe little slower with lube because projectile isn't slipping down the barrel
I've been using liquid KY as a lubricant for years. I may try it on my pellets too.

Dude you are Coco Jumbo…
That's what I've been doing for almost a year.
My theory on why they group better is this;
The lubrication allows the rifling of the barrel to work more efficiently and freely.
Causing the pellet to rotate or spin, therefore gyrating more revolutions and more velocity, and being less effected by wind resistance, causing less wabble. Like throwing a good spiraling football.
I have noticed that crossman have cleaned up the seams and less beady skirts lately! Especially piranhas!

@@ALLABOUTAIRGUNS, James, what's the lubed velocity, for each tested type, for comparison?
I was and lube all my pellets. But the crossman is good pellet always wish the made them in 25 cal and 30
Yes the Crossman pellets are sweet as hell👍
My Walther .22 Terrus loves those two pellets...both are awesome..
Does the oil affect your seals at the breach?
I have always found Crosman Premier/Webley Accupell to be great pellets and have suited every gun I have owned especially the Weihrauch HW97k and the HW 100 , I use Napier lube but will give the 2 stroke a go , be a lot cheaper....
I use AA, JSB, H&N pellets and the crossman premier are good in all my airguns
Thanks John
I have not, definitely be worth looking into
Keep up the good research work ! Screw the know it alls. As long as your findings are repeatable friend.
Appreciate it!
What kind of Groups do you have at 25 Meters ?? With Crosman 14.3 Hollow Point
Man you save us a ton of testing that most just won't do or would never figure out. Ignore nay sayers, there jealous cause they can't hit there butt with a Bass fiddle. Another exellent video. Thanks James. Never stop. Now we can bring some of our other guns out we thought were junk, just needed to try something different. I've got 3 gauntlets two air venturi avenger. I need the 0 rings for the slide bar. But I don't use pay pal. They have messed me and several others around, didn't get our stuff, then got things charged on our card from hackers. Please make it easier to get things from you. Credit card, or money order or something. Anything except pay Pal. Everyone I know have had trouble with pay pal, Tia. God bless.
I’ve got some Napier pellet lube this week but it’s too dear…
2 stroke synthetic sounds good! How much would you use per 500 pellets?
Keep up the good work! 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍👀
The lube you used would it be safe for break barrels springers and gas piston guns?
Could cause dieseling/ignition due to the flammability of the oil under compression like a diesel engine. Compressed air gets pretty hot. If you care about your break barrel airgun I personally wouldn't do that. It could cause damage to the seals and piston. Besides if it does diesel it will sound like a .22 rim fire shooting a super sonic round.
I have three break barrels Diana 34, Walther terrus, and Crosman diamondback all .22 and seems all prefer the crosman premier pellets than the JSBs and others , Crosman pellets are awesome...
Do you wash your pellets first then lubricate? Or do you just oil em up right out of the tin?
Just oil, I don't wash
Is that oil safe for the o-rings? Majority of the air rifles iv seen, and all the airguns i own, have an inner-barrel o-ring that the pellet passes through so i cant use anything that will damage that o-ring
Thats why I use full synthetic, doesnt contain any petroleum product that could damage the seals or orings
Aloha James...I’m new to the hobby...LOVE IT! Sorry if this question seems a bit dumb...Do you lube with the 2cycle oil, then allow the pellets some dry time...if that’s even possible? Thanks in advance...
Ty I drilled out my muzzle silencer that was pinging the side and shotgunning my pellets... Now it's almost hole in hole at 20yrd.
Thats awesome!
nice work there pal, also it would be interesting if you try use some silicon spray to lube the pellets instead the synthetic oil
Does the 2 cycle cause dieseling?
diana stormrider pcp .177 rifle what is the average speed you get in fps or in Joules whatever..
Thanks!
Does that oil damage your o ring
Hey Jimmy, just wanted to drop a note thanking you for the videos. A lot of time and effort goes into each and everyone of them. I learn something new in all of them. Thanks again!
Thank you! Appreciate it
One question. Should I wash and lube pellets that are being shot from a break barrel?
Depends on velocity, usually under 750fps no lube is needed, over 750fps it helps
What works with a gun does not necessarily work with another type.
with my respect
I just shot 60 Shots at 60 targets 14.3 Premier H P that were lubed first 4 magzines ( Carm 14 ) shot for me done pretty good filled the gun Avenger.22 every thing went south I have not a clue what happend everything was the same except Next day Temp and Hum. changed any idea what I did wrong I took photos
Good information, I like and use crosman ,will be trying the lube.
Thanks How'd it work out?
@@ALLABOUTAIRGUNS It worked out great, I just put a couple drops in tin and rolled it around gently until all the shots had some oil.
@@kennethhuff7158 thanks for trying it!
Would be interesting to try this, I use GAMO Pro Magnum pellets (cal 4,5 0,49g/cal .177 7,56gr) and they come dry. How about using oil for locks or sewing-machines for lubing the pellets..would this work?
If those oils are petroleum based, I wouldn’t use them. Look up the oil’s specs first.
Fantastic... Crosman and GAMO ... With Hornady
Hey your videos are amazing
Thanks man!
Thanks for the info.
i lube my pellets lightly with silicone oil ! people dont realize that a buildup of lube in the barrel is the same as an obstruction eventually ! you know i gonna try your lube ,great idea !
Thanks man!
Why do you shot such a heavy pellet verses a much lighter pellet? Wouldn't that effect speed and accuracy?
Thanks for the information will definitely try this
Great video man,i would never in a lifetime think of using 2 stroke oil for a light pellet lube. Do you think it would work on a big bore?
Not really 100% sure but wouldn't hurt anything... I know lead bullets are lubed in their grooves for reloads and such... might be worth trying...it will slow fps down from what I found by a little
@@ALLABOUTAIRGUNS slowing down a little is better than missing!...honestly i cant imagine anyone saying crosman pellets arent as capable as any other brand...perhaps in a controlled competition...but in the real, walk around the woods and shoot things world i doubt that a feral pigeon or a squirrel would know the difference.
@@taurbaby same here! 1 cent vs 5 cent pellets ... animals definitely can't tell the difference
In my at44 I shoot jsb 10.34 or piranha 10.5 s. If I lube bought I get the same accuracy if I don’t lube the jsb they open up a little.
James thanks for this info...I have some silicone spray will try this on the tin of Crossmsn's I have...did not know JSB's were lubed...thanks again for the info.
Right on!
I have a brand new tin of the crosman 14.3s i havent opened yet and i have a tin of the jsb 15.89s ..will be doing this 2mrw and let you know the results ..the twist rate of the rifling in my 22cal prowler is 1:18 same as your gauntlet and i just cleaned the heck outta my barrel after shooting today because accuracy was crap .Even the jsb pellets were crazy....so cant wait to see what the results are 2mrw..weather permitted ..👍
Right on! Let me know how it goes

Here in the UK that would be Two Stroke oil?.
Crosman lead and JSB are different alloys. You need to clean barrel between sessions. I use lube 1 chain lube because it is no caustic to orings. Crosman is made in USA and will be easier to obtain as JSB dries up.
Will any brand of 2 cycle oil work .?
i used crossman yesterday in the uk, they seem ok.
a bit hard but my s510 tdr r seemed to like them
Awesome!
Be careful.Ed the professional backyard sniper man😂✌
Exactly thanks!
Outstanding information. Thank you.
My friends...you also need to remember....crossman premier air rifle pellets were develope for match competition in it's days...
Nice !
Try pledge furniture cleaner it works i just spray it on the pellets and it works
I use the daisy dirt cheap but i hit where i aimed at. I use the 22 and 177 i shoot them out of a beeman and my 2 gamos
Jsb are lubed because of manufacturing reasons, in the mold, not for shooting accuracy. They actually wash the pellets at the factory to get rid of most of the lube.
Crosman domed outperform JSB in my Sig ASP20 and cost a lot less.
I have the Sig as well and have tried just about every pellet. My best groups are with H&N barracudas, but the difference between them and Crosman domed is negligible. Since one is readily available at any Walmart, and costs less than half the price of the other, guess which one I use.
Hey James,
A great video as always.
Man dont tell everyone dude. The freaking price will sky rocket.
Cards make pretty groups compared to the paper. I shoot cardboard and sticker dots.
Thank you!!
About 20 years crossman Premier was wing all compilation s in UK they came in card board box's and people would look for a sertin die-cast then jsb took over
Yep!
My walther terrus and diana 34 .22 love the crosman hollow points...
Right on!
Premier pellets have one lots of aft championship s in UK in the 2000 in cardboard boxs
I've heard! Thanks
This video may be 2 years old but you just taught me something with your permission I would like to save your link to my new Facebook page Air Gunning so that I can share your knowledge. Thank you for another great informative video
thanks and please do!
Every jsb pellets I've bought have had severe skirt damage
You know JSB insists that they don't intentionally lube their pellets. That they make some attempt to clean them after manufacturing but what is on their pellets comes from the machining and pressing process on the production lines.
That said, you gotta do what you gotta do. If it works then there ya go......
I personally shoot Crosman Copper Magnums in my .22 with great results and try to stay away from any lead pellets. Even though I would like to get into some heavier rounds, I prefer not fouling my barrel with lead.
My .25 is another story. No copper available that I can find and JSB is my goto. Love the Hades line.
Good video jimmy
Thank you Tim!
Do you think there is also a dieselling effect with the oil on the pellets? Did you try a chrony test lubed and not lubed?
I haven't found a deiseling/combustion effect on my PCP or break barrel as long as you don't spray lube in the Piston chamber of the break barrel... chrono results show about same fps maybe little slower with lube because projectile isn't slipping down the barrel
Good pellets!.
