I can see the "cheap" look too, but I think that's due to the cartoon accuracy rather than anything else.

Definitely do a VS. but I'd recommend borrowing a matte finish Transistor for a more direct comparison. I can lend my Transistor if 1 of your friends doesn't have 1.
Yeah, I would hate for Transistor to get free points just because they are comparing Circus Peanuts to Candy Apples on the deco/presence categories.

A little gloss coat on the red would have done this bot wonders.
That matte finish is very nice, and how I wish Magic Square went about painting their figures (the nylon would look wouldn't look very cheap if it wasn't translucent). The face is a bit odd to me, but that may just be me.
I don't mind the paint on the jets.. honestly reminds me of the feel of CARC paint from when I served in the military.. it makes more sense for them to have that flat color vs high gloss. This is Dukk a great looking figure though

The paint on this reminds me of iGear Cogz (Gears). It’s like a pastel color and I dislike it. I ordered this not because I’m unhappy with the KFC, but because I’m a fool.
I think that matte aesthetic is really what is making the whole thing look cheap. But I kinda dig that they are carving their own pocket in the MP field. DS is remarkably unique in their approach so I'm excited for what's next. Maybe super toon Insecticons?
Matte paint is fine as well, its just it makes what's supposed to be metal specifically look cheap. Doesn't really work with robots completely
I have watched several reviews, and at first agreed with the "DULL" look to him. However, I did order him, he has arrived and my in hand review and comparison has changed my opinion of "DULL".
He looks and feels AWESOME! and as they say, if you like it you win. I also happen to have 2 versions of KFCs Transistor, the Orange/Red and the Ruby Metallic Red finish, both are good MP scaled 'bots, even if some of their joints are a little loosey goosey making some poses difficult if not impossible. The DS Recording Alliance is a few steps above in heft and Quality.
One thing I notice across all fandoms, and critics, is that NO ONE is ever truly "Happy" with their purchase. They would change something. In DS RA case, the "DULL" is what most complain about, and as I said, agreed, UNTIL I got him in hand and my opinion did an about face. I changed my tune if you will.
He's an Excellent addition to the ever growing collection and fits in very well with MP Soundwave and even better if you have Robot Paradise's Acoustic Wave, which I do.
Will FTs be good? sure he will. Will it be better? Debatable, but definitely more expensive than DS. Should DS make a Semi Gloss Painted one? I would before FTs comes out, just to take more of the market share while responding to Fans and Critics opinions.
However, I like mine just the way it is, which means I WIN! which also means, Knowing is Half the Battle.
If you are sitting on the Fence, take a chance on him, you will not be disappointed, especially if you already have Transistor. DS is 100% an upgrade.
While the "DULL" paint job, makes him look cheap on film and in pics, once in hand, he assuredly does not look it, nor does he feel it.
If you got him, tell me what you think now that he's in your hands.

I have the matt finish KFC and I am giving this guy a chance to hopefully replace Transistor. The domestic retailer that I use for 95% of my Transformers usually, (90% of the time), gets figures in later than everyone else, but for some reason 🤔 they usually, (80% of the time), have less QC issues. I'm betting that I have less paint rub and less joint issues. So I'm 🤞that my luck holds out.
I've been saying for awhile now that DS is coming...I truly feel that the more we support them the better they're going to get...these bigger bots they do in the G1 sculpt are really spot on imo & they're carving out a "look" that's becoming recognizable as their own...
All DS needs to do is issue a Rodimus Prime to plant their flag. I have a feeling they will be the one to do it.
@@michaeldemontis1287 I hear u...I think Rodimus is hard because he doesn't really have an alt mode without the trailer unless they give him a mode similar the the Kingdom release...bot mode would probably be awesome...

@@martinhoffmann9034 keep my fingers 🤞 that they do the Coneheads because their Seekers were an original mold...it would be nice if they could tweak the mold to get the Coneheads or maybe even Ironhide & Ratchet...I believe if they stay with the bigger bots they could become a major 3rd party player...
@@ryantheregularravensfan8151 If I were DS, I wouldn't rush the coneheads out until TT got theirs out, simply because that's how DS nailed the head sculpt on the F15 seekers.
Do g1 tapes fit in the chest
You're right, it does look cheap but I would argue that's because of Blaster himself as a character design. The character looks cheap. He looks cheap in the cartoon, he looks cheap in the comic. The KFC Transistor looked cheap but when it was rereleased in that dark red metallic paint, it really made the whole figure pop and I think that's what this DS version needs.
Dont have mine in hand yet, but if the paint is like the Seekers, I am fine with it not looking premium to you. I would like a more durable paint, although if we are going for the toon look, flat/matte paint is the way to go.
I was kicking myself after I paid this off and it was on the way. Like Bobby said, "It looks cheap," and it did. I feel exactly the opposite now that I have it in hand. For me, it presents better in person than it does in pictures.
I find that to often be true with a lot of figures, be they Transformers, Marvel Legends, Star Wars, etc...
I had that same feeling on their seekers. Looked cheap, but all the talk activated my FOMO and I ordered. In hand they look and feel far better than they appear in promotional images.

BSF sometimes misses articulation because he's worried about breaking a figure. If the joints are tight he stops short.

Reading the comments… I’m surprised at peoples negative feelings about him. Besides the paint, I thought for sure this would be a well liked figure.

For me, their stuff just looks like it's obvious how they can be so much cheaper than FansToys and Takara. Not that they're bad, but to me it feels like something is missing.

@@alphatrion100 I know that is what people are saying, and maybe they know something I dont, but when I hope DS and TE products together, they do not look/feel like they are coming from the same place. At all. Different paint, different plastics, even different design notes that they hit.

I actually do kinda like the matte paint that they use. However it doesn't look right in my collection next to mostly Fanstoys and older Takara molds. I'll be waiting for the FT release. Good looking figure though.
Nice review! Seems like the folks at Deformation Space are constantly making strides and improving with each release. I actually like the styling of this one, so I’ll probably get it over the upcoming Fans Toys release.
I understand exactly what you mean about the paint, but I will say the paint looks better under your lights than I feel like it has in most images I've seen online.
The arms will go straight up, there is more ab crunch, and if you drop the hip down a little more, the leg goes back farther. I feel KFC matches MP13 better, and DS goes well with Acoustic Wave.

Yeah all these bots need to have a metallic sheen, like in the cartoon because they are supposed to be made of metal. Blaster didn’t have to have a deep red like ft preceptor. But at least a gloss coat or something to look metal. I forgave ds on the seekers cause they look good and the real world jets seem to have a flatter paint job. All in all, got ds blaster, keeping transistor (metallic red) and wish I had the skill to paint ds better.
Idk what cartoon you're referring to because they didn't have a metallic sheen in the og g1 cartoon and that horrid animation

Another panel former... The only reason I like transistor is because he's "Shiney", that being said it would take a bit to replace him... one of the top things is ... not a panel former.

What's shakin' other than this fortress? Great review. Of Course Robert D bought it. Love the Days without breakage sign..glad you can joke about it. You can put a damage meter like in fighting games when you have a tough transformation or easy. lol. That's a whole avenue you can explore and have fun with...lol. I like the matte finish, but I understand why you said it looks cheap. It's nice to know that this company who just kind of showed up evolved with their transformation from the seeker nightmare steps to this enjoyable one. I found it clever how they handled the back covers using the forarms of the figure and the way they made Ramhorn convert as well. I said YIKES when I saw you messing with the ears on him. I thought those are going to pop off or snap off very easily. In Alt mode, maybe it's just me, but the tape deck part seems too small, almost cartoonish...oh wait yeah that's right. I think a versus is in order as a lot of people are probably wanting to know if they should replace their KFC one with this, or keep it , or wait for the FansToys. Since this one is first to market, I am wondering if this will make a dent in FT sales for thiers? I think the figure looks really good. I'm surprised you didn't bring up the price or the cost as that was a significant portion of why people bought their seeker over the Takara version as it was like 1/2 the price. I'm so looking forward to the MMC Autobot tapes as well. I feel the Autobot tapes are much harder to get right and look good in MP form than the Decepticon tapes. Look forward to that Versus....if you can find a Red non-metallic KFC Transistor that might be a better comparison than the metallic one.

Honestly I have no problem with the deco.. my only problem is just ramhorn. I don’t like him at all and feel he could’ve been done better. I just hope mmc gives him the same treatment they did for soundwave
Question 🙋♂️. Do you think it’s possible to take this right out of the box then take it apart to clear coat? Would or could that make it better?
I can't tell 100% because I don't have this in hand, but usually you can't get to all the screws on these.

The deco I expected to be an issue, I have and love their seekers, but there is so little surface detail here that the matt, chalky finish looks bad to me.
I couldn't articulate how this thing made me feel looking at it. But Bobby nailed it. It looks cheap. You can't tell it is painted at all in pics. I want paint that can been seen in all mediums and look premium. I am sure it is a great figure. But that is why I held off buying it and replacing my Red Metallic Transistor.
This is what I've been saying since we saw a first video! Hyper toon accuracy is gone too far, which makes the figure looks almost like it's 3D printed, or at least look like a Legends scale figure... Blasters color scheme is not helping as flat orange-red/yellow is really making this even more pronounced. To make things more interesting, it looks like this hyper toon accuracy chase will make FT Blaster look identical to DS... At least based on available renders. :D
I don't know... I'm not a fan... I understand KFC Transistor is not a great figure but to me he looks better, thanks to metallic red option (which I'm sure would push DS Blaster to a whole new level!), and I'm not saying this just to make myself feel better with what I already have, since I've ordered Transistor after DS Blaster was announced, and I'm happy with my decision :))))
Some tight joints here and there but otherwise the transformation is enjoyable. I like the chaulky grey paint, but the red needs a little more shine
It does look like an upscaled magic square figure… with articulated hands and fingers. Plus I just think the design of the hips look awful. They just look way to tacky for me. I get that it may be show accurate, but great googa mooga do they look WONKY.
I just received my copy, and I'm happy to say that the paint job works for me. I do tend to like matte paint, so maybe that's why it looks fine to me. I stood it next to Fans Toys Sonic Wave and they look like a pretty good match. Bobby also didn't like the deco on Sonic Wave so I guess that makes sense. Anyway, good review as always, and I'm personally happy with the figure.
I have their seekers and love them, but these guys need to learn not every color works with that cartoony matte finish, and the color that works worst of all is bright red, because the matte finish makes it look washed out and weak.
I still like the metallic XTB better for some reason… but DS version is cool
me too. I prefer a bit more toon inspired, especially on the aesthetically boring bots like blaster. This is a good piece, just not my thing. I wish transistor transformed better especially had a better stereo mode but meh

Not sure if you're looking for ideas for Top 5 but I'd like to see your Top 5 fun transformations.
I've been saying this from day one and I will keep repeating myself until every one acknowledges it, Deformation Space are true competitors in the 3rd party G1 MP TF action figures race, they might actually be the "prophesied ones". In my opinion, with only two releases (four if you count each color rendition of the first mold) they're already at number two, pushing XTB down to number three with FT in the first place.
DS marketing strategy seems strong, they went with the three colors for the Seeker mold from the get go granting them a good economical head start and they did it swiftly with acceptable prices. Soon after, following FT's Soundwave release, they released their Blaster so they're riding the number one company's wave without disrespecting them or the collectors, they're also filing collection gaps while at the same time maintaining a high level of anticipation and interest in their own releases.
By using mat colors DS is offering an alternative that really fits the G1 cartoon look the collectors have been asking for allowing them to directly compete against the big companies while at the same time carving a marketing niche for themselves.
I may be seeing to much into it but from my perspective either Deformation Space are acting on pure instinct and lucking out or they really know what they're doing, be that as it may they're doing it the right way.
It's starting to look like the NA/MS race, it looks like the future of the 3rd party G1 MP TF action figures race is going to be FT/DS and not FT/XTB like everyone thought (myself included).

I agree with everything you said. I have the exact thoughts. I have their Starscream and he's great. I just ordered Blaster. Some official FansToys blaster pics have come out and it legit looks just like this one with metallic paint
For me, this is near perfect, with 4 caveats :
Blaster was a little darker shade of red in the cartoon .
Could have used a few more faces .
Still not a fan of the paint over plastic that this company uses (too easy to scratch) .
It falls into the same trap of wanting to make a toon accurate Blaster, but Blaster in the show had a smaller tape deck door on his chest in robot mode -- one that didn't reach across his whole chest (same as Soundwave) .
But this is a decent enough representation for the price .
Here's hoping that the paint this company uses won't start to flake all over the place in 10-20 years (or less, if direct sunlight is involved) .
Edit: I'm actually quite impressed with Ramhorn , as it folds out from a tape (thin) , to a beefy bulky rhino . Not many (if any) tapes manage to add bulk post transformation .
Usually the robot from is as thin as the tape . So this gets a 12 out of 10 for me .
Plus his little flip-floping rhino ears are adorable . :)
It's nice to see a figure where consideration was taken for how it will look from all angles. It looks good from every side (except maybe the bottom). Really cool blaster though
Hey mate, awesome Review! I'm waiting for the Fans Toys Blaster and his 4 Tapes.
Edit: There is a second button on the front of his chest that moves the tapes forward. Similarly to Soundwaves one on his back, only blasters is one of his front ones.
Also, I agree, he looks cheap.

I like all the extra detail on the KFC one and dislike all the crazy cartoon accuracy nonsense, but I'm not sure if I want to buy Deformation Space's Blaster, nor their Seekers. The KFC Blaster doesn't seem like it holds up, and the other Seeker options are pretty bad (unless you can get the MakeToys ones but those have their issues too), but I also worry about the paint on these things. I certainly have no desire for the FansToys Blaster that looks marginally better than this and will cost exponentially more. Tough choices, honestly.
When I look at this figure, I call back on the point about how there's a fine line between representing the roots of a character's design and straight up copying it bit for bit. I want to love this figure but it just feels too damn retro and too cartoon accurate to the point that it's boring. It looks boring. It looks blah. My eyes would gloss right over this thing if I were ever at a convention.
This is why it's important to stylize figures. Put a little spin on it like some textured detailing or SOMETHING.
I totally agree on the deco criticism, it's what held me from getting one, as much as i hate the Kfc Blaster due to being a really cheap and floppy figure, the metallic paint makes it so much better in my display case than this would, despite being infinitely better in any other regards. I really hope DS will make a better painted version, it would be almost perfect

I understand why Black Mamba would re-brand, but why would Transform Element re-brand?
And is it maybe the same manufacturer but a different design and marketing team? Most 3P companies rent the manufacturing facility/factory.
Totally hear you on the deco "matte" look but for some reason it works for me. I have him standing next to the other new arrival on my table, Chomp, and the difference between paint quality is VERY noticeable, but it just doesn't bother me on Blaster for some reason. Also you really can't argue with the price on this guy, considering Chomp is twice as much. Swapping Transistor out of the MP display and happily replacing him with this guy, until Fanstoys comes along.

I’m with you Bobby, something about the paint that makes it look cheap or of dyed plastic. Had he been painted like MP-44 I’d be all over this.
The tape tolerance is my main criticism handling the figure. I did find that if you cut all the spruce marks on the tape, you can squeeze it in better so that it fits in the chest more easily. However it's still no where near as smooth as MP soundwave for comparison. It's doable but it should have been better designed. I do like both blaster and ramhorn's transformations

Damn those fitler colors on the final pictures made me wish it really looked like that painted wise..it looks good tbh..better than transistor...but ill hold out for FT version. If he takes forever to come out no biggie...blaster wasnt one of my favorites so i can wait. Great video as always!
That was a really great review. I really don't know if i like how it presents or not. I do really like how clean the tapedeck transformers though, zero kibble and gaps, fully panelled (except for the base but i think that can always be forgiven), more than any other Blaster I've seen. I think I'd like more aculptwork for it to be a definite buy for me.
I feel pretty much the same as Skully... i have the KFC and really see no need to replace it with this.... i am waiting on the FT version

I still think KFC’s Blaster is the winner (personally). However, I think I might pick this up simply for the alt mode. Bot mode is a huge dislike, but I love the cartoon accurate alt mode for blaster. So as a little side piece for my office, I think this’ll be perfect
I passed on this guy based on looks. I feel the same way I felt about Unique Toys Allen: he looks like a Tonka Toy.

I don’t have a blaster, but since Fanstoys is coming out with one, I feel like I can wait. Blaster’s cool and all, but is not a “have to have” character at the moment. If MMC can’t see the gaping hole left behind for the tape-bots as independent characters, they are blind. The tapes as accessories are done ok by the big bot manufacturers, but the characters suck. PLEASE MMC, give us the tape-bot characters!!!!

Thank you. It looks cheap. I've been on the fence about this figure because it should check all my boxes. I don't care if it's toon accurate but I do like simple, non cluttered figure designs, but this one just isn't working for me and I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like it until you said that it looks cheap. That is 100% what bothers me about it. But it looks infinitely better than Transistor, and seems to blow it away entirely. I don't know if Fans Toys will nail this figure either but at least paint-wise it can't look any worse that Acoustic Wave, which also looks kinda cheap but not as cheap as this guy looks.
