Keith Richards is alot of things, but first and foremost, he is an unabashed fan of all kinds of music and other musicians, which is exactly what makes him so great. I'm always stunned by his most solid and tasty vocals.
Certainly, Keith is singing this, in memory of Gram Parsons. Only Keith Richards could wheeze through a number like this, yet convey such sweetness to his listeners. I get the feeling, that Richards always wanted to be a bigger Country performer.
Keith Ritchards is the only human being alive, to be capable of singing and harmonizing with Mick, in any key, on any song. Singing here, to one of his pals Gram Parsons great song with the Byrds is priceless. I will bawl like a baby when Keith dies and goes to the great beyond to join Gram. And Bobby Keys and George Harrison. This is gorgeous music!
Keith Richards is so talented this is the first time I heard this him do this song If and when he dies they will have the best rock and roll gathering in heaven
There's so many ridiculously talented people on that stage with Keith Richards for this Gram Parsons tribute. James Burton is a living legend and so is just about everyone up there. They all came together for Gram Parsons and his lovely daughter Polly.
If you take a minute and understand what it means to Keith even attempting to pay homage to a friend it makes so much sense on so many levels. Out of a love of EmmyLou Harris' music I came upon Gram Parsons. In many instances the song mirrors one anothers kinship to new places and pleasures and troubles and harkens back to the safety of good times we have as kids wrapped up inside of 4:22 plz plz listen without so much fire in your veins folks. Its sung out of friendship.
Keith Richards spent almost a year chilling and playing music with Gram Parsons and they were great friends but Gram couldn't keep up his pace and burnt the candle at both ends. Keith Richards was devastated by the death of Gram Parsons and he pays tribute to him by singing this song. Keith speaks so fondly of Gram Parsons you can hear the sincerity whenever he speaks about Gram he really loved and admired Gram and the fact that almost 50 years later Keith still does this song and he still tears up when he talks about Gram. He's a treasure and when Keith goes on it's going to be a huge loss to the world.
according to an account i read, Keith's girlfriend had him ask Graham to leave because his substance use was too intense even for Keith. Don't know if it's true but the collaboration has paid dividends beyond many peoples realization.
I really don't think anybody could ever can forget Gram. He was such a beautiful man...I can't even explain it. There was something deeply spiritual about him and yet daring and even appearing to be devil-may-care. He was a genuine person with a lot to give the world. I think he did do that. :) flingbac
Not to mention, he introduced a very your lady who would always carry the torch long after Gram. ":Return of the Grievious Angel" gave us both Gram at his best, and his new lovely duet Partner---Miss Emmy Lou Harris. And she made it all the way to the Grand Old Opry, and the Country Music Hall of Fame!
This is a beautiful version. Keith does fantastic justice to such a powerful emotive song. A beautiful version to Gram. Keith’s singing is absolutely brilliant in this. Never heard him so serious in any vid and here he packs so much emotions in his voice.
This is a song that is on my Final Departure, a preplanned playlist for my memorial service. Can't wait to get out of this cruel world. I love you KEITH Richards.
Keith Richards put the Rock in Rock N Roll....and G in open G later...actually fathered the open G chording stucture that his domain (while others used it for slide guitar solos) ...spending long hours transferring standard chords to open G chords to get his unique sound. The man is a legend...the man worked hard for where he is at...no one gave Keith Richards a dam thing...he made his own way through decades of big label recording industry non sense and corruption....gave his life and his full attention to making great songs and pied piping us all through the 60's ..the wars..the good times and the bad. The man deserves the respect of the entire world for coming from poverty in a bombed out England in the 40's and 50's to where he is today. There are few people I actually give a damn about...but Keith heads my list of those I care deeply for ...what a trooper and what a musical genius
Hey that's our friend Jim Lauderdale onstage playing acoustic guitar with Keith! Jim was just here in Chattanooga, TN last week having an impromptu jam session with the local folk music school pickers out on the patio of a local pub after playing one of his "Scenic City Roots" shows here.
ArtFRONTconcerts il check him out. Love the way he let keef sing and just backed him up perfectly. Let's face it keef hasn't got the strongest voice but Man U feel every word. Greetings fae scotland 👍
Keith honestly reflects Gram's life in his soulful rendition of Hickory Wind: "I started much younger at most everything All the riches and pleasures, what else could life bring? But now that I'm lonesome. I'll always pretend makes Callin' me home, hickory wind It's hard way to find out that trouble is real In a far away city, with a far away feel But it makes me feel better each time it begins Callin' me home, hickory wind" When you read more about Gram's upbringing; you'll understand the bittersweet meaning of this beautiful song.
I wish Keith had had a solo career. Simply because I'm not a rock n'roll fan but a Keith's fan. Him playing and singing the blues or country is what I like
Hickory Wind is a song written by Gram Parsons that first appeared on the Sweetheart of the Rodeo album by the Byrds Keef gives an incredible and heartfelt performance of a great song written by his good friend Gram Parsons Thanks for posting this RocknRoll Shaman
All I can say is he's got me beat by age and I almost believe he's gonna live forever. At least in our hearts. One of the most versatile people to ever pick up an instrument. Fantastic guy for sure.
"My blessings bless you"......I love ya Keef, blessings from Stafford, Virginia...you remind me of shelling butter beans with my grandfather back when I was a boy, back in the 1950's
offerings of a maestro, legend, master, god, living legend of rock n roll that can not be replaced by day and time I am fortunate to live in the era of the 21st century where the legend lives The one and the only, Mr. rock n roll Keith "fucking the only rock n roll - the Great" Richard... Anyone else still listening to Keith❤❤❤
I still love Keith.
Forever

Would you have wanted your daughter, or sister, to be the wife of Keith Richards?
He and Gram were close friends.
Marvellous insightful comment
It's no wonder. Even as a young boy, he sang in the church choir.

Wow what a precious tribute to Gram ❤
Certainly, Keith is singing this, in memory of Gram Parsons. Only Keith Richards could wheeze through a number like this, yet convey such sweetness to his listeners. I get the feeling, that Richards always wanted to be a bigger Country performer.
Keef GETS a lot more music styles than people give him credit for, this is why he is so bloody good at what he does.

Don't worry, he's NEVER going to die!

William Scaff, I like the ' if ' bit haha! It's about time he was given a Peerage , 'Lord Richards of West Wittering ' ( his British home )
Nobody dies. We just move on.

Keith loved Gram & respected him very much, I think this is a great tribute to him..
Thanks Keith for all of you who help keep the GP flame burning.
There's so many ridiculously talented people on that stage with Keith Richards for this Gram Parsons tribute. James Burton is a living legend and so is just about everyone up there. They all came together for Gram Parsons and his lovely daughter Polly.
and jim lauderdale
The Stones went through a country influenced era .
Honky Tonk Women for instance .
Actually I like Gram’s version a bit better than Mick’s
A heartfelt tribute to his buddy Gram. I’m sure he’ll miss him forever. As a lot of people do.

I could sit stoned for hours at a Keith Richards concert. He needs to make a record w/music like this.
No one will ever top Keith Richard's in playing guitar or writing songs. He is my favorite rocker.
How cool it would have been for Keef and Gram to have sung this together.
+eight inches Bet they found some time to Jam at "the French Chateau", inbetween other "thaaangs" :) Be well mate !
John Knottenbelt
Yeah they probably did. It's too bad they didn't record together back in the day.

One of the truest renditions of that song - the spirit - Keef with the high lonesome sound. Stunning.

Maybe he just wanted gram fans to turn then onto Keith's music, they do that too you know
It’s his fault Gram is no longer with us since he got Gram on drugs and alcohol. He should tear up when talking about Gram.
Keith & Country. The soulful Stone. Beautiful. I love it.

You describe him so well. Once he touches you, it's a life-long relationship, and he can draw you in even from where he is now. The cosmic cowboy.
Keef GETS country music. He understands what it is.
That's what makes him so good at it.
This is a beautiful version. Keith does fantastic justice to such a powerful emotive song. A beautiful version to Gram. Keith’s singing is absolutely brilliant in this. Never heard him so serious in any vid and here he packs so much emotions in his voice.
Keith never ceases to amaze. He is NOT a one trick pony by any means.
As always, Keith goes all in with the singing. The voice is almost gone, but the feeling is all there. Touching stuff!
GRAM! Thanks Keith for this heartfelt tribute.
glad to see the tribute to Gram. Gram was great... one of the best and not to many people even have heard of him
i love music that rambles along at my own pace, like a walk down a country lane
Thank you Keith for it all, bless you Gram. Music, the universal drug.
Man, thank you for sharing this heartfelt tribute to one of tour best friends, Gram.
I loved the legendary guitar sounds by James Burton. He played for Elvis Presley also.
King of the Telecaster. Was in Emmylou Harris Hot Band and Ricky Nelson's Band.

Keith is channeling Gram, don't you all think?
I think at one point Keith and Gram had cross transfussions of their bloods.
yes
@@banjo05738 Totally. I've thought that for a long time.
I mean who would find their way to this page and dislike this splendid performance? The youtube douches?

He looks like he's going to cry. Singing his good friend's song, wondering why he's still here and his friend isn't. RIP Gram. 💔😪
gram was a big reason why the stones dabbled in country rock fusion.
The song is done in 3/4 time like a waltz. Nothing wrong with the timing at all. Well done.
Fanks, Keef. Fantastic music, fantastic love. Gram lives.
This tribute to Gram is so beautiful and heartfelt ...
Love Keith's voice ❤️
Beautiful song from Keith
Keith is the best singer songwriter ever ❤❤❤

Lovely heartfelt version
That song makes me shiver. Feels good!
Keith quit smoking cigarettes! Good on him!
Unreal
Cigarettes quit Keith.
Although he did look good with that cig hanging out of his mouth.
I hear Grams influence on Stones songs like Far Away Eyes, Dead Flowers, and, of course, Wild Horses.
Agree, and those are all my favorite Stones songs.
