In 1972 I was 10 years old and I was just beginning to buy 45's. My father was a very accomplished bluegrass musician and he came up to me and asked if I had heard of a new band named The Eagles. He said they would be a great band because they were a rock band that had a banjo picker (Bernie Leadon). A few years later I started buying Eagles albums and when I got On The Border he told me the story of the song "My Man" which was about the life of Gram Parsons and pointed out the words "hickory wind" in the lyrics. I have heard many versions of Hickory Wind, but I just found this one and I think it is the one that I like best.
Absolutely agree! I played fiddle in a Bluegrass Band and loved playing this song. I believe this to be the best sounding version of ANY (including the original)! Wonderfully done!
The vocal combination of 14 year old AJ Lee and 18 year old Molly Tuttle is one of those rare blends that has huge potential. The big stage is waiting for them.
It looks like your prediction from 11 years ago has come true. Molly and her band, Golden Highway, have gotten terrific recognition and, while AJ hasn't been quite as successful, she's getting recognized where it counts.
Nothing on youtube has affected me as much as this version of the song, it is simply a jewel that i will cherish for the rest of my life........both AJ & Molly are amazing artists that i follow regularly, they just uplifted bluegrass to the 21rst century.......and I hope they will be there for a long time.!
What is incredibly amazing is that I have never seen, heard anyone better than this little girl and the band and they're virtually unknown incredible talent up on that stage AJ is just incredible. 60 years old and I watch this several times a week. AJ did Here in California solo and was incredible, John Denver couldn't have done better. I listen every single day also with the Brothers Comatose great together.
Check out Something Special by AJ Lee and Blue Summit as well as To Mine by AJ Lee and Blue Summit...These are both absolutely gorgeous songs by AJ Lee and her new band Blue Summit....Also note that Sully Tuttle is also in her new band.
TRUE, I am turning 89 this June, can't play like I'd love to, but seeing them fills my heart and chokes me of tears, someone is gonna be there when us Old folks leave this pretty place.
Got some water in my eyes just now. Man! A new favorite for me, AJ Lee, singing Gram Parsons and Emmylou also being one of my top 3 favorite female vocalist of all time. Linda Ronstadt and Eva Cassidy being the other two. This girl is perfect for this kind of music. Simply amazing.
Thank you TikTok for introducing me to this very underrated musical gem. This will forever be me and my little boy’s “gone fishing” song when I was stationed at Fort Knox 2021-2024. So many beautiful memories come to mind whilst listening to this. Please have a wonderful life and when it gets hard may this song bring you comfort.
I can't help myself from returning to listen to this sweet, haunting version over and over. AJ's voice was beginning to deepen here, and I love the quality and timbre of her voice on this song. As usual, Molly Tuttle does great harmony, and the Tuttles are just gifted musicians all around. I love hearing this version of this song.
This is an illustration of the basic unfairness of life. What are the odds that a girl with this uncommon beauty would have a voice which can only be described as perfect? Amazing.
No such thing as talent, only what you're willing to sweat and bleed for. They've each spent hundreds of hours practicing and rehearsing to be this good, it wasn't just a coincidence.
One of the best covers of Hickory Wind I've heard. They have a great feel for it, the lead vocal is particularly good, what a great voice she's got. Thank you.
Banjo and mandolin combo out front blended perfectly. Side note all of the strings perfecting the landscape of course. The grit on this song brings it all the way home with that sound . Ty
whenever I hear this beautiful song I always think of Bernie Leadon's tribute to Gram, the Eagles "My Man". Thank you Gram for your immortal contributions to cosmic american music and to these artists for this lovely version of HW
i love music. No im not American,im English.... i have a fair size music collection of many kinds. That includes the Byrds albums,Gram Parsons, even John Prines first LP. etc etc. This song is great & to hear these young ladies sing this & so well. Unbelievable😎
This is probably the best recorded version of this song ever. It's amazing how soulful AJ's voice sounds at her young age. Just phenomenal playing all around and some kudos needs to go out to the crew that filmed and recorded this.
So how can you be as talented as Graham Parson and write music like this and not just get high from the sheer joy of that? I know he had a tough life and was surrounded by drugs, but as a visual artist that does solitary work I think it would be a blast to be able to pick up an instrument and start jamming with a bunch of people that are excellent too. Use that as an escape and not things that will kill you!
In South Carolina there are many tall pines I remember the oak tree that we used to climb But now when I'm lonesome, I always pretend That I'm getting the feel of hickory wind I started out younger at most everything All the riches and pleasures, what else could life bring? But it makes me feel better each time it begins Callin' me home, hickory wind It's hard way to find out that trouble is real In a far away city, with a far away feel But it makes me feel better each time it begins Callin' me home, hickory wind Keeps callin' me home, hickory wind
It is common for different singers or groups to alter lyrics slightly. Be happy, and go with the flow. This is the best version that I have ever heard!
I play Hickory Wind in every style in every key. This is one of the best versions I have ever heard. I have made a study of this song since 1968. This group (and AJ Lee) is awesome. Your are not suppose to sing this song in glee mode, it is a sad song, lonesome and painful. Well done Tuttles. CA Lawing China Grove, NC
Ok, I listened to Emmy Lou, Gillian, Gram himself, and others do this song and I still believe that this cover is best I've ever heard of this Gram Parsons song!
Gram Parsons is alive and Well as his legacy lives ON Delightful version with feeling... 800 k views got to keep coming back It's the Reverence u have for this masterpiece...
I just love to hear this lil young lady sing so glad she had the chance to sing with the one and only James King who"s gone on home but will forever be remembered she can sing some Bluegrass and plays very good love ya AJ Lee
You don't need to understand personally the full impact of a song's lyrics to be musically moved by it. I loved and played songs as a young'n that from my perspective 30 years later I know I didn't fully understand back then. But those songs moved me then and they still do -- only now they move me differently (and more maturely.) You can tell by the way they play and sing that they are musically moved by these songs.
Wow.....grew up w Bluegrass as my moms people are from the Mo Ozarks.... I am near tears listening....music lyrics and vocals.....and yes memories. Crying shame their next "tour date" was listed at a church in CA.
This young lady singing, baring her soul, and the band backing her up have done justice to arguably Gram’s greatest song. A very beautiful bluegrass waltz. Gram surely would have been proud. My favorite versions of “Hickory Wind” have always been Gram, Emmylou, and The Fallen Angels live with Neil Flange on pedal steel (Neil, I hope I spelled your last name correctly, bud) and then there’s that knockout solo version Emmylou cut on ‘Blue Kentucky Girl’-Wow! Now it appears that The Tuttles and A J Lee have joined that list. Y’all keep it up! We’ll be listening. Sounds to me like the younger generation are finally rediscovering what Country music really is all about, and that gives a lot of us hope for its future.
this shocked me. i started crying. i love gram parson's recordings. never heard anything come close to doing justice-until this little Oracle. kind of surprising, someone as screwed up as GP-and this child see's, understands and express's the beauty. Kudos to this brilliant Adult-Children combo.
God bless you. I fell in love with this song when I heard it first on Sweetheart_of_the_Rodeo. "It's a hard way to find out that trouble is real...In a far away city..." So true!
AJ still sings that well, but she still had it when she was young, too. What a beautiful song, and like others have said, this might be the best rendition I've ever heard
Who else feels better when they hear AJ sing?

I would have to agree.
Absolutely agree.

I believe Molly was only 17
"The big stage is waiting for them." This comment has aged particularly well over 11 years.
unbelievable .

I am in the Marine Corps infantry and I spent a many a day far from home. This music speaks to my heart thank you AJ.

And the genius of Gram Parson lives on. This is beautiful.
The mandolinds duet in the introll & the ending adds to the meaning of the young writer's song lyrics!!
The best thing I heard in a very long time, thank you AJ LEE... Beautiful
Gram Parsons + AJ + the Tuttles = Incredible
Absolutely hauntingly beautiful. I only just discovered it.
AJ is just a kid here and yet produces such a beautiful rendition of this song.
This is an illustration of the basic unfairness of life. What are the odds that a girl with this uncommon beauty would have a voice which can only be described as perfect? Amazing.

Every now and then I have to revisit this performance. It is so good. So, so good.
+Jason Leeds Totally. I think this performance has captured many of us.
One of the best covers of Hickory Wind I've heard. They have a great feel for it, the lead vocal is particularly good, what a great voice she's got. Thank you.
Some voices just naturally go together. So it is here. These voices are perfect together …
Simply beautiful. A.J. Lee and Molly Tuttle harmonize perfectly. A.J. has the prettiest voice ever.
Molly
Her sweet voice brings tears to my eyes.
The absolute best performance of this Gram Parsons/Bob Buchanan song ❤👍

Beautiful ❤️ I heard Gram play his last performance in Joshua Tree the night he joined JesusYeshua. Such a tragic loss
Beautiful song .the harmony is just amazing
... Hickory Wind, a great song ...
Super version of Gram Parsons' classic song. Gram and Emmylou Harris set a very high mark with their duet. It is matched here. Bravo
Gorgeous ! Gram would be pleased !
+bob friedman I completely agree about Gram. I think he would be VERY pleased. These girls have the soul Gram used writing it.
It is common for different singers or groups to alter lyrics slightly. Be happy, and go with the flow. This is the best version that I have ever heard!
This is one of those instances when the right musicians are given the right song in the right time, look at God and say look what we can do...
in the pocket.
Love her voice, Gram would be proud.
Awesome! Authentic music, that is what I was missing for a long time...
AJ has a perfect smooth bluegrass voice. Outstanding mandolin and guitar work as well! Molly is a great flat picker and vocalist.
Like many, i find myself coming back here over the last few years. No doubt gram would give two thumbs up.
Agree with Charles. The best arrangement of this tune ever, Gram would be proud.

Gram would probably agree that this is the finest cover of his beautiful masterpiece .
Wow! She has a beautiful voice and perfect pitch. Love it!
crazy went from in the city eagles, to gram, to a dj who brought up Gram and this song and grand ole oprey to this... music transcends
Wow, incredible, just awesome. What a pleasure to listen to and to watch as is everything that AJ Lee does.(and her backing musicians).
This has been out here for over 6 years and still good, good, good music.
My hat's off to father Tuttle's for putting together something so beautiful that will truly enlighten future generations for years to come.
And I'm guessing, which is always the case, when a father, or mother is involved, they increase their own bank account!!!
I just stumbled across this by accident while looking for a local trucking company....
Love it :-)
Thank God for Tuttles Trucking and Recycling eh 😉
What sweet angel voices. love to hear them singing hickory wind.....
Gram Parson spirit in da house!
Wonderfully done. Miss Tuttle ur hair looks great like that
Ok, I listened to Emmy Lou, Gillian, Gram himself, and others do this song and I still believe that this cover is best I've ever heard of this Gram Parsons song!
Keith Whitley did it justice as well!
Keith Whitley with J.D. Crowe. This one was too.
@@johnjohnson9861 Also a very nice version!
Absolutely beautiful. Wonderful voices and harmony.
Hard to believe they have all only gotten better.

I v always been partial to the byrds, with gram, version, but I keep coming back to this, has been a favorite song for 40 yrs.
Beautiful cover of such a great song.
What a voice!
Awesome job!
What a super rendition of this Gram Parsons song! A voice as clear as a bell.
Two beautiful girls who sing like angels. I believe that'll work.
My Gawd I love this little gal's voice! So natural....And the Tuttles are absolutely wonderful!
AJ is so special. . . . . I am praying for her. She is truly a gem.
The more I listen to this, the more awesome it gets. Wondrous . . .
Doesn't get any better than this. One of the best tunes in the folk idiom, and splendidly performed by A. J. Lee and the Tuttles.
This has become my personal definitive rendition of the song
I Love This Music. Thank You.
This totally does Gram & this awesome song justice!! AMAZING!!!!!!!
What a sweet song. You all made it shine. Thanks you.
This performance is a perfect example of how bluegrass music speaks to a person's soul. Good job people, I love your work !

Yes it has. I just watched Molly on Austin city limits. Wow, what a performer.
I wonder if Jimmy Page has seen her. I saw her a couple times last month. Wow is right.
This is the beauty of youTube. It suggested this video to me, and what a jewel it is! This is another one that I will watch over and over.

D Ebelt Ikr, chills.
AJ and Molly, quite a duo! great picking, great song #awesome
Love this version I have watched this video over and over for years so much talent and AJs voice is amazing and the harmonies.
I've been an AJ Lee fan for a few years - love the way you hit the right mood in this vocal of one of the greatest ballads ever
AJ still sings that well, but she still had it when she was young, too. What a beautiful song, and like others have said, this might be the best rendition I've ever heard
This is a fantastic cover, keep calling me home, we’ll done…
