If you only look at JJ’s massive moments in a dive they’re gonna look bad, but to say you can’t “come to a conclusion” about him after not looking at any of his non controversial moments is disgusting. As well as 2 white men sitting and looking at a black man making stereotypical jokes and saying that he’s wrong for it is gross. JJ is the reason a lot of black context creators started out. Chunks, Jidion, Speed, Kai and so many more have openly said KSI was the reason they wanted to make content, because if he as a black man could do it so could they. As a fan of your other deep dives I’m very disappointed in this. I think the moments were chosen specifically because right now, KSI is an openly disliked figure. They're potentially fairly largely an American and/or audience whose biggest exposures to him are his association and businesses with Logan Paul, and The Thick Of It memes. You're almost predisposed to see everything in a negative light if you have that as your starting point
KSI did an interview with ITV where they asked him about the good times and then also asked him about the bad times so you get to see the (relatively) recent KSI respond to his older mistakes. Same interviewer as the guy who made RDJ leave the interview
It's so easy to look back at some of this and judge hard but at the time it was just different and viewed different by everybody. I also don't feel like the growth of KSI has been potrayed too well here
@ActuallyAnanya it took them quite a lot to do that and also sponsored him where he was already doing things that today would be considered cancelable and controversial
@@ActuallyAnanya I'd beg to differ there, I'd say it was viewed differently by the entirety of youtubes userbase back then. Even if brands didn't see it that way, I feel like the views of the entire userbase of youtube back then was far more different to corporate views of stuff compared to now. Nowadays people are a lot more woke and see a lot more offense in things in online spaces, whereas that was not really a common thing at the time. This is why KSI made the content he did for so long, even though brands would struggle to work with him because of how he acted, he was validated by basically the entirety of the internet, hence why things like the rape face faced basically no backlash at all at the time
tbf to fifa coins sites, for most of them it's a straight forward transaction, you pay the money, they give you the coins. The CSGO Lotto thing was a scandal because it was a slot machine that the youtuber can alter the odds however they want. Comparing two of these is quite ignorance on the subject. UK RUclipsrs "got away" with it because it's much a much tamer situation, at worse they are telling kids to break tos that are barely enforced.
The whole private school thing is not what it seems. He didn’t come from some upper class family who had high paying jobs and easily could afford it. His parents worked their ass of to get him into private school and that’s why they were so strict. If they were just rich and money was nothing to them, they wouldn’t care so much
I think i'm starting to dislike Caanths. He is pretty terrible at giving context in most of these deep dives. You can tell that he has this view of british Private School kids as if every single one is extremely rich, he even mentions JJs parents probably expected him to get into Oxford or Cambridge, which is why they were giving him etiquette training. This is not true at all. Alot of people, probably like JJs family are more just middle to upper middle class (you can even be working class and go to private school depending on the school). It isn't just you go to private school therefore you are expected to go to these top tier universities and become part of the upper echelon of society. Hence why JJ and Deji were taking Etiquette classes, cos their parents come from a middle class background and don't know much about proper Etiquette and are trying to get their children as far as they possibly can go in life. This is pretty common for hardworking first and second generation immigrant families. Not born into money, but through discipline and hardwork try and gain every advantage they can see to better their families future.
@@askechadd2473he gets to personal and for some reason the deep dive is always skewed in a negative exposing way, but people don't like KSI anyway because of...mold chesse and his relation to a crypto scammers and etc why give him good faith critique or coverage if he sucks
@@askechadd2473 This is dangerously close to being a "because he's white" take but this is the classic immigrant story, you should be able to infer that if you're as big of a JJ fan as Caanths says he is. Quite literally every immigrant story you hear from your peers in the US revolves around millions of extracurriculars, or private school and prep school, in order to give your kids what you didn't have. Then again, that leads to awful relationships with your parents (and oftentimes physical abuse), like JJ also experienced.
@@askechadd2473 While I 100% agree that alot of private school kids can be Working and middle class , i dont understand your reason to hate. I dont see your logic at all, non that hate is every justified as Is. As a person who fits under that I dont feel like there was any bias anyway. Feel like you just read it wrong and got angry over nothing
@@MinecraftImplosion Caanths seems to be pretty bad at giving context. This is just one of those situations. Stanzs is now led to believe that JJ is some upper class richboy that fakes as if he was really poor. Hence why Stanz thought it was weird that JJ was wearing particular clothes or a chain despite being an upper class person. When realistically, he didn't fake being poor, he isn't upper class and in terms of JJs upbringing and cultural expression growing up, everything falls pretty in line with being in a middle class first, second or third generation immigrant family. That was all erased because Caanths has some weird bias about private school kids and therefore hearing that JJ went to private school it must mean he is literally the poshest of posh destined for Oxford or Cambridge. It's ignorant, lacking all nuance and just another example of Caanths being bad at giving context. Caanths doesn't seem like he is very in tune with UK culture at all. There are other things about him that are really annoying to me but those are outside the scope of this private school thing. I'll just say that he doesn't feel culturally British at all and it feels like he'd fit in better with californians. Which makes him a really bad presenter of UK internet culture.
This video is KSI and not JJ, you didn’t do JJ justice, do more research on JJ and less on KSI, there’s so much more to JJ than what’s revealed here, which is disappointing. Maybe I’m spoiled by sidemen plus because I get to see JJ before the cameras roll and KSI as soon as the camera is on, that’s when you can tell the difference 🤷🏾♀️
why are they so uncomfortable when ksi made those black jokes, bro ur allowed to laugh or not laugh u dont have to feel uncomfortable or bad when hearing those jokes.
idk about caanths but for stanz its obvious that he just doesnt like it. the jokes weren’t good and propped up racist behavior. even though ksi was young and stupid, it doesn’t change the impact. im a fan of ksi and i have seen the discord videos and it shows the fanbase he and the sidemen have cultivated and influenced.
@@atoagej back then it was definitely funny. ksi blew up largely because of that sort of 'no fucks given, no limits' humour. it hasn't aged well but if it wasn't funny back then he wouldn't be here
holy crap why do you guys act offended about everything to do with him mentioning black people 🤣 the video started off well but it was annoying being offended by the softest of jokes. so weird
It's the worst part about these deep dives. They watch classic youtubers and spend most of the time cringing. I think it was in one of the Joe Weller vids where Caanths gives a trigger warning that the video includes Weller saying 'The R-word'. I swear to god i didn't even know there was an R word. I don't even like using this word but these guys are the actual sterotypical californian soys getting unironically uncomfortable at the mildest of edgy jokes.
how about show all the good things he has done and how much he has helped people and how actually nice jj is instead of trying to make him look bad based on jokes he made 10 years ago when he was still young lol thats crazy.
one story i remember is back when he used to play overwatch, there was someone he used to play with (he didn't know him irl) and jj asked him one day why he hadn't been online. the guy basically said that he was struggling with paying rent and other stuff. jj sorts out everything for him, no questions asked. no publicity, no seeking attention or validation, nothing. just did it out of the good of his heart. we only know this even happened because that guy happened to be a friend of podcaster jaackmate, who brought it up when he had ksi on his 'happy hour' show
I think the stance on the misogyny and terrible stance of JJ's actions during the 'being awkward' stage is a completely different era. He did nothing wrong in the eyes of the people back then, but people's perceptions on that time have changed massively. Not to say that was right at the time. But I don't think its right to dig dirt of the perception of the masses at the time and make it wrong now.
Nah I am not someone is for cancel culture but it was weird at the time too, it is just his fanbase was mainly teenagers at the time so being edgy was given a pass
Ikr, what is now deemed as edgy and dark humor, was a prevalent thing back then. It's weird seeing people judging those kinds of things with modern standards and omitting many context clues of the time. It's not like he boasting around about it nowadays, he has distanced himself from that era and refuse to do that sort of stuff again If that's how people want to perceive stuff like this and to some degree acting like some sort of moral police, I wonder all the kinds of thing these people have done up to this day, that are going to be judged as malicious and negative action by people in the future
Enjoying the deep dives but we really need a Harry W2S one. Bro would be creased. The uncancellable autist is an inspiration tbh. That or Danny Aaron's and Tennesee lol
@OneHuntiBoi the hilarity of it would be quite good honestly. The guy leveled up massively in 2 years. And just so we're clear, all of this stuff is content that doesn't NEED to exist, we just enjoy watching deep dives into drama and trash
KSI his early vids was COD (how he knew Zerkaa) & FIFA gameplay with commentary not just FIFA - Road to D1 was the pop off one also not including the final episode of R2D1 is insane canths you've let me down big time
i don't think he met zerkaa through cod, he met him through fifa when they used to play pro clubs together (how they met ethan too) he knew of zerkaa through cod though
this video is a perfect example of why you actually need to do some research. no mention of beast, no real mention of the sidemen, very little mention of his fifa content, no mention of randolph... this video reads like your mate in the pub after a few pints telling you what he thinks of a random celebrity that you don't know, and just going along with whatever they say
I think you need to do a deep dive to JJ’s music because it’s really interesting seeing him go from Heskey time, Lamborghini to serious music with Randy to then his serious solo albums Dissimulation and All over the place and how much he has improved and got to the place where he gets number 1 album and charts as high as number 2 on the UK charts
Christ guys its not that deep to have to be offended by everything it was funny to his audience at the time, some of it is still nostalgia funny, the grandstanding of 'this is so awkward' bla bla bla really kills this video
Key phrase here is “at the time”. It was acceptable edgy internet humor back then. If you’re a grown adult now with a developed brain, it’s clear to see why those old videos are awkward
I discovered you because of the Steven Tries deep dive and ngl I’ve now binged most of them. As a Brit I love showing my American friends British creators and watching half of it go over their heads just like you😂❤️
So my cousin was one of the editors of Eurogamer during that whole debacle in 2012 and I was actually at the conference, I had staff access as an invitee. The whole thing unfolding was like watching a house burn down from a PR POV.
Something a bit dodgy about two white people being offended by a black person making black jokes. I get you don't wanna offend people but it doesn't really feel sincere
I don't really think they're getting offended, I think they're reflecting on the jokes and how if made today, they'd be very questionable. and stanz makes it very clear he understands it was a different time, that doesn't make it any easier to watch today
@casss8605 sorry but no. Just watch his reactions to the sidemen Diss tracks that have slur where they laugh about it and move on. Here they really need to let the audition know how against it they are but it's not for them to decide if a black person making black jokes is fine or not...
Also they literally laughed at the R face line from harry in that video too and didn't spend 10 minutes to say why it's bad to say that. They are definitely pandering to the cancel culture audience
should've covered the parts he's kept off camera but people have talked about it like him getting someone an apartment or gifting randolph £20k for his wedding etc,
As a wise coked up old man once said, the old KSI will never be topped. Just like how Pewds basically made the whole gaming niche and Smosh made the sketch comedy/irl stuff niche KSI almost single handedly MADE British RUclips. So many UK youtubers who's channels literally got that first boost from KSI being on them regularly and even now the Sidemen continue that tradition with up and coming UK youtubers.
He’s JJ when he's with his real friends like the sidemen and their whole circle and he's being mostly genuine but he's KSI when he's with people like Logan Paul who are generally awful people and bad influences because he's admitted to being easily influenced and having a bit of an addictive personality especially when it comes to things like gambling. Their's always a little KSI present if he's trying to make anyone laugh or be at all entertaining but it's clear to me that he sticks with the sidemen so they can keep him from going 100% KSI full time. He has actual friends that don’t need him anymore to rich and successful to keep him humble and tell him the truth. He's not the smartest guy in the world so he’s very lucky to have a good circle to keep him from getting completely lost in KSI.
I have not watched the entire video yet, but I beg the video from JaackMaate's podcast with JJ is in here. It is an amazing representation of JJ's kindness when it comes to helping others in need.
hi caanths. its insane that people are mad over a youtube video that is overwhelmingly positive and has no allegations or hate pointed at KSI. you do good work. its crazy that they are upset that not every piece of history was covered in a super condensed video thats already 77 minutes long. ive been watching stanz on and off for a hot minute, but ive tuned into every deepdive w caanths. I never expected every single detail to be ironed out and have every minor achievement covered; i always thought this was two bros learning about a youtuber/influencer in a succinct and quick style. GGs caanth. you're a cool dude i think.
the issue is they didn't cover MOST of the history. they completely ignored his fifa content, completely ignored the sidemen, completely ignored anything positive he did and focused purely on some edgy jokes he made
Hey, I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that expecting every detail to be covered in a 77-minute video isn’t realistic. However, I think the frustration some people, including myself, are expressing comes from how KSI was portrayed overall. While the video might not have had any outright allegations or hate, it felt like there was a heavy focus on critiquing his past, particularly when he was 18 and still figuring things out, without equally emphasizing the growth, achievements, and positive impact he’s had since. KSI’s journey is more than just his controversies-he’s someone who’s acknowledged his mistakes and grown into a role model for many. It’s not that I expected them to iron out every detail, but skipping over key parts of his story-like his influence on the RUclips boxing scene, his work ethic, and his contributions to influencer culture-made the video feel incomplete. I love Stanz and Caanths’ work, and I appreciate the effort they put into these deep dives. I just think this one could’ve benefited from a more balanced perspective. At the end of the day, it’s all love, and I hope future deep dives take this feedback into account!
That's just Stans projecting lmao. The same way us Hispanics don't give a fuck if one of us say "oh yeah, I'm a taco muncher yum yum" as a joke, 99% of black people don't care. I hate the word "woke" bc it's loss of meaning, but I feel like Stans definitely doesn't understand what should be offensive so he thinks EVERYTHING is
Literally in the video you heard from a chatter that black people would get mobbed for criticising KSI playing into stereotypes. Probably by people like you tbh.
I think caanths didn’t think to include the fifa stuff because they’ve gone over other British RUclipsrs of the same era, and British RUclips at the time was purely fifa
Fun fact, the "voice of god" trope and the dubbed over questions from the How To videos are all references of nigahiga's How To Be videos. I feel like we need an early RUclips deep dive with nigahiga, Fred, Phillip DeFranco, =3, Smosh, jacksfilms, tomska, and all the other *old* old creators. There's even a niche UK scene with charlieissocoollike, zoella, dan and phil, there's probably more too, I didn't watch any of the UK folks.

@@NoHeros247 Jokes can still be insults. It's called mockery. It isn't clear every time someone makes a joke whether or not it's meant to offend. In fact, many people hide behind saying "it's just a joke" when they intended to offend. To put it bluntly, your experiences don't define other people's experiences. In my experience, I've been called the f slur "jokingly" by many people in a demeaning manor and directly in an aggressive, serious way. The only people who have used it jokingly in an inoffensive manor were other gay people and they were nice enough to stop when asked.
I also don't feel like the growth of KSI has been potrayed too well here
"Everybody" being KSI's audience of edgy teenage boys... meanwhile his sponsors dropped him so clearly they didn't view that content the same way
@ActuallyAnanya it took them quite a lot to do that and also sponsored him where he was already doing things that today would be considered cancelable and controversial

Which makes him a really bad presenter of UK internet culture.

idk about caanths but for stanz its obvious that he just doesnt like it. the jokes weren’t good and propped up racist behavior. even though ksi was young and stupid, it doesn’t change the impact. im a fan of ksi and i have seen the discord videos and it shows the fanbase he and the sidemen have cultivated and influenced.
@@atoagej back then it was definitely funny. ksi blew up largely because of that sort of 'no fucks given, no limits' humour. it hasn't aged well but if it wasn't funny back then he wouldn't be here

It's the worst part about these deep dives. They watch classic youtubers and spend most of the time cringing.
I think it was in one of the Joe Weller vids where Caanths gives a trigger warning that the video includes Weller saying 'The R-word'. I swear to god i didn't even know there was an R word. I don't even like using this word but these guys are the actual sterotypical californian soys getting unironically uncomfortable at the mildest of edgy jokes.

because that isnt good for clicks
one story i remember is back when he used to play overwatch, there was someone he used to play with (he didn't know him irl) and jj asked him one day why he hadn't been online. the guy basically said that he was struggling with paying rent and other stuff. jj sorts out everything for him, no questions asked.
no publicity, no seeking attention or validation, nothing. just did it out of the good of his heart. we only know this even happened because that guy happened to be a friend of podcaster jaackmate, who brought it up when he had ksi on his 'happy hour' show
I think the stance on the misogyny and terrible stance of JJ's actions during the 'being awkward' stage is a completely different era.
It's not like he boasting around about it nowadays, he has distanced himself from that era and refuse to do that sort of stuff again
If that's how people want to perceive stuff like this and to some degree acting like some sort of moral police, I wonder all the kinds of thing these people have done up to this day, that are going to be judged as malicious and negative action by people in the future

3:15 now he has a song with lil wayne
Are you guys gonna do a sidemen dive? feels like there is a lot to cover and has a lot less controversy and very wholesome journey
I have not watched the entire video yet, but I beg the video from JaackMaate's podcast with JJ is in here. It is an amazing representation of JJ's kindness when it comes to helping others in need.

I agree
the issue is they didn't cover MOST of the history. they completely ignored his fifa content, completely ignored the sidemen, completely ignored anything positive he did and focused purely on some edgy jokes he made
Hey, I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that expecting every detail to be covered in a 77-minute video isn’t realistic.
