Fun(?) Venari note: Venari is the only companion that comes with you to the Index (as of last I checked, which was prior to the most recent companion update), thus is a way of having fetch in the Index. This, along with pilfering strangledome, makes Khora great at picking up tons of Index points.
What? My entire ESO build revolves around Death Cubes energy generator mod. You 1000% can have companions in an ESO. Unless there was some unforeseen change in which I am unaware of.
This update allowed me to make a Khora build entirely around Venari as main damaging tool thank to Contagious Bond. Snare apply 5 forced slash procs on top of your modded elements, which is deadly. With Ensnare, Venari can nuke group with ease. And if you bring a Kubrow/Predasite with the Mecha set, you end up with Voruna at home: no need to seek the Mecha mark, Contagious Bond will find it for you. Venari become the fuse for a 30 meters status nuke. I run no subsume on Khora so I can command the whole thing at will. I don't even need Whipclaw and it's augment, it's only here to refresh Pack Leader. In survival, I can reach a comfy 120-140 kpm, and even 150-170 kpm when I try hard on a good map. I really love this new playstyle for Khora. No more Whipclaw spam mayhem. The only problem is with Strangledome, since Contagious Bond don't work on ragdolled enemies. So I only use it for emergencies.
@Leon-eq6ei Based on DE's wording, you don't even have to unequip them. Just having it so your current active weapon is one that can't reload (i.e. melee) makes the buff reroll. The other two non-active weapons can be ones that reload or not.
so that means if you're affinity farming, using a melee only build would make charm more effective combine with naramon affinity spike for even more affinity so maybe a stealth exterminate with melee only could be faster than using AoE nuke weaponsv
@@TheKengineerI'd like to point out that modding claws for heat and then using contagious bond can play out in 2 completely opposite ways: 1. If the first heat proc on enemy was landed by your kavat, then you can make use of heat inherit to put stronger base dmg heat procs from sources like furis incarnon or protea turrets, and it'll still proc contagious bond, if the final kill hit was a heat proc, not direct dmg (I posted a "hound nuke" vid on my channel for reference). 2. But if the first heat proc was landed by any other source than your pet, then heat proc kills by your pet won't proc contagious bond. Just a reminder to always keep heat inherit in mind when modding for heat, cause it credits the kill to the source who casted the first proc (definitely is a result of DEvs trying to refresh its duration when stacked).
Ive been watching your videos for a while. Can't believe i wasn't subbed. EZ fix. Your content is in depth, easily understood, and immensely helpful. Keep up the good work!
Vasca Kavat revive speed is a little insane, brought it to netracells last week and I think it averaged 1,5 seconds from me dying to being revived, half the time I didnt finish the falling on my butt animation even
Thanks for this. I remember posting a lot of Venari dmg testing back in the day, finally finding out that untriggered healing mode was king. Nice they've really been expanded.
You say 'don't build for dying' but honestly I find having a companion who can pick up my frame in the off chance it happens is very useful, especially on missions where death = failure. Can you tell I solo a lot in WF?
Kengi's videos are typically from a 'practically optimal' perspective, and from that perspective modding to not die in the first place is best. If you find yourself regularly dying despite modding to not die, then by all means grab something to pick up your frame, nothing wrong with that.
Personally I think "don't build for dying" is great advice for modding frames ("try spending fewer slots on defense and more on your abilities, which you can use proactively!") but less so when talking about a single mod slot on your companion. If you like having some insurance (and aren't super attached to your Vasca specifically), then know that Vulpaphylas are even better for self-res! The generic Vulpaphyla mod Martyr Symbiosis which them to die* (activating Devolution precepts) in your place and give a short invulnerability window with a small heal. With no cooldown! The only limit is they can't do it while they're already Devolved. So they can save your ass every 30 seconds, 4x as often as Vasca's hidden 120-second cooldown. But here's the kicker: Tek Assault's 60% chance to avoid lethal damage can save them from dying when they sacrifice themselves for you, leaving them ready to do it again a second later. 60% of the time it works every time!
agreed been exclusively taking my vasca to EDA for this reason exactly, obviously not dying is ideal but it's not like EDA gives you the choice to mod for whats best anyways. same reason I always run vazarin for EDA obviously it would be better if teammates didn't down but having an instant revive is nice. definitely feel like the vasca is slept on hard when it comes to a free revive and if you throw on pack leader which is normally useless and melee every now and then it will never die meaning you just get constant free revives.
@@d2kwazza57 that isn't always reliable I've had times in eda where only eximus were around and amps struggle to get through over guard without maduri's buffs . The vasca meanwhile will instantly pick you up as long as it's alive. Much thanks for this video, Ken! I was hoping to see someone do comparison of the companions after the rework. I'm especially looking forward to a potential Sentinel weapon comparison since several of those had reworks done to how they function, and we have no way to test stuff without acquiring it first.
i didn’t realise they nerfed/changed charm while i was gone, that’s kinda sad i was wondering why i haven’t been getting random procs/double procs on profit taker
They’re now a set of three mods that give always active effects instead of gambling on a minuscule chance to get a super quick buff that disappeared when you actually needed it. I honestly think reliability is better for the game than gambling (unless it’s a case like Koume, which is her entire gimmick, and can be completely ignored via use of Helminth). Loyal Retriever is 13% chance of both double resources and double credits (you _should_ have gotten this on login if you have a Smeeta, but you can get it from Master Teasonai for Plains Conservation tags). Prosperous Retriever rolls an 18% chance to double only Credits (you can trade Vallis Conservation tags to Biz for this one). Resourceful Retriever rolls an 18% chance to double only resources (this one is obtained by trading Drift Conservation tags to Son). Across all mods, the double chance is rolled on item pickup, you _cannot_ combine the mods on one companion, and Venari/Venari Prime _cannot_ be equipped with _any_ of the trio.
the best weapon when scanning Kavat is actually ballistica prime, it spawn kavat ghost when killing them with a charged shot, and the ghost is treated as seperated entity that can be scan again and have a second chance of getting Kavat Genetic Codes
I'll add that Transfusion is in fact the best mod in the game simply because you won't waste an hour of your life ever again on a Deep Archimedea or a Netracell run becasue your teammates decided to run to get the reward instead of reviving you.
Super useful. Currently my beast mod collection is atrocious - when I first modded the Claws, I had no choice what to put on them because they took everything I had. 😂 Need to go collect more of the new mods. I'm really excited to have a reason to use Kavats outside of old Charm now. And I haven't used my Vasca since I first got him - looking forward to busting him out of the arsenal, too!
If you're working on kubrows next, keep this in mind that status dmg and status duration posture claw mod affects mecha set (I gotta test it more but this is highly likely).

Any interesting details on Territorial Aggression? That wasnt covered in the video, but im curious to know some basics like whether its duration is affected by tek enhance and the damage/crits/status it deals
What about Link Redirection + Reinforced Bond? I use that all the time and find it super useful. Of course, it does rely on my Warframes having enough shields for Link Redirection, but almost all of mine do so it's not an issue.
some warframe builds don't run enough shields, but the shield gain on reload makes it less of an issue. also hunter synergy paired with tenacious bond, and the other two mods you mentioned are go-to on any beast companion imo for that extra fire rate and crit damage.
Another possible downside of charm on Smeeta is if you get the crit chance boost, I'm pretty sure it'll override things like bloodrush and gladiator mods. No concrete evidence of it other than my melees dropping to orange crits from their 2 reds when getting it despite having 12x combo.
Quick question: since burning claws converts all elemental damage to heat, and precision conditioning converts all base physical damage to slash, are the bell ringer and magnetic strike mods still able to proc? Cheers!
Burning claws convert only the basic elements to burning, so both magnetic and radiation are unaffected. Bell ringer only deals status procs, not impact damage, so it is also safe.
I think Venari can't equip Duplex Bond, which is a bit sad. I mod my Adarza with cold and puncture, for the ultimate crit support. It's probably not good, but it sounds fun! I've no Idea how to build Smeeta, so I slap a support build on it and never touch them again.
Bell Ringer with Magnetic Struke doesn’t help with Eximus units iirc. Their Overguard makes them immune to knockdown which makes them immune to Magnetic Strike until the Overguard comes off, which is when the magnetic procs are already useless. Better off using Cull the Weak or increasing status chance to boost heat dmg. Or you can ignore claw mods and build magnetic but at that point, you’re better off with a Sunika Kubrow so that you’re not reliant on heat dmg to take down Eximus units.
