Thanks Chris, the poor old gopro struggles when the light goes but it's often the best time on the Taw. There's something magical about fishing in the gloaming.
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 oh the things they put up with....I was told "if the fishings good stay" I now live in a tent by the river!! often wonder how she's getting on 🤣
Nice to see so many small fish in the river, it's a good sign that it's healthy despite the awful summer we've had. We're used to washout seasons here in banjoland, but this year has been something different. June was unbearably hot, and its rained for something like 20 days out of 31 in July. Typically, I bought a new kayak and lightweight camping set up that has remained in storage since it was delievered, and most likely will remain there for a few more weeks.
Well done Chris looks like you had a nice evening , I went to local river Saturday for second spiders session but blanked not a sign of a fish there at all , wind didn't help 20mph with strong gusts . Oh to be in England now that summer's here . lol
Same here today Mike , the oh was out all afternoon so I had the time to go but the wind put me off. I hope I'm not becoming a fair weather angler. More like October than July!
That was quite a productive session Chris and pretty good considering the low water. Only change up here is it's now cold as well as miserable. 😁 Hoping for some rain this week!

@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 it’s local rivers in County Antrim, the six mile river, the river braid , the river bush , and mostly the kellswater river in my village , lovely river but the trout are really small until later in the year around august were we get a run of dollaghan trout from lough neagh which are bigger and some salmon . We’ve over 250 members in my local angling club and u would hardly see anyone on the river until July/august when the dollaghan make an appearance. I don’t mind fishing for small trout . So I’m out most weeks !
Sounds great David, I've often read about the Dollaghan trout , they sound like a special fish. Catching fish is a much about the wildness of the place and the trout as the size of the fish. We who are lucky enough to have made that conclusion have a whole world of streams available to use that a lot of anglers ignore.
A nice evening Peter, on my favourite beat of the club waters, as you say though a disappointing year for fly life, most of the time i've been fishing the water. It does appear that the "true" flies I knew in my youth ( bwo, pale watery, iron blue etc...) are really stuggling in our rivers these days. Even the terrestrials which were such an important part of our season have dissapeared!
@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 I tend to agree with you Chris and I can't quite put my finger on why some rivers [both spate and small streams] appear to fair better than others. Terrestrials have been thin on the ground too
It's really weird Paul, we have had a wet July no question, but it seems to be very catchment dependent with some rivers in flood whilst others have barely risen at all. A difference in land use perhaps? Our rivers also appear to run off far quicker than they used to, again I would guess a change in farming practices has reduced the amount of water held in the ground (lots more maize grown here now for feed).
G’day Chris …lovely mate …another beautiful little stream fished very very well 👍👍
Great stuff Chris, couple of really nice fish, lovely place to spend an evening👍
Nice angling Chris. Thanks for sharing the trip.

@@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 The larger fish tend to drop there guard when the light is fading, so its always worth one last cast.
Ah the famous last cast....half and hour later find myself saying "I really should get heading" 😂 nice one Chris. Tight lines 🎣
Yes Darren, my long suffering wife has learn't to add at least an hour to my fishing ETA's.

Another good start fish and more fish and a big one to finish with keep it up
Cheers Ian, nice to see someone watched right till the end 👍 (it was a bit dark but I thought the fish needed to be included).
Cant beat fishing that last light and slightly beyond although it can be a worry with the bats at times… great watch, thanks
Thankfully I've only ever hooked one bat whilst Seatrout fishing years ago. Not a very enjoyable experience but I suspect it was worse for the bat!

It has been a wierd one, but I seem to be saying that every seson recently.

And it looks set to get colder this week Fred, not much good for our tourist industry down here, last year we were melting!
Great stuff

Many thanks David, I've only fished in Southern Ireland in Connemara and it was a beautiful place . Which rivers in NI do you fish?

i thought the south west was getting a lot of rain ?

What's the rod you use ?
It's Wychwood river and stream 7' 6" three weight, unfortunatly they don't make them any more but there might be some on ebay?
