    Just calling the fragrance "Diaghilev" was an acknowledgment of its inspiration, because the impresario Serge Diaghilev was famously obsessed with Mitsouko and even used to spray his curtains with the stuff!

      Wow, I did not know that about Serge. You can't blame him though, Mitsouko has its fair share of enamoured fans (addicts) 😆

    Yes, Diaghilev is on another level, well said! I love Mitsouko so much, but the complexity of the 33 notes, the quality of the raw materials....really the work of a genius, the best Roja and my favorite fragrance of all time, I can write paragraphs about it. It's innovation more than imitation IMO, I can feel some Mitsouko there, but Diaghilev is much more than that, it adds a lot to the conversation, it's like an ode to the chypre genre throughout history, with Mitsouko being the most famous and respected, it is self-explanatory that Diaghilev was based on that. Damn, I love Diaghilev :))) Great great review, I enjoyed the video!

    Diagilev is outstanding, its in my top three with Boadicea Blue Sapphire and Amouage Gold Man. Gotta get Mitsuoko though to compare it. I really enjoyed your video, get a full bottle, I found one on te second market full but without box for 500€, and it is easily wort that for me.

    I sampled diaghilev in store its definately a rich opulent masterfully crafted scent but just couldn't justify its astronomical price tag particularly as you rightly mentioned its an acquired taste with limited occasions and opportunities to wear ...I can see the similarities to mitsouko though which i enjoy along with apres L'ondee Vol de nuit and Lheure bleu..... Have you ever tested Alain Delon’s Le Temps D’Aimer or Iquitos? Le Temps is a DNA I have spent the past 30 years trying to find again. Such a beautiful, deep, memorable chypre. If you can compare the two I would be very interested as Delon shares many notes with Roja.

    Vintage perfume house copy one another. Even Mitsouko took the classic chypre structure of Coty and use Peach to make a fruity chyphe yet most people never think Mitsouko copied Coty work!
    I do love Raffi note about us human and art of blending copying with little innovation!!
    Diaghilev to me takes knowledge from Coty work of the classic Chyphe, Mitsouko & Rochas femme to create something incredible!

    I agree with Diaghilev being superior and more wearable than Mitsouko. Roja gets a lot of flack for "copying" other fragrances and making them rich smelling, but so many other brands do the same and they don't get the same level of criticism and their copying is referred to as "inspiration" and such. I think part of hatred towards Roja is his success and high luxury prices and part jealousy towards his image / status. Fragrance house have been copying each other since decades ago. Most coveted vintage 80s masterpieces all same pretty similar to each other, with slight variations but somehow that gets a pass.

    • @RaffiDiranBassclef
      @RaffiDiranBassclef  8 месяцев назад +1

      Couldn't agree more. just look at what's considered an 80 masculine powerhouse and they're all just carbon copies of each other. I am a fan of old uncle Rog, but have only smelled maybe around half of his catalogue including the pierre de velay and some semi bespokes. It's near impossible to test here in Aus without blind buying full bottles from the UK

    • @deluxelex9056
      @deluxelex9056 8 месяцев назад

      @@RaffiDiranBassclef I've smelled most of his regular line and own many of them. Once you go into the PDV and Semi Bespoke they tend to get redundant and usually smell like a mixture of a few of his regular line or re-interpretations of them. For example PDV 4 is essentially the discontinued Roja Dove London and PDV 56 is the discontinued 51 Pour Homme which I was glad to find again and bought it. I have started sampling the Semi Bespoke and so far haven't liked any of them enough to justify the $800+ price tag. I would say the Semi Bespoke is the most redundant line so far. Roja is still my favorite niche house.
