I really like your way of planting. I live in a tiny condo with lots of restrictions, but I am still picking up plenty of good tips from you. This year I adopted the bin inside bin compost method. I will add your onion method later. Finger crossed that I can find cheap bins at dollar shop.

You have given me so many great ideas! I love getting a notification when you have uploaded and the longer the better.
I used to plant my onions just like this, as far as the depth and I would lose quite a few until a neighbor suggested that I only plant them root deep when the roots are formed and present. If it's the sets, he said just put them in only as deep as it takes to make an imprint. I have had much more success since. Tyfs. Much Love and God bless.

I grow all my onions in groups if 8. Yes 8 in each group. Dont worry about what other people have say. Just do what works for you. When I need an onion, I just twist one of the outer onions and use it. Plus you know what your putting in your body.

Hi Robbie! I have an old rusty BBQ grill I planted onions in just for kicks and they are doing awesome! There is actually no drainage so they got a tad waterlogged after a hard rain we had. But I scooped out the excess and they are doing great! Next year though I will actually plant them in a round plastic tub with drain holes and set inside the grill.

Great ideas, Robbie. I haven’t tried growing onions because my garden soil is so hard; lots of clay. It would be really nice to have home grown onions year round. It’s hard to find good organic onions in the store. I really enjoy your vlog; I laugh all the way through them. You are a joy. Thank you so much. Blessings

sharonromero128....You can break up your soil in tubs and add perlite and vermiculite to it or add your compost material right into trenches in your garden. Your soil will improve year after year and you can plant in the trenches after you cover them! Also mix sand into your tubs and trenches and water each well! Good luck!

Hi Robbie, as an early riser. Well not actually risen, I often watch some of your more lengthy videos.
Wanted you to know that here you've nailed it by totally expressing what has been my staunch belief for 60 of my 83 years.
Literally everything you said is spot on and so true!!!
I also believe it's all a vicious corporate circle created as a never ending money making conglomerate.
Grow pretty food but not good with no nutritional value, market with false advertising, adulterate everything to cause ill health, build fear, a funded medical profession with No nutritional training or knowledge which encourages a pill for every thing, so big pharma eventually destroy the middle class, and ends with just the rich and powerful and a slave labor force of the poor. Which grows by outlawing abortion rights and the inherent right to control one's own body.

It’s ok to grow our own food
And trust me no matter how many things we grow we will still need farmers crops to survive
I’m eating whole food plant based at the moment and it’s really a lot of plants have to eat in a daily bases and even I have garden the growing speed of my plants is never fast enough than the eating speed of me consuming plants in the daily bases
That’s why farmers actually encourage ppl use every single land they have to grow their own plants as well
I helped out the rooftop garden in taiwan 🇹🇼 and Australia 🇦🇺, not everyone can access a land and of course plants grow better and well in land but they are using every single spaces they have, plant can even grow in the pot on the roof, isn’t that amazing 😉

and I prep my pots your way with a good mixture of this and that and then top with real rich soil
    Great gardening this year !!!!

I noticed that you used some shredded paper at the bottom of a couple of your pots. I am currently shredding a LOT of old papers and would like to use these wonderful crosscut shreds. A couple of people on a gardening group said they would not do it because of the ink and even the paper. In the past I have put some shreds in my compost pile which eventually finds its way to my garden soil or pots. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you.

Here in California most of the paper is made from soy ink. I have been using paper in my compost piles and a lot of people do. The only paper I don’t usually use is some thing like grocery paper that is shiny otherwise all goes in. Works fine for me 😊

If for some reason you really have an issue going onions, try Walking Onions, those are really hard to kill, thanks, Robbie (but you might be trying to grow them at the wrong time of the year, with Onions and Garlic you start them as the weather cools down, if you start them in late Spring or Summer, the garlic may not grow a bulb and the regular onions may just die back.)

Been raising onions for 20 years... your spacing is fine, especially with you thinning them.
I love your ingenuity with the ‘planter’ and the ‘soul’.
Onions don’t mind light frost or a dusting of snow that doesn’t stick.
Dixondale in TX sells bundles of 50 seedlings.(often there’s 70 to 100). I used to plant 5 bundles in 4 foot wide raised beds... and anywhere from 3 to 5 ft length of planter per bundle. These days, I’m lucky to get 3 bundles planted, but it’s enuf.
