    You rock, the torque I referenced was the long extension, According to the instructors in the AIR FORCE when I was IN, MY INSTRUCTOR SCREEMED HOURLY ABOUT log flex torque #s. (in the very early 70s) And they made us check the extensions daily for torque flex. But we may have a lot better steel now. love your content, keep it up. thanks for getting back to me. Have A great day.

    Hay mate just some things I’ve noticed as I’ve built plenty of these the duo will not last long as there should be a mud ring the goes on the spindle underneath the duo to stop mud build up and also when u set the bearing u should also rotate the hub as u do it to correctly seat the tapered roller bearing still a good video just thought I’d let you know

    Hi! Love the channel and the content you guys produce! By no means throwing any hate but I noticed the last bit when installing the outer cover and the struggle of finding the correct torque spec. Been there a few times before with cat equipment! I’ve found if you find the bolt p/n in sis it gives you the correct bolt diameter. Often times you can search the bolt p/n in sis and it will give you the correct spec. For an akt serial prefix that bolt p/n is 8T-9400, torque is 516 Lb Ft listed under the “specifications” section for the final drive in sis

    Great video. I would like an explanation of how it works on the dozer. I understand planetary gears but confused with the orientation. What is the torque output of the drive? How expensive are the parts i.e. price range? What does CAT charge for a rebuild? Do you know what symptoms it showed to needed a rebuild?

    • @hondaman08
      @hondaman08 10 месяцев назад +2

      I'll take a stab at how it works: The spindle shown @1:16 bolts to the side of the dozer chassis remaining stationary. The outer hub rotates around the spindle. Inside the outer hub is the stationary reaction hub which is mounted to the spindle end. The axle stub passes through the spindle center & splines into the first sun gear installed @13:25. This narrow sun gear causes the first planet carrier (13:30) to rotate within the reaction gear. This first planet carrier drives the second, wider sun gear. The second sun gear drives the second wider planet carrier (15:32) which doubles as the outside case plate. This case plate is bolted to the outer hub causing it to turn. The track drive sprocket is mounted to the lower shoulder on the outer hub. So in short, the power comes in the center via axle shaft, runs through two stacked planetary gearsets (one narrow, one wide) and exits via the outer faceplate to turn the outer hub with the large sprocket. His previous video shows a similar (this?) unit being removed from a donor machine.

    Dont use impact or anything that rotates bolts with speed when using loctite, the inertia force will undress the loctite to all over inside the thread

    Question on torque #. Did you find out how much extra torque needs to be applied for the extension. ( Longer extension more torque is needed even if it is a few #) Even if it is rated for impact, it will twist also. At least I was told that in the Air Force????

    • @hondaman08
      @hondaman08 10 месяцев назад +2

      In this case, torque in = torque out - the extension would add a tiny bit more rotation of the wrench due to the twist you mention but the torque would be the same. Yes there could be some perceived wind up due to the extension absorbing some of the input energy but the torque is the same. Impact wrenches impart energy differently and the torsional properties of the extension come into play- that's how "torque sticks" work (uniform input torque with differing cross sections to yield different output torques).

    I hate being that guy but standing/working underneath such a heavy piece of steel is not a good or safe idea. OSHA would have a field day with how you rebuilt the final drive. The drive should have been supported on a stationary device, IMHO. BTW, I was crushed by a malfunctioning skid loaders bucket so I take safety very seriously as you should. What might your customers think of such unsafe practices? I mean you no disrespect of any kind. I'd hate to see anyone hunt or Worse, trust me...

    Sorry sir. You are an partseller with quarantee! Andrew is an home owner repair guy. If he would have to buy all the specialised tools to do the job? I see other you tubers using hammers and rods. Why not comment on them.
    I am a quallified marine engineer. At this moment i have a car with warning lights that only the ,,dealer,, can solve. They charge 400 for the same service that another qualified garage(only not branch) wants 185 charges.
    But the light can only be ,,dissolved,, by dacia. But then the engine has to be flushed etc etc. And as part of the service we put a new filter on the bill but put the old one in this way that the levers dont function.
    Please dont go that way. I love youre content but dont lift yourself up by getting someone else down.
