I recently purchased a boat that has trim tabs. leveling out the boat side to side was explained but this is the first I have heard about using it to control bow bouncing. Thanks for the tip!
What I love about GFT is there is never an inch of condescension towards those of us that don't know much about boats or fishing, just plain spoken educated information that is easy to understand. :-)
You don't drive a boat you run it. I started on my dads fishing when I was 12 years old. Single screw. . Don't forget to show them what happens when someone fall over board. I used to throw a life jacket over and told them to pick me. Most almost always turned up wind. After the boat drifted over the jacked they started to over it. they seem to under stand why you don't come alone side on up wind ward side. I am 85 now and admire you young people teaching the new one. I ran and crewed on boats from 20ft. up 85 ft. power boats. Sail boats from 24ft. to 76 ft. Trans pak.Wish you well. Gman
I’ve had inland boats for 40 years “ski boats, pontoon” This last year I bout a 25’ center console for the Tampa Bay area. These two ladies are very clear on the videos. Good job!!! My favorite deep water captains
I've just got my first boat. A 31ft center console equipped with twin 225 white Mercury's. I lost my lower engine parts costing me around $3K maintenance due to driving in shallow water without trimming up my engines. Simple mistake I could've avoided learning the basics before driving my new boat. Essential information! Thank for the great video ladies!
When I was in the Navy- a long time ago, and as someone who worked below the waterline, I came up with this mnemonic trick to remember port & starboard. The size of the words. Red, left, port. (Smaller words.) Green, right, starboard. (Larger words.) Thanks for making all these awesome videos Ladies! 🙏🏽
Great to see two young positive people sharing great boating skills and knowledge, useful content, and inspiring other people young & old to have go, keep it up
i don't know if you ever read my comments but don't get me wrong, i may bust on you or joke but i have total respect for the 2 of you, as a licensed captain of a 75 foot salmon packer in Alaska i understand what you went through to get where you're at. good fishing to you, keep the videos coming
Sadly I have never had the honor of driving or piloting (not sure what the official name of person steering) a boat and probably never will but I like to learn just in case. I just searched HOW TO DRIVE A BOAT and you guy are the top result. I guess the RUclips gods like you guys. Keep doing the boat/fishing related videos and don't say anything controversial about politics or religion and you should be fine. LOL 😆 keep up the good work. Love your vids. 👍
Back to boating after a 40 year hiatus. Trying to absorb all the info I can. You young ladies are great, very informative, knowledgeable and keeping it simple for us old newbies! Great stuff! Out 7 times in the past two months on my new Carolina Skiff 17 LS with 90 hp Suzuki. I'm learning a lot from videos and experience. Best advice yet: "Don't go any faster than you want to hit the dock!" LOL.

I am learning quite a few things Involving the stern , docking and taking off from the dock . These lessons although already known cannot hurt watching repeat tutorials . Your videos are helpful !
I am enjoying catching up on watching your videos. You two ladies are inspirational figures to any new boater and also to experienced boaters who do not fish using tactics that are not common to their home waters. This was a very well done basics instructional. One thing that was funny to me being an older viewer was when you said something similar to “You start the motor just by turning the key, no pushing a button like on a newer car”. My family used to own a 1943 Ford pickup and you started it by pushing the starter button. 🥂
Well obviously I’m here bc I’m “not opposed” to buying a center console 💀 the fact that y’alls last upload was 3 days ago got me hype. Thanks for delivering some knowledge. You will be telling me bedtime stories for the next couple months 😴
LOL at the one thumbs down to this vid. You girls are so positive and awesome. My youngest has been my first mate since she was 11 and I am at the point now letting her run the boat at 16 herself. Congrats on the success of the channel and doing something different that many of the other female channels.
The two of you are so good at your explanations and actually teach us all something every time we watch. Thanks for the girls on the water, we all are pushing forward to get our respect with all of those good old boys, in service, marinas, etc which are not very helpful with new boat owners or info in general. What a refreshing approach you give us all, thanks so much.
Always excellent demonstrations ladies. Advice on batteries. Do not leave your switches all in parallel except to keep them charged which is when your motors are running. When you’re recreating using a battery then turn all your battery switches off except for one. That way you save your battery/batteries for starting your motors. Otherwise you might be stranded. You don’t ever need multiple batteries to start a motor unless you’ve already got low battery problems, typically caused by draining all your batteries by leaving all your switches is turned on! One battery is all you need to start both of your motors, though one at a time. Conserve
Thank you girls. When I was taught how to operate a boat, I don't recall being told to back away from the dock. It just so happens that when I untrailer a boat that I'm always going backwards anyhow, but thanx!
I subscribed to your channel because you guys do more than teach, and explains things very well. You tell a story you give a beginning, middle and end as to what’s going on why it’s going on how it’s going on what to do about it and you make it easy to understand… so thank you
it's always a Fun and Enjoyable learning experience with the Gale twins! 👍 I imagine there is a lot of people looking into buying a boat thanks to you Gals! ( Me included ) 😊 🚤
I grew up on the water and on boats, but am here looking for pointers on helping new boaters. I have friends who just bought their first boat and are looking to me for some boaters training. This video was helpful to watch to make sure I covered all the basics for them thoroughly. Thanks for the help. My only critique would be to either cover docking or mention that you're going to cover docking in a separate video and then provide the link to that. Docking is one of the things most messed up by new boaters... that and boat ramp fails.
Great to see 2 young women, obviously intelligent and articulate, with such passion for what they are doing. Educational videos lots of boat owners could learn from, way too many people buy a boat and have no seamanship or knowledge of rules and regulations. Addictive viewing.
Wow I’m learning so much with you girls my husband is a retired merchant marine and we just boat a boat in our late years so I need to learn everything I need to be safe out there. 🤔 thanks for the great info 👍
Always learn something new from you two. As a new boat owner, just a 16’ basic fishing boat with a 40 hp motor, a lot of this doesn’t apply to me, but as an educator, the concepts are stellar. Getting away from the dock, prop turned away from dock and in reverse makes perfect sense and I appreciate the tip, very important. Please keep it up.
Excellent video for a beginner like me, who is leaving the horse world in retirement for a boat world! I subscribed and will be watching your videos. Very educational and professional ladies, thank you. Keep up the good work. Excellent!
Thank you ladies for a very informative lesson on boat trimming. When (if) I can ever afford something more than a basic outboard, maybe I'll head down to the Keys and beg a lesson! LOL
Nearly forgot... I was brought up on boats fishing in freshwater. I have learned so much from you two... you are both confident and competent captains and are most certainly an inspiration to young folks who enjoy fishing and boating!!! Keep it up!!
Excellent vdo girls. Dreamt of boat fr 35 yrs. I've finally ordered an Atomic 5 from New Zealand. Didn't know much about certaing things. Really helped. Hoping for more vdos. Thanks. You girls look so alike, hard to tell apart. Pretty and very lively. Carry on and enjoy life
I got to finish restoring my 82 cc and get it on the water and practice and more practice following your teaching, once again thank you for your valuable time.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. And in a very easy to understand way. Me and my daughter who’s 12 and son who’s 9 are moving to the coast and looking for a family fishing boat. And it’s really hard to find RUclips videos about boating that don’t include thongs and g strings. As a father I want to thank you girls for being family friendly keep up the good work 👍
Great video. I learned something today. I grew up around boats but just bought my first one last summer. Your comments about the draft of the boat got me thinking, I should look mine up. I was always taught, raise the drive when you start kicking up mud. Knowing actually measurements seems safer 🤣. Thanks!
Adjusting the Bow Trim also produces Yaw which can reduce or increase the effect of a cross wind. This is shown in your video with the Bow moving Port and then Starboard in relation to the land in the distance as you adjust the Trim Tabs.

Great video ladies. Always enjoyable to learn something new and see it put into practice. The port/starboard rule we were taught in my boating course was that the short words stick together (port, left, red) and the long words work too (starboard, right, green). If you make more videos in this vein, how about a rules of the road video with the different buoys. The boaters in my area could use a refresher every spring. Keep up the good work. Stay safe and keep the floaty part underneath you.
Awesome video, also to note trim tabs could help you get on plane if needed. I have a cabin cruiser style boat and when it’s loaded up heavy with people and belongings putting the trim tabs all the way down as well helps it plane faster and at a lower speed than it would otherwise
Hi, I’m a new subscriber. Love your videos. I’m getting my first boat in 3 months. I will definitely be watching your tutorials over and over again. Thanks
Lots of great information on your channel, thanks for all the tips. Never a bad idea for the captain to attach a kill switch lanyard, especially for beginners. Thanks ladies!
It’s actually a new law , I believe boats 29’ an under must have a kill lanyard switch installed , and drivers are now required to wear it... Coast guard & Marine police will now be checking...!!!
Thats a great video!! I'm going to drive a boat for the first time this weekend in Vancouver to Bowen Island & I feel fully prepared & confident after watching this video. Thank you @Gale Force Twins!!
Another way to remember Port and Starboard is the sentence “Is there any Red Port Left”? Port side is left with red nav light. Thanks for great explanation and videos. Very professional
Just started following you ladies and enjoy your videos so much. Ive spent a lot of time in the Keys in years past and this video location reminds me of Ocean Reef? Great work ladies! Have an awesome day!

Love watching your videos. Never had a boat with trim tabs thought I knew how they worked but the Gale Force twins took me to school! The "Q-R-S-T " was also a new one!
Same here. My boat isn't big enough for trim tabs either, but I'm very glad I learned this as well. Time for a bigger boat now here on the Great Lakes.
