Understandable how ruins or derelict bargain properties can be thrilling opportunities for folks eager to take on a long project with the means and energy to make them a home. For others looking to just slip into a comfy & immaculate home with a spectacular view in a community with amenities and lovely folks like a kitty into its favorite cuddly spot, this is the dream. I wonder what other points drive its asking price ~ like is it a favored home base for folks working away? proximity to river beach or other attractions? less likely to be affected by forest fire? Hello Ruth! Thank you for the in-depth reaction 😄 I do agree that ruins may seem and can be an interesting adventure, the reality is that it is a lot of work and also a lot of money. And don't forget all the permits and permissions that need to be ask to renovated a ruin that has been vacant for over 50 year ;) This village is populair for the obvious reasons like the views and it's charm, but also location wise it is a good place to be. 10 minutes from 5 big supermarkets, 50 minutes from a big city, fiber internet, a river and multiple river beaches 10 minutes down the hill. And like you said, not many houses here are in decent enough condition that have a view like that, location and you could move into easily. Also, it's an asking price. In general in Portugal the price it sells for can be very different depending on what a buyer is willing to pay and a seller is willing to settle for. ah thankyou!!! I grew up hearing it a lot when my family would get together or when we would go on holiday to Portugal. I didn't really speak but could understand a lot. And then I did a 5 week intensive course at the University of Coimbra last summer which has helped. I also hardly let myself speak in English to a Portuguese speaking person to practice and talk to lot of people :) But yes, born and raised in the Netherlands 😁
@Rui Goncalves you can't learn a difficult language like Portuguese in 5 weeks. Her mother is Portuguese and her father is Irish and she grew up in Holland that's why she could speak 3 languages.

There are different times of the year when the fire risk is low and in that time people start to burn the natural waiste of their land. They do this with permission of the local government and because they are obliged to keep their property clean to prevent forest fires.
Check out Destino Portugal....as Nick does the filming, he looks at fine details of the house...if someone from outside PT is going to make a trip to view the house, they should have as much info as possble. Nick is not fluent in Portugal but he works with a Portuguese agent....so your Portuguese is better. But I just point it out as an examp!e.
Land owners are obliged by law to keep their properties clean to prevent the big forest fires. So in the winter time they burn their natural waste that's on their land. They always have to ask for permission from the local municipality to do so. So those small fires help prevent the (really) big fires and smoke in the summer. That's the idea behind it at least 😄

I cringe everytime I hear "it has a lot of potential". The real meaning is "it is rubbish right now, but you may be able to rebuild it". And besides, for the state of this house (single glazed windows, no heating), the asking price is not even worth discussing.

Hello Bobby, That's a little broad of a question. It really depends on what kind of job you are looking for. I work online so I don't have much view on the job market over here. I know that there is a factory in Oliveira do Hospital where a lot of people work, but that's all I know to be honest. Definitely more job opportunities in Lisbon id say. Good luck!

This is a really old house in the middle of nowhere for 260K EUR. Insane! I have no idea, how everyone rates Portugal as one of the best countries in the EU? Insane prices for real estate along with low incomes among the locals. You try to stay there in wintertime with high humidity, lack of heating and mold. For 260K EUR you can buy a modern home with a pool in Spain (Alicante, Benidorm). Dont like Spain? Ok there are plenty of places around with more affordable properties and better conditions.

Yes, it is quite common in Portuguese houses on the ground floor, just gives an extra sense of security. Although here it wouldn't really be needed
