    In our 60s, my husband and I are planning to Owner Build. We will be in British Columbia. I found you through Pinquest.
    We have renovated houses before and I have a Design Drafting background (Electrical Design for Oil/Gas) but how you people have carried through with your dreams to Owner Build has been very inspirational. I love how scrappy you are (never give up). That is difficult, to keep that going with kids and all that land. Deep respect and thank you for sharing from someone who is shaking in their boots to break ground. 😅👍

    This would be a great video for Touchstone to have on their website. Real people with a real installation = free product. Love the comment "did you want to say anything profound". No pressure Farmer, right? lol

      The Touchstone Team is so glad that they love the fireplace. And of course we are thrilled with the way the video turned out (and we will be adding it to our blog and our customer gallery very soon)!

      @@TouchstoneHomeProducts It seems to me like the free promotion of your product on this site and your additional free promotional use of the video on your site would naturally lead to some compensation for my client. No?

    Video did not show electrical attachment. Was the fireplace unit just a plug into a wall outlet type?

    Does it have the ability to make the crackling fire noise too?

    just bought the same in the 50" version. can the frame that the fireplace is mounted to be constructed from 2X4s or do they need to be 2X6s? The surround is going to be 16" deep so there will be plenty of clearance behind it.

    • @FarmersWife

    Did you add the crystal embers or use the faux fire log.?

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  4 года назад

      The kids enjoy the embers with the color changing flames but we currently have the log in.

    Why on earth create such a large structure for your fire insert and television? Is the space behind those items a secret room or something?

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  4 года назад

      We did wonder about making it into a storage area....but originally we were going to install a real wood burning fireplace and put rock above and around it. As we were researching that option we realized how much it would cost and decided that those monies would be better spent elsewhere. We left the framing there so we can install the wood burner later. We did build shallow shelves on the side you don't see for DVDs and DVD player and internet/wi fi booster.

    1. The TV is way too high. You cannot properly watch TV when the bottom of the TV is 60 inches above the floor.
    2. One major flaw with this design (as with so many RUclipsrs DIY-ing electric fireplaces) is attempting to create a traditional looking fireplace with electric clone while adding a TV above.
    3. Electric fireplace is not traditional; therefore the mantle (and hearth) serves no purpose. The mantle added at least 24 inches of unnecessary height to the TV mount. The design guideline should be “mantle or TV” but not both.
    4. If you choose mantle route, you should just skip the TV altogether. Otherwise your hard work will only result in neck pain.
    5. If you choose the fireplace/TV combo. You should follow the rules that the TV should be mounted no higher than 42 inches above the floor. This means that close to 90% of the RUclips videos regarding DIYing fireplaces are misleading their audience.
    6. I am so surprise that very few comments talking about the flaw with electric fireplace+mantle+TV design.
    Neck Pain is just not worth it.
