Unbelievable! Thank you! I started day Lilly’s here 30 years ago. I have shared and shared them, I have tons of them. I had no idea I could eat them. Thank you! 💞
I take the green tender buds before the flower opens--wash them-then steam them till tender then cover with butter , salt and pepper--no frills and sooo yummy. Thanks for video on this valuable wild plant--God bless!
I harvested some tubers today and tried them for the first time. I also fried up a couple of the stocks...just the white parts. And ate a couple of bites uncooked (very tasty...like mild green onion flavour). I peeled and fried them in butter and served just a few with dinner to try them. As soon as I finished dinner I started to feel unwell. Sharp gas pains and after about an hour diarrhea. Now I feel fine. My husband had some too but had no gastric upset. I'm so glad I didn't eat a lot of these. I suggest that anyone wanting to give them a try to keep it to a very small sample at first.
I have those in my back yard. I have eaten them not knowing when was best. I liked them best, as you said, the day before they open. 😊 People would be surprised at how much food is growing all around us!😄
You can eat the young sprouts (make sure they are day lilies ) also even the shriveled up flowers are good in soups they will thicken the soup, thanks for the video can't wait to start foraging again still a little early in Michigan.
You really need to thin them out to increase the blooms. The first time we did this, we didn't know they were edible, so we just tossed them into our woods. Now we have them growing all over the place in our woods, and the deer love them.
The different daylillies I learned that the orange, yellow, light pinks are the sweetest flavors. The reds, wines & dark colors are a bit bitter tasting.
Nice video! I like the petals in salad. It was nice to learn how the roots could be prepared. I'll try them! A dear neighbor warned me, thankfully, that if you aren't used to eating the petals it could give you very loose bowels if you eat a large amount.
Through watching your meaningful video's, I have learned so very much! I have a yard full of thing's to eat! Your a wonderful soul. Thank you, God has simply blessed YOU!
Wooowh, I learned something today. I have a meeting of the Iris and Day Lilly Society, local chapter, tomorrow. I finally have something to report, THANKS!
Thank you PREPSTEADERS for sharing this interesting Upload about the Day Lilies, first introduced to the edible Day Lily by a youtuber friend in Oklahoma, I thought they were a creamy white color, but seeing these orange-colored Day lilies, well, I'm pretty sure we know them here in Mexico as 'Lirio Holandés', which translated is simply: Dutch Lily! lol...will try them, have you tried the aloe vera blossoms in stirfry? They're very tasty, I totally recommend you do. Thanks for sharing, liked and greetings to you from central Mexico. :D
Wow! I never realized they were edible & nutritious too! I wonder if Tiger Lilies are edible too Christa? Thanks for the botanical name...so helpful, in case other Lily varieties are toxic...as the Calla Lily is!!
thanks for this pretty girl. i jusy bought 2 bags pumpkin lilies at the fleamarket an tokdcthe old guy they are edoble and ate one blume-to-be that broke of. they are great. i also took a few over ripe bananas an blend them with one carrot, some spinach, and that succulent weed and wey and sour milk. divine... the other dont understand though.
Interesting! The previous owners of my house planted several double-petaled day lilies and they are stunning. They look exactly like the ones in your video but with just a little more bulk. Would these be edible as well?
Thank you, Tim! Common Day Lilies are sometimes called Tiger Lilies which can make it confusing. Often, what we know as Tiger Lilies are just the wild version of Daylilies that you might find growing along roadsides or ravines. Those are entirely edible for humans. If in doubt, do your research. Not all lilies are edible and I would hate for you and me to be talking about 2 different things here. I don't want you getting sick! :) Thanks for the question!
Do you have the name for the edible ones? Let's say if I go buy the lilies and grow them, I would want to buy the edible kinds to put i my garden. Or if you know any kinds of lilies that should not be eaten, please do a video on it. I see different kinds of lilies grow in the spring or summer but not sure if they are all safe to eat. In Vietnam, the ones with orange flowers can be eaten but I don't know if thet are the same kind as the ones grown in the front and back yards here in the U.S.
afaik all Hemerocallis are edible Saturday I will get myself H. lilioasphodelos or H. citrina as companions for my H . fulva, (orange variety that’s shown in the video) …the red ones its said tending to be the sweetest btw would recommend a sweet pancake like butter…..damn still no new recipe for the already picked orange ones
Hemerocallis fulva Any other kind is questionable, some sources say all daylilies are edible, others say only these ones are edible. Better safe than dead, I guess.
Are all daylillies edible or just these orange ones. Also after you take the tubers off can you replant the roots and get more next year? I love the word shared. Jesus is King of kings
I used daylily petals in place of lettuce on my burgers!
The open flowers can be stuffed with goat cheese then battered and fried, like a pepper popper without the heat
yeah I'm super curious about the open flowers... how do they taste to you?!
I'll be over in 15 minutes(just kidding).That sounds yummy

I've seen the flower dehydrated and used in soups.
Yes my mother cooked the dehydrated young buds with duck. Duck soup.
The blooms are good in chicken soup. They add a bit of thickening as well as sweet flavor.

That is so wonderful. What a beautiful surprise when you are walking through the woods.❤
The different daylillies I learned that the orange, yellow, light pinks are the sweetest flavors. The reds, wines & dark colors are a bit bitter tasting.
I'm working on planting a food forest. I'll be adding these!! Thank you!!
Nice video! I like the petals in salad. It was nice to learn how the roots could be prepared. I'll try them! A dear neighbor warned me, thankfully, that if you aren't used to eating the petals it could give you very loose bowels if you eat a large amount.

In nys wild tiger lilies look like those. But, i think the flowers last more than a day and i'm not sure they are edible
Could you make jelly with them?

Donna, you will want to do your research. But of the common day lily plant that I show in this video, you can eat the tubers and the flowers and buds!
Wow thank you . Most lilies are not edible . The flowers would be so pretty sugared and on cakes

There are plenty of other channels brother.. Apparently her beliefs and lifestyle give her a beautiful, glowing spirit. One could do worse.
Just end the video when she starts saying something you don't like. It's really quite simple.
