- This video is somewhat of a passion project regarding one of my favorite movies, Project X and later on becomes a bit of a commentary about the current state of Hollywood and also is a commentary about the beauty of the lost art that is simple and experimental unique movies. This is a new type of video for me so let me know if you guys like it and enjoy!

Project X had me thinking my high school years would be like this….boy was I wrong
Mine were
A lot of guys in my school who lived like this ended up sad. Guys are homeless crackheads.
College is more like this
@@blackogjesusat 26 that’s what is what you want?, bro. Get a life. Quit worrying about being a teenager. Those years are gone. 😂
Mines was 🔥🗣️💯
I watched this movie for the first time during my early teenage stoner years and it actually had me sat there contemplating if I would ever experience a party this incredible….. it’s 6 years later and no one’s having party’s anymore
I remember thinking the same thing when I saw this film
Same lol 30 now and havent been to any parties that were like that. Closest i got was when we wrecked the basement of an ex homies parents house 💀
honestly i don’t even think it’s possible, understandably no one’s willing to risk it😭
Damn that's disappointing I really wanna party somewhat like this. The only one I went to a female friend found on Facebook at some dudes Apt.
We was there for like 20 minutes, a fight broke out and cops came then me and her walked 7 miles till we bumped into a McDonald's with Internet so she could call someone to pick us up.
I was so mad cause I got no action and spent hours walking on a humid night with her. I never saw her again nor been to a party after that.
I would've smashed her if I was the fuhk boy I am now. I liked her when I was in the 10th and she was 11th grade but rumors were she was blowing 2-4 guys in construction class so those feelings faded fast.
( I was a naive simp back then, the first day I met her she was in a tiny red dress with her booty popping out plus intentionally bending over in a class full of guys and she was like 1 outta 6 girls in the class lol)
Then she suddenly liked me when I was in 11th grade and she was in 12th grade and was chasing after me pretty hard.
I feel bad for the idiot who married her and put kids in her
Btw sry the story is all over the place I just realized but pretty much the order is bottom to top.
Brother covid ruined parties. Any girls who were worth pulling that shit for turned into library girls. The baddies don't party anymore, they focus on their crystals and horoscopes.
I remember this was a peak high school movie when I was going through my party phase. This movie inspired a bunch of good house parties in the early 2010s
Sounds like you're around my age and yerrr those early 2010 parties were gold 🔥
The movie is dope the only thing I don’t understand is how the blonde chick forgives him so quickly for basically cheating on her lol. Unrealistic asf
My favorite moment is a deleted scene in the unrated version where Dax is under a table and talking to the camera and he says he’s never been to a party ever and thanks Thomas and Costa for letting him be a part of the whole thing. It’s unironically poignant as fuck
Aw, that's wonderful!
Surprised Dax never threw a rager since his parents are "missing"
As someone who was in high school during the mid 2010s, this is exactly what upper-middle class high school parties were like. Maybe not quite as large or cinematic, but the same vibes
Only in the usa
@@gjbsarmeri3957 nope
Project x was an era. The music, everyone wanted to start throwing project x parties. Those were the days 😩
Kinda glad people stopped trying to throw project x parties, they may have been fun but good lord they were dangerous
Miss those days man
Total guilty pleasure movie for me.
There used to be a guy that lived in my city that threw an annual Halloween party that grew to be this big and wild. You have no clue how insane it is being at a party this big, like 2000 people all wearing costumes jammed into a house and backyard going completely insane. Way Too Much Fun. I’m lucky to have been to parties this damn big and crazy.
I wanted but in my city theres nothing
The interview at the end with costa is a reenactment of a real interview of a guy that threw a crazy banger
This is basically based off of a true story about that guy
@@chrislail3824 really?? I wonder how close it was to the actual event. Obviously there wouldn't have been a madman with a flamethrower... But you get the idea.
It was probably inspired from him however project x crew didn’t admit to this as it would’ve meant they basically encourage people to do the same in real life
i went to a project x party that someone from my high school threw at an abandoned house, they even spray painted "X" on the walls 😂it ended up in all of us running from the cops lol. it was honestly crazy the impact this movie had, it's like a perfect time capsule of how the youth felt and was in the 2010s.
Every kid deserves a project X party.
i just watched this movie yesterday the timing could not be better. i loved it so much and this video essay verbalizes all of my feelings about it ts amazing
I’m glad you could enjoy and relate to it!
@@SPARKYSTHOTS the Mount Rushmore films in terms of teenagers and adult adventures with friends Is
1.) Project X
2.) something
3.) the hangovers
Likewise! It was crazy, and hella entertaining. Also, Superbad is actually quite good, give it a watch.
@sliceoflifeanimeking1496 what is Something? I googled and only found a movie about a couple and their baby from 2018.
Was a great time to be in high school when this movie came out. Like a year later before my senior year, a buddy of mine got talked into throwing our version of "Project X" a couple weeks before the school year. His step dad had this gigantic, really nice house up a private road. Multiple levels, huge patio, it had everything. Man I'll never forget that night.
I watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and it's unironically one of the best films I've ever seen. I'd highly recommend it.
Bro 2012-2014 is my favorite time period. High school was lit with all the homies smoking weed for the first few times and hip hop music was getting really experimental and downloading now classic tapes off datpiff to smoke to fuck I miss those days
My favorite 3 yr span too unmatched
Mines was my freshman year to senior year of high school 2011-2014 best 4 years
Freshman year of high school for me was dope good wood chain with my match SnapBack
Anyone who got convinced 2012 was gonna end cause of a movie was a true mark of pure intelligence
we thought it’d end bc of the Mayan calendar but the movie did support those beliefs
The movie was based on the theory of the Mayan calendar. I researched that shit since like 2006 lol there was tons of videos about Nibiru, Ananaki, etc.
@@ChadAV69 damn that’s crazy fr
I remember the project x themed parties that started popping up because of this movie
This and 21 Jump St was probably the peak of comedy and it’s sad.
Project X and the unrated version is amazing
Costa is the man!!
both have daxflame as an actor, im sensing a pattern....
neighbours is funny too
literally watched this movie cause you told me to pause before spoilers LOL one of the best movies ive seen honestly the straight to point nature has to be one of the best movie types out there great video and great to see you back in my feed spark hope youre doing well
The coolest things about this film is it’s based on a real life party that happened in Australia
The party was based on the movie 😭
@@_kuciarko_3157 nah there where copy cat partires after the movie came out however in Australia there was a party that occurred which is alluded too in the end when the kid is being interviewed by the news
@@_kuciarko_3157 bruh the party in Australia that this was based off of happened in 2008, what are you smoking
this video was like a time capsule for me remember watching this as a kid and being blown away by everything as this was honestly my first R rated movie (not including horror, gore, thriller, dark comedy movies etc.)
At this time if an address got leaked that might’ve been having a party it didn’t matter who or where, there’s going to be a clusterfuck of people from all walks pulling up. The more alcohol and resources the bigger the party always. This was attempted many times and never truly met ProjectX expectations but it inspired and I’m sure a couple people got pretty close. Being 16 and a degenerate to the max when this came out is peak nostalgia.
This is one of the best commentary videos I've seen in a minute. So unnecessarily & masterfully poetic about one of the wildest/degen movies ever made. Well done my guy!
I seen Project X for the first time when I was about 14 one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen, also the movie that really put me on to kid cudi, literally when I think of pursuit of happiness this movie pops in my head
this movie was released during my junior year of HS. I remember afterwards, all the rich kids trying to throw project x type parties.. lol needless to say almost all of them fell short. but there was one party that was actually insane. now almost being 30, im still glad I got a chance to go to a party like that.
watched that movie with my roommates before we hold a big house party with 4 other flats in our house. was the perfect hype up for that party. in the end there were 150 people in a 75sqm flat :D that was our project x moment ^^
Graduated 2012. Whole time in high-school was awesome. Feel bad kids don't get the same experience. And I'm not even looking at things through rose tinted glasses. My life's even more dope now 🙌
Our class slogan was "we made it past 2012" lol
Man I was a freshman 2011-2012 school year I just started high school man your absolutely right
2011 was so amazing
best part about project X was all the real life parties it inspired, came out durring the middle of my highschool days so it was perfect timing for some of us
I love how you don’t want to spoil a 12 year old movie. I do love this movie peak hs nostalgia
This man just credited the 2012 movie to the theory that the world was going to end like it wasn’t a theory long before that movie
project x has been one of my fav movies for years
Sparky thank you for this it was amazing hopefully one day I’ll throw a project x party
This film set the standard for partying. I graduated high school in 2012 and the summer before college vibes I get watching this recap... a classic. 2012 was an interesting year. It felt like we were all finally settling in to the new world we were living in.
2012 scare actually started because someone realized that was the last year on the mayan calendar
Project X is a honeybun to the cinema world. Lovely crafted, sweet and simple and enjoyable forever ♾️
The 2012 end of the world thing started because that was as far as the Mayan calendar went. Everyone was sort of like "they predicted thousands of years into the future, why did they stop in 2012."
Most of us thought it to be a joke, some took it seriously
I loved this movie because its such a simple concept yet its so amazing. I find it funny though for me that project x , whiplash and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind are my favourite movies. It proves cinema doesn't need to perfect or the same to be appreciated
Saw this movie in theaters. I was hanging out with my cousin and his friends. We went to the theater to watch the first hunger games then we snuck in to a showing of project x lol. I was 13 at the time😂 my cousin was a junior in high school at the time lol
Love the video! Project X is also one of my favorite movies and I would definitely consider it the best party movie ever. It was great hearing someone feel the same. And I agree with you, simplicity is a lost art in the current media landscape. So many want deep and complex, and while there is nothing wrong with exploring that, at the end of the day the deepest whole leads right back to the surface.
I remember sneaking out to go see this movie with my friends in high school and then going to a fat house party in the spirit of the movie
My guy you had me until you said you haven’t seen Superbad! Definitely put that on your watch list. It’s more of a coming of age film and dealing with change.
Superbad is like a movie of nerds on there way to the project x party and trying to bring the booze for it
The skit with jonah hill and his dick drawing problem is the best ever
Kid cudi mentioned 🗣🗣🗣🔥 🔥🔥 🔥 💯 💯 💯
Project X is a great film, I say this because of the great work behind the production , the scenes, all the scenes in which they use fire in a controlled manner, pretending the "light grenades", that was also a detail that impressed me a lot in the professionalism/creativity of the scenes, the helicopters that began to drop water on of the house since it had started to catch fire, but the influence that the film had on people made me consider it very absurd, It really surprises me how people think they could live a party like that/live to tell the tale after living it, the format they used for the scenes was everything, and I wonder, ¿a party like that could be done in real life in a way responsible/clearly intelligent?, the people who tried to organize their own project... ,they are not very smart people, they put people's lives at risk according to the news and I don't even want to imagine the financial debt that this also caused them, no matter who it was.
Yes, a project X can be carried out, but many things would have to be taken into account to avoid ending up looking like a person without two fingers in front It could be an event, but not in a neighborhood house 💀
Ahhhhh freshman year. Felt like it was made for the 96-99 babies
Top 5 movie Ngl
One of my favorite movies. It came out the first year of high school for me and single-handedly convinced me to never throw an open door party. This movie was just such a vibe and honestly, you calling Costa a Fuck Nigga one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard on RUclips
the fact that this is based off a real story is just even better
I saw project X when I was 11 years old and man I had a blast. 2012 was probably my favorite year because it was just so fun. Life was good. Now I wish I could go back to that time. The music was so upbeat and good. Disney and Nickelodeon were still fire. Movies were lit. That era was just special.
I loved this movie i still wish they'd make another one and man i wish I could party like this at least once in my life. I've only been to 1 and it was lame and ended up walking 7 miles home.
Partying isn't all it's cracked up to be
They are finally making part 2 🎉
U sure?
@@Amino999-e8k yes
2:45 okay , that lil Uzi wit the project x clips got me onboard for a sequel lol
Trying not to spoil this movie is the funniest part of this video
i actually avoided the spoilers, watched the movie and now came back to watch the video
I was 17 when this movie first came out (I am 29 now) and the ripple effect this had on every highschool was unreal. There was even a party named Project M my senior year for this kids Miguel's birthday. It did not last long because the cops did come lol
The thing about project x is the relatability to almost everyone. Damn near everyone on this earth has that story of that one massive party they remember from their younger days. It’s a memory that’s not likely to be forgotten
I don't, I was never invited to any parties
im in high school rn and i dont think anyones even throwing parties anymore after covid
@@Wrytho if you go to college I’m sure you’ll go to one if that’s your thing. I was from a small town so we didn’t have much to do so we often just decided to throw massive parties in fields and old houses due to lack of options. It’s a fun experience but you’re not missing much my friend.
@@UserRobot215 you’re invited to any party I throw my friend!
@@whiteboyramen I appreciate that, unfortunately that whole partying ship has sailed for me.
A lot of things I should have experienced when I was young has sailed for me, like dating.
I literally only went to 1 party that was truly a project X feeling party July 4th 2022 will never be forgotten, project x will always be the best representation of high school students outside of school
Great retrospective, loved this movie growing up. 👍🏻
I wish people still had partys
Its so sad
Totally right about how everyone wanted to recreate this.. shit I try to party like this but never had nothing like that movie, but now as an old man. You kind of sit back with a film like this and think of crazy stuff u done and able to enjoy that time. Yes it was party time and very fun film.
I was in 8th grade in 2012. Project X and the Geordie Shore series is the reason I had a dope high school experience, will forever love that movie. Only wish I replicated the actual party🤣🤣
This movie kicked off my party years. Still on-going.
im glad this one blew up!!!!
SOO GOOD THE ENDING IS WILD
but ending leaves you satisfied you know
UNLIKE OTHERS MOIVES!!! >:(
2012 I was 8 but man the music, the movies, the humans and the overall vibes are still with me to this day and seeing how the world is now at 19 is no where near what I expected as a kid and it’s sad man how different life could be, how much happier people could be but the world has gone to shit and we all just struggling day by day fr but on the positive side I’m at the best age I can be right now well 20-26 let’s say but yeah all depends what happens man if I have kids or not but yeah fuck this world and keep loving and living people might aswell
In LA we use to throw projects X party’s CRAZY 👏🏾🤦🏾♂️🤣💯
thomas from the movie even came to my party lol
Saw this for the first time yesterday and its easily one of my favorite movies of all time
I literally just watched Project X before this video
God i was only 5 when this came out god i wish i was a teen then
I remember I was a senior in highschool in 2012 and basically everyone saw that movie. That summer when school ended every kid who was throwing a party was "Project X Ing this shit" we only came close once
I was a junior in HS when Project X came out. No film captured our youth and chaotic energy like Project X did.
It was to us, what The Breakfast Club was to high schoolers in the 80s.
I used to always catch rerun of this movie and thought it was so cool.
Finally somebody else who unironically, LOVES this movie
The intro to the main topic of this video was insane
Love this great edits!
This movie is KIDS if it had a happy ending.
Yeah.... No!
@@MattDee24 I mean, when you think about it 🤔..........
Lmaooo not even close bro wtf😂
This movie can’t even match with kids kids was way worse then project x…
These movies are NOTHING alike wth?
I was obsessed with this movie in 2018
One thing I always loved about this film was that it was a found footage party film. Even by today's standards that's an impressive concept.
Pretty much everything that was found footage in the 2010s was horror films like Paranormal Activity sequels and shitty knockoffs trying to capitalize on the format.
Project X is honestly such a unique film
This movie sold America to me as the greatest place to live. The country of great parties. God bless America and God bless the movie (i live in Nigeria)
I was in High School in 2012, I liked the Music around that time it was more fun and upbeat that's the reason I like EDM to this day, hits that I like from Project X is the Pursuit Of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix), the Intro and W.T.P.
I was 19 when this came out and spent the whole year chasing a party like this
I was in college when this movie came out. I wish my high school years were like this.
Thanks for mentioning FUN. They ruled the music world in 2012.
2012 was a fun too be honest
So this for my 18th birthday with the boys in a movie theatre that has now shut down. Time flies….
The thing that always got me about this movie was that it felt real. I'm not talking about realism, any dope with a ton of money can make a movie look realistic, but to make a movie that feels like it actually happened is so rare that I legit cannot think of another example.
I still remember a couple years after the movie came out, I'd still have people tell me about this crazy party they saw on RUclips, only for them to show me a clip from the movie (Usually one of the camera phone clips from the extras).
Speaking of which, if you watch the behind the scenes for this movie, part of the reason it felt real was because it kind of was real. They hired an ungodly number of extras and filmed for 25 nights straight. To get additional footage for free, they handed out old camcorders and cameraphones to the extras who would just film themselves and other extras actually partying on set then at the end they just collected all of them and sliced the best clips into the movie.
They were actually worried that they'd have problems getting the extras to come back every night, but the opposite turned out to be true. Some of the extras straight up didn't leave the set because they were having so much fun.
The reason the party looked fun is because it actually was fun, those people who look like their having the time of their lives in the film really were just having a good time making this movie.
I remember my older brother telling me in 2012 too make a bucket list because he thought the world was going to end 😂😂😂
The movie is actually based on a news report in Australia, some kid put the party address on Facebook and everyone showed up
Tony hawk pro skater music in the background Sparky know ball fr🗣️🗣️
Project X being based on an actually Australian kid's crazy party is what amazes me.
I remember the movie and going to Adrian’s kickback felt like project X
Finally saw this movie tonight at the age of 22. fucking wild
Part of me is glad i didnt find project x until i was out of high school, because it would have made me feel the same way, that i had/was pissing away my high school years, but i feel like the fact that ive found it now and in a much different place that i can look fondly onto what COULDVE been instead of what SHOULDVE been. Do i still loathe the fact that i was pretty much dax without the invite to the party, yes but i also get the comfort in the idea that i can be JP, just get to experience the fun without having to take much of the flak at the end of the day if i play my cards right.
Project x is an experience alone and im glad its around to show others what can happen in all the idiocracy drugs and booze but leave them up to when they feel its too much for them, they could be a straggler at the party stepping out when it starts getting larger than their HS population, or when it hits their town over craigslist, maybe you never left the party til the drugaddict with the flamethrower popped up.
Project x is beautiful because its what could have been, what should have been and what should never be.
First 3/4 of this movie is pretty accurate to larger college parties. High-school? Not in my area
Bro I almost had a heart attack I guess they filmed this at my school now i gotta watch it
did you go to school in LA?
Project x is top 5 in my fav movies
2012 man. What a year. I was 8. I’m 19 now. 🙃
They filmed it at my high school
I just re watched Project X today 26/1/2024/ and it was a blast like all previous times i watched 😊
Search for the 'Adidas House Party' video. The director is the same guy who directed Project X (this was his first feature film), and I'm pretty sure that the shots inside the party were filmed taking that specific video as reference, considering that was his most famous work by that time. That's why the producer hired him for this movie.
I’ve had two party’s kinda go this route, we had the house full of people and had a bunch of people by the lake partying like 30 feet away. then the neighbors called the cops and 100 teenagers all ran into the woods we were literally playing hide and seek 100v3 cops lmao shit was fun asf
My favorite part about this movie was the middle school “Security Guards” 😭
Movie inspired a generation tho thing was all those parties I went to never went to and weren’t nearly as fun was only like 10 went it came out but that movie still was having posters when I was in high school 2012 that era was so fun
thought this was about the ken carson album. this movie came out when i was 2 btw
