That’s fine if you want to let them cry or don’t rush in,but what do you do if they share a room with a sibling and you don’t want to wake them up

I'd love to hear more about overnights when your kids share a room. I'm so hesitant to let one kid cry, out of fear they'll wake up the other. And sometimes they ARE both awake, but I can't tend to both at the same time.

Problem for us is that our
Pre-Schooler wakes up screaming which in turn wakes our 17 month old who also begins to cry. So our natural instinct is to try kill the first wake up before it triggers the second. How do we solve that problem?! @themompsychologist

I’ve not slept in a month. My son gets up every hour until I give up at 5am because I have work at 7am… he’s 4 and I’ve had to sleep in his bed several times to get any sleep while my wife sleeps next to him in ours.

This video is such super perfect timing for me. I have sent the link to my husband because we are not quite on the same page when it comes to this. I want our girls to be sleep trained but he wants to sit with them while they fall asleep, not really realizing that this is causing our 3yo to wake up and cry because he isnt there anymore. Thanks for all the awesome tips!

My 6 year old is doing this now, last year we lived in Pennsylvania a country very quiet setting and no issues. Now we live in NJ its quiet but connected townhouses and she will not stay in her bed. Its destroying my wife and I, we don't get any sleep. After watching this video I realized I wasn't loosing my mind thank you.

I have been searching for reasons my 9 year old daughter keeps waking up at night. She goes to sleep just fine in her bed in her room, but then wakes up around 2am or so and comes down to wake me up and tell me she can't sleep🤷 She says she has no idea what is waking her up. We have asked her specific things and she says she doesn't know. So she has been sleeping on the couch. I don't know what to do. We make sure it's a good temperature, I got her a weighted blanket she loves, there are no noises or lights that suddenly come on to wake her, she says it isn't due to being so attached to me, and she says she isn't having bad dreams. Not sure what to do.

Hi! I'm curious if you have any suggestions for our almost 4 year old who wakes us up to 4x/night and comes into our room, asks us to walk him back to his room where we'll quietly tuck him in the leave within a minute. He falls asleep almost instantly (without us needing to stay in there) but keeps needing us to go back in with him. It's been about 3 months of quietly walking him back each night and feels like little to no progress.

Thank you so much for this video! Our 4.5 year old has been waking us up each night for a month. This was a good reminder that he isn't doing that to be mean - he really is just going through a developmental leap and might need some coaching on coping strategies. What are your thoughts on using a sticker chart to encourage a preschooler to stay in their bed at night? Are incentives successful for this issue, or is it better to just be boring and consistent each night until he stops? I'm just worried that it will become a habit since it has been going on for over a month now!

This is what professional help looks like? This was so vague and unhelpful. My 2 year old and 3.5 year old wake up all night and the screaming of one wakes up the other and I never get more than an hour of uninterrupted sleep at a time. They both want bottles to go back to sleep. You said not to feed them but you didn't say how to get around this. My 2 year old and autistic 3 year old wouldn't understand conversations about "coloring their feelings". You say to look at their sleep schedule, if they're going down to late or napping too long, but there's no recommendations to go along with this. Do I wake them up from a nap after a certain amount of time? When one refuses to nap, they get tired and fall asleep super early. Which leads to them waking up super early in the morning. Nothing in this video helps any of the many issues of my toddlers not sleeping.

My almost 6 year old will make excuses to keep themselves awake or prevent themselves from going to sleep I tend to all the things that may help but it usually drags on .im wondering if theres a way i can help him find ways to help himself "fall asleep" cuz he will just get up and tell me things like he cant sleep or hes scared when theres nothing going on and he has a night light and i habe reassured him multiple times and tucked him in but I feel i habe to repeat myself to him n tell him he needs to stay in his bed if he is having a hard time falling asleep that he will eventually go to sleep and everythings ok nothing to be afraid of .ill see him in the morning ...all kinds of things to let him know it happens but he needs to try n relax in bed getting up will only make it harder for him to fall asleep any faster .i honestly think a big thing is when other family members dint respect sleeping schedules and rules like not in their bed and bed by a certain time and not to much screen time...i have on occasion allowed him in my bed but that was to sooth him after something happened .

I know this is old but my 3.5 year old boy and my 1.5 year old girl share a room and I can’t put a gate up because then he just screams and throws a tantrum until we come but then he wakes his sister and it’s a mess. He falls asleep great but wakes 4-6 times a night and says things like “I’m hot, fix my blankets, pass me my cup”. My Husband and I are absolutely exhausted and this has been going on since he moved from his crib to a toddler bed 7 months ago. Please help me😭

    • @Tonisuperfly
      @Tonisuperfly 8 месяцев назад

Change the blankets so they don’t need to be fixed. Use just a single layer duvet/comforter (thick if it’s cold and thin on hot nights). Any layers of blankets and sheets get tangled with hot sleeping children as they kick the covers off when they get hot. Also make sure it’s not tucked in down at least one side, so they can get their feet out - it’s the easiest way to cool down.
For the the tantrum at the gate, the key words are “until we come”. The tantrum works because eventually you come. If you wait until he is at peak screaming, you have effectively just encouraged him to get to that level faster because it gets results. Letting them cry it out only works if you don’t go to them unless they are quiet. Never go when they are at full scream. You just taught them to scream for your attention!
Usually right after they get to absolute full blast, that is when they stop. Just after their MAX effort. One last try before they give up. It’s called an extinction burst in behavioural science.
If they get right past this to giving up a few times in a row, their efforts will diminish quickly and they’ll give up faster, then eventually stop trying altogether. It’s really hard to go through but worth it and in many cases, only takes a few times.
Do NOT give in randomly one time or you have just ensured they will try harder on the off chance it works next time too.
I’d love to know if any of this helps at all…
