Videos that finally properly explain various methods of how midi can be used, so happy I found it. The subtle flexes like the cc message library make me look at morningstar as an excellent midi solution. Can’t wait to see further developments on your switcher! Thanks morningstar!!!
Hi MorningStar, thank you for this amazing video! When I am using the MC6 and access the tap menu, is there way I can scroll up and down the BPM, like it is shown on 3:08? Or is this only possible on MC8?
Hi. From 3 August 2021, we moved to LCD screens with white backgrounds for the MC8. The Quality Control reject rate of the previous black ones was getting too high and we could not continue to use them. We changed all our product photos to reflect this change in color as well. Since then we've also had some customers ask how they can change their black screens to white (and vice versa). Both colors work great but the QC rejection rate was something we could no longer accept.
Just bought an MC6 Pro. One question on midi clock. I use Ableton live to control tracks and I currently send midi clock OUT of Ableton into my timeline. Could I switch this around so that ableton is plugged into the MC6 midi in, the MC6 receives midi clock in and then it passes it out? in other words, can the mc6 pass on midi clock it receives externally?
Yes, you can do that. If you have the your MC6 PRO connected to your computer via USB, it will be able to receive MIDI from Ableton (USB MIDI is 2-way). You can then relay that MIDI clock information out via the MC6 PRO MIDI outputs.
Hi. Yes, our controllers can receive and relay MIDI clock. Like with all other message types, MIDI clock will be received and relayed through all MIDI outputs (including the USB port). MIDI clock is global and not MIDI channel specific. So all your devices will receive MIDI clock unless you have turned it off on each pedal. We explained that in the video as well!
Thank you for the great video. Have you ever tested the Walrus Mako D1 Delay (v2 newer version)? I have a brand new MC6 Pro pedal and send CC30 with Value 127 to the D1. But the tempo only changes from time to time, fast taps don't work. When I press the TapTempo directly on the D1, the tempo values are different from those via the MC6pro (when it works). MidiClock Tap doesn't work either. I am at a bit of a loss.
Yes, we have that pedal and have tested it before. Please send us an email at ‘help@morningstarfx.com’. We provide support from there. A service ticket will be created for you and we will be able to follow up easily.
@MorningstarEngineering Is there a way to both have midi clock assigned to a switch for tap tempo, as well as having a pre programmed tempo for each bank that activates upon loading the bank?
Yes, you most definitely can. Just use Bank Presets for that. We explained it in this video: ruclips.net/video/q_X75WNI02c/видео.htmlsi=7XyH3OCjbuYh1yLi
Thanks for the video! Whenever i send midi clock tap to my pedals it takes a few seconds to register. Is that normal? Mc3 into a strymon el capistan v2

I have Gt1000 core and just wondering if I set a tempo on the current patch and change patch to another, the tempo will be still there where I set? thanks!
Hi. Yes, that is possible. You can have 'MIDI Clock Persist' enabled on your Morningstar controller so that MIDI Clock data will consistently be sent to the GT1000 Core.
With the new updates, can my MC6 sent a simple BPM signal out of the Exp jacks to something like a Strymon pedal's Exp input, or a pedal that has a tap tempo 1/4" input?

I have my preset bpm midi clock settings on page 2 of my bank controlling the tempo of my HX Stomp. Everything works as it is supposed to, until I go back to page 1 of my bank. As soon as I have toggled back to page 1, my HX Stomp stops receiving the correct bpm and goes back to whatever tempo the stomp had globally. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? MC6 Mkii user.
Do I understand correctly that while the CC messages are sent (for example a preset change), MIDI clock can be still sent continuously during that action?
HELP ! The controller is still sending midi clock after I engage different preset on my BigSky. In the general configuration I switched off the midi clock persist and it´s still transmiting midi clock after I change preset on the controller.

I'm having troubles. I am able to get the MC6 to send a tap tempo to the Global BPM of the HX Stomp, but it is not changing the effect. The 3 buttons of the HX stomp are set as block bypass. Any idea what I'm missing?

If you have a midi controller without midi clock, but the first pedal has midi clock send, and the second pedal has midi clock receive. How do you set that up? I see a cc tap message would work :)
MIDI clock is just a global BPM value and divisions are not involved. The divisions will be handled by the receiving devices. For eg. certain presets on your delay pedal pedal could be dotted eighth while others could be 1/4, 1/8 etc. But they can all be synced by MIDI clock.
From the manual it appears that midi clock messages can only be sent out of the "Midi Out" port, but not from the "Omni Port" even if you are using the omni to send midi messages, is that true?
Hi, I’m planning to buy both a Strymon Timeline and an MC8 to work with my Boss RC500. Two questions: 1). Are the RC500’s midi parameters/options populated into your library? 2). Using the MC8 as a master, can the timeline’s internal looper track be set up to work in conjunction with the RC500’s two loop tracks? If so, how well will this work, or what functions will not work in this use case? I know there are many live looper folks who would love to know that they could rope in other single track loopers to gain an an extra track. As we looper-types saw with the now ancient Boss RC-300, three tracks is way better than two, especially with a beat-synced Timeline involved. Gives me shivers (the good kind)! If this’ll is possible, maybe make a video & sell a bunch more MC pedals?
Hi. We usually respond to technical questions (especially such detailed ones) via email. So if you do have further questions after this, please send us an email at help@morningstarfx.com. Here are the answers to your questions. 1) The RC500's MIDI functions are not fixed. The user determines what CC numbers will control which functions/parameters. Therefore the RC500 will not be included in our MIDI Dictionary as there is no fixed MIDI implementation. 2) The time parameter on the Timeline only affects the delay effect and not its loop playback time. As such, what you mentioned is not possible.
Hi. At the moment you cannot use an exp pedal to do that. But you can use the up/down foot switches to increase and decrease the bpm in the tempo menu.

Thanks! It is a bit strange that the GT-1000core does not allow cc messages for tap tempo though. Good that there is a workaround!
This is cool. Can you use the tap tempo button on a pedal like the timeline to set the tempo for all the pedals? Would it work in that direction?
Hi. That would not work as the Timeline does not send out MIDI clock. It can only receive it
Good to have a Swiss Army knife handy should you need to pry the lid off one of these boxes
Can you do a video using the Morningstar controller with the walrus audio D1?
Following
CAn this be used to sync and send tap tempo to all my time based guitar pedals AND the arppegiator in my microkog?
Hi. If the Microkorg can accept MIDI clock and be synced to MIDI clock, then yes you can do that.
This helped me so much! Thanks! I love my mc8
