It is true that a MIDI-controlled pedalboard gives you infinite possibilities, considering the number of (MIDI-enabled) pedals you can drop on to the board. But one must also consider: * assiging a distinct MIDI channel each pedal * Remembering the Program Change numbers you assign to each setting within each pedal, which is no small task, especially on pedals with no display of any kind. * And last but by no means least, the number of patch cables exponentially raises the prospect of a cable failure "somewhere" on your board, and at a gig that could be a catastrophe. This I was a great sales pitch for the Line6-HX Stomp…. Would love to have a small midi control setup for my pedals, but none of my pedals, short of my Collider Reverb/Delay has midi. Which, if I understood this properly, is needed.
The more MIDI pedals you have, the more you would benefit from having a MIDI controller. However, even if not all you pedals are MIDI-capable, you could still benefit very much depending on your workflow needs.
@@MorningstarEngineering I was really just hoping to have a small pedal controller to control the 4 pedals I use, when bouncing between clean and OD channels. I had no idea those controllers worked off of midi though. Almost all of my pedals are old school analog pedals. But, if there is a controller that works with the older style pedals, I have no idea what it’s called. But, like I said, I don’t really like pedals, so I have 3 maybe 4 tops.
Forgive me for asking, but when I just want to use one effect at a time like a reverb for example, do I have to tell other pedals in the midi chain to be off? I’ll have my overdrives in the ML5 so I’m unsure whether to make each switch a preset on the MC8 or send a CC message for each loop. I want to have one bank where I have each overdrive accessible like a traditional loop switcher. Then I want to be able toggle in the reverb for each overdrive. A USB device can only communicate with a USB host. Two same types cannot communicate with each other. We introduced a USB host port on our latest MC6 PRO controller to allow it to directly control other USB devices.

Hi. Yes, our controllers can send MMC messages (morningstarengineering.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MMS/pages/181698784/Message+Type+Glossary#MIDI-MMC), which is accepted by the Akai MPC One - inmusicbrands.force.com/akaipro/s/article/Akai-Pro-MPC-X-MPC-Live-MPC-One-Configuring-MIDI-Ports-for-Multi-MIDI-Control
@@MorningstarEngineering Hi there! Can we use the effect pedals rig directly with Midi controllers like M-Audio Code series and other Controllers like Novation, Arturia & komplete with VSTI sounds or do we need to have device like MC3??
If you have two devices with USB class compliant ports, will they be able to talk to each other midi via USB without computer, directly device to device? Or that is not possible with USB class compliant.
A USB device can only communicate with a USB host. Two same types cannot communicate with each other. We introduced a USB host port on our latest MC6 PRO controller to allow it to directly control other USB devices.
Please help me understand how midi works with the echolution 3 pedal, can't find anything to teach how to work midi on it.

How can I switch between two different amp sims ?
How do you link pedals together that don't have MIDI through? Is that what the MIDI box is for?
Hi! Good question. We explain all that here: www.morningstarfx.com/post/setting-up-a-midi-pedalboard We'll be making a video version of this blog post soon too!
Aside from changing settings can Midi turn the pedal on and off or do I need a midi loop switcher?
Hi. Yes, most MIDI capable pedals allow engage/bypass to be controlled by a CC message
@@MorningstarEngineering cool thanks!
Hallo guys,I’m new in the midi word and I understand everything but I can not find a tutorial to understand the basic things! I have a Mood pedal, from Chasebliss, ok, the pedal is default on midi channel 2, ok, I can save preset o e and 2 on the pedal pressing simultaneously the 2 switch and using the toggle, but how I can save preset in the slot 3 - 4 - 5 ecc????? Know that I can save 122 preset in total, but how??? Thank you in advance if you answer to this message!

I want to say you should have mentioned Bank Change (CC 00 and 32) in your explanation, but that would have made it much longer and more confusing. I _know_ how to use MSB and LSB, but my head still hurts when I do. 🙂
Never could get it to work on simple stuff like syncing to DAW bpm
Hi. Us and many of our customers do that with ease. If your comment is about our controllers, please send us an email at ‘help@morningstarfx.com’. We provide technical support from there. A service ticket will be created for you and we will be able to follow up easily.
I just want to turn on some old pedals all at rhe same time. is this possible?
You can. If they have MIDI, you just need a MIDI controller. If they don't you need a loop switcher as well. We explain that in this video: ruclips.net/video/VVpT0IYUMwI/видео.htmlsi=eERTI3wk9GHB0IbX
How do I use these pedals either a boss ve 500 vocal processor. This unit is not in your midi dictionary. So it’s not do simple. Thanks
Boss devices do not have fixed CC numbers to control their functions. The CC numbers are use assigned on the device itself. As such they cannot be added to the MIDI Dictionary.
@@MorningstarEngineering thanks very much for your reply. Then how can I control the Boss ve 500 with my mc3. How will it recognize each other. Thanks 🙏
@@brendan8233 You have to assign the CC numbers you want to use to control functions on the VE 500 with MIDI. Please send us an email at ‘help@morningstarfx.com’. We provide support from there. A service ticket will be created for you and we will be able to follow up easily.

With our MIDI output masking feature, they can - manuals.morningstar.io/mc-midi-controller/Message-Type-List.181698784.html#MessageTypeList-Utility
How does midi works using a TRS?
Just like any other wired connector!
How can I control my jet revelation pedal through mc6 via exp 2
Hi. If you have the MIDI version of the Jet Revelation, you can just connect directly to the MC6 Omniport and select 'MIDI Out Standard'.
What is that, about two grand worth of pedals ?
