I always liked the contrast between Jacksons soft speaking voice and his fire and energy as a performer. And what a performer. It is sometimes easy to focus on his later life but when I remember watching him on TV as a child growing up in the 80's... there really was something kinda magical about him.
It was a marvel to watch that shy boy becoming this super-confident man that had people of all creed grasping for air and eating up his every dance move. It was like witnessing Jesus walking on water everytime he teased and unleash the moonwalk like a superpower.

Just for future reference, The oxygen chamber that Jackson was in was one of several that he had donated to a burn ward at a childrens hopsital to treat burn victims. He didn't actually sleep in it, they asked him to get in and demonstrate and then someone ran off with the photos and sold them to tabloids.
Ordinarily I find Defunctland pretty interesting and detailed but a lot of things in this video seem way too lightly researched like that part of the video. They've improved since 2017 I guess
Michael submitted the pictures to the media while in the chamber himself, with his manger, Frank Dileo. It was a media play by his camp, documented by his biographer in the book the magic and the madness.
In 1986, tabloids reported that Jackson slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to slow aging, and pictured him lying in a glass box. The claim was untrue, and tabloids reported that he spread the story himself.[119] It was also reported, by the tabloids, that Jackson took female hormone shots to keep his voice high and facial hair wispy, proposed to Elizabeth Taylor and possibly had a shrine of her, and had cosmetic surgery on his eyes. Jackson's manager Frank DiLeo denied all of them, except for Jackson having a chamber. DiLeo added "I don't know if he sleeps in it. I'm not for it. But Michael thinks it's something that's probably healthy for him. He's a bit of a health fanatic."[120]
I remember seeing this is in 86 at EPCOT, when Michael did the wooo in the song the whole theater did it with him, it was awesome. Still have my Hooter stuffed doll.
I was fortunate enough to see this twice at Epcot. Once during its original run and once during the tribute run. It's bad, cheesy and incredibly 80's - in all the best ways possible.
I went to the last Captain EO tribute show in Orlando ... people cried man. There were cosplays + pins + plushies + it was almost like a midnight premier with how many people there were. I was never a huge MJ fan but it was an interesting film + had a really nice fan base :)
fun fact: translating 'weg' (noun: road, adverb: away, gone, leaving) is so tricky to pin down as a beginner learner, that there's a popular comedically mistranslated phrase in belgian's bilingual culture that uses 'we are road' instead of 'we are leaving' (nous sommes chemin)
Michael said in an interview that the 'oxygen chamber' was a piece of kit he helped design to help burn victims (in case you didn't know, michael was a burn victim himself. Whilst filming a Pepsi commercial his hair was set on fire by one of the stage effects which resulted in him permanently loosing most of his hair which required him to wear wigs, which is why his hair went straight instead of his usual tight curls) and that was him simply laying inside of it. Then someone took a pic without his permission, sold it to the media, and then crazy lies were made up saying he slept in the chamber every night so that he could 'live longer' which was 100% false considering he had a bed that he slept in...and also sadly died in.
That’s all true except I actually believe Michael had Frank DiLeo leak it to the press, along with the story, just to troll them. He liked to experiment with what they’d actually believe about him, seeing as how they’d proved over the course of his whole life up ‘til then that there seemed to be no limits. This is probably what came back to bite him in the ass in the end (neither of which is his fault). It’s easily-disproven if the press had actually wanted to; you can’t wear sneakers in those things, you will start a fire.
I was fortunate enough to catch the Captain EO tribute at Disneyland in 2011. It is what you said it is, a classic 80s throwback with awesome visuals and I personally loved it as a Lucas, Coppola, and Jackson fan. It was a strange plot but Michael's stardom carried the film. As a millennial, it really put into perspective the MJ hysteria that predated me.
TheNeers71 That's cool you appreciate the perspective available from "ancient history" haha! I collected MJ pins and put them on every day, ruining a dozen shirts before my mom insisted I could no longer wear them. So I made a scrapbook instead. I remember crying because I wasn't allowed to go to his concerts since I was only 13. In my school, you either liked MJ or Boy George. I secretly liked them both, what a rebel. Anyways, I did get to see Captain EO when it was out originally, when my parents took us to DisneyWorld along with my grandmother. The film pedigree of Lucas & Coppola mattered less to me then, even though I've always been a huge Star Wars nerd, so it's dope to rediscover this now. Well done, Kevin P!
While it was nostalgic to see Captain Eo again for the "tribute", it was hastily done and as a result all of the practical effects from the original version were gone. The experience was nowhere near as immersive, although in retrospect an immersive experience with Michael Jackson sounds kinda creepy...
I was jealous that my cousin got to go see Captain EO at Disneyland back in 1987 and I didn't get to go. I was going to go with my uncle and cousins but my uncle's ballbreaker of a girlfriend just wanted them to go because she didn't want me there. I remember asking my cousin how cool was the film and he said it was pretty cool. Cool special effects and great characters. I never got to see it until recently and it was good
It wasn’t removed the first time because of MJ’s controversies, it was removed because of the Tomorrowland remodel. The allegations happened in 1993 and EO lasted well into 1994 and past that in other parks.
Not only did the 1998 remodel took away Captain EO it also took away the beloved Peoplemover which was a big mistake in my opinion, even though the disgusting 1998 colors are mostly gone the old Captain EO theater is just a preview center and abandoned
I have a bootlegged DVD of Captain eo and I plan on someday using it to bring the attraction back in the form of a homemade theater. It could be the easiest defunct disney attraction to bring back one way or another.
I mean its uploaded in high def on RUclips? Why the fuck do you need your DVD, if anything thats gonna be a pain in the ass cause you are going to need to find a DVD player.
Prior to the film beginning I remember a Disney Employee pumping up the audience by speaking over a microphone, “Are ya’ all ready to see Michael Jackson!!!!” Everybody in the theater hooted and hollered. Good Times.
He sounds like a kid out of his depth until the final confrontation. It suits the character he's creating and makes "Change the World" that much more powerful when it hits.
I actually saw this when they brought it back after Jackson's death. I really liked it and I thought it was neat. And for the record, I love Chocolate Easter Bunnies, so up yours Los Angeles Times, you bunch of joyless people.
@@MrWolfSnack wow, do they really make them that big? Unfortunately they sell so well in my country that I don't think I've ever actually seen one reduced.

I went to Disney World sometime in 1987 or 88 and I have to say, for many years, I questioned whether or not Captain EO was a dream I had or something that actually happened. haha. I remember being TERRIFIED by Angelica Houston. I am quite certain this was my first experience with 3-D and that added to the slight terror.
You and I must've seen it in the same time-frame and age bracket. Thing is, I don't remember a thing about EO itself, but I remember (vaguely, the memory of a memory) some of the in-Disneyland hype /about/ it.
Same here. I was 9 when I saw Captain Eo at Disneyland for the first time in 1995. I would keep adjusting my 3D glasses every time she appeared on screen. I would eventually see it again in 2010 and I enjoyed it a lot more.
You just reminded me of the first 3D film I saw, which only aspired to be as coherent as _Captain EO._ It was a post-apocalyptic space Western with an evil wizard (and people think culturejamming wasn't invented until the oughties). There's a scene where the main character has a knife fight with a guy played by Richard Moll (the actor who played Bull on _Night Court_ ), and both characters spend a lot of the time thrusting their knives straight at the camera because _It's in 3D, you know._ :)
MJ was so right that kids want to be frightened, cuz when Anjelica Houston came down and put her sharp nails in our face it was scary as hell but then MJ defeated the baddies it was fuckin awesome.
I remember going on this. I was super excited because I was a huge Michael Jackson fan... but I also had crossed eyes and couldn't see the 3-D effects. The whole thing was blurry like watching a 3D movie without 3D glasses. I had kind of always hoped to go back and try it again since I got my eyes fixed. Also Rhea Perlman and Danny Devito were waiting to see it the same time we were in line. But their bodyguards were keeping everyone really far away from them.
I think RUclips is creating pockets of viewers in certain content areas, which is why people keep seeing you and other creators in comments. You're in the same bubble.
As an MJ fan growing up in Australia, Captain EO was always something I knew about but was sad I’d never get to see. I was lucky enough to see Captain EO Tribute when I found myself in the States in 2012; so I got to fulfill something I had always wanted to do since I was a kid. It was brilliant. The story and some of the dialogue is a bit lame yes, but in the theatre with the music pounding and the seats moving and everything, it was effective. So glad I got to see it in that little window of time before it closed.
I remember watching this at Epcot as a kid in the 80s and it was amazing. I even have Jackson's little orange fuzzball creature stuffed animal that I got when they had the souvenirs in the stores at Epcot
I saw this at Disneyworld, and in my vivid memories from being 8 years old, I remember that meteor at the beginning coming right out of the screen and watching it travel all the way to the back of the auditorium, passing through the wall where the projector was, while not even looking at the screen I'm pretty sure that's impossible
I''ll always remember that opening scene where the asteroid gets closer and closer until your 3D glasses made it appear to be floating right there between you and the seat in front of you. The entire theater gave a collective gasp at that moment.
Me too! My peripheral vision caught motion alongside me, and I turned my head to see half the audience pawing at the air in front of them. It was *that* convincing!
I honestly don't get the criticism the Jackson's speaking voice was too high. I mean yeah he does have a high speaking voice but that doesn't mean the rest of his performance (especially the singing) couldn't make up for it
According to several producers of his records he spoke that way on purpose as a way to train his voice to be able to hit the high notes on queue at any time and had been doing it since he was a kid. He would frequently prank them by calling them and talking in his natural (deep) voice just to freak them out! Dunno how true it is but it seems at least somewhat likely to me and man would it be funny if it were true! See what you think ruclips.net/video/pCF3NZAyPsM/видео.html
The commercial is Dutch and translates to: 'Oh, we are leaving' or 'Oh, we are leaving again'. Hard to know without context! :) Awesome video, shame they closed it now and renovated it in 2012 when I last went to Euro Disney Paris. Edit: After watching the whole commercial it clearly is (in a dissapointing tone) : 'Aw, we are leaving already...' Because it was a promo ad for Euro Disney from 1991 which would open in 1992.
"Another Part Of Me" is still one of my top favorite MJ songs, part of that is likely from seeing the movie when it came out at Disneyland. 80's kid, MJ fan, Disney fan, music fan, movie fan, Disneyland fan, Star Wars fan,....etc., etc. Yeah, all that's just another part of me. ;-)
Ive never actually seen Captain EO. I just know about Another Part Of Me because its on the Bad album. Its an amazing song. I remember the first time I heard it, I instantly started dancing.
I saw it at Epcot in the 80's when it was the new big thing, and I loved it. The quality of the 3D effect was a quantum leap ahead of any other 3D movies I had seen before. Thanks for another great episode!
Same here, spring of '87 I remember my shock when the evil queen turned into Angelica Huston. I elbowed my friend "Hey look, it's (forgetting her name) that chick from Ice Pirates!"
I dunno... MJ went to private screenings and watched from a separate section. I doubt he even touched the general line... or do you mean when he visited the park incognito?
I always felt Captain EO villain and creatures were heavy influences on the Borg and later Borg queen of Star Trek! The entrances by both are so similar!
I was at the Tribute opening at Disneyland in the first public showing. It was a fun experience having grown up going to Disneyland and seeing it in its original run. I even made it into our local newspaper's front page crowd shot!
Hi Defunctland Community! Hope you liked the episode on Captain EO! If you ordered a Captain EO 4D for $5 pack, then it should be on its way. For those of you that would like to watch the episode in 3D in side by side, unfortunately, I cannot export the video that way. If anyone knows how to convert 3D anaglyph to side by side (if such a process exists), please let me know. Thank you! Also, I apologize I called Richard Baker "Rich" instead of "Rick." If this bothered you, wooowwww.
Gotta say it... I still get a kick out of EO. Just mindless fun and I’m a long term fan of MJ, so just a bonus. Good stuff and can’t wait to see what’s next.
I went to Disney World this past summer. And without a doubt, the worst attraction there was the Ellen Degeneres, Bill Nye Energy ride. It was hot and my wife and me went into this ride to cool off. We were warned in the beginning that it was 20 minutes long. But we thought why not. Boy that was twenty minutes we'll never get back. It was strange because it was Ellen twenty years ago. And I mean Ellen, before she came out Ellen. And Bill Nye before people thought he was full out it. We were two of maybe twenty other people there in these huge rotating platforms. I mean each platform could house a hundred people. But there were only twenty there. The ride was boring. Ellen, wasn't funny. Infact she was beyond annoying. The cameo's in it were uncalled for. Why was Jamie Lee Curtis in this? But the worst part of the attraction is when Ellen and Nye went to the time of the dinosaurs and the platforms we were in moved and we were surrounded by all these bad, embarrassingly bad dinosaurs. After it was over we sprinted out of there making fun of it for at least the next half an hour. I heard recently there getting rid of the attraction. Thank you. I don't know how it survived that long. Anyway the reason I told this story is that even though I hated the attraction. i would love to see what the history of it is.
Hey there! Your Defunctland videos are great. I am 40 now, and grew up in SoCal as a kid. Needless to say, we spent many days at Disneyland in Anaheim. I used to look forward to the Captain EO experience each and every time we went to the park (even if just to avoid the CA summer heat for a bit in that theater), and everyone here saying what a great piece of the 80s this is, are 100% accurate. Heck, even into the 90s it's significance still held weight. What can I say, we were easily entertained back then: fun and "danceable" music, cool 3D movies, frickin' "la-sers"...what could be better? Even when Captain EO Tribute came out in 2010, I appreciated the ability as an adult to bring my kids to see the show. We may have taken them 2 or 3 times before it, too, closed down. Even they loved it, but maybe slightly brainwashed by me who had pumped it up tremendously before I took them. No matter what shows they have added since, I honestly can't even watch anything else in that same theater if it's not Captain EO. Just doesn't feel right, like ghosts of past still lingering. Look, Michael was magic back then, larger than life, worshiped even, regardless of whatever controversy has popped up since. He was pop legend, a truly iconic figure that we just don't see the likes of today (there have been big, and great, artists since then obviously, but really nobody with that type of global reach into music, fame, and even politics). For Disney to have succeeded in capitalizing on Michael's pop star status for this project was both genius and expected. I know this isn't a discussion on MJ himself, so I don't want to derail the intent of this video. But it was certainly a great time to be a kid, and his star power certainly lent well to my Disney trips, because Captain EO was always one of, if not the, first places I wanted to go at Disneyland. I'll always pour one out for this lost homie...
I miss him so much! He was, and is, truly one-of-a-kind. Now I still don’t know the whole truth regarding all of the allegations made against him. But I do know that it’s his music and his phenomenal dancing that will continue to be what I love about him most. His creativity and musicianship were phenomenal. So no matter what else may be said about him, he was and is the King of Pop. We were only a year apart in age. I grew up in the Detroit area. One of my first 45s is “I’ll Be There”. In essence, I grew up with him and his music.
After seeing how many geniuses were behind Michael the ultimate entertaining genius I fully understand why I was so obsessed with Captian EO at Disneyland
I actually got to see Captain Eo as a kid when they brought it back after his death. I mean, yeah, it’s not great, but I’m still really glad I got to see it. Not often you get the chance to experience a defunct attraction
I remember seeing Captain EO when they brought it back as a tribute to Michael Jackson, I’m glad they did because it was such a cool experience. Maybe I’m in the minority, but it was so much better than Honey I shrunk the audience or Stars Wars Path of the Jedi.
This is definitely a concept that should be made into a full-on musical sci-fi movie, since there aren't many sci-fi movies anymore that are fun and energetic other than arguably the Star Wars movies depending on how you enjoy them.
Captain EO still is one of my favorite things that ever was at Disneyland Anaheim. I remember everything about it! It was pretty amazing. Even just watching the commercial now makes me want to go see it. It’s hard to explain unless you were a kid in the 80’s. Micheal was LARGER THAN LIFE.
This was one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland when I was a kid. I think the dialogue is fine because the captain uses music to defeat the enemy so you would expect the captain to be soft spoken. I’m so glad I got to see the tribute.
It was always one of my favorites. I loved the intense audio and visual effects. I missed the tribute mostly because of the prices and I was still recovering from the recession.
Amazing. It's been 20+ years since I saw this (the one and only time), and I still vividly remember that opening shot with the asteroid hovering in front of your face. Thank you for the memories! :D
I'm guessing in one of the character costumes. They did show Winnie the Pooh, so most likely something like that. Kind of creepy in retrospect, but I can totally see where it would be necessary.
A lot of times if he wanted to go out in public he would go in disguise. So he most likely dressed in hats and Disney merchandise when he went to the screenings.
I have this picture in my head of MJ in a derby and fake mustache & glasses get up as his "disguise." He's proceeded by his people paying off visitors to pretend not to recognize him.
This is amazing. There are things I knew here and stuff I didn't mainly cause at the time I remember reading up on Disney World as we were going to take a trip there. I was maybe 14 or 15 when we went the first and 2nd time (two years in a row). One year they still had the previous movie with the kids in 3D playing and doing stuff. Then I remember we also saw the Figment stuff and Capt EO on one of the two trips. I still have some stuff like pamphlets and such if I can find them again. I'm still surprised it did so badly considering how big MJ was at the time.
Yeah from the behind the scenes footage I've seen it looked like Coppola, as you mentioned, was the driving force behind this flick. I wonder if Lucas's name wasn't attached if it would have been the same movie. Just ripping off Star Wars without the director of the original film. As always mr. Perjurer great video. I'm so happy for your success!
+Cake64 What if the original Star Wars is actually crap? Believe it or not, behind the scenes was one drug fest after the other. Look it up if you don't believe me.
I was a Michael Jackson fan ever since I was in the second grade. When he died, a part of my soul died with him. I first saw Captain Eo on RUclips when people first uploaded it. Then, when I found out that Epcot was bringing back the attraction, I forced my sister to go with me to watch it.
Michael Jackson's speaking voice is beautiful, exactly what I want in a space hero. The idea of dubbing over him sounds absolutely disgusting. I'm so glad they couldn't bring themselves to do something so awful.
13:20 the dutch children just said they were going away again.its a bit couse they are riding all the attractions in the park and then teleport out of them. i got that thing on vhs.
I saw this several times as a kid in the '80s. The 3D was absolutely spectacular, like you felt the objects were truly there in front of you or being thrown at you. Every 3D experience I've seen since then has paled in comparison.
Aw I remember watching this in 2010! When it was on a tribute run for Michael Jackson. I'm glad I am cause this is is a fun cheesy 80s music video and movie classic. And I am so glad to see it when it came around for the tribute run. XD Love this video Defunctland! this is an awesome one!! Now since I kind of feel an Epcot Vibe. Honey I shrunk the Audience or Journey Into Imagination should be next! :D
I remember watching captain EO at EPCOT in 1993, back when michael jackson was the undisputed biggest name in entertainment and only months before the first serious allegations went public. It felt like one of his long-form music videos, really; almost like if somebody asked the question "what if MJ did a star wars themed space performance"? In '86 it must have been incredible to see it, especially with the 3D, but by 1993 it looked dated. MJ didn't even look like that anymore, his image had changed so much, and the music and space theme wasn't the coolest thing anymore into the 90s. Still, the 3D visuals were excellent and MJ was a superb performer. If you could accept the ewoks-type campiness, the entire experience was a treat.
Hideaki Anno actually referenced this movie in his 1998 film Love And Pop, in which there's a character who calls himself Captain EO and dresses like Michael Jackson and carries around an old fuzzball plush that he talks to

Bingo
fun fact: translating 'weg' (noun: road, adverb: away, gone, leaving) is so tricky to pin down as a beginner learner, that there's a popular comedically mistranslated phrase in belgian's bilingual culture that uses 'we are road' instead of 'we are leaving' (nous sommes chemin)
Ned Flanders We gaan al weg?

That was my favorite sentence!
"Captain EO is the key to all this."
-George Lucas
LOL
edit: Hooser is the key to all this
It’s like poetry
Jackson is a funnier character than we've had.
It's gonna be great
Michael said in an interview that the 'oxygen chamber' was a piece of kit he helped design to help burn victims (in case you didn't know, michael was a burn victim himself.
It’s easily-disproven if the press had actually wanted to; you can’t wear sneakers in those things, you will start a fire.
pastelxyume I remember those stories about him sleeping in the chamber
It was bullshit
Kyrator Oh shut the fuck up, he didn’t “bang” kids, he was innocent.
he did it to keep himself rested
I saw it once as a kid in the 80s and then again as an adult in the 2000s. I had forgotten how cheesy it was. It had 80s written all over it.
I never got to see it until recently and it was good
SAME I STILL HAVE THE SHIRT
It wasn’t removed the first time because of MJ’s controversies, it was removed because of the Tomorrowland remodel. The allegations happened in 1993 and EO lasted well into 1994 and past that in other parks.
Exactly. It was open in CA for longer. Just an hour south of his ranch.
Not only did the 1998 remodel took away Captain EO it also took away the beloved Peoplemover which was a big mistake in my opinion, even though the disgusting 1998 colors are mostly gone the old Captain EO theater is just a preview center and abandoned
@@markusnashorn1145 I think that might have been the Michael Jackson tribute hologram?
@@JonathanGaeta I hated that remodel. It was so weird
I have a bootlegged DVD of Captain eo and I plan on someday using it to bring the attraction back in the form of a homemade theater. It could be the easiest defunct disney attraction to bring back one way or another.
dont forget to buy those cheap red/blue 3d glasses...
Basti?
@@paulgabel8261 it didnt use that kind of 3D. It used the polarized lenses.
Maybe in neverland, bit never in Disney
I mean its uploaded in high def on RUclips? Why the fuck do you need your DVD, if anything thats gonna be a pain in the ass cause you are going to need to find a DVD player.
Prior to the film beginning I remember a Disney Employee pumping up the audience by speaking over a microphone, “Are ya’ all ready to see Michael Jackson!!!!” Everybody in the theater hooted and hollered. Good Times.
Michael's squeaky voice is entirely part of the charm of Captain EO :D
He sounds like a kid out of his depth until the final confrontation. It suits the character he's creating and makes "Change the World" that much more powerful when it hits.
UncommonManFromEarth i can’t even begin to tell you how cute my friend thought his voice was😂
I remember it, felt like it sent a message that it was okay to be the captain of a ship yet be softspoken. Didnt have to be some millitary Cena type.
I actually saw this when they brought it back after Jackson's death. I really liked it and I thought it was neat. And for the record, I love Chocolate Easter Bunnies, so up yours Los Angeles Times, you bunch of joyless people.
I love them too, but they're just so expensive!
@@r.alexandercorbitt1554 I buy them after easter on clearance. $2 for a 2 foot tall choco rabbit lol
@@MrWolfSnack wow, do they really make them that big? Unfortunately they sell so well in my country that I don't think I've ever actually seen one reduced.
@@r.alexandercorbitt1554 Ah, here in USA there can be pounds of chocolate leftover after christmas, halloween, easter, et. al. They just keep marking it down until it sells. Usually it's nasty stuff nobody wants, but often you find the good stuff.
To be fair, LA Times had a point about hollow chocolate easter bunnies. They really don't compare to ones that are solid all the way through.
" I remember being TERRIFIED by Angelica Houston."
That's like every movie she's in though lol
@@notsusan Except Addams Family. She OWNED that part!
I was there when Captain EO returned to Epcot. As a huge fan of MJ it was an awesome experience. Definitely a memory I'll never forget.
MJ was so right that kids want to be frightened, cuz when Anjelica Houston came down and put her sharp nails in our face it was scary as hell but then MJ defeated the baddies it was fuckin awesome.
The scariest part for me as a kid was when they blow up the damn meteor right in the beginning. IT WAS SO DAMN LOUD!
Angelica was knocking off the wicked witch of the west, and Elmira gulch
She was hot
I saw this movie as a child at Disney world and I was SCARED and I also fell in love with Michael
My favorite part was that red flying furby.
I was never a big fan of roller coasters, so Captain EO was actually my favorite part of my family trip to Disney World.
AGREE THIS MOVIE WAS MY FAV PART AT DISNEYLAND....
Epcot
The Eurodisney commercial is in Dutch and translates to: Awww we're leaving already
I think this translation is more precise than Peter's. The kid didn't say "we moeten weer gaan".
Ik was zo in de war toen ik dat kind hoorde, het klinkte eerst niet echt als woorden ofzo xD goed om te weten dat het dus wel gwn Nederlands is :))
@@eliaskorf4747 Man that commercial hit me like a ton of nostalgia bricks.
"Danny DeVito seems like the kind of fella that has a short, but thick penis."
Its a shame that it ended really, the concept would have made for a great TV show/cartoon for Disney.
Hey, Larry!
Good taste in youtube channels 👌
It's Larry! Always a pleasant surprise seeing you in the comments section on every video i watch
After seeing Larry's profile picture my brain decided to read this comment in his voice.
I'm not sure if I wanna be proud of that
Jesus you are in the comments of every video I watch
I think RUclips is creating pockets of viewers in certain content areas, which is why people keep seeing you and other creators in comments. You're in the same bubble.
Spielberg: Michael, we could do something in space, a dance video, or a puppet buddy flick. Which one should we choose?
Michael: Yes.
😂😆
I love this comment so much
Honestly, a Lucas-Coppola production with a Michael Jackson soundtrack sounds absolutely awesome.
oh it was, 😢 sad it's not being shown anymore
I saw this at Disneyworld, and in my vivid memories from being 8 years old, I remember that meteor at the beginning coming right out of the screen and watching it travel all the way to the back of the auditorium, passing through the wall where the projector was, while not even looking at the screen
I'm pretty sure that's impossible
"So believe it or not they were over budget..." 😂😂😂😂😂
I''ll always remember that opening scene where the asteroid gets closer and closer until your 3D glasses made it appear to be floating right there between you and the seat in front of you. The entire theater gave a collective gasp at that moment.
Me too!
My peripheral vision caught motion alongside me, and I turned my head to see half the audience pawing at the air in front of them. It was *that* convincing!
I honestly don't get the criticism the Jackson's speaking voice was too high. I mean yeah he does have a high speaking voice but that doesn't mean the rest of his performance (especially the singing) couldn't make up for it
Nicolas Young me neither. I find that his voice is really cute actually.
I know. His voice was perfect!
as a kid for a while i was confused if he was a girl or a boy. truly.
but i fucking LOVE captain EO so fuck it.
See what you think
ruclips.net/video/pCF3NZAyPsM/видео.html
@@markblaze4909 I think MJ loved blending the gender line a bit.

Yeah, all that's just another part of me. ;-)

As a diehard appreciator of Captain EO, this is by far my favorite Defunctland episode to date! Well done, Kevin. Keep up the incredible work!
I saw it at Epcot in the 80's when it was the new big thing, and I loved it. The quality of the 3D effect was a quantum leap ahead of any other 3D movies I had seen before. Thanks for another great episode!
Same here, spring of '87
I remember my shock when the evil queen turned into Angelica Huston. I elbowed my friend "Hey look, it's (forgetting her name) that chick from Ice Pirates!"
My dad was a kid at the time, and Michael Jackson cut in line right when he was going to get in line. He continues to be annoyed by that.
If your father was a kid at the time, Mike could've done much worse.

Anjelica Huston and Jack Nicholson were NEVER married. They dated for many years.
I saw Captain EO on my Grad Night trip and I loved the pure 80s fest it gave me. Only like 5 of us went to see it but I came out dancing!

The entrances by both are so similar!
And James Horner's score is basically copied and pasted from Star Trek III

Hi Defunctland Community! Hope you liked the episode on Captain EO! If you ordered a Captain EO 4D for $5 pack, then it should be on its way. For those of you that would like to watch the episode in 3D in side by side, unfortunately, I cannot export the video that way. Gotta say it... I still get a kick out of EO. Just mindless fun and I’m a long term fan of MJ, so just a bonus. Good stuff and can’t wait to see what’s next.
I received my pack yesterday!
He truly is the greatest entertainer of all time.
I miss him too!!! Love Michael so much
The King of Pop was a name he gave himself. Nobody seems to remember this.
@@SpamEggSausage I do remember that. It doesn’t change his impact on music. Or his talents.

Narrator mentions O.J. Director yells, "Cut!" Audience cries out, "Too soon, man... too soon!"
This was one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland when I was a kid. I think the dialogue is fine because the captain uses music to defeat the enemy so you would expect the captain to be soft spoken. I’m so glad I got to see the tribute.
You should do a video about Terminator 2 3-D after it closes. The making of that show and film are really damn interesting.
There's a bunch of that on the T2 Skynet Edition Blu-Ray which I believe also has the entire short film in 2D.

the real question is how would he go in disguise
ghosting jasper I thought the same thing.
ghosting jasper As Jermaine. No one would recognize or bother him.
I feel like this film is what the original Star Wars would be like if no one was there to keep Lucas in check...
+Cake64 What if the original Star Wars is actually crap? Believe it or not, behind the scenes was one drug fest after the other. Look it up if you don't believe me.

I remember LOVING this show as a kid(mid 2000s). It was just so weird and crazy.
Awesome as always! Since you were talking about EO, I was hoping you'd show some love to the ever amazing and important Captain Eeyore.
We managed to see this in 2014 during the tribute re-opening. We didn't realize it was a special re-opening at the time, glad we had the opportunity.

How you didn't use a shot of Michael Jackson's South Park character dressed as Peter Pan when explaining that second concept is beyond me.
"That's ignorant, you're being ignorant"
I remember seeing this!!! I love this movie!!! MJ for life!!!
Translation for that Clip: "At least I'm not sitting behind Tigger anymore"
Hideaki Anno actually referenced this movie in his 1998 film Love And Pop, in which there's a character who calls himself Captain EO and dresses like Michael Jackson and carries around an old fuzzball plush that he talks to
I'm glad I was able to see it while it was showing at EPCOT in 2013.
