I don't know what possessed me to ask for it, but I still have my Carmelo Anthony Nuggets home jersey that I got back in high school. It's one of the only sports team jerseys I own (also have my hometown team Megatron Lions jersey) and it's pretty special to me for that reason. It's crazy to see how his career turned out. Wish I could've gotten a Pistons jersey with his name on it but it never came to pass. C'est la vie and all that.
No other NBA in history truly capture the difference between the individual skill of getting a ball into the hoop, and the actual impact of impacting a 5v5 match.
I'm not sure if the Pistons win anymore rings if they draft Melo. Reason being is, they probably get off to a good start and don't trade for Rasheed. The main reason they won a ring and almost won another was the Rasheed trade.
Well the thing is, when you change one circumstance all the circumstances behind that one change as well. We can pretty much say it was a gaurunteed ring season ahead.
He could have signed with NY as a free agent and played on a really good roster. But he wanted that extra money from resigning with the same team so he forced the Knicks to trade their good depth for him.
I feel as time goes by, people will say Carmelo Anthony was underrated legend because of his stats without any context to his actual career. I think he’s overrated
Melo will always be remembered as overrated, dishonest, money grabber, selfish, lack of leadership skills, lack of defensive skills, not hustling, giving up easily once he got his 30 points, associating himself with gangsters, linsanity killer and being bitter as a retired basketball player.
Say what you will about Melo, but bro did not run away from the grind. He chased the bag, but he never stooped down to super-teaming up with anyone else. Stubborn? Hell yeah, but that's what got him success in the first place to make it into the NBA, it's pretty much hard-coded into him how he can win in a particular way.
I'm sorry but with Melo I don't get a "grind" vibe. It's more like a spotlight vibe. I'll never forget what he did to Lin. Or forcing a trade to NY instead of playing like two more months and going there as a free agent with more of the roster intact. Moves like that tell me he's either A.) Not too bright or B.) He didn't care about winning like his fans claimed.
But he should’ve ran … yeah ran to the heat and formed a “Big 4” w/ the “Big 3” in Miami .. Celtics did it in 08 so what would’ve made that situation different? 🤔 I know what he said on his podcast or PG podcast but still tho he would’ve had two to three rings right now
Melo’s teams only ever lost to better squads in the playoffs. Made the playoffs his first 13 years. & the best coach he played with is hated by everyone he ever coached
Much like Dominique Wilkins or Tracy McGrady, Melo is one of those dudes that never won anything because he didn't understand the basic concept of team sport, not to mention the ego. To this day he probably says that he did nothing wrong.
I just got into basketball when Syracuse won the Natty. I remember watching Melo play and thinking “I’m going to be a fan of whoever drafted that guy” and boom, I was a Nuggets fan for quite some time, until I moved to Philly and the Sixers stole my heart. I will always have a special place in my heart for Carmelo, I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he’s always deserved
As a Bulls fan, I'm so glad that never happened. His black hole ball-stopping self-centered iso ball style would have single handedly ruined the chemistry of those pre-injury Rose teams. Can you imagine how bad his pouting attitude would have been in response to the effort expected from Thibodeau's coaching style?
@@MrOctober44 for one Melo is older and was a Vet not no young unproven players, two Melo resume speaks for itself, three worst case scenario it would’ve been the same type of relationship Jimmy and Rondo had. Or they would’ve had the type of relationship that Jimmy had with D-Wade. Melo and Thibs would have hated each other.
Melo's such a "What If" for Memphis Grizzlies fans like me: 1.) the Pistons actually drafted Darko with our 2003 pick. If we'd kept that pick, we could've gotten Melo.* 2.) We always wanted him in the Grit n Grind days, when everyone was defending and only Mike Conley was scoring. If he'd come to Memphis, it would've looked a lot like those Olympics teams. And now I live in Syracuse, so I'm reminded of that What If every day. Congrats to Melo tho: he seems perfectly happy doing what he's doing, and I love that for him! *If that pick had become Number 1, Memphis would've kept it anyway. It was literally top 1 protected for Detroit. You can go back and see the frustration on Jerry West's face when it came out Number 2.
Knicks Melo was the greatest 2k player ever, bro could not miss. My cousin used to think I had the sliders up he kept picking different teams I was still cooking 😂😂😂
His run at Syracuse was a joy to watch. Whatever one's opinion of him, 'Melo was highly proficient at putting the ball through the hoop. Randomness is always a factor...Dominique Wilkins, Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, sometimes you just don't make it over the hump. Whether by the bad luck of the draft, poor organization, injury...Whatever...💩 happens.
SMOOTH is what I think of when I think Carmelo. I appreciate him for not joining up with Lebron and taking the easy way out. I'll take someone betting on themselves over running for help every time.
Ahhh. I had many debates in barbershops during his career telling ppl that he wasn't a winner, and would only win once he aged and ring chased by latching on to a contender but even that didn't happen. Every NBA generation has players like him: dudes who can go get buckets but offense is the only component of their games they develop and those types don't lead teams to championships. When Phil Jackson was GM of Knicks, the fans and the media wanted him to come down and coach but he didn't and it's my speculation was that he didn't want to coach Melo because he knew Anthony didn't have "it." Hell, George Karl knew too and that's why they butted heads so much.
So in other words an objectively talented player but who doesn’t provide you much without the ball in his hands, and isn’t good enough with the ball in his hands to be a number one option on a title team? Sounds like he has a good career for himself though
Please, please, please play some other ad besides that T-Mobile one. I understand you all have a partnership with them, but surely there is a less annoying T-Mobile ad you can play before every video. Love the videos, but these ads make me want to avoid them.
… if he had told La La to wait until he was a free agent, he would have joined a Knicks team with a solid foundation, instead he just had to go mid season and as a result the Knicks traded a ton of their depth and picks to make it impossible for the Knicks to make ECF… he is the ultimate great player on a crappy team ever…
Yeah, I am sure Melo still thinks about this. Had he just waited until the end of the season, the Knicks wouldn't have had to gut their roster to get him...He also wouldn't have been dragged so publicly, forcing a trade if he had just waited. And, in that scenario, the Knicks could have been a formidable player in the East.
I think part of it was also the Knicks being paranoid that the Nets would swoop in and steal him. Considering they had the assets to get it done and we're about to move to Brooklyn, they probably didn't want to risk Melo staying with the Nets.
Mostly I blame the nuggets(Karl) and the NY organization(Dolan)… Knicks had a shot against the Celtics a couple times, didn’t have the man power. Didn’t Amari cut his hand up 1 year? Crazy times.
You needed to talk more about that WCF and the nuggets going to the playoffs 10 out of 11 years in the George Karl era and the that WCF was the ONLY time they didn’t lose in the first round. He had teammates such as, Chauncey Billups, Allen Iverson, and other pieces that were consistent in Denver and played with Melo but he couldn’t win in the post season. He never played defense, demanded a trade and still was just… Mid.
I think a lot about those Nuggets teams...and it was a little unfair to them when Seth said Melo had no help there...They had some good Rosters...AI, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, and then flipping AI for Chauncey, Nene, Arron Afflalo...Those teams were decent, but never achieved squaddosh...Part of it was because the West was just so loaded back then....and what's the other reason? (I genuinely don't know, and am asking)
@@elliemyers6435 Melo's attitude. Billups said in an interview that Melo was happy when he scores 35 even when they lost and unhappy when he scores 20 then win. That's not really a winner mentality.
@@sakamoto8354 Yep. A lot of that kind of chatter about him is out there, ESPECIALLY early in his career. I do think that attitude improved as he got older, but he definitely had some "I'm cool as long as I get mine" in him.
Melo was nothing more than a me 1st player who only cared about his stats and his money. He was nicknamed black hole because passing him the ball meant ya never saw it again. Terrible passer, awful on defense, bad rebounder for being 6'7, and he became a whiny entitled asshat when he wouldn't come off the bench. Idk how 22, 6, and 3 46/31/80 shooting splits who made 1 conference finals is considered a legend.
I've always thought that Melo getting drafted by the Pistons is the biggest What If in NBA history. All those vets, who played defense, with Larry Brown and Rick Carlisle as coaches.....Yeah. This guy would have been playing some defense, and the PIstons window of contention would have been extended by years.
@@fortynights1513 Wade would have been a better fit. But I'm just saying Melo because of what was known at the time. Tayshaun Prince was a complete surprise for the Pistons who went from being an unproven rookie to a clutch small forward who was a perfect fit for them. Wade would have slotted in perfect with Tayshaun and I agree, would have been the better fit. But at the time, the consensus was that Melo was the second best player in the draft and Wade ended up being the steal of the draft that year. Even I didn't know that Wade was going to be as good as he was until I saw him dropping clutch shots in the playoffs. The benefit of hindsight...Wade over Melo all day.
I'm not a big 'Melo fan, but when I think of him anymore, it's in a Team USA fashion. Yeah he faltered in the NBA, but he won an NCAA title and is one of the best Team USA members of all time. Dude has no reason to hang his head at the "Pure Scorer" tag.
10:56-11:04 thank you for acknowledging this little bit that everyone seems to forget about with regards to the Melo trade. And it wasn't like the Nets were nowhere near a trade, they came dangerously close to one. It was eerily similar to the IRL trade, and it included Detroit sending Rip Hamilton out to join Melo and Billups in New Jersey.
Melo at power forward was such a cool experiment, but I think he knew it was going to take a year or two off the backend of his career and he'd rather keep that longevity.
James Worthy is way better basketball player than Melo. Just look at Worthys fg% during the playoffs as a SF and had a better Points per game average better in the playoffs as well. Worthy played when the paint was congested due to lack of 3 point quality shooters.
@@jdmr1c3ing His scoring on that Piston team, with Larry Brown and Rick Carlisle teaching him to play defense.....Such a loss to basketball fans in general. That Piston team is underrated. They were already a great team without Melo. Even without Melo, that team deserves more respect.
So many kids these days and nerds disrespect Melo like he’s not one of the greatest basketball players ever and one of the best scorers ever. One of one skillset and top 10 in scoring and at his position all time. Truly a HOF and top 30 player of all time at least. Thank you for this
the nuggets are a bad franchise historically. Jokic, English, Issel, Bobby Jones, Iverson, Billups, David Thompson and Mutumbo were/are better players than him. he barely makes the nuggets all time top 10 and his lack of effort and ability on defense was always a huge liability. settle down with this top 10 nonsense. If you can't name 10 scorers better than Melo, you don't watch much basketball. go watch some Adrian Dantley or Bernard King highlights if you want to see a better version of Melo.
Larry Brown didn't play Melo or any young players during the Olympics later on so this idea that being drafted by DET was gonna help his career is funny 😂
Larry held him back big time his rookie season and personal problems didn't help. Even Sheed said himself on his podcast Larry killed his confidence, because he hated rookies. Hell even Mehmet Okur in his second year in 04 was pushed back for Elden Campbell and Larry didn't like how many jumpers Memo was taking and wanted him to post up which wasn't Okurs strength. He was a sharpshooter
Carmelo Anthony was unquestionably a dominant scorer in his prime. When the New York Knicks traded for Carmelo Anthony in 2011, fans believed Melo would bring a championship to the city, and revitalize Knicks basketball. Three things went wrong for Melo’s time with the Knicks. 1. He forced the Nuggets to trade him at the deadline so the Knicks had to give up a bunch of assets to get him when he could’ve signed with New York in the offseason and play with all those assets they had surrendered to Denver 2. He couldn’t get along with Jeremy Lin. If he had a smaller ego, I genuinely believe they could’ve became a competitive team for a couple seasons 3. He signed a giant contract with the Knicks which handicapped the Knicks’ spending power
2 is pure delusion Jeremy Lin was not a threat in the NBA especially after leaving NY. And still no proof Melo and Lin didn't get along. 3 is also delusion considering all superstars get max contracts. He deserved that. Having 5 coaches in 7 years and over 40 different teammates is a recipe for disaster. The Knicks are completely incompetent. The minute they broke up the Knickstape team it was over for a championship

Wish I could've gotten a Pistons jersey with his name on it but it never came to pass. C'est la vie and all that.
No other NBA in history truly capture the difference between the individual skill of getting a ball into the hoop, and the actual impact of impacting a 5v5 match.
He made it that's all that counts 💯💯💪💪
I'm not sure if the Pistons win anymore rings if they draft Melo. Reason being is, they probably get off to a good start and don't trade for Rasheed. The main reason they won a ring and almost won another was the Rasheed trade.
Well the thing is, when you change one circumstance all the circumstances behind that one change as well. We can pretty much say it was a gaurunteed ring season ahead.
I like everyone on the team (the new people are great!), but I'm always most pleased when I hear Seth's tenor hit.
He could have signed with NY as a free agent and played on a really good roster. But he wanted that extra money from resigning with the same team so he forced the Knicks to trade their good depth for him.
This is what I remember most from his career
My favorite player of all time! Definitely one of the best scorers ever. His legacy is in tact
Top 3
I feel as time goes by, people will say Carmelo Anthony was underrated legend because of his stats without any context to his actual career. I think he’s overrated
Melo will always be remembered as overrated, dishonest, money grabber, selfish, lack of leadership skills, lack of defensive skills, not hustling, giving up easily once he got his 30 points, associating himself with gangsters, linsanity killer and being bitter as a retired basketball player.
Just in time for my lunch break. Thank you!

Or we can call them arrogant
his career is still incomplete when compared to his contemporaries
Fascinating, GOAT channel
Much like Dominique Wilkins or Tracy McGrady, Melo is one of those dudes that never won anything because he didn't understand the basic concept of team sport, not to mention the ego. To this day he probably says that he did nothing wrong.
Melo was like Oprah the way he was giving everybody buckets
I just got into basketball when Syracuse won the Natty. I remember watching Melo play and thinking “I’m going to be a fan of whoever drafted that guy” and boom, I was a Nuggets fan for quite some time, until I moved to Philly and the Sixers stole my heart. I will always have a special place in my heart for Carmelo, I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he’s always deserved
Wish he joined D Rose when he had the chance
Yeah Melo, Rose, and Butler would’ve been crazy to see.
@@GOODMuzikBoiButler would have hated Melo. Why would It be any different then his relationship with KAT and Wiggins
Wasn’t DRose injured?
Melo's such a "What If" for Memphis Grizzlies fans like me:
1.) the Pistons actually drafted Darko with our 2003 pick. If we'd kept that pick, we could've gotten Melo.*
2.) We always wanted him in the Grit n Grind days, when everyone was defending and only Mike Conley was scoring.
You can go back and see the frustration on Jerry West's face when it came out Number 2.
video is still showing ads and i already know that this is THE Melo video i’ve been waiting for. Legend!
I'll take someone betting on themselves over running for help every time.
yeah running for help is the reason this is the type of talk we have to have about melo because he didnt run for help he should have
melo teamed up with LBJ and who will be the 4
Love Melo, he was pretty misunderstood as a player and always seemed like a smart and kind guy
Basketball capital of the world. So proud of the athletics program at large
I think Matt Ryan deserves one of these. Love the vids guys. Best sports media outlet there is ❤

He made the knicks make that trade?😂
She wanted to chase that putrid acting career of hers
One of my favorite players of all time, one of the hardest players to go against in NBA 2K
Mostly I blame the nuggets(Karl) and the NY organization(Dolan)… Knicks had a shot against the Celtics a couple times, didn’t have the man power.
Didn’t Amari cut his hand up 1 year? Crazy times.
He may have never won a title, but he did have a cameo in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, so it's pretty much a wash
I miss seeing Melo in the league. One of the best scorers ever. Hopefully we see one of his sons play in the future 🙏🏽
Another great video!! Best sports story channel out there
Seth the GOAT!!!

Always felt like this series was Taylor made for a Melo episode. Glad to see him getting covered
My 2nd favorite player ever man wish he was able to get that ring I'll miss Melo
Melo would’ve been a great pick, but I’d like to have seen Wade on that team as a sixth man
@@fortynights1513 Wade would have been a better fit.
The fact that Melo carried that Nuggets team to the playoffs in year 1 speaks volumes, and he definitely had a serious case for rookie of the year.
Amazing content as usual
No melo slander will be accepted
Great video Seth killed ot
I'm not a big 'Melo fan, but when I think of him anymore, it's in a Team USA fashion. Yeah he faltered in the NBA, but he won an NCAA title and is one of the best Team USA members of all time. Dude has no reason to hang his head at the "Pure Scorer" tag.
This could be the best title for a RUclips video I’ve ever seen
As a KU fan, it always hurts being reminded how badly Melo torched us in the NCAA championship game.
Melo's game was made for international hoops and it's gameflow, KD is the only person I can think of whose game applies better.
Melo was the real rookie of the year in 2004
Once I see anything related to the Knicks I know it's a must click seth video
One of the best individual basketball players ever. it's a pity basketball is a team sport, not an individual sport.
All of the above
Melo at power forward was such a cool experiment, but I think he knew it was going to take a year or two off the backend of his career and he'd rather keep that longevity.
My guy Melo. So smooth
I got Melo 43rd all time, he could have been higher but top 50 is no joke, that is some fantastic company
James Worthy is way better basketball player than Melo. Just look at Worthys fg% during the playoffs as a SF and had a better Points per game average better in the playoffs as well. Worthy played when the paint was congested due to lack of 3 point quality shooters.
Could you imagine Melo on the Pistons omg
Biggest what if in NBA history.
Instant ring and plays defense more often assuming he gets along with coaching staff. Pistons needed scoring too
@@jdmr1c3ing His scoring on that Piston team, with Larry Brown and Rick Carlisle teaching him to play defense.....Such a loss to basketball fans in general. That Piston team is underrated. They were already a great team without Melo. Even without Melo, that team deserves more respect.

Money was always more important then winning
I’m fortunate to have seen MJ, AI & Melo during my lifetime
Will always be the real Melo Lamelo can have BBB
melo buried Linsanity so he could score 30ppg on a losing team
@@inimitableminimalist you named iverson in nuggets players over Melo please stfu and never respond to me ever again clown
@e1028 Nobody talks about them drafting Tayshaun the year before 😂 with the defensive minded coach that Larry was he was not gonna play Melo over him
Another great video Thanks
No Melo slander will be tolerated. Top scorer of all time
Carmelo Anthony was unquestionably a dominant scorer in his prime.
When the New York Knicks traded for Carmelo Anthony in 2011, fans believed Melo would bring a championship to the city, and revitalize Knicks basketball.
Three things went wrong for Melo’s time with the Knicks.
1. He forced the Nuggets to trade him at the deadline so the Knicks had to give up a bunch of assets to get him when he could’ve signed with New York in the offseason and play with all those assets they had surrendered to Denver
2. He couldn’t get along with Jeremy Lin. If he had a smaller ego, I genuinely believe they could’ve became a competitive team for a couple seasons
What players would have been on the team if he hadn’t forced the trade?
1 thats new yorks fault 🤷🏽♂️cant blame him for a organization making a dumb move
As a Denver fan, Melo is one of the goats
