Nilagyan namin ng bubungan na transparent para hindi masyadong nababasa yung floor. Nataniman ko din ng pechay, okra at talong sa paso at ampalaya. Ngayon pina-upahan na namin yung bahay at balak namin maglagay ng 2nd floor na paupahahan na din. Kaya sulit po.

Hello Arch Ed. After we experienced Yolanda na naubos ang roofing system ng school, we decided na roof deck na ang mga susunod na buildings. Right now we have three buildings na naka roofdeck na and so far wala kaming problema after 9 years. Yung diniscuss mo about maintenance cost can be prevented if applied properly. We considered the following factors in the proper application. 1. The roofdeck should be supported by steeldeck to prevent sagging. 2. Pouring of concrete should be monolithic to prevent cracks. 3. The concrete should have waterproofing additive. 4. The concrete should be crowned to prevent water ponding. With enough drains 5. Moisture should be maintained on the concrete slab for the first week after pouring 6. The roof deck should extend outside the floor beneath it, meaning it should be wider than the floor below so that whenever there is leak at the gutter, it will just be outside the overhang. I think the cost of having color roof as against roof deck is more or less the same but it is already TYPHOON PROOF.
As of the present, due to climate change roofs should be made of roof decks. Every yr. strong typhoons will be unavoided. Typhoon will always be a nerve wrecking threat during rainy season. We in Metro Mla and other nearest provinces in Luzon have not yet experienced devastatating typhoon like what Yolanda and Odette brought to Visayas and other parts of the country.I am for roof deck in order to protect us during strong typhoon. Just make sure all necessary steps and precautions in making roof decks are followed.

Sa amin roofdeck Sahara lang nilagay at kinapalan ang patong na semento. At sa katagalan nilulumot siya dahil hindi tinatanggal mga dahon na nahuhulog sa bubong hanggan sa mabulok at kumapal. Kaya parang mas nakatulong kung hayaan lang na may lumot sa roofdeck kasi yon ang parang panangga para hindi pasukin ng tubig ang maliliit na butas ng bubong.

Grabe maintenance. Pag umulan, Hindi mo magamit. Pag umaraw naman mainit. Veranda looks more practical. Simple 1 x 4 meters will do for me. Salamat uli.

Nagagawa din po ang roof deck ng perfect basta maayos lang ang preparation ...unang una yung mga materyales na gagamitin...maayos na cleve..kung malaki ang area mag dagdag ng downspot ...maayos na timpla ng buhangin at semento at matubig na yan at mas matapang na semento...ang kapal.ng slab at least 4 inches ...at maraming nabibili na pang waterproofing ng materyales ..jbat ibang klase yan...at maayos na pag susupervise ng team leader o ng foreman...magagawa po yan ng perfect ... kailangan lang po wag mapabayaan habang pinatitigas ang semento binubuli ng binubuli para maiwasan ang crack sa ibabaw ng slab. Ito yong nangyari sa 1st house kong nabili at pinagawan ko nang roofdeck at pina tiles din.. Pero 1yr later tumagas tubig ng ulan grabe sa kwarto ng masterbedroom namin. At yon kinuha yong mga tiles den nagpa waterproof ulit. Pero sa isang taon limang beses ako nagpaparepair..super gastos talaga at na discourage ako sa bahay kasi daming gastosan lage sa roofdeck. Kaya binenta ko nalang yong bahay at bumili nalang ng bago.. kaya sakin di na ako mag roofdeck kondi mag balcony nalang..salamat architecht.

if ever ho bang tumulo ang roofdeck dahil matagal na, puede kayang latagan ng lenoleum basta siguruhin lang na nakawaterproof tape ang mga pinagdugtungan, pati mga gilid at nakalabas ang mga drain ng maayos may tape sa paligid? Kasi kung bububungan may ampiyas din sa gilid. kung nakaleneleum parang tiles din yon, yon nga lang darating ang time na papalitan din kung sira na. or puede ho bang tiles na lang ang pintahan ng waterproofing para hindi na bakbakin.
Hello Architect Ed. I watched your show on waterproofing the deck last night. It is a very time because we will soon enter a contract with an architect to repair the leaks coming from our roof terrace. I am a Filipina now living in Mexico. We have 4 terraces altogether, the 4 being a roof terrace. In the past 2 yrs we have noticed leaks in at least 4 different areas coming from the roof, the worst one was in the master’s bedroom, a big chunk of the ceiling fell last August. Our roof is all waterproofed. The deck is also waterproofed and some tiles are laid on top of it. Our Arq contractor suggested that he will put “acrylic Elaston” (name in Mexico) on the top and and all sides of the 4 parapets. He also said that instead of removing the tiles from the deck, he will just lay on it waterproofing materials. We very seldom go to the roof deck (you are absolutely right as to whether or not a roof deck is necessary. Looking back, I think it was a mistake to have a deck on the roof. The Size of the roof deck is 96.11 sqm. Also there are 2 sides of the roof (east and north where there are little visible cracks on the waterproofing materials. Arq recommend stripping old waterproofing materials and replaced with a new one. Size is 151.36 sqm. Thankfully the roof on the west and south is ok. My question for you is: is his proposal of laying waterproofing materials over the existing tiles the right way to do it? OR does he need to remove the tiles and install waterproofing materials and leave it just like that, no re installation of tiles. I like your idea of putting tiny stones (rubbles?)on top of the waterproofing, because it is easy to locate future leaks. Here in our place Oaxaca, Mexico, the sun shines very Intensely during the summer months, we live very far away from the coast. The weather is very dry and we are more or less 5000ft above sea level. Thank you very much in advance for your rapid reply. It will help us a lot in deciding whether or not we should agree with all of Architect’s(Arquitecto inSpanish)proposals. Yes po. Concrete po kasi ay porous material po iyan kaya darating talaga ang time na may susuot na water. Kung ita-tiles using good quality watetproofing, mas matagal po ang lifespan pero hindi pa rin naman po iyan permanent. Kaai concrete is prone to cracking. Microscopic crack sapat na para sa tubig na pumasok.

Ito yong nangyari sa 1st house kong nabili at pinagawan ko nang roofdeck at pina tiles din.. Pero 1yr later tumagas tubig ng ulan grabe sa kwarto ng masterbedroom namin. At yon kinuha yong mga tiles den nagpa waterproof ulit. Pero sa isang taon limang beses ako nagpaparepair..super gastos talaga at na discourage ako sa bahay kasi daming gastosan lage sa roofdeck. Kaya binenta ko nalang yong bahay at bumili nalang ng bago.. kaya sakin di na ako mag roofdeck kondi mag balcony nalang..salamat architecht.

if ever ho bang tumulo ang roofdeck dahil matagal na, puede kayang latagan ng lenoleum basta siguruhin lang na nakawaterproof tape ang mga pinagdugtungan, pati mga gilid at nakalabas ang mga drain ng maayos may tape sa paligid? Kasi kung bububungan may ampiyas din sa gilid. kung nakaleneleum parang tiles din yon, yon nga lang darating ang time na papalitan din kung sira na. or puede ho bang tiles na lang ang pintahan ng waterproofing para hindi na bakbakin.

Hello Architect Ed. I watched your show on waterproofing the deck last night. It is a very time because we will soon enter a contract with an architect to repair the leaks coming from our roof terrace. I am a Filipina now living in Mexico. We have 4 terraces altogether, the 4 being a roof terrace. In the past 2 yrs we have noticed leaks in at least 4 different areas coming from the roof, the worst one was in the master’s bedroom, a big chunk of the ceiling fell last August. Our roof is all waterproofed. The deck is also waterproofed and some tiles are laid on top of it. Our Arq contractor suggested that he will put “acrylic Elaston” (name in Mexico) on the top and and all sides of the 4 parapets. He also said that instead of removing the tiles from the deck, he will just lay on it waterproofing materials. We very seldom go to the roof deck (you are absolutely right as to whether or not a roof deck is necessary. Looking back, I think it was a mistake to have a deck on the roof. The Size of the roof deck is 96.11 sqm. Also there are 2 sides of the roof (east and north where there are little visible cracks on the waterproofing materials. Arq recommend stripping old waterproofing materials and replaced with a new one. Size is 151.36 sqm. Thankfully the roof on the west and south is ok. My question for you is: is his proposal of laying waterproofing materials over the existing tiles the right way to do it? OR does he need to remove the tiles and install waterproofing materials and leave it just like that, no re installation of tiles. I like your idea of putting tiny stones (rubbles?)on top of the waterproofing, because it is easy to locate future leaks. Here in our place Oaxaca, Mexico, the sun shines very Intensely during the summer months, we live very far away from the coast. The weather is very dry and we are more or less 5000ft above sea level. Thank you very much in advance for your rapid reply. It will help us a lot in deciding whether or not we should agree with all of Architect’s(Arquitecto inSpanish)proposals. Kami po ay may bahay sa ibabaw ng bondok at parating linilipad ng bagyo yong bobong 2x na po kaya pinagawa kong concret boong roof para dina lilipad. Pinalagyan ko slope ulit e tomotolo parin. Now ang problima ko po is may tolo every where pa din kaya papalagyan ko ulit roof.

Kpag ba may building permit na at may naaprubahang house plan project mula sa munisipyo ay pwede ng magpagawa ng bahay kahit wala ng engineer basta may foreman na mga kasamang skilled sa paggawa ng simpleng bahay ? of course wwith your blog house plans and advices and guidance kung paano maging matibay at makatipid at kung anong dapat gawin.

Question po, tama po ba na nag wewear off ang waterproofing, kahit gaano kaganda ang pagkaka gawa? And if so, meaning pag naka tiles cya, 100% sure po over time na need bakbakin para iwaterproof uli?
Yes po. Concrete po kasi ay porous material po iyan kaya darating talaga ang time na may susuot na water. Kung ita-tiles using good quality watetproofing, mas matagal po ang lifespan pero hindi pa rin naman po iyan permanent. Kaai concrete is prone to cracking. Microscopic crack sapat na para sa tubig na pumasok.
