    *Nice reel so far **enjoyable.fishing** recommend used it for about an hour after getting it from Amazon and functioned flawlessly. Very smooth retrieve and the anti reverse is perfect. Feels like a reel that would be double the price.*

    I've never done this before. The video is great. Two questions/comments others mentioned that I'd like to clarify further: 1) What about oiling the line roller? 2) What did that comment mean about "indexing the gears"? Thanks very much!

    Extremely pleased that you posted this video; however, as others have commented, oil is no substitute for grease. In addition, it is not suggested to insert oil into the body of the reel. There is grease inside which would thin out. Either leave it alone or open it, use a solvent to remove the grease, and then re-grease it. And, last but not least, the most important maintenance to a spinning reel is the drag. The drag washers should be, at the very least, cleaned and lubricated. At most, they should be replaced with carbontec washers and lubricated properly. But, again, I thank you for your video -- it's more than I've done for the fishing community.

    Great video thanks! Do you have anything that shows how to maintain the bail assembly? I have a Stradic 3000FJ with a rough bail mechanism. Thanks again!

    • @AnglingAuthority
      @AnglingAuthority  10 лет назад +1

      Recently Shimano has re-designed the bail on its spinning reels to something that is not durable (in my opinion). Older reels benefit from a solid bail design that needs little to no maintenance. If your bail doesn't flip smoothly, you may have dirt or grime in the mechanism and spring. Taking the bail apart and cleaning/ lubricating will solve this. Just be careful with the bail because on some models the parts are under tension from the spring and may fly out.

    • @brentellis6453
      @brentellis6453 10 лет назад

      AnglingAuthority.com Ya I got dirt/sand the bail assembly the first time out and when I tried to disassemble and clean it, I absolutely can't figure out how to reassemble this spring correctly so make sure that doesn't happen or else you might end up with an expensive desk weight.

    Great video - thanks so much! I have Stratic CI4 and it seized up on me after a saltwater trip. This demo definitely helped and now the rotor spins smoothly - sort of. I stopped the video around 17mins as u mentioned that the rotor should spin smoothly with no noise and that is not the case for me. I think i still hear a little sandy/grindy sound so stopped there to see if there are any tips to get rid of that before continuing. TIA!

      He did not fully disassemble(even though he said he did)... you need to remove gear housing plate(four screws and plastic gold plate thing) to get to the root of your problem which is either the oscillation pawl or main drive gear. spray with brake cleaner and regrease.

    Do you know what would cause the rotor to get stuck after a cast? I have to manually flip bail every time i want to reel in. Its too tight to flip normally. If i set the rotor to spin multiple directions, I can get a bit of momentum to flip it like normal. otherwise its too tight in reel-in-only mode. Do you think this is just something simple that a bit of grease could fix?

  • @bodhizafa7125
    @bodhizafa7125 6 лет назад +1

    In my opinion the tutorial was pretty good all my reels get the side plate removed an 100% Synthetic grease gets applied to all gears inside the body. Just my preference. 1 little drop of oil there doesn't cut it. And you missed maybe the most crucial part of the reel wich is the line roller. Good thing I maintain my reels myself. No affence but big slip up. I have sum inexpensive reels that don't even use a ball bearing there so to me it's a critical lube spot.

    Great Video 5*****Stars and a thumbs up two you my friend, I got a Rapala XI Series Xtreme and the handle is hard moving sometime it like it gets stiff when you flip the bell back and then you reel the handle you got two forces it sometimes but it be ok after a few times do you think it could be the gears....

      I would check and see if there's any corrosion on the gears. If its all clean then I would make sure its lubricated well. If its still not working well, then double check to make sure you have all the parts in correctly. Be thorough, because getting even the smallest part backwards can cause your reel to malfunction.

    Soo essentially the main gear, entire worm gear, a couple bearings just sit inside the body and collect all the grease from the pinion. If you don’t open the sideplate and clean it you’re just building up a stockpile of muddy grease. It’s just a few screws, you could actually not even disassemble it but just clean it out!

    don't neglect the drag washer, extremely important to clean and re-grease it and yes you better index the gears or when reassembled you will get a grind that the thickest grease will not fix.

    do you need to take care of the bail? it sometimes doesn't close all the way and i have to close it by hand. i felt like there might have been dirt in the bail closer joint so i took off the bail and kinda brushed it. Put it back on, problem still not solved, and now it's loose

    What do they call this older model handle type compared to the newer S1 and S2 type?
