I don't live far from where Steve is and I completely understand the sarcasm and banter between, it gets us through the day! Most electricians are not technicians.
Excellent video! 👍 Nice to see someone use there brain and diagnose the issue properly not guessing before throwing the parts bin at the problem and wasting money. Watching with great interest from the UK. Keep up the great work.
FYI you should always make sure your wire nuts cap up so that way moisture can't drip down into the cap and cause rest or corrosion on the contacts of the wires
I know Steve is narrating the video for us - but he reminds me of how I talk out loud to myself when I'm working on something. Drives my wife crazy - I'm downstairs or in the garage working on something, she hears me talking to myself and yells out to find out who I'm talking too! Happy Memorial Day.
Steve your a smart cookie to exactly know what is going on in just a few minutes on the job I wished I lived in your area cause you would be the first person I would call if something went wrong in my house I wouldn't care if you charged 200 an hr because it would be worth the money spent.
It amazes me how your able to find parts in your truck. Not saying your truck is not organized but you have such a large parts inventory. Love the way Molly is excited to see you. You treat her so well. Your the man. Take care my friend.🥰🌹👍🏻🇺🇸
We have 216 First Co units where I work that I take care of. The evap coils leak like crazy. The outside units are through the wall so everything about them is easy to work on. If it wasn't for the leaky evap coils I wouldnt have to mess with them much. They were all installed in 2011 and 2012 when the buildings were built and so far not much as gone wrong with them. I've had to change maybe 5 compressors throughout the years, an occasional fan motor here and there, nothing out if the ordinary. The outdoor coils get dirty fairly quickly but it's nothing a water hose can't handle.
One thing I can tell you. In South Africa you will never ever see loose wires and connectors hanging loose like that on ANY equipment. All wiring has to come off a buss board and every wire had to be neatly run and fixed in place so no wires hang around like a bowl of spaghetti. Also I have NEVER seen a red and a black wire go in and out of a switch. All switched are on the live wire RED in this country.
was in a hit-and-run car accident 2 yrs ago so to give me a chance to type. I'm now just learning how to talk... sorry.. The Florida pool pump motor repair guy approved ! that was good info Steven
That looks like a newer style Rheem condenser. I have one that happens to be from 2016. This makes me think about connecting a 3 amp fuse to my system too! It beats having to replace that transformer when the contactor shorts out. Great idea Steve! Why doesn’t the factory put these fuses in to begin with? They don’t cost that much.
I always used a put the bare ground wire under some kind of screw or stick it through some kind of hole in the metal box, so that it doesn't touch any hot wires.
When you mention the weed wacker hitting the control wires outside I was shaking my head this year they have already hit it twice last year once. Each time I am outside 1 or 2am in the morning splicing wires back together.
Ya think that Steve will ever get a refurrel from that guy again. Accidents happen arc outs and if he has a medical issue, and bring to hot he said f that , STEVE could do it
Was that inspected by Sara? I worry so much with first company units on the low voltage side. I wish they would protect it better. I always love that option of adding a spade connection on R to add the fuse or little popper but I forget. How do we get fist company to change their design.
For someone who who has trouble with his spelling, and who is insulting to his customers (“good enough for this neighborhood”), he certainly knows his HVAC and plumbing!
I an so scared working with electricity now! I was in the Navy and worked on a sonar system that had an 8k power supply (vacuum tubes!) but it didn't bother me then. Too young and stupid! Now I make sure everything is turned off!!!
Question- For the parts you carry buried way down in your cabinet, how do you know what to charge for materials? You keep a record of what they cost you to stock, then mark up by some pct? Also if you install a good part salvaged off an old unit, do you charge customer less than for a new part? Thanks Steve.
Yes, if Steve has a good used part that he installed he will charge less money for it than he would for a brand new one. He's been doing this long enough he knows what the general cost of many parts are.
Steve, how can you arc out a ground wire if there's no short to ground? like it's not a dirty ground, there's no power to it? And then in that case wouldn't that be a problem?
@@davidwark9971 Take a groundwire rub it up against one of the hot screws on the switch and let me know how it feels it will ground out and arc and spark and all that
@@davidwark9971 Steve was saying that the electrician was in there playing with wires and if you noticed the groundwire was extra long all it takes is a brush up against the screw and you got fireworks

People like him are hard to come by and add to that his truck is a library of parts gives great assurance he takes pride in his work and knows what he is doing.

Oh, 42 year Electrician so I don't know who the electrician there was but his trouble shooting skills are shameful and I know quite a few I wouldn't trust to screw in a light bulb, but yours are top notch. I fix my own equipment so when it comes to A/C I watch you as your a straight shooter. I was a Service Tech on restaurant equipment repair for 4 years. Liked video, I had a guy one time have his buddy (who thought he was a tech) change a blower motor. Hooked line voltage wires to the 24v side and smoked the transformer and melted the thermostat. As I was repairing it he said " Jr didn't wire it like that". I said " well Jr's the one that got you in this mess he doesn't know shit". Like you say Steven " it's a shit show mamma"
That extra ground wire was to ground the switch. Looks like it was not screwed on properly and when the election pull the cover off the ground wire just hit one of the live terminals on the switch and that's why it arked.
I know what’s the matter ,you need a Mikita impact to save a few seconds, not so sure about you but the dogs okay, used to have a white Pom and he didn’t like anybody but me

Because they want you to buy more parts, of course.
It’s only a couple dollars more to get a transformer with the built in circuit breaker.
Cuz the factory wants to sell you a new transformer at OEM premium price, that's why.

In the first switch box, why would a white wire be connected to black and red in that wire nut?

no
The bare wire in box is a safety ground to the metal box. But you know that just did not want to hook it back to box so cut it back?
