Well Phil, seems you may not have looked that closely at the amps in Malvern Audio Research. The amplifiers are most certainly not Audion! They are actually manufactured by "Audio Detail" in Malvern Worcestershire...The amp is a Stereo 300B push pull amp with separate twin rectifiers...( The same shape as an Audion maybe) Along with directly heated triode pre amp and a DHT phonostage The name is on every amplifier.. I am also truly surprised at your hearing, maybe as you were is such a rush you did not sit down and listen for very long... The room got at least 4 " best sound" tokens... This is not mass market equipment, but high end specialist amplification...somewhat different from your normal market place I feel... The Universums made by hORNS in Poland, are by reputation, some of the best horns around.. having won best sound many times at this show in the past! Please take more time to look and listen next time!!!
The room with the red horn speakers you couldn't name was Audio Detail from Malvern The speakers are hOrns Universums I think the amplifier was a 300b stereo push pull Plus the rest of the preamp and phono stage was their own design
Hi Philip, Thanks for this - I had hoped to go on Saturday, but couldn't make it - good to have your assessment of things. You were there in an off duty capacity, but as a RUclips sensation, you'll never make it undercover😉👍👍
In my eyes (or ears) the NEAT speakers were definitely the best, they sounded amazing. The Pilare One Speaker kit from Audite Acoustics were something I've not seen/heard before, not sure on a small Full range speaker . Great video as always
Another great video Phil, have you anymore view for a part 2.? Couple of things i heard that were interesting, the Diptyque Planar Speakers, a nice valve amp at Audio Counsel the Leban, speakers at Audio Works Funky... and the Klipsch speakers were the Cornwalls i think which the Audiophiliac Steve Guttenberg youtuber from the USA uses in his home system, agree with you sounded like a home PA.
i used to go to the heathrow hifi shows with my dad and i found each room i went into the music was virtually the same jazz and acoustic music , i have a partington minim hifi rack and compared to my old rack my partington minim has given my system a new lease of life i noticed the bass has tightened up and more dynamic
Thanks for this, I think Neat used Atoll amplification for this show. I've tried tried the Ophidian mojo speakers and they produced an awesome soundstage for their size
Really enjoyed that one phil thanks for showing it. Funny linn wernt there? Love all your videos. Think its your voice. And your lnteresting comments !! Look forward to next episode rave on.
Analogue Planet (Michael Fremer) visits the shows Worldwide ... He has to mute certain parts of the sound sometimes ... but generally, He has no problems with faint background audio.
Love your output Phil and I'm totally in agreement with you as to why rigs sound so bad at hi-fi shows and also I'm not into the B&W sound at all, it leaves me cold. Ditto with Hegel !
You could definitely tell the treated rooms! Just have to push past it and take what you can from it. Lots of boomy bass from speakers in too small a room. Have learnt to not read too much into it! As in the past I have found speaker sound harsh one year and superb the next! Some speakers just sound good either way amphion has been one of those for me. I enjoyed the demo of the Sarum speakers, Kef is always, always one of if not the best sounding room for me. And I was really impressed with the perlisten speakers in Karma AV's room!
Horns and triodes aren't for everyone. They're definitely my "bag", but if you're used to conventional systems, they're very different indeed. Mark's (Audio Detail) amplifiers are superb, but I'm not a fan of the Universums (the big red horns) either, preferring their Symphony and Mummy models.
Totally agree Phil ... Hi Fi shows are definitely not the place to assess the quality of the sound (unless the manufacturer happens to have an exceptional room) ... unlikely mostly !
Was great to see you at the show Phil, was far too star struck to come say hello. Did you find the choices of music in each room being either slow acoustic or big band stuff quite repetitive eventually?
Audio shows are a waste of time, almost impossible to listen as people want to talk garbage over the music. Hardly anybody that appreciates music, they all want talk about their tenuous knowledge of electronics. Also nothing there sounded impressive. There was one room with Martin logans that sounded awful, they had no idea how to set them up.
Opinions? Unfortunately some are more qualified than others, eg amps looked like Audion? Why because they use tubes? If you profess to be an "expert" or a "dealer" by simply asking questions you can find answers. A typical box shifter with zero flair in his portfolio. Shocking.
@@scottchegg1209 you are so far up your own backside it’s is a wonder that you can hear anything at all! Why watch this channel if you have such a low opinion of Phil?
Very pleasant watch Phil, you make your viewers feel like you are talking to us directly as though we are one of your friends.

Hi Phil. For info... The Kudos speaker at the show was the Titan 707.
The room with the red horn speakers you couldn't name was Audio Detail from Malvern
The speakers are hOrns Universums
I think the amplifier was a 300b stereo push pull

Liked this format! You have a great talent of voicing your opinion without offending people on products 👍
Many thanks for the quick review Phil as I was not able to attend.

Dan D’Agustino didn’t design the preamps/amps that bear his name. He’s one of the shadiest figures in high end audio.

Good stuff. As an Atacama user, the new racks look very interesting.
I too was knocked out by the Neat speakers. The room with the huge ATCs was occupied by Chasing The Dragon. A record label iirc.

I was there Saturday afternoon. Place was rammed. Going to be a big spike in covid round Holmes Chapel!
Dont be such an ignorant 🐏
couldnt believe the room they put those klipsch cornwalls in, it really did sound awful, i still haven't heard klipsch properly.
I made a point of thanking the main exhibitors for their efforts… After all its free!

At 20:10 Ophidian launched the new Voodoo this month room sounded excellent and they deserve the HiFi choice 5* review
Great video again, i was afraid you would’nt comment on the show.

The binaural recordings look like it might have been Mr. Valentine and his Chasing The Dragon company?
Are you going to the show this year?
Was great to see you at the show Phil, was far too star struck to come say hello. Did you find the choices of music in each room being either slow acoustic or big band stuff quite repetitive eventually?
Get a room then!
Cornwall
Dough Brady made a good effort..👍
Come on Phil have a go… Missed you on both days and it’s turned out to be a good show…
Hi Phil, where is the NVA room?
What music what used for the demos, was there a particularly popular one?
Sorry if it was me ruining the video with the call 😂
why don't you start selling vandersteen speakers you know anybody in the UK
Good show but a whole floor not accessible for disabled, very annoying.
Looks like it is a nice show!
Not so over the top pretentious as some can be.

Yet 100% true!
@@scottchegg1209 sorry I totally disagree.
