Wanted to thank you for sharing your insights on painting your Tzolk'in gears. I broke down and finally painted mine over the weekend and love the results. Thank you for your tips and tricks and be willing to share what you have learned through experience.
Looks fantastic! Color choices are great. Really good idea to have some varied/mixed content on the videos. Feels nice to have both games and games related topics in one place.
Thanks Shawn! We weren't planning to do this video but posted a photo on Facebook and got lots of questions so thought to put this together. Certainly more comfortable talking about games than painting!! :D
Thank you for the feedback Jonas! I wasn't intending to do this actually but a few people asked for how I painted it so I pieced together the footage!! What are you working on? :)
@@ThinkerThemerthe last figures I painted were for Mice and Mystics. The desire to paint comes and goes. Maybe the cold days will bring it back. What are some figures you painted? I've seen Bloodrage minis...
@@jonaskissling8343 yes I started painting in our winter and it certainly makes the days go quickly. The Mice and Mystics minis are so cool! ...yes I am very very slowly working my way through Blood Rage and then I have Rising Sun. The only other game piece I've done is the Tekenu obelisk and before that I was just practising on other minis before I was brave enough to touch our precious games! I also have the Anachrony mechs waiting for me but NMM is an elusive skill I can't quite master yet... 😅
@@ThinkerThemer oh my! NMM is intimidating! If you dont know his chanel already, you should check out Sorastro here on youtube. He does a great job in explaining things (f.ex. NMM), the video quality is superb and he is using his own music for the vids. Bur be carefull, his voice is hypnotic! :-D I completely understand you, I'm always scared to put color on my board game minis 😱
@@ThinkerThemer Hmmm.. Yes, definitely. I feel the same way about Gloomhaven actually. I haven't tried Tzolkin yet, or any T game for that matter! I'm having a hard time deciding between Tekhenu and Teotihuacan - which do you think has the more replayability/lasting appeal? I'm leaning Teotihuacan due to the expansion adding assymetric player powers, which is my jam.
@@kennyv.2189 we did love Tekhenu but if we had to buy one it would 100% be Teotihuacan. It is super unique with the dice placement / evolution and it comes together a bit better than Tekhenu. Having said that though, we really like Tekhenu as 2 player but tend to play Teo with 3 or 4.
@@ThinkerThemer Have you had a chance to try Tawantinsuyu yet? I'm just watching JonGetsGames video on it now, looks great! I'd love to hear both of your takes on this game when you get a chance to play it, especially in regard to the T games and how it ranks with them. I'm certainly leaning Teotihuacan, but this is the same price and looks like a lot of juicy decisions to make all game!
Looks awesome!! I am currently thinking of gold colors, such as retributor armor and liberator gold mixed with a smaragd green. What do you think? are the gold colors too thick for the fine details?
Ooo they could be a little thick... plus I think gold always goes better with a brown undercoat so could be a bit tricky!! I think if you have a small enough brush and a lot of patience 😅 Thanks for the kind words Mike!
Nice! I've started getting stuff together to paint my set. Great to see how someone else approached it. Beautiful end product! How do you store it all?
Did the gears mesh smoothly after painting? I did a set of gears for a friend and found I pretty much had to sand the paint back off the gears where they contact each other for them to rotate properly. Going to do my own game now that I have some inserts for the centers of the gears (the stickers just look wrong once the gears are painted).
Hi Bruce! I haven't had any trouble turning them but it was a fairly light coat and only of primer rather than paint so maybe that helped? I also made sure not to paint in the centre hole so it could turn there too (and you don't see it anyway). You're a good friend to do it for someone else!!! Enjoy painting your set ☺
Wow that looks great! Do you guys run a discord or patreon? I had to move out to the countryside with my mom after my father passing from suicide. I’m looking for an online community to play games with and you ladies have great taste in games so I would imagine your community does too.
Hi Shawn, we are very sorry to hear of your father's passing. It's nice that you're able to be there for your mom. We do have a small but lovely community on discord. It's linked to youtube via RUclips channel memberships (similar to patreon). If you join and then link your discord to your youtube (via setting - connections) it automatically appears. Thanks for asking!
I've considered painting my cogs as well but not sure how to start. The cogs in my version are pretty much permanently attached to the board so I would need to 'break' them to start the process. That's OK I guess but the problem then is reattaching them when the job is finished. And so, I have never taken the plunge.
Wow. Super impressed. I've never painted, but this is a big motivation to start.
You can definitely do it!!! One lockdown hobby I will not be giving up...

@@ThinkerThemer LOL, the best i could do would be a "How NOT to Paint" video. You did a nice job with this.
@@shawnmincer8231 hahaha I'm sure that is not true... like I said, if I can do it literally anyone can lol. 😊
Love Tzolk'in, and beautiful work on the gears!
Thank you Dan!! Have you painted yours?

Gorgeous work! Thank you for sharing your tips 😀
Are you going to start painting??? I'll pack them in the island supplies

Great job!

Thank you Herr!!! Appreciate you taking the time to comment 😊

Where can i get those 3d printing buildings?
I found the STL file online and printed them myself but I think if you google it there is a service that can print them for you...
Wow, can I send you mine to paint? I never have such patience haha
Hahaha once was enough! But you can do it!
Hey Amy is it possible to remove the gears to paint if they are already attached to the board? Or did you paint them when they were attached? Thanks!
