    Yeah, as you can see half the personal watercraft is missing due to a wreck - is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well it's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just personal preference to have the whole watercraft intact.

    Hi there fiero880, i love this video. I'll say it again, i really appreciate your attention to detail brother. for anyone buying a PWC for the first time watching this video could have the potential to save someone doing their ass of all their hard earned coin. You have done a invaluable service you lovely young man. the common sense approach doesn't always prevail when having life experience in these areas does every time!!!. 2 stroke engines are a very touchy and influential beast and getting to know them is a great start to taming them and unleashing their potential. i agree 100% with you on getting rid of the oil injection tank and running a good quality premix just like on 2 stroke bikes when the cable gets stretched and too much oil or not enough get to the engine. thanks for giving fiero880. it feels nice to give, and i know you are a family man yourself so this is almost automatic for you. I'm really enjoying getting to know you personally more and more, through these great videos you have done. i know you have done these years ago but i wanted to start at the start. thanks buddy for the opportunity to learn new things too, your a very talented man. your son has a great mentor. take care, Ben.

    One thing i look at that you didn't mention is the pump looking for scaring or broken blades on impeller and on pump, clearance, and free movement of steering.

  • @chimeranzl9147

    very very true about the oil pump. i've just fully rebuilt my seadoo gtx ski and whilst the oil pump is still working, i'm not willing to risk the $$$ if it does go. i'll be disconnecting the oil pump and pre-mixing with my fuel.

  • @fiero880
    @fiero880  11 лет назад

    That is correct. The Yamaha's do not have the problem as much as some of the other brands.

  • @fiero880
    @fiero880  11 лет назад +2

    Doing a compression check will be the deciding factor. It's the oil injection pumps and or dirty carbs IMO that kill these engines. Otherwise Yamaha is my personal pick due to how well their pwc's are built.

    She leaks and burns oil, is that a bad thing? Not necessarily, just means it leaks and burns oil. Fires right up and best part of these water crafts is that you just don’t know when the motor will blow. I love the enthusiasm!

    Someone I know got burned buying a used watercraft! It seemed to run okay when they started it on the trailer, but then when they put it in the water after they bought it, it was hard to start and had hardly any power.
    It turns out one of the cylinders in the engine had low compression. The engine probably needed to be rebuilt.
    I would only buy a used one from a reputable dealer or from someone you know well.

  • @ryantoomey611
    @ryantoomey611 6 лет назад

    As for the oil pump failing, you can just switch to premix and that worry is gone! My dad's Seadoo has the oil injection blocked off and he just runs pre-mix for this precise reason.

    Normally you well run into either rental ski or personal ski
    Rentals usually for 500 + and some 1,000 +
    The 4 stroke engines have proved to be extremely reliable
    But it really comes down to how well the ski was maintained. I've seen 2 stroke skis blow at 60 hours. It only takes an incorrect storing of a ski, bad fuel, faulty oil pump, not flushing a salt water ski. There are so many things that can cause a faulty engine. Not just the total hours.

  • @OcarinaN64
    @OcarinaN64 6 лет назад

    If you aren’t mechanically inclined; stay away from 2-strokes, especially older ones. They’re a ton of fun but so many people forget to put oil in them or don’t winterized them and it just causes so many problems down the line.
    You need to check the pump as well. I got my GTX $200 because the prop and most of the pump veins were very poor condition. The wear ring obviously needed to be replaced as well.
    Personally, I’d stay away from this one unless I was simply buying it for the engine and it had good compression.

  • @steveh7085

    Its an awesome starter ski and if you got the 1100 you'll love the speed it is capable of. Should you get it ? Buy a compression gauge and check the compression. on the 1100 it should be between 110 to 120 on all three cylinders. You can have the cleanest engine compartment but unless you do a compression check you could be buying a project and never know it.

    Can you just eliminate the need for an oil pump by premixing the gas?

  • @gilly3380
    @gilly3380 5 лет назад +1

    So if you pre-mix, do you fill the oil tank as well as the fuel tank, so that it's just pumping from both, and the oil pump stays intact and lubricated?
    Or, do you run the oil pump dry (and probably hot) while it pumps nothing but air? Or, do you remove the oil pump / do something to alter the passage ways?

    Water test it is the most important thing to do before buying.

  • @StefanMailey
    @StefanMailey Год назад

    No compression test. No pump/impeller inspection. Drive coupler bushing... Checking the plugs to see if engine was running lean. So mony more things you should check when buying a ski. Body damage means nothing.. Ski can get damaged in first 20 mins. Yamaha motors go for great money these days. Motor alone is 1500$.

    Thanks for posting this video. The audio of your voice is great, and by the way.....nice voice ;) I've watched many RUclips videos and there is nothing worse than a irritating voice to listen to. Just as a side note - and it may not bother others, but the background music was really distracting to me. I liked the music, but not while you are talking. Again, maybe others aren't bothered by it?? I found your video to be great other than that and very informative to those of us that have no idea what they are getting into ;) I have often contimplated buying one but I keep telling myself, "Don't do it, just rent one when you want to go out on the water." :) Thanks for the video because you are making my decision a bit easier :)KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDEOS

  • @fiero880

    at exactly 4:32 you will see a black cap attached and screwed into a white fitting on the very top middle to right of video. On the 760 and 1100 raiders this is where the water line input is. At exactly 4:23 while I am showing the storage compartment you will see a red hose in a "U" shape. This is the line that attaches to the garden hose and then into the ski. START THE SKI FIRST !!! Then turn the water on slowly. After running shut the water off first then shut the ski off. Read the manual.

    Best ones to buy and maintain are yamaha or kawasaki. Stay away from Polaris or Tigershark (arctic cat) because they stopped making them over 15 years ago so it will be hard to find parts.
    Seadoo is okay but they seem to require more maintenance (not quite as reliable) than Yamaha or Kawasaki.

      compression. check the compression and make sure it is within specs and even between the cylinders, See how many hours are on the ski, see if the oil pump unit was blocked off or still set up factory. How well was it taken care of. What engine is this, meaning is this the original engine, or have they replaced it already. power value I want to say is on the 2000 or 2001 and up models so you shouldn't have to worry about that. look and inspect the impeller and impeller housing.

    Any smart buyer would have walked away when they saw the starting fluid. Sarting fluid is a solvent and breaks down the oil that is needed in a two stroke on the cylinder walls. That does damage almost instantly.
    Any jet ski buyer worth his salt KNOWS you need a compression gauge to properly look at a ski.
    Thirdly, that oil pump works like this. When you are wide open throttle it is roughly mixing your fuel and oil at 35:1 or 40:1. That is when the motor is spinning around 7000 rpms and needs the most oil. When you are at idle you are only running at 1200-1500rpm and only need your oil mixed about 100:1. So every time you dont have that throtle buried you are wasting oil. If you properly service your oil pump, replacing old lines etc, your motor will fail hundreds of hours before your pump.

      False. Starter fluid would have to be used in extreme succession to cause any issues

    This video would literally not help anyone learn what to look for when buying a first Jetski. You said well this has oil but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. This is damaged before but it’s not a bad thing like you didn’t explain anything. You sound like anyone with very basic knowledge of a Jetski. You could of gone over common issues these jet skis have and what you might be lookin at doing for repairs to this one as far as parts and cleaning it up.

      Impeller ?? personal watercraft rely on the water being pump from the jet pump assembly on the back of the ski not an impeller.

      fiero880 I know im just messing around. i work on jet skis for my job and i see it all the time people go buy a ski take it to the lake it doesn't run right bring it to us and one of the cylinders is down. they are alot more fun to ride then the small boats we sell now. i wish alot more people would watch videos like this so they don't get F'd over and so i don't have to tell them the ski you just bought is junk.

      josh hughes +josh hughes ha ha the reality is you make money out of their mistakes so where is the problem then? just rebuild their engines and they'll still havea cheap reliable+ economical jet ski to ride. let's don't forget that a blown 4 stroke engine will cost a small fortune to rebuild in comparison with a 2 stroke 2 cylinder 700 +760 yamaha. i have to admit.i wouldn't touch the old sea doos unless i become a jet ski mechanic...they had a bad habit of blowing engines at around 45 hours of use. my old waveraider 700 never let me down. scontent-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/1456580_516350605145136_1168317193_n.jpg?oh=e19650ae717816a9b665e52ba11ff5e6&oe=55404F20

      Two strokes are easy to work on. Do they last as long as 4 strokes? No. Do they get terrible fuel mileage? Yes. But these older ones, most don’t have computers, therefore no sensors. You can buy rebuilt engines for 600 to 700 dollars amd do the work yourself. Some of these older skis run 70mph non supercharged. Superchargers I love, but when place under the motor, almost any maintenance or repair work require the motor to be removed, ie 1k labor charge for minimal work. Guess you can pick or choose either side. Great video.

      BrenDoneIt because the “scenarios/problems” indicated are highly realistic to be labeled as plausible. He was being very realistic with his evaluations you can’t just say just because there’s residue that every single thing is wrong related to it.
