Insane. Production Design is really the field where I feel that even the most experienced professionals are challenged with unprecedented requirements and have to try things no one ever tried before. Deepest Respect!
I do love these interviews with "Hollywood" folks talking about their big budget projects. Keep doing them, but what about also doing similar interviews with their counterparts who are doing small budget projects? Production design is a great example where "indie" folks are creating amazing results on a much smaller scale and with smaller budgets. There's lots to learn from both these big show folks and from the indie folks.
This is priceless. I wish this was an in-depth 1-hour thing but this format is still incredible. Getting this kind of access and hanging out with veterans might actually be the spark for the next generation.
Yay!! I am a Production Designer and I was wondering when you guys were going to do a video about it! I'm so happy! Thank you!! PD doesn't get enough respect or credit!!!
You guys should! I tell all of my filmmaking students if I don't have anything to light it's a white boring box! I love seeing what the PD department creates!
Hi there! I'm an aspirational production designer and architect by profession, if you won't mind can you please help me where to start , what to learn, what books to read, RUclips videos recommendations..
can we take a moment to appreciate the level of detail regarding the whole lantern part... "the lanterns were representing the lost souls of monks who had died in this temple" as a metaphor for how one gets lost in limbo after having spent too much time there... I mean.. come the f*** on!!!! It's 2020 and this movie still blows my mind.
Among the list of unsung heroes in the film industry. What incredibly creative, hardworking people. I wish we saw more of their processes. Thank you so much for creating these videos, Indy Mogul!
this is freaking awesome! I am literally in a location scouting and art design class now and this is great seeing someone in the industry break it down visually and give their thought processes.
I loved every single second of this video, he is absolutely incredible, a genius. His mind, the way he sees things and creates connections blew me away, I loved the Elizabeth & the map example, how he decided to transition that from a simple map on a table to a tile floor map and have her walk on it as she strategizes as well as the lanterns story for Inception. Just WOW!
5:10 set dressing = immersive yourself in ref/material of that time period for ideas Not just wooden ships, but that era, to get ideas of what would be on wooden ships, etc
THIS IS FASCINATING your videos are amazing, I love how you let your guests speak and breathe and show their knowledge, you don't talk over them or tell them things they already know, or ask questions we already know the answer to
LOVE this interview. It's so interesting getting the breakdown of the sets and the problem solving that goes into them. Could have watched this for hours.
1. This is awesome! 2. These episodes can be 1 hour long and still it would feel so short. 3. Wish more of these mind of episodes! This is so fantastic! Absolutely amazing material!
What a great interview! Learned a lot from this, love hearing production designers talk about their craft. I could listen to Guy talk for hours, what a smart, cool dude.
Great interview for sure. Just something that made me think was that only director's name was never mentioned, out of the three designed discussed, wonder why. Excellent interview, very helpful.
Thank you SO MUCH for this interview and talking to Guy Dyas, along with the podcast episode. I’m a big fan of Guy and Inception, and now along with Parasite, has some of my favorite production design of any movie.
Dude. Ted. I appreciate you and what you're doing so much man. Thanks for making these and the professionals that come in to show us their experiences.
It´s always so awesome to watch someone talk about and explain their work with such passion end expertise. And that it´s all free is such an amazing advantage. Love this videos, BIG THANKS to Indy Mogul :D
THIS FUCKING BLEW MY MIND!!! THE ADVICE HE GAVE DANNY AND NOLAN ARE FUCKING GENIUS.!! This goes to show that a director is only as good as the team around him
Ted reminds me of Tom Hanks! I've thought that every time I see these new videos. I'm gonna have to catch up and watch these videos again, now that I'm getting back into film consistently.
so i am a filmmaker and love every part of making films but I am not a Hollywood filmmaker so o don't know a lot about it... but this video let me appreciate the hole Hollywood filmmaking more than how I do it anyway... hope that make sense. So crazy what you guys do 🔥
I heard, though the initial plan was to tip the water out of large containers onto the set, they eventually went with pressurized water tanks because they would need significantly more water to make the sight look dramatic enough. Secondly dumping that much water with all the force would be a hazard on set.
Insane. Production Design is really the field where I feel that even the most experienced professionals are challenged with unprecedented requirements and have to try things no one ever tried before. Deepest Respect!
And Guy's passion is amazing. Makes me want to shoot again with people who share that passion and excitement

Agreed. Personally, I'd love to see Ted sit down with Ash Thorp or Ryan Booth. That would be some excellent conversation right there.
One of the more fascinating episodes in my opinion. I love hearing from departments like this that don't normally get interviewed.
