Yeah, I kinda figured someone would have beat me to this punch, but I'd just like to add that, as satisfying as the Something For Everyone album/tour was, I think there was one missed opportunity there - they should have done a new arrangement of this tune that sounds exactly like the Tim Hortons ad that actually played before this video for me - in other words, a jaunty acoustic guitar/tambourine/xylophone shuffle with the lead melody articulated by double-tracked two-octave whisling. I would have lost my fucking shit if they did that.
Everything important I ever learned was from DEVO. My school in Columbus Ohio never taught me about "dead fictitious entities"... But DEVO did! Thanks for the REAL education fellow Ohioans!!!
Found this on Rolling Stone- Bhahahahahaha "When I first wrote it, I sent it to Uganda for [President] Idi Amin to be his new theme song," Mothersbaugh recalls. "It had lyrics like, 'I come down the river to kill many people!' I sent it to him and, of course, I never got any answer back. So we decided that it could be our corporate anthem."
I always thought this was a great way to open an album or their gigs. its like they're indoctrinating you into their terrible world. its a warm welcome to devolution. this is the new age. whether you like it or not, here it iz
All I can think of when I see this clip is the scene from Weird Al's, "Dare to be Stupid" music video where the Devo guys stick ice cream cones to their foreheads. :)
And, even though they were considered "avant garde" in their day (I was there), sadly the enslavement of the populace to the corporations has become very real in the last 20 years.
Youre right sir. this is a year later, and iv actually realized the importance of being patriotic. I will always love devo, but i will never choose this over our country. God bless you, your father and every other vet especially. i appreciate everyone that serves in the military.
This sounded like a beautiful trumpets playing anthem of the pretty planet, Planet Anubis. Our and their national anthem. And We are Devo. And we are the Devo Dynomutts, Dogs Wonders!
@shipmaker14 Definitely not, it DOES sound like some 16th century Tudor court music that would be re-arranged by Michael Nyman and Peter Greenaway for an Henry VIII-type historical movie !!!
gotta say synth sounds has come a long way...I used to have a Casio CZ1 that sounded just like this....in 1985 that is...classic 16/32bit sampling. thanks for the vid!
The "egg things" which you are talking about are Mr. Potatohead toys. There is as much released Devo non-music footage as there is music video, and the first time I recall seeing the Potatohead toys was in a General Boy segment (You can find a few videos with him in it on RUclips). The segment starts with him saying "So, you've chosen to attend a devo performance" where he glosses over the the reasons to be careful attending a Devo show. If it was in one of their music videos, I cant recall it.
Watching this reminds me of the scenes in the original movie Rollerball.Just before each game they play the "Corporate Hymn" which sounds very similar.Same major chords repeated over and over.Devo...prophets of the profits
This has got to be a parody of the Earth Imperial Anthem from the "Doctor Who" serial "The Mutants." That seems like too obscure a thing to parody but it sounds way too similar to be a coincidence.
I'd like to thank RUclips for the irony of making me sit thru an ad before letting me hear the Corporate Anthem.
no irony here. just the appropriate overture to their corporate anthem.
+Turtle152 If you don't like ads you can get adblock.
Aye good shout there.
Turtle152 used Sarcasm!
It's super effective!

If the spud fits, wear it!
devo aren't one hit wonders their one huge hit legend's.
The wind in their hair is such a great touch.
That’s the Corporation breaking wind on their faces
I stand up and put my hand on my heart each time I hear our universal anthem!
The entire crowd should during shows
Devo was by far the most creative band in the punk/new wave period and certainly the most original.
I have a sense of being safe and proud when I listen to our anthem :)
God bless walled off America.
All hail the Glorious Corporation
Of which we are all loyal subsidiaries
The most epic video on youtube
In just barely a minute, proof that it's been an underrated monument of an album for 43 years. Duty Now for the future. Or what's left of it.
Found this on Rolling Stone- Bhahahahahaha

What a comedian. That reminds me of the song he wrote from the perspective of a random killer, Dazza G.
Damn I remember standing at attention to this Anthem and I'm 44 now ..Yikes..They Still Rock!!!
Awesome brother! We still stand in attention to this day!
My 3 year old watches Mark Mothersbaugh on Yo Gabba Gabba, I used to listen to Devo when I was 19, who'd of thought.
I just had to comment on this piece of art.
Hendrix did a version of this that brought the house down at Woodstock.
Always wanted that shirt
I will comply with my corporate masters.......
Long Live Devo!
All DEVO fans have a great sense of humour.
A vision of the future, I loved this band!
I always thought this was a great way to open an album or their gigs. its like they're indoctrinating you into their terrible world. its a warm welcome to devolution. this is the new age. whether you like it or not, here it iz
I always play this when I'm making potato salad.
Inspired to tears.
A piece of surreallism Dali would buy
The last band with a philosophy; a real reason to exist and make music. Devolve and enjoy.
some of the best sarcasm in a music video I've ever seen. Devo is an inspiration to nerds geeks dweebs and spazoids everywhere!
All I can think of when I see this clip is the scene from Weird Al's, "Dare to be Stupid" music video where the Devo guys stick ice cream cones to their foreheads. :)
Weird Al is more DEVO than you.
I still get emotional watching this.....
this is so much more than a music video. this is a visual manifesto.
Holy shit! .. . it sounds just like Clockwork Orange music.
Yeah but this is not as good as clockwork orange music
Well most of the CO music was composed by Beethoven, Rossini, and Purcell, so...
THAT'S WHAT MY FIRST THOUGHT ABOUT IT!
ur hawt....
@@Oberstgreup yeah but it was synthesized by Wendy Carlos.
I walked down the aisle to this song.
It seemed appropriate for an American wedding.
The video is perfect for the sombre, minimalist, futuristic corporate anthem.
Long live the Corporation!
Devo were well before they’re time.
They always will be.
And, even though they were considered "avant garde" in their day (I was there), sadly the enslavement of the populace to the corporations has become very real in the last 20 years.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ! 2018 ! great DEVO FANS !
Alan we salute you fellow spud! You will be missed!

Youre right sir. this is a year later, and iv actually realized the importance of being patriotic. I will always love devo, but i will never choose this over our country. God bless you, your father and every other vet especially. i appreciate everyone that serves in the military.
Fuck you phony patriot military worship idiots. You fail to see the irony in Devo's mocking just your sort of horseshit.
D E V O Forever!!!!
hehe I love devo =D
HAPPY NEW YEAR ! , GREAT DEVO FANS 2017 1
its what's in the mind of the man that motivates him to act or not?
Duty now for the future, Spuds!
I think they're saying it sounds like an American version of the German electronica band Kraftwerk. Which, come to think of it, it does.
Are we not men? We are DEVO!
This sounded like a beautiful trumpets playing anthem of the pretty planet, Planet Anubis. Our and their national anthem. And We are Devo. And we are the Devo Dynomutts, Dogs Wonders!
Devo is cool.
We are Devo..D.E.V.O.

Definitely not, it DOES sound like some 16th century Tudor court music that would be re-arranged by Michael Nyman and Peter Greenaway for an Henry VIII-type historical movie !!!
a Band that wanted to be the uncoolest band is now the coolest band ever
GENIOUS !
MASTERPIECE !
I can imagine this as being the anthem for IBM back in the day.
this morning at school (im 13) i sang i hummed this outloud during the pledge of allegiance and it was awesome
Devo must have known USA is a corporation
I LOVE THIS BAND!!!!
Please play at my funeral. Loud.
gotta say synth sounds has come a long way...I used to have a Casio CZ1 that sounded just like this....in 1985 that is...classic 16/32bit sampling.
thanks for the vid!
we are DEVO!!!
we all are DEVO
The music reminds me of the film 'Clockwork Orange'.....Hail DEVO !!!
Hard to believe it's been 40 years.
I will put Devo in the "pop" genre just in order to make across my point, which is: I wish there was art, thought and meaning in today's pop music...
The "egg things" which you are talking about are Mr. Potatohead toys. Brilliant, simple, and cheesey.Love it.
Is Tyvek the same stuff those trick sugar sachets (the ones you can't tear) are made of?
So, what I want to know is,
how did they go from the cutting edge to the buttering edge?
I enjoy products.
We have all become corporate slaves! Rejoice!
All rise and Stand at attention for the special song when you take your forced experimental corporate policy injections
@@jaimebejune6555 don’t forget to smile!
@@martinmaz95 hahaha I love their polished look of brainwashed! We think alike hahahaha
Genius! This should be the anthem for the United Corporations of America that we've become.
This reminds me of some IBMers I worked with back in the 80s...LOL
(without ties)
Watching this reminds me of the scenes in the original movie Rollerball.Just before each game they play the "Corporate Hymn" which sounds very similar.Same major chords repeated over and over.Devo...prophets of the profits
Zimbabwe - a thirld world petrie dish of America with all the advertising and none of the profit.
the movie you speak of-
"the Truth About De-Evolution" is available on VHS at Toronto's Suspect Video.
Last i checked.
Devo corporate anthem...introduced with a commercial.
And trust me I'm going to listen to this over and over tomorrow, and finally tell my teacher what the symbol on my Devo t-shirt means
all hail devo!
HEY!!! Thanks a million! I'm gonna check that out!
I salute.
Devo was writing songs like Jocko-homo in 1973, If their roots are punk it's in an organic way and they came up with the sound on their own.
Get with the program or you will be terminated. Stand up and salute!
This has got to be a parody of the Earth Imperial Anthem from the "Doctor Who" serial "The Mutants." That seems like too obscure a thing to parody but it sounds way too similar to be a coincidence.
Lee Sherman Late reply I know, but this is based on the corporate anthems from the film Rollerball.
They are saluting corporate America.
Suitable replacement for "Hail to the Chief"
Reminds me of the original Rollerball
Which Rollerball... the original or the remake?
The original of course! Go Energy! Go Houston! Go Jonathan E!
Tbat was the inspiration for it.
Anyone have the movie Devo'lution?
All rise and stand tall for the NFL Corporate Anthem.
you can get so high off this song though! DEVO rules!
*Stands next to Mark and Salutes*
really? than what's the album before "Are We not men?", or are you counting the Be Stiff Ep as an album?
long live our benevolent, egalitarian corporations, if there ever was such a thing.
