My plumber thought alway to check for gas leaks after we lit the water heater. I've got small leak detector. Thanks Steve for sharing your videos I've learn a lot
I had a (very) old coal-gas conversion octopus furnace that had a millivolt thermopile type deal on the burner, that thing was sensitive as hell to even the slightest issue with connection or dirt. I was so glad to rip that old beast out and replace it with a modern gas furnace. The old converted beast had a 300,000 BTU burner and cost a freaking fortune to run, worst of all most of the heat went up the flue.
looks like you had the wrong screws Steve the screw with the washer go on the plate and the regular zip screws pitch them together if you didn't see it other then that nice job thanks for videos
Wish I had known about that screwdriver trick for the red button to light the pilot; I still have a dent in my thumb from pushing the button in when trying to relight the pilot. Also, is the rubber duck a hood ornament for the tub?
Hey Steve, love your videos. Got a question for ya. My GF's parents have a fairly new Sears branded Gas Water heater. The pilot light goes out at random times on this thing. It will relight, and the heater comes on, but after it shuts off, the pilot will go out again. I'm thinking thermocouple, but her father mentioned there is no sediment trap on the black iron gas line. I told them to get Sears to replace the burner unit under warranty. Any ideas? Thanks!
I don't see too many people with those security bars @21:01 on their steering wheels anymore. I remember there was one model back in the 90s that had a hook on one end to tie the accelerator up to the steering wheel to keep a thief from accelerating. Combine that with the Kbar, and nothin is going nowhere.
Hey Steve. I know you worked alot on water heaters... got a quick question about a AO Smith water heater of mine... no hot water... here is the issue... pilot light is always on... no hot water... I go check the water heater... everything looks ok... pilot light is on.. I turn the temperature setting and POOFFF.. flame comes on... problem is... after water gets hot enough and flame goes out... flame does not come back on unless I manually touch the temperature knob ...and this happens everytime.. my water heater is about 12 years old.. do you think its the thermocoupler ? or igniter that is the problem ? its very annoying these days everytime I need hot water I need to run down and touch the temp setting to get flames to come on to get hot water... your expertise is needed... let me know what you think ... thank you sir. love your channel btw..great stuff.
My water heat it turns on as soon as I turn on the hot water how to fix that Because I know some other water heaters take a little while before the fire kicks in but this one turns on that even a pitcher full of water running off the shower hot water tank turns on right away I think it's too fast can you help me I'm all the way in New York thank you
Oh oh! Stevie's discovered power screw drivers EVERYBODY RUN! :-) sorry couldn't resist. They do make life easier though. There is a model that has a variable speed power screw driver gives you better control instead of one speed.
Yes, propane is a liquid until it exits the tank, propane is heavier than air, natural gas is lighter than air, if an appliance is set for natural gas it must be converted to use propane gas.
I use to install those tubs for that company and they don't tell the customers that there old water heater won't fill it but they have a clause ion the contract that there not liable they get $14,000 to $20,000 to put one in crazy money !!!
Sal C power pile or thermophile's are internally about 25 thermocouples in series to up the voltage, this is needed if a number of safeties or/and a longer wire run is needed, or on this case used to power a solid state circuit. The pilot bracket is sized different and the gas valve connection is different on coaxial connect tions
thermocouple only puts out about 15 -18 millivolts ... and generator puts out 300 --350 millivolts .. generators are used on fireplaces and steam boilers because you need more millivolts because of the circuit on the appliance ... meaning they have more circuitry like a wall switch a flue switch a rollout switch low water cutoff s so you need more millivolts to over come all that resistance .. hope that helps ..
I never clean the generator / power pile . idealy if one can get a millivolt reading from the generator that's the best way imo to go .. typical generator puts out 300 mil. volts .. could be more . dirty pilot will give a lesser reading .. clean that pilot and the reading comes up with a sharper pilot .. could have been dust on the air intake .. possible down draft hits it just right and knocks it out .. on that thermostat it would be hard to get a drop reading but you might be able to shave back the generator wires and see what the reading is .. .. then once you have your mlti meter on it turn the pilot off and wait for the click of the thermostat hood to drop out .. I..e drop out test .. on generators as you watch the millivolts decrease wait for the drop . if it drops above 100 millivolts could be a bad thermostat ... on thermocouple types if it drops above 5milivolts I change thermostat .. I usualy never see a bad generator ,,, just saying .. I'm a gas tech for a major east coast utility .. thanks goodluck cool dog
Nice trickery with tweeker I always struggle to see pilot for 40 years thanks
From 1:30 - 4:00 helped me restart my hot water heater. Thank you so much for making this video!!

Gotta love sealed combustion units. And smart gas valves. Great job Steve. Good cleaning and she's back in business.
the tech tips are always next level. Thank you for the valuable knowledge you share man.

A man and his dog.......Priceless! 👍👍👍
Nice job Steve, at least they had the stuff away from the furnace and water heater :) Great informational video!
Thank you. It worked out just like you said.
Those tubs look pretty cool. I would worry about the door leaking at some point. That tub is big I see why she needs a big water heater.
colder than my x-wife at the lawer's office
lol
That's what I was going to say. LOL
New observer thanks Steven, teaching self sufficiency; man learning how to fish!
Great video thank you. Steve I was wondering can the gas preassure on the valve be regulated and treated with a manometer?
looks like you had the wrong screws Steve the screw with the washer go on the plate and the regular zip screws pitch them together if you didn't see it other then that nice job thanks for videos

This shows that you're never too old to have a rubber duck in the bath tub

Propane is a PAIN.. Cleaned thermo-pile allot too; usually works . GJ-Steven
Nice tub..
The part that you cleaned, what is it called and what does it do?
Elias Garcia it’s called thermocouple .
It holds fire into pilot
Colder then my ex wife at the lawer's office!! Love it!! Thats why I always watch the endings!! HAHA!!
Funny lol
Steve, if you run a bicycle brake cable through that small tube it reams the carbon out of it nicely.

sounds like whats happening with ours works then goes out. what was the issue in the end and how did you solve it ?
That was not a quick question. LOL
That is a nice walk in tub she has. Do you know its make and model?
Nice one, Steven. People keep too much junk in their basement. Baby the dog.
I’m just wondering, could the propane tank have been running low?
HA you passed the Moby Dick Motel!...one in Klamath Falls Or... Ride em' Buck em" Motel!!! of course a neon with a cowboy riding a horse...:-D
Nice work Steve.
Next level Steve! Makes my day.
very good videos i learned how to check my wh.
Thank you for this video!
i friggin hate those little glass windows. it's so hard to see if the piezo ignitor is working. good video, Steve!

Good video steve, learned how to check.
Nice. Thank you!
Great video Steven

Tankless better no?
great video Steve
Another great video Steve
Good video, I'm a dog guy, so I love the dog.
Is there a difference between propane and natural gas
Yes, propane is a liquid until it exits the tank, propane is heavier than air, natural gas is lighter than air, if an appliance is set for natural gas it must be converted to use propane gas.
good thing it was you wrenching on that main burner line, cause I would've went and gotten my big crescent wrench to show it who's the boss
Good lesson sir
Thank you so much
Good job!

what's the difference between a thermocouple and a power pile generator?
Sal C Thermopile outputs more voltage than a thermocouple. this gas valve uses a thermopile to operate the valve, and the status light.
Sal C power pile or thermophile's are internally about 25 thermocouples in series to up the voltage, this is needed if a number of safeties or/and a longer wire run is needed, or on this case used to power a solid state circuit. A power pile is a pilot generator is a thermopile. All the same shit
Thank you for this video sir
Do you give any warranty on that?
Everybody usually does 1 year or 3 months.
No sniffer detector afterwards?
We get lot of dirt on thermocouple in my area cause there lot of well head gas in area and it's unclean
thank you need learn more

good video . keep it up . Steve ^_^
Good vid
If your gas is off how can I get hot water
I got a lot of problems with Bradford white
Get a Rheem. Trust me! You can get 12 years of warranty for under $800.00.
😂 hilarious!!
Hey
Than you ?you never turn of the gas
