Glad to see you cleaning the flame arrestor screen. Nobody does. I would caution with using ammonia-based glass cleaner for your soap bubble test solution. While I've used it for 30 years you must wash it off. It has been proven to cause stress cracking in the brass, which will eventually leak. Just rinse it well of use commercial leak check bubbles. Glad you cheaned the whole pilot assy. and not just the tube. PIA job to work on without gas pipes in the way. That's the kind of layout that causes hacks to bail on it without solving the problem. Overall, good job!

When I had the misfortune of working for Sears repair (central a/c's & water heaters) they gave us a low slim rectangular profile brush vac attachment similar to your pvc one but worked great attached to a cordless vac.

  • @gregoryvrooman9546

Discovered pilot light was only barely heating thermocoupler on one side. not much of a draft required to remove heat. Adjusted flame and ended problem.

Recent flood. My pilot light lights, stays on, then burner also lights. Then burner only stays lit for a few seconds and goes out taking pilot light with it. Then pilot won't light for 20 minutes. When pilot does light, situation repeats. I've taken the burner assembly out and cleaned it and cleaned the filter, and blown out gas lines. Any suggestions appreciated!

@@ChuckBarron Hey Chuck...do you recommend using compressed air, or a vaccuum to clean the bottom filter of a water heater. I have both, but my compressor would have to be hauled from the garage (large Sears tank vs Shop Vac). Do they work equally well?

I'm assuming the other plumber mess it up the fitting or it just need it a snag it with a wrench key or a crescent wrench, I would not use pliers or channel locks on these fittings they are delicate cz its brass it can not be over tight

Great video. I built the angled hose and blew out my Bradford White. Got some stuff but not as much as I expected. Wouldn't stay lit. It is in a rental house and the people have had pets. I cut and flattened the flange around the base of the heater and put a piece of hooked hanger wire through the holes and swept the bottom underneath the grating. I got almost nothing out. Was expecting gobs of hair. The pilot stayed lit. The heater fired up and then died out. My compressor was 2 gals and dropped immediately from 100 psi when I started flushing the grate. Any suggestions?

CAn you advise what else could the cause for going away once in a day or so. how do i check if it is not because of draft or vaccum making pilot light goes off.

Please help. Desperate. We have not had hot water for one month. Please help. The water heater is in the attic. My husband replaced the thermocouple, and the burner assembly. He cleaned the air register. The pilot light will stay on forever when the burner is not on. When you turn the burner on and off the pilot stays lit. But when you leave the burner on both the pilot and the burner goes off after about 15 minutes.

I want to say thank you again for a very cool non-redundant editorial. You encouraged and gave me knowledge on how to fix my water heater and there are blue flames in Texas now.
The negative is, the two plumbers that came here and wanted to charge me outstanding fees can go have sexual intercourse with themselves.
And what I have learned, taking a shower without hot water is very cold in Texas. Have a good day.
Oh yeah, if you do have a brother-in-law in Texas or a brother that's a plumber, tell them to take the day off.
