That was not just a cool looking Wookie. It's Black Krrsantan from the comics and he's featured in lots of them. He is a bounty hunter and a killer who is disgracefully exiled from Kashyyk. He's fought both Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi who beat his ass and almost blinded him. The ones on the train were the Pykes. They are part of the Syndicate and later on part of Darth Maul's Crimson Dawn. The Pykes were also featured quite a bit in the last seasons of the Clone Wars.

I myself am a cook islander that was raised in NZ, and I have extensively studied Maori and their history as well as spoken to kaumatua's who have worked with native americans in the usa on land conservation. Indigenous cultures have lived through this in our life time. I am reminded of myself as Boba Fett, coming from a different culture but being accepted into another. That's honestly what I was thinking when watching the episode; there's a lot of Native American, Maori and Aboriginal influence. I love how they're rounding out the Tuskens. The tribal dance, the equivalent of the peyote visions and the walkabout where he found the wood. Even the shaping and intricate carving part of his gaffi stick. They've done an amazing job introducing the culture of the Tuskens in this.

I'll be honest, back in Mando season 1 when we were back on Tatooine and every time after that I was like "yeah it's cool and all but everything happens on Tatooine, feels like the galaxy's getting smaller" and boy oh boy was I wrong. The fact that so many different yet related stories take place on that planet doesn't shrink the galaxy it bring real growth to a planet I thought I know for over 20 years! As the boys said, the Tuskens were a weird tribe with no identity and just there so Anakin could slaughter them. But now we learned that they're living in different tribes some more aggressive than others. They have a culture, they can actually be peaceful and helping if you treat them fair (as Mando did in s2e1).

I also want say if anyone hasn't played Knights of the Old Republic part 1&2 you should definitely try them if you can. Besides them having great stories and characters you also learn so much about the history and cultures of different races and also different groups like the Tusken Raiders, the Mandalorians, and the Wookies just to name a few. Here's a little interesting facts for you both, that place Boba steals the speeders is actually Toshe Station that Luke in the first movie wanted to go to. There's a deleted seen of the place and that's actually the same lay out and design of the place. Also the Male and Female characters in there are actually Luke's friends from the deleted scene. What a great episode and reaction.

The train shooting first kinda reminded me on how colonists created the railway system in the us they often shot and fired at buffalo for sport not for food almost making them extinct. How the Tuskans are treated by Offworlders has parallels to how Native Americans were treated by Colonists. Not a political guy btw just a guy that loves history and I noticed the parallels.

When I was watching the episode, I kept thinking, we don't have time for a train job, it'll be next episode, but they did! AND the gaffi stick crafting?!? This ep was a font of lore!
Also, I did not realize Ithorians were so hairy? Have you ever seen an elephant close up? Like at an animal park? They have lots of dark, coarse hairs. Made me wonder if Ithorian skin is like elephant skin (I know they have the Chevin in Star Wars, which are elephantine. Could they be related?) Such cool details!

I love the dinosaur dogs so much. They're adorable! This series meshes perfectly with The Mandolorian and the Western/Kirosawa influences we've been seeing in the new SW properties. I mean all the cliches are there, but they work so well. I especially love the sister Hutt's dainty little fan and how she "whispers" behind it. The twins should be Gardulla the Younger and his sister. They're the kids of Gardulla who was briefly seen in The Phantom Menace, and she also has an interesting history.

That was a Tusken Haka at the end. Temuera Morrisson is giving us Maori warrior culture through the Tuskens. Also: this is big Dune vibes. Duke Leto told Paul that to rule Arrakis they would need desert power" House Atredies overtures to Fremen was becasue the Fremen are the desert power. The Tuskens are the Fremen. Bobba will call on them. The Hutts, like the Harkonnens, are going to find out what happens when the natives get restless. Also: a Dresden and a GoT reference...BRILLIANT!

Love this episode found it to be a massive improvement over the first one which may actually have the less budget put into it like a really short pilot. I don't mind the flashbacks at all compared to some people i see who aren't into them taking up 80% of the episode but we honesty need them the world building is great. Episode three to me is the final flashback ending on a massive event which sets up the next three episodes so I'm really excited. This had a mix of Dune, Lawrence of Arabia, Mad Max, and Dances With Wolves. 11:57 Fun detail but this is Tosche Station and those two are Luke's friends from the cut New Hope footage of Luke watching the battle above Tatooine.

I'm glad the Tuskan leader pointed out that some tribes survive by violence and others were more like this tribe (and presumably the cooperative tribe in "The Mandalorian"). This allows for the Tuskan aggression in the first two trilogies, while creating more of a realistic idea that tribes of like kind are not homogeneous in their thinking.

I love the cultural deep dive of the Tuskens - And to your point about their use in not just the movies or the shows, they feature prominently in KOTOR games with options of peace and violence in dealing with them. Those were probably the first instances of showing communication and cooperation is possible, but these shows take that to a new level.
