I love the simplicity of the tips in this video. I'm in the process of redesigning my sewing space and the minimal vibe is bringing my stress level down drastically.
Thank you for these invaluable tips and also thank you for confirming that this is not easy. Time and time again, others will critique and assume and even have the audacity to say out loud, "Sewing is so easy, fitting should be a breeze." I've heard, "The tailor shop might have your pants done by the time you walk to the register and pay for it."
You're right. All those comments are crap! This is an engineering endeavor, just as difficult, maybe even more so, than designing and building buildings. After all, there are no straight lines on a human body. What I learned in my classes is that most people are wearing clothes that don't fit. If sewing were so easy, that wouldn't be the case. Thanks for YOUR comment. Laurel
This engineering endeavor is more difficult, in my opinion. As you say, there are no straight lines on the body, but furthermore, humans MOVE. And clothing must not only accommodate, but flatter ... Many different curves and COMBINATIONS of curves & shapes. Every single human is different. And every garment for the same person requires different calculations and problem-solving skills.
I agree about pin cushions. I took a pretty saucer from an antique store and glued slim magnets to the bottom to hold my pins. Great gift idea for someone who sews😊. I too, don't take the time to poke them back into a cushion.
You are so right, sewing, patterns are engineering. Some people have try to down grade sewing as just a "hobby" or silly thing, but I tell them there is critical thinking, problem solving, math, along with creativity. All good skills! Thank you, for sharing!
I think, because it is women that usually sew, we are told that sewing is as you say, a "hobby" or something silly. That's ridiculous! If it's so easy, and nothing but a hobby, how come it took me 40 years to write my books? There must have been something difficult about that project.
I live in Oreland, just north of Chestnut Hill, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia. We do have a house that is going up for sale on our street. It's a great neighborhood. Interested?

There is a lot to be said for a well-organized sewing space. Being able to find things saves so much sewing time.

Learned so much about organization.
Thanks! That's what this is all about. More posts are up on my Instagram account. I post as I sew. instagram.com/laurelhoffmann4015/
