I had my autism assessment today, and my doc (who worked with his brother on the remastered Bioshock games) asked me what about the things that bring me the most joy (video games and their music) sends my mood into orbit. I explained that game music gets me the most choked up because it combined the sense of awe that gets some people to cry with the emotional gut-punch that gets others, and mentioned this video and how excited I was to learn about this OoT callback, and he was floored because he was literally listening to the OoT OST on his way into work and the bells were really standing out to him for a reason he couldn't figure out. It's even cooler when you realize that theme bookends Link and Navi's entire relationship! You get the same sequence in the beginning of the Kokiri Forest theme the moment you walk out of your house. took me hours to connect the dots...
3:57 I love Miphas theme so much. It’s beautiful and so full of longing but also a bit empty like it’s not complete. It really seems to capture Miphas feelings for Link and how they would never be returned.

Yeah those church bells have always been iconic for me so I recognized it as soon as you played it. Well done, hearing it. The other thing is you make reference to the 3 notes that start BOTW's melody, and like in another comment I made, those three notes are the sun song from OoT and when you watch the newest trailer where it shows zelda in that room with spinning wheels, one wheel is a sun and the other the moon. If Ganon is conected to the Moon, then Link/Zelda must be connected to the sun.

I think the green rupee sound effect in skyward sword might be the starting notes of the ocarina of time morning hyrule field intro, couldn’t unhear it. Love your work brother
nice find on the oot ending! ive heard people also attribute that last bit to the ending of majoras mask aswell right after you beat majora. my mind when i heard it went straight to the "mission accomplish" in star fox 64, which all 3 i think use the same 2 notes

REALLY helpful! Always appreciate links and times. Do me a favor, when you find cool stuff (esp TORK but any) just send me links and times in a new comment and I’ll vet them. Definitely doing an Evolution of this theme. And you gave me an extra example at least.
You know what… I know that one from memory, I don’t have to pull it up. And it’s very similar. If it’s in the same key I’m adding it to my list of pieces that use that. But either way that’s pretty cool!
The final memory music coming back in - let's call it the final showdown (7:06) makes sense narratively because it's the champions coming together to fight Ganon. They're finally doing what they set out to do 100 years ago. So very cool! edit: OH! Also makes sense that it's the finale of OoT
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Every time I listen to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom music, it sounds like a love letter to the rest of the franchise 😍
The Shrine theme shares some motifs from the Sanctuary Dungeon theme A Link to the Past. Listen to the first three notes of the Shrine theme, they echo when the strings come in on Sanctuary Dungeon. And then the bagpipes in Shrine theme play some similar melodies from the Sanctuary Dungeon.
Oh yeah callbacks to the main theme are scattered all throughout the entire soundtrack and it’s my favorite thing ever. My favorite probably being in the DLC when Kass plays his final song in Rito village
Between Mifa, Sidon and King Dorephan, we have six of the eight notes of the Solfege Scale... but where are the other two notes? They've been under our noses all along: Zora (So La)
Nintendo posted on twitter an ask our developers interview about Tears of the Kingdom. They have chapter 1 and 2 so far out. In chapter 1 at the bottom of the article they talk about new sound design for the game. There is a short video posted here. Upon listening to it you can hear the nearby ocean washing inland, seagulls cawing....but the background music is new and the first couple piano notes are 100% the same notes from the final dlc cutscene of Age of Calamity (where they rebuild Terrako). I was mind blown.
woooooooooooah I was totally going for "that's obviously the start of the game when kokiri forest theme starts playing" but that melody goes up, I didn't realize that this one in the end of ocarina of time is like the same start but it goes down, that's so mindblowing!
Ok, so funny you should mention Gamespot, because you, sir, are THE Gamespot of the musical side of Zelda While they found fun facts and glitches and the like, you just keep coming with these amazing musical Easter eggs that are an absolute treat to listen to! I would have never guessed the Twillight princess one, while on the other hand even before you even revealed the divine beasts final assault on ganon, where you only showed the cutscene with the King I heard it and I had chills! Another amazing video, I tip my hat to you, truly! Can’t wait for musical analysis and breakdowns of Tears of the Kingdom music! Get excited, guys!
Ecri what a nice compliment! I really appreciate it! I never intended to become a “Musical Easter Egg” channel, but there has been too much good stuff NOT to cover. And moreover, I can’t find a lot of this stuff anywhere else! It’s mind blowing that Zelda is such a huge franchise, and there are millions who play and love the music, and seemingly no one is covering it. I’ve found a few channels that I think are doing cool things, but there’s still a big void in my opinion. That’s why it’s so hard to branch out to other stuff- I feel like this topic needs to be covered 🤣 Also that Twilight Princess reference came out of left field but I’ve never heard anyone mention it! And like 5 days later I was playing a different theme from over 15 years before TP, and I found out that (I believe) it originates from THAT theme. Yep, the whole Midna’s theme motif 1 5 2 has been used in another theme involving a dark world… 😬 I’ll definitely need to cover that in a video soon. I’ve found a couple gems that I haven’t heard. And then a lot of ones I didn’t know but heard from comments. Thanks so much for watching! If you get any ideas of what I should do for TOTK be sure to let me know! Kevin ZMT
@@ZeldaMusicTheory BotW had a variety of boss themes (Molduga, Talus, Hinox, basic enemy, Guardians, etc.) I'm pretty sure the new overworld bosses such as the Gleeok we've seen will have their own unique theme. Same goes for possible dungeon themes and/or new village themes that incorporate other recognizable tunes or jingles. So in essence, when TOTK releases, maybe if you just break down themes that are either new or old, if they have certain elements or progressions and chords, or if they contain snippets from other known zelda themes.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory So I love Zelda music so much that I listen to it way too often and I make sure that I have headphones to try and catch things. Though at first I forgot where the music from the final champion cutscene came from until I went back into OoT's soundtrack here on RUclips. That's when I caught it and I felt foolish for thinking it was a new theme at one point. BotW and TotK are both love letters to the Past while propelling the series into the future. Sort of a never forget where you came from no matter where you go sort of thing
The save selection confirmation sound in Breath of the Wild is the first note of the main theme of The Wind Waker. There's a water drop sound effect overtop of it, but if you listen closely you can hear the first note and the two drum beats of the theme!
SO it doesn’t seem like it would be hard to find on yt, but I looked for 5 min and can’t find it (and I vet a lot of theories)… could you send a link and timestamp? I’ll defin Italy check it out.
It gets better. Your "goosebumps" reaction is extremely appropriate, because that tune actually occurs earlier in the game...in the Ice Cavern. The first time I played OoT (well, saw it played), I noticed at once that the finale re-used that little snippet of melody.
Well, I’m not sure if anybody at all picked it up, but the opening flourish of the Guardian battle theme in BotW seems to be lifted up directly from the incidental alarm noise the Sentrobe Bombs make when they approach Link in Skyward Sword.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxrJ_RH-ZZbruF1wEjUahhW07yiJRiyDWl It’s rough, and I got it from some other playthrough(don’t have my Wii set up for it) but this clip should have it.
Every time there is a cut scene with the master sword, it makes the same sound Fi makes when you summon her in Skyward Sword. Also, in ToTK, the sound that Tulin makes when you call him is eerily similar to the sound the bird call makes in Twilight Princess.
Both are on my list. I haven’t finalized the Fi’s Theme references, but there were 3 (at least) in BOTW, and there was an obvious 1 or 2 in TOTK. I’d like to compile the and make either Evolution of Fi’s Theme, or just Easter Egg video. And the wind sound is a part of my MASSIVE Wind Temple references script. Probably 30 examples haha. That’s one of them. Be ready for that one, it’s gonna be sick.
9:05 This was indeed one of the lesser known references, but it had actually been discovered (you can see some mentions about it on Peaches Lamb's upload for "The Divine Beasts Strike" OST). Even so, a lot of this sort of discussions has been lost since Nintendo removed so many content around their soundtracks online a couple of years ago.
I don't know if anyone already said this, but it reminds me of the incipit of the Kokiri forest theme, when Link exits home after Navi joins him: some "the beginning is the end is the beginning" vibes here bud!
Hot dang, I knew that bit at the end sounded so familiar. Fitting too! We start off Breath of the Wild right beside the temple of time, and we end it hearing its church bells as we defeat Ganon
You should check out Link's Memories (Zelda's Awakening), both cutscene and music by itself. Lots of references there, like the main theme, Zelda's Lullaby into an amazing transition to the main Zelda theme, and another little callback to Fi when the Master Sword talks to Zelda. The introduction and ending of the cutscene though I could never figure out; it almost feels like it's referencing something but I'm not good enough at these things to get it, if you ever figure something out with that please put it in a video, I'd love to watch that solved!
Nice! Just listened to it and I remember that one well, beautiful music. That whole b3 2 b7 4 piano motif is similar to some stuff in TP but by no means intentional. Just minor with a minor 9. But the chord progression in there is used in the opening or Ori and even in part of the BOTW main theme. It’s one of many many notes that remains “open” just like “Times composers recycled their own material” where I’m compiling examples until I feel the time is right. I probably have over 100 notes waiting patiently like the guardians underneath Hyrule 100 years ago 🤣
Ok, usually I watch your videos and very often it's very obvious references at least for me because I'm pathetic enough to name Zelda songs in 1-2 notes... however I didn't catch this one; I completely forgot music even played there or in Majora's Mask. It is a very neat reference.
Hahaha thank you! I meant the title- I really haven’t heard anyone mention this for 6 years. Apparently some people did, but only people like me who obsess over it. And even I missed it till a couple weeks ago. The others I understand why people caught it.
Thanks so much! I estimate probably 2-2.5 weeks unless something is a real hit on TOTK. Which could happen 😅 But already trying to figure out what to do for the 10k SUB special. Probably like a 3 hour livestream going through Zelda music. We’ll see (if I can even figure out how to make that work).
I totaly know where he's going with this. Such a cool reference! I didn't even notice it until now when I listened closer. I always knew it sounded familiar! oot for the n64 was my first zelda game.
I might have found something. Here 7:10, in this track, I think there is something special with the drums. Maybe I go to far, but I think this is the same rythm that Ravel's Bolero. Of course, it seems at first not related at all to the Zelda soundtrack, but I assure you that, if it's true, there is a link. Actually, Ravel's Bolero was supposed to be the main theme of the first Zelda Game, but wasn't in the end because of a copyright issue. If it's true (but it can be not, so I would want to listen what you think about it), it would be an amazing call back !!
Wow it’s true the rhythm is the same! Probably too common to call it definitely intentional, but a very cool callback indeed if it was! And cool to speculate either way. Thanks for sharing!

That little main theme motif is also heard when waking up in Breath of the Wild
Really? Can you send a link?
Wow. Great insights and beautiful throwback reference. Ocarina of Time will always hold a true place in all of our hearts for a simpler time and an amazing piece of gaming art.
OMG I JUST REALIZED:
The Main Theme of Breath of the Wild are the begining notes of Ocarina's Hyrule Field
Almost 😅
I think the green rupee sound effect in skyward sword might be the starting notes of the ocarina of time morning hyrule field intro, couldn’t unhear it. Love your work brother
Thanks so much!
nice find on the oot ending! ive heard people also attribute that last bit to the ending of majoras mask aswell right after you beat majora. my mind when i heard it went straight to the "mission accomplish" in star fox 64, which all 3 i think use the same 2 notes
Wow I’d love to hear both. If you find links could you send them? I’ll check them out.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory absolutely!
so for majoras mask, around the 20 second mark here ruclips.net/video/ica7vAbXe20/видео.html
the start of star fox 64 mission accomplished ruclips.net/video/GuB1S_avUWw/видео.html
and a bonus, the credits end with it of star fox 64 aswell at 13 mins here ruclips.net/video/RLypi9QgT1M/видео.html
REALLY helpful! Always appreciate links and times. Do me a favor, when you find cool stuff (esp TORK but any) just send me links and times in a new comment and I’ll vet them. Definitely doing an Evolution of this theme. And you gave me an extra example at least.
Unlocking the Shiekah Towers was so rewarding for the music alone. Wish it lasted longer..
This is why I love this soundtrack. it is some excellent work.
"...Fee's Theme..." A music theorist, not a philologist! Awesome video dude, I'll be back for more.
Hahaha thank you! I actually never played SS, had no idea until I posted myself and everyone corrected me. Love the theme though
I swear that theme is referenced in the opening cutscene of Majora's Mask when Link is riding through the forest too.
You know what… I know that one from memory, I don’t have to pull it up. And it’s very similar. If it’s in the same key I’m adding it to my list of pieces that use that. But either way that’s pretty cool!
@@ZeldaMusicTheory hell yeah man!! I love that it's kinda like a quick swipe of the motif to pick up where they left off in oot.
The final memory music coming back in - let's call it the final showdown (7:06) makes sense narratively because it's the champions coming together to fight Ganon. They're finally doing what they set out to do 100 years ago. So very cool!
edit: OH! Also makes sense that it's the finale of OoT
Amazing right? How cool of a reference was that…
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Every time I listen to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom music, it sounds like a love letter to the rest of the franchise 😍
Yeah 100%, I have a whole video on that I’m thinking of doing
Oh yeah callbacks to the main theme are scattered all throughout the entire soundtrack and it’s my favorite thing ever. My favorite probably being in the DLC when Kass plays his final song in Rito village
Sidon is a reference to Poseidon.
Poor Sidon lost his sister.
Between Mifa, Sidon and King Dorephan, we have six of the eight notes of the Solfege Scale... but where are the other two notes? They've been under our noses all along: Zora (So La)
That’s also in the Gamespot video, it’s insane.
Never caught that. Amazing. Gives me goosebumps how connected that makes things feel.
Let’s goooo
Ok. Loving all of it, but the mi fa si do just blew my mind
I knew Fi's theme the moment it played, and it made me very emotional at the time
Nintendo posted on twitter an ask our developers interview about Tears of the Kingdom.
Wow can you send any links you find??
woooooooooooah I was totally going for "that's obviously the start of the game when kokiri forest theme starts playing" but that melody goes up, I didn't realize that this one in the end of ocarina of time is like the same start but it goes down, that's so mindblowing!
Hahaha incredible right!!!?
Ok, so funny you should mention Gamespot, because you, sir, are THE Gamespot of the musical side of Zelda
While they found fun facts and glitches and the like, you just keep coming with these amazing musical Easter eggs that are an absolute treat to listen to!
That’s why it’s so hard to branch out to other stuff- I feel like this topic needs to be covered 🤣
Also that Twilight Princess reference came out of left field but I’ve never heard anyone mention it!

@@ZeldaMusicTheory BotW had a variety of boss themes (Molduga, Talus, Hinox, basic enemy, Guardians, etc.)
I'm pretty sure the new overworld bosses such as the Gleeok we've seen will have their own unique theme.
On it!
Oh I caught that when I first heard it. I just forgot to point it out to you with Hyrule Castle going into the second to last cut scene from OoT.
Well now you know where to report cool musical stuff- I’m always searching!
Really? Can you send a link to that part?
Zelda has always been a game with music themes :)
I also love the Zelda lullaby in the 13th memory
I'm pretty sure that those two cords at the end of ocarina have time are also used at the end of Starfox 64
You’re right! And I actually don’t think that was even Koji Kondo amazingly 😬
Well, I’m not sure if anybody at all picked it up, but the opening flourish of the Guardian battle theme in BotW seems to be lifted up directly from the incidental alarm noise the Sentrobe Bombs make when they approach Link in Skyward Sword.
Wow that’s cool. Can you send a link?
@@ZeldaMusicTheory ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxrJ_RH-ZZbruF1wEjUahhW07yiJRiyDWl
It’s rough, and I got it from some other playthrough(don’t have my Wii set up for it) but this clip should have it.
Very similar- both sort of atonal and dissonant. I can’t quite connect individual notes but it could very well be influenced. Thanks for sharing it!
2:00 also pointing out that it’s also the same sound effect when you ask to talk to midna in the light world
Yes!
Nicer yeah really hope that doesn’t happen to all my content in the future.
I absolutely love Mipha’s and Sudon’s theme! ❤
Yes, Ocarina! It's also the very opening of Kokiri forest theme. I thought that was where you were going!
Hi! Yeah it’s similar in the opening Kokiri Forest, kind of a call back to the classic bVI bVII I progression. Thanks for commenting!
That's crazy! I forgot all about that section of music
I know it’s kinda reserved for that one impactful moment. But it’s there!
Ur growing so fast. Ur going to to reach 10k in like 3 days, 1k a day.
Thanks so much! I estimate probably 2-2.5 weeks unless something is a real hit on TOTK. Which could happen 😅 But already trying to figure out what to do for the 10k SUB special. Probably like a 3 hour livestream going through Zelda music. We’ll see (if I can even figure out how to make that work).
oh damm I knew I recognized that music but I couldn't place it, thanks for showing it off
😅
As soon as I heard the chord, I was like "Ocarina... duh." But I listened to the OoT OST religiously as a kid, so.
Hahaha me too but I didn’t get it until recently. I was also absorbed in the game and not searching. Now I’m listening everywhere 😂
Koji Kondo is truly the GOAT
100% my fav composer. It’s not even close.
1:32 played with piano at 1:49 used for Age of Calamity music score (Main Theme)
Oh wow that’s true! Hahaha totally different chords but same 4 notes!
I didnt realize Ocarina of Times ending sounded like Starfox 64 ending. Made a mad dash to listen to them back to back.
EXACTLY! They are like identical. And I actually think it wasn’t Koji Kondo who originally wrote this motif now. Amazing.
Also in the death mountain area it plays death mountain (level 9) from zelda 1
doing sound balancing on a video right before listening to your voice is like receiving the answer after taking the test
Hahaha thank you!
I totaly know where he's going with this. Such a cool reference! I didn't even notice it until now when I listened closer. I always knew it sounded familiar! oot for the n64 was my first zelda game.
Let’s Gooo
Goosebumps indeed
Ohey I did notice it! Can't believe no one ever talked about it
Nice job!
Incredible man, good job
Thanks Max!
Great videos! Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks!
