- FIVE HINTS FOR ANTIQUERS | COSTUME JEWELRY TO CHINESE FENTON
This fun trip to a fresh new vintage place is full of tips for antique lovers! How to pick out gold tone costume jewelry? We find out here. How to spot unmarked Monmouth Pottery and Niloak Mission Ware? We've got that too! From repurposing old machinery to dating old wicker furniture, we explore this big antique emporium with an eye to what the items there can tell us about similar items we might see elsewhere in our vintage hunts.
Finding fun stuff is easy in this Cheyenne's large Antique Center, with a big variety of captivating vintage goods! Picture scenes grace 19th century lithophane clocks and MCM scenic shade Cholla lamps, furniture flips out and turns from table to chair, and an ice machine from Japan fascinates with its unusual pre-war design!
Among the treats, we find a few tricks as well, and point them out for your edification. Newly made "Fenton" from China shows an obvious quality deficit compared to the original, while an American-made pot masquerades as English. Can we believe our own eyes? Hopefully this helpful video will make it easier for you to tell what's what when you're out on your own antiquing adventures.
Here's some more of what we find to stimulate our antique awareness:

"...and a swinger." You made me laugh.
Lol I don't know how that jumped into my head
You are so nice and respectful. Tall to. My kinda guy
That purse is art. I would hang it as a decoration, an interesting one.
My granna’s favorite scent was Evening in Paris. I have a little boxed set.
I enjoy your commentary. You don't always pick the things that look interesting to me specifically, but I appreciate the knowledge that you impart. Thanks!
Its nice that you tell us about everything, not just what you buy.
so happy you bought the mushroom brooch!
Wow! Never would've guessed that Fenton produced items in China!
I really enjoy walk round the stores with you talking about all the different items.
I find myself thinking...I would get and that and that lol
I would definitely be in my element.
We don't have as much to choose from here in Australia.
I hear that, but I do like some of your domestic made housewares very much
I loooooove book ends.
I always have to look
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
I really liked the Blue Captain’s Decanter.👍
Me too!
Another great video! Stretching yourself is how you grow in my opinion.
Very informative video again George, thank you. I went to my local flea market in Tokyo most weekends for almost 10 years and occasionally saw old ice crushers. Most were quite a bit smaller than the one in your video. I never purchased one but think they were selling for about 5,000- 8,000yen.
Neat! That is very interesting to me
Thankyou George, your knowledge is amazing and I always learn something new by watching your videos
I am partial to old cast brass bookends. They are usually handsome as are books. Our family has been full of readers for generations. I have my great grandparents from the mid 1800's
Those wind turbines are of the devil. I have to look at them every damn day in front of my house!!! 17:52. Looks like crotch, not burl. I never knew those benches were for vacuums.
Fun opening ! God info to share on power source. I think its so flat and wide open that the wind has a chance to pickup and be useful.
the pink and white Kanawha piece was wild!
The fact that you know what the Chinese did to the silk and why…blows my mind! 🤓
I would have loved the Chinese checker board in the background when you were looking at goofus glass.
I am 4'11 and I have a small oak desk from the 1920's fits perfect, also A 6' Husband, we are a perfect fit! LOL
That was a very interesting place. The Japanese ice crusher was amazing!
Just catching up on missed videos - travelogue great as usual Love the Heck Yeah sign !
Thanks so much!!That one made me smile too
Hi George, I was in that Cheyenne antique store a couple weeks ago! Fun to see you looking at some of the same things I saw. You must have been there before me, because two of the Shawnee items that I purchased, for half price, were in your video!
Great video…learning so much♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for the trip to where my dad grew up near. He actually was from Rawlins. Very interesting store with some unique & affordable pieces! That cute little lady's secretary with the inlaid top was beautiful!
love your shopping! loved the horse shade. Appaloosa have white blankets on rumps with spots mostly. That was my first "LOVE" Trigger, a palomino. Sure wish I was with you there that Lil pony woulda went right on down the trail ride back home with ME!!!! You sure do find AMAZING things! Thank You for sharing and Happy 4th🎉 July!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Its different from this video but still fun,.
THRIFTING VEGAS, with Tiffany ❤
Love the tilt top table. I have a small apartment and would love a piece like that. It be great to have one for a “kitchen”table.
I have been in this shop in Cheyenne while visiting my daughter a number of years ago. Great educational and entertaining video! Thanks!!
👋🏻 New subscriber here! I'm new to all of this antique and vintage collecting too, actually. I'm blown away by your proficiency in this stuff! Your voice is so calming...I could listen to you speak about this all day! I loved the hilarious things you said on some of the pieces! Particularly the baby's quilt! 😆 Thank you sweetly for sharing your knowledge and journeys! 🤗 I'm attempting to grasp as much as possible about this topic. There's just a significant amount to learn! 🤯 Going to give it my best though! 👍🏻 Oh! Quick question...have you ever been on ‘The Antiques Roadshow’ as one of the appraisers? You look so familiar! 🤔
Happy 4th!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎆🎇🧨♥️
Always a pleasure to be with you
You are heading to my crazy neck of the woods, Portland Or/Vancouver, WA!
Yes I remember Mr. Hoot. And yes he winked....It is not my decor style...but I loved the daisy cookie jar. And the pastel dishes for people. I have mom's doll ones... I wish I was in Portland and the Expo sale. Blessings and great sale to you. I have some of her books....have never seen JW Anglund (sp) figurines...fun!!
There is the 70's !😂 I almost spit my coffee everywhere! 😂
Looking forward to seeing you in Portland!
Please let me know when you sell the Missoula dolls! Best wishes on a great sale!
Will you be putting the pins up for sale? I am interested in the mushroom pin. Love love love the ladies writing desk!!! Have never seen the Joan Walsh items; only the sweet books. You bought them??
I will try to find the mushroom pin too!
Thank you for your wonderful insights and I have to say, your jokes are on point in this episode. Making me giggle.
I lived in Wyoming for awhile in he 70’s. We called it Windyoming. You certainly showed us some interesting things. Thanks so much
Learning so much from watching your videos! I love the Joan Walsh Anglund figures. Will you be bringing those to Rosie’s Marietta event?
I'm afraid those already sold
Fun format!
Thank you!
That fruitwood table was just charming. I've never seen such a sweet little design.
Thanks, love watching.
Oh. The wooden needle case!
Hello all
I love amberina glass but don't come across it much where I am. Always amazes me how many times I spy it in your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Wonderful assortment of vintage and antique. I always learn something new each time I watch your videos.
Oh man you always skip the Cleminson pottery ... It was the Chinese Man water sprinkler... I was dying to know what they were asking for it .... My Mom collects it and my great Aunt worked there back in the day in California as a painter ... Love to see it far from home ... Expensive 99 here .... Hi Xeno
Another fun video. Thanks!
Good evening, George! I'm playing catch-up with this one. Just finished cleaning up after the meal. I hope you had a fantastic 4th! Was that a fire screen on the floor next to the oak table? It caught my eye. That Goofus bowl looked like an Indiana Glass piece. Indiana Glass probably made most of the Goofus. That one was in really good condition. Loved that cider set. If it had all six cups, I'd really love it. I liked that Weller "Virginia Creeper" vase. I'm not big on collecting vases, but that one did catch my eye. That bulldog driving the car looked like it was in a 1958 Cadillac. I liked the shape of that Zeppelin S & P and mustard pot...just don't care for lustre ware. That silverplate was pretty...as long as someone else has it. I'm not polishing that stuff 😂 I saw a couple of baby chicken waterers there, with the blue Ball jars on them. I have a glass waterer my granddad had. That Toyko hk ice crusher was fascinating. I've never seen anything like that and would've never guessed it was an ice crusher. Wow! loved the toy piano. It would've been nice if it had been in better condition. That was a really nice shop, with a lot of interesting items! Their prices seemed really good, too. Thanks for the take-along!!!
Hi there! I'm way behind as well. That was a nice fire screen. Didn't realize Indiana patterns were the primary Goofus blanks! I have a thing for vases, but they have to be scupltural because I rarely cut flowers. So funny about the ice crusher, I ran into another one last week after having never seen one before! I use my silver daily so I don't ever have to polish
So fun to shop with you. Safe travels‼️
Happy 4th! Thank you for the great video
❤❤❤
A swinger lol I enjoy your videos, and you educate me on vintage
“…and a swinger.” 😏
Drooling over all that mauclinware from Scotland.(mawk-lin). It is sycamore wood and seems to still get strong prices. Thanks again for another fab store review.
Thank you for the pronunciation! I see so little of it that I didn't know for sure. I enjoy sycamore in tree form, I'd not been aware that was the wood in mauclinware
Really enjoyed this walk through.
I would have purchased the same items lol.
💖
The red in the Kanawa or Canawa would fit into someone's decor, I'm sure.
I like red a lot!
@@TheAntiqueNomad that red is odd, but it comes back into style regularly.
The only problem with most thrifter's videos they show basically what they are interested,so we have to quickly scan the other items, but then, we can't shop.
The violet brooch is pretty.
19:44 These rag ad dolls never go for much as well as always look dingy and stained. The HIGH END ones are Funny Face (drink mix) and Quisp & Quake (cereal) . The Burger King & McDonalds are not even worth picking up for a dollar .
Lol Ronald Mc Donald on steroids 😄
Have you ever been to Hillsville, Va.? They have a gunshot and flea mkt . Small one on Memorial Day weekend then a huge one on Labor Day Weekend . Usually runs around 5 days. Nothing like it!
*gun show😂
You spring from Malmø ? 😄 👍
Thanks for the jewelry tips-I have a couple Trifari pieces in my collection and just started listing jewelry in my shop last night. In just 12 hours after listing about 20 pieces, my shop views doubled and I sold a couple items! By the way you are not a heifer-I weigh more than you, and you are super tall. That Ronald McDonald is fantastically creepy. As are all those kewpies....
I'm glad you're trying jewelry! I think it has potential for you as you saw
👍🇨🇦🤗
Do You do Appraisals on pottery
Yes, you can submit appraisal information at theantiquenomad.com/appraisals
Hmm
I think the dolls and plush are scary.
