Who is your favorite Defense Against The Dark Arts Teacher?
Lupin of course! Lupin is the best.
It’s gotta be lupin

LUPIN
Lupin or Snape
I ship Umbridge and dementors. Can't wait for their first kiss!

"Do you remember me telling you we are practicing non-verbal spells, Potter?"
"Yes."
"Yes, SIR."
"There's no need to call me 'sir', professor."

can't believe they didn't include this
Harry: Egorgio!

Harry: *screaming* REDUCIO!!

Sounds like if I practiced magic.
Hermione in the background: is everything alright
Lol
Dosent he say reduto not reducto like Ben says
Sonny Fox no he says reducio because they are 2 different spells
Ben: "Dating with Dementors. How is that even a thing?"

@@connorvincent6287 Right?! J is literally always like that when he gets a question wrong. He is a pretty big sore loser. Especially lame considering he wins the whole quiz the majority of the time. He also often weasels his way into getting points and half points for questions he doesn't actually get right just because he says, "well that is what I meant to say when I wrote that." But then doesn't offer Ben the same leeway. Let us not forget the Halloween quiz where he literally misses an answer on an 'all that apply' question and still gives himself the point because "I'm sorry I didn't hear you mention that one." He is such an older brother on these J vs Ben videos. Still love them both but I just had to say that. Team Ben always and forever though.
How could you forget when they learned non verbal spells when Harry Potter's greatest moment happened in the same class?!
"There's no need to call me sir, professor."
Mickey Corbalis We need more savage Harry.
That's exactly what I thought!
Snape: Avad-
Magonigal: Professor Snape, can I have a moment of your time?
Harry: Yes
Snape: Yes *sir*
Harry: There is no need to call me “sir”, professor.

Question 4: Which spell to disarm someone?
Sectumsepra.
He loses his arm
Easy af
Edit: apparently its expelliarmus 😐
Avada Kedara also disarms them. It kills them!
Imperio as well because you could order them to drop their wand
This is true and I do not like this
I’m not sure if just no one in this thread is getting the pun or if I accidentally read the original comment as a pun.
Matthew Wu or time chop off their arm
Swamps have trees
Marshes have grasses
Bogs have Shrubs
They're all wetlands... don't judge me for my random knowledge.
Hey I found a ravenclaw!
Bogs actually have vegetation growing on top of a body of water and I believe also affect the 'lakes' acid content.
What about a fen? (fens have less peat and more plant life than a bog...according to google)
Thank you for saving me from having to look this up. Though I was relatively certain about the swamp/tree part.
I read Bogs as Boys. Thing sounded way dirtier then any bog for a sec.
Quiz: what spell would you use to disarm an opponent
Me: depends on how injured I want them to be
BlackVendaeta I can agree here. Because if I wanted somebody hurt it wouldn’t be expelliarmus.
XD

Yeah, how does expeliarrmus remove an arm
@@lextatertotsfromhell7673 Why
So, I know that “Expelliarmus” is the default way to disarm an opponent, but would “Accio opponent's wand” also work?
Or sectum sempra 😂
Or Imperio or EaT sLuGs or its real name Slugatias Encratoa (I think that's how u spell it I ain't sure)
They actually use that in Fantastic Beasts
Saying accio opponent’s want takes longer to say and therefor despite it most likely working the same, it is less efficient
Probably, you just gotta get creative with magic
Dating with Dementors
Ben: how could that possibly be a thing
Me: The Dementors kiss?
Or death
Reducio is the "make it smol" spell.
That's what Harry says in that Deathly Hallows scene 15:30
Joshua Strand my favorite scene, because as soon as Harry reduces the flame, Hermione asks from the other room what's going on and they both look SO GUILTY and say "Nothing!"
I cant believe they dont know the difference between a bog and a swamp...in one you can find a Shrek and in the other you cant
Jeweliet 🤣🤣👏👏👏
But you can find a shrek in the bog. It shows that in the very first scene of the movie.
Quiz: wich of these spells requires more than just a simple counter-curse to reverse it?

Avada kedavra is not reverceble

I knew the non-verbal spells one because I knew that it was what lead to the best line in the series: "There's no need to call me "sir" Professor."
Also Harry successfully does it for (i think) the first time topping up the drinks in Hagrid's shack for Aragog's wake, so it had to be when Slughorn was there. That's how I remembered it, anyway.
I just remembered it because they had already started them in Dumbledores Army during year 5
@@mattthomits7890 I don't think that was in the books, just a film only thing unless that is what you meant
@@CMW003 i'm pretty sure it actually was in the book only...... Lol. They never really did non verbal spells in the movies. At least til Hallows

"Where would you find a Kappa?"
Between Iota and Lambda, of course!
Iota isn't followed by a J letter??
@@janhvirochwani5127 greek didn't really had a J. Actually, I believe it still doesn't.
Kappa is found underground. In the Indian state of Kerala, Kappa means Cassava/Yuca, LoL
Yup, there is no J in the Greek alphabet, the sound of it is not part of the greek language. There are a few words that need it, so we use this combination: 'TZ'. Iota is the simplest 'i' (there are five more symbols that give the same sound).
Animal Crossing?
Seeing your answers on screen and then watching your faces while you second guess yourselves is hilarious! I love these!
You know what makes me mad? Harry and Ron constantly complain about getting a foot long essay for homework. A foot is 12 inches long. A standard sheet of paper is 11.5 inches long. They basically just have to write a single sheet of paper essay.
Have you any idea how hard that is to do for 12 classes.
@@toshiroyamada2443 do they do 12 classes at a time? I guess I just assumed it was like how my school does classes (semester rotations)

Well, I'm not passing MY OWLs... Gotta love that Harry gets an O on his for DADA and yet only uses like, 3 spells.
He knows more than that, he learnt a lot for the twiwizard, plus you see him teaching them to the DA
he got the O because he could produce a corporeal patrons on the practical. it shocked/super duper impressed the tester
It really bothers me that Pottermore erroneously refers to Amycus Carrow having taught DADA. It's clearly stated that they change the class to Dark Arts. (This might be my Um Actually moment)
Bre Bert I’m glad it wasn’t just me!! I was so mad that he counted.
HermioneHufflepuff They never changed the name. Neville tells the trio when they return to Hogwarts that “it might as well be called Dark Arts now”.
YES! UM ACTUALLY! I HAVE FOUND MY BRETHEREN!
Bre Bert I don’t think they changed the name, but also, I don’t think they wanted to confuse people, cuz if people saw DA the first thing to spring to mind is dumbledore’s army. At least, it was for me.
Exactly! I did not remember the name, but since the subject in the question was referred to as "defence against the dark arts", I immediately thought that it had to be someone from the past - not the DARK ARTS teacher mentioned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows... which of course made me answer wrong.

@supercarlinbrothers I believe they do grow mandrakes every year. In book seven they also were growing them. During the battle of hogwarts either Neville or professor sprout were throwing them at the death eaters.
Good one Shylor! I'd forgotten, but when I read your comment I suddenly remembered wondering why everyone in the castle during the Battle of Hogwarts didn't instantly drop dead once the Mandrakes started screaming! :O
I thought so, too, but Dumbledore says in book 2 sth along the lines of "Prof Sprout managed to grow some Mandrakes this year" - so maybe it's not every year, but recurring. 😊
To be fair, they use mandrakes in the battle of Hogwarts... I guess that would allude to them being a regular class thing

I love how j wrote “fancy” in the beginning 🤣
1. Umbridge used "Incarcerous" to tie up the centaur and I think Lupin used it to bind Wormtail.

Ben, in Deathly Hallows Harry uses Engorgio on the flame and it gets out of control and then uses Reducio to make it smaller. Not Reducto.
Ginny also uses Reducto in the ministry while they're searching for the prophesy in Order of the Phoenix, and she ends up blasting the shelves which cause all the prophecies to come crashing down.
20:24 Petrificus Totalus. Petrification spell.
Relashio is what Hermione uses on the Dragon after they escape Gringots. He's resting and she uses it at it's tail to make it "repel" away from the building so it would get moving again. Umbridge used "Incarcerous".

15:30 in the movie, Harry uses the spell “engorgio” to enlarge the flame and then “reducio” to “make it smol.” He doesn’t use reducto in that scene

The kappa question J is technically right for actual Japanese mythology, but not for HP.
it is corect in the greater wizarding world it is called a japanise water deamon in the crimes of gridalwald
RedSamuraiVolas *Grindlevald
He’s German, so there is no w
@@RedSamuraiVolas I kind of think the lake answer is more correct. Officially it's stated as ponds but could be rivers for HP, but in myth rivers make up the most common imagery and possibly lakes. The kanji in their name has one of the kanji for river. Ponds are really too shallow because they operate on drowning rather than strangling like in HP lore. You could drown in a pond too, but for most ponds it's harder to fall, get pulled in, and drown without calling attention to others. Lakes and rivers make more sense because it's harder to find people who disappear around them due to depth and current thus driving the myth.
@@Azeriiall oh there is totally a w. It's very german (or swissgerman or austrian), it's GRINDELWALD.

@Kaden Goldman Ikr!!! I have about 5 but ranking them is HARD!!!
Well there Merlin, Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter, Tom Riddle and Gellbert Grindelwald just to name a few and weirdly most are half blood (i believe merlin was half blood due to the legends that he was the devil son of a mortal women just replaced devil with wizard and mortal with muggle)
@@lucifersdevilishdetails. I don't think Merlin should count...He was a very powerful wizard no doubt but he wasn't alive during the books event and if you count them then there's the founders of Hogwarts and so many more! I think it should only be the ones who were once alive during the book.

Me too. Its nice being able to see what they write as they talk about it before showing the answers.
Buuuuut it's just got a nice aspect to it, using whiteboards. It's like reading a proper book instead of on an ebook/ipad or whatever
I actually prefer the whiteboards because I like to play along with them and they give it away/confuse me. 😉

I'm a language buff and I've found that it helps me a lot with Harry Potter spells. I don't know Latin really well, but I do know some and I know Spanish quite well, plus I know how a lot of English words derive from Latin. For example, "Legible" comes from the Latin word "to read" (legere ; leer in Spanish). Occlude (block, put a cover over, hide from view) comes from Latin and the Spanish verb is ocluir. Mens is the Latin word for "mind (mente in Spanish; there are lots of English and Spanish words that end in -ente or -ante (not ante the preposition as in ante bellum) that come from a form of words in Latin ending in -ens, or -ans. So legilimency is the art of reading minds and occlumency is the art of blocking your mind from "view" - can't see it, can't read it.
Only a relatively few HP spells are directly from Latin, like Expecto Patronum, accio, imperio, and crucio. Avada Kedavra, as I recall is based on Aramaic. In the film HBP, Snape uses the incantation "vulnera sanentur" which is proper Latin for "let the wounds be healed" (plural wounds). I wonder if that could be used for healing someone who has been splinched when apparating.
Still, if you think about how English words come from Latin, or if you know some Spanish (or French, or Italian, or Portuguese, or Romanian) you can figure out the basic meaning of many HP incantations.

Umbridge used Incarcerous on the Centaurs, and I thought Relashio was what RELEASED someone - Newt used it on the Zouwu!
Exactly and hermione uses it to rid the dragon of its chains when they escape gringots
Lupin taught it to repel grindylows.
Relashio makes the target release what they are holding
Alex TheBadassBadger I thought relashio just cut things?

Personally if I needed to disarm someone I would say "accio" and point at their wand instead of "expelliarmus" bc it's quicker and does the same thing
Plus you get the wand
