Remember when games used to open with pre-rendered CG movies, we would watch in awe and wish that one day, we'll play games in that kind of graphics?

It's funny too as the unreal engine ps5 demo far exceeds any ps1 cgi. 15 year old me's head would have exploded watching that back when i thought tekken 2 opening cgi was incredible.
A tip: you can watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
The biggest leap is from PS1 to PS2. The world you’re walking through goes from being a flat, two dimensional surface to having trees and bushes with perceived depth. Everything after that is just incremental improvements on what the PS2 started.
The PS is just an operating system. It does or didnt determine evolution of video games. (im sry that i nitpick here, but needed to be said)

Evolution of video games has nothing to do with the PS2 or whatever operating system.
This right here shows you how games improved over the time FOR the PS. The PS is not the determing factor for improvement.

Resident evil 2 and the remake looks like absolute trash. For a consoel game it's good but relative to pc its so bad.

That was around the time software developers figured out how to squeeze a lot more graphical performance out of the hardware. Not unrelated to this is the fact that PS1 only supported 2d acceleration.

Your comparison is wrong, so far there is no gameplay on ps5, it is just a DEMO of unreal engine 5, a demo is not comparable to a videogame and unreal engine IS NOT a videogame.

Look at how far we've come... my first game was in 1995, "Prince of Persia". I remember gaming in 2D, then moving to 3D, then seeing reflections was mind blowing, then being mind blown again when I could see 'fingers' on each player in EA Sports' FIFA, and then Half-Life 2 came along, Doom, Crysis of course... now we are in the era of reaching towards 'photo realism'. Look at 'Forza Horizon 4' - - each time I see a thumbnail of that game on YT, I find it hard to believe it is a game. Then UE5 Demo - - astonishing. In the next 10 years, Ray Tracing will bring us closer to life like visuals that we can no longer discern the difference (for a game aiming for realistic visuals and not artistic stylization game).
Thank you for making this can’t wait to prove my mom why I should buy the ps5

Biggest jumps in 3D Graphics were going from 16 bit to PS2, and everything in between. Now, the PS5 may be the next significant leap because things are starting to look REAL.
PS1 : Pixeled 3D game
PS2: Rounded and boxed Game Graphics
PS3 : HD Graphics
PS4: Ultra Game Graphics
PS5: Blockbuster Cinematic Movie Graphics
PS1 was a lot of fun, but PS2 and PS3 were the best generations to be gamer :)

I remember when it first come out xmas 96 and there was nothing like it before with the freedom of movement,the scenery & the likes.

Same here . I still have my 1st PS1 ( + 3 spares lol ) not mentioning all the previous consoles etc like Nintendo's-Dreamcast etc & the once that followed . Will be buying the PS5 & XBox X , not that i'm an xbox player , only buying that console for "SENUA Hellblade 2 " as they made it xbox exclusive ( MS Mangrols) .

Spectrum, C64, Atari st, Amiga & cd32 before this in the early 80's & to mid 90's.
Actually had a tv game console with twist paddles in 1976 called pong then played on my friends atari 800 in 1980 and bbc b computer.
Then got my first computer in the early 80's the spectrum 16k and upgraded to 48k later on and the rest is history.
Might get ps5 i dunno.
I bet the price of ps5 games will be £70 lol.

2000-2020 excellent gaming too but not quite as good as pre 2000 gaming.
First gaming console i played was called pong a bat & ball game that i got with my elder bro in 1976.
Then from the early 80's spectrum, C64 & amiga in the 80's through to the mid 90's then all playstation from mid 90's.
Yes i was lucky to experience gaming history from the very beginning.(:-)

It did not look like that on the PS2, graphics were washed out back then and it had no Anti-Aliasing. This was clearly emulated.

I never got to play the PS1 nor the PS2 (my mom did), I wasn’t even born since then. But, I did play the PS3/360 generation and it was great (I played the 360 to be specific); I still warmly remember all of those beautiful moments with my family and friends, how fun it was to share those experiences with the people you loved, how you went to your friend’s house just to chill and play videogames, or just how you could lend your disc to your friend and play games immediately without them needing to install first.
Ofc, I’m talking out of nostalgia, because gaming is still great regardless of what many people say, I mean, there were amazing games for both the PS4 and Xbox One, and, seeing this video of the PS evolution (and videogame evolution overall), makes me think that, after the PS5/XSX, the PS6/next Xbox will literally look like real life, I mean, the PS5/XSX already look like a fucking movie.
Regardless, the PS3/360 gen will always be my favorite one because I was born in that generation, my mom’s favorite gen is the PS2/Xbox, and so on, so, it really depends on which you gen you were born, no one is better than the other, simply because each generation has its own “essence” (regardless of graphical improvements), and ofc, nostalgia also plays a big part.
Note; BTW, everyone’s right, the biggest improvement seems to be from the PS1 to the PS2, it’s mind blowing. The PS3 was a noticeable change from the PS2, the PS4 was very noticeable from the PS3, and the PS5, like I said already, looks like a movie, so maybe this next gen will be the 2nd biggest improvement.

Haven't played the new tomb rider games but one good thing about the old tomb rider games was you got infinite ammo.

I remember as a kid when ps1 and N64. Those graphics were amazing and revolutionary back then lol because I was used to 2D games like Sega and Nintendo
I know some people like to diminish this but 4k hdr makes a huge difference especially on a oled display. that makes games look way better. that alone was a huge improvement for video games.
No game trailer for PS5 that i have seen look as good as that tech demo did.

Yeah that's PC's 3Dfx version he tagged as "PS1". And that stretched and choppy a. f. TR3's footage is also from PC, even though it clearly states "PS1"

The character in the PS5 demo definitely looks video-gamey, but I would've 100% believed anyone who showed me a screenshot of the environment and said it was a photograph.

The 2 biggest leaps are ps1 from ps2 and ps2 from ps3. There is a huge revolution from console to console.
After then in each next console (ps3, PS4 and ps5) the difference is that you can only notice some details improved from the previous one.
Everyone saying ps1 to ps2 was the biggest leap, but I’d argue ps3 to ps4 is when image and lightning started to make more sense in realistic terms. It was a huge improvement

While all are graphical improvements, I feel the biggest leap was PS1 to PS2, simply for the polygon increase. I remember the days of the PS1. While great at the time, looking back all games look like a stop motion movie made of painted building blocks in the shape of humans/animals/etc.
:) I can't believe I used to say to my daughter how amazing the graphics were on the PS1.....mind you I was used to playing Manic Miner on the Commodore 64, so pretty much anything would have looked amazing after that :)

@@m4289 wow. I really didn't know that. I was sure it wasn't, so I just googled it to find out a port was released lately for PS2. anyway... TR1 and TR3 was early in PS1,s life. It's not really fair to compare it to a game released for PS2 2 years after PS3 was released. I would say:
PS1-TR4
PS2-TR Legend
PS3-TR reboot
PS4-Shadow
These games really explored what its' current hardware had to offer
I can remember Tomb Raider 2013 looking a hell of a lot better than that but come to think of it I was playing on PC remastered ultra settings. It’s crazy how far graphics have come I such a short time I’m just worried now that when I get my RTX 3080 if I’ll be able to play the PS5 or any other console cause the graphics it would be like going back in time ten years
